No Rest for the Wicked (Life Is Hell Book 1) by Naomi Valkyrie – Review by Carrie Reed

No Rest for the Wicked (Life is Hell #1)No Rest for the Wicked by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites. This is a genre I wouldn’t think I would enjoy but then I get so into the story I’m begging for more. I felt real bad for Delilah, getting forced to work on her vacation and on top of that doing something she did not want to do for 3 witches she never meant to come into contact with. I was excited to see her meet the sheriff, Malakhi and to see where their relationship would head. I was not prepared for but, was ecstatic to welcome Caspian into this mix! I really enjoyed the flow of this book, the story, and the characters. I love that the author introduced LGBT+ characters into this story and I am really looking forward to see what happens next with this trio. I also wouldn’t mind see what comes of Sheridan and her crush.

Shift Happens: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Katie Matthews

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes, #2)Shift Happens by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story was so brilliant! I loved every minute of it. I was kind of hooked after I read the blurb but once I started reading it exceeded my expectations. The storyline was quirky and funny and I loved the characters, they made me laugh so much. I just adored the main characters, especially Sophie! The connection and back and forth between her and Trace was funny. Although this is the second book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series it’s easily read as a standalone which is how I read it, it’s also the first time that I have ready anything by this author and I cannot wait to read more of this series! I loved this book so much and would definitely recommend it to others!

Naomi brings us another teen romance fantasy novel.
Delilah I love her as she’s a string women with a no nonsense attitude. You want to know more about Delilah when you get to know more about her . There have a ton of fantasy characters demons, witches, fallen angels as well as Hunters bring all the cast together. You won’t want to put this book down once you start reading.

I have read a couple other books by this author so i knew I would enjoy this one before I even opened it and I was so right!

Delilah is a demon living among us and when she snaps and needs a break from it all, she finds a small little town to relax in, or so she thinks.
This author has a way of giving enough details you can just picture everything that the characters are seeing and experiencing without being overly descriptive.
I really enjoyed this book and had a few laughs, a few edge of my seat moments and overall just enjoyment. I can’t wait for more in this new series!

Valkyrie is quickly becoming a one click author in the paranormal genre for me. She has a distinct voice with extremely well developed characters. I love the strong female leads! This book – boy did it ever NOT disappoint. An amazing kickoff to a great series. I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. Literally my only complaint is that I have to wait for the next book. Loved it!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shift Happens is the second book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. In book two of this series you get to learn more about Sophie Burroughs and her witch abilities. Along with learning more about Trace and there blossoming relationship. Sophie has a friend name Crimson who we get to learn more about her and Trace’s friend Jackson. one thing I loved about this read was even though it was centering around Sophie and Trace we still got to hear about Jane and Ethan. This read is funny and entertaining and it really keeps you captivated. I really look forward to reading book 3 in this series and i hope we can learn more about Jackson and Crimson.

These books are all so good! Each one is a different paranormal romance and they are done so well. This is not the same story with a few changes made. They are are all unique and different from one another. I could not put this set down until I was done. Then there are the characters. They are so real and I instantly fell in love with them. This is definitely a set you won’t regret getting.

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes, #2)Shift Happens by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read a couple of books from this author and she still continues to blow my mind on her storytelling. This is the second book of the New Orleans Nocturnal series. You don’t need to read the books in order but there are previous characters in this story as well. I love a good paranormal book but this author exceeded all my expectations on this book. I was so excited when I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. I couldn’t put it down until the end. It only took me a few hours to devour this addictive story.

Sophie is supposed to be a witch like her whole family. She has been told she even smells like a witch. Sophie wants to be a witch so bad but she can’t cast a spell for nothing. She finds herself in trouble with a werewolf pack. Sophie meets Hot Trace, who is a werewolf. He bites her to protect his status. His pack is cursed by a witch and Sophie has to figure out how to prove she is innocent or she too will become a wolf. Will Sophie find a way to prove that she’s innocent or will it be too late?

No Rest for the Wicked (Life is Hell #1)No Rest for the Wicked by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Delilah is a demon who owns a bar in a busy city. After almost 200 years, life has gotten pretty mundane. She’s tired of the same old routine and decides that she needs a change (who doesn’t these days right?) What could be better than vacationing in a small town in the middle a nowhere for her to enjoy some reading and relax.

I love reading a new series and getting to know new characters and when the main character is a demon, it adds just the right amount of danger! Ms. Valkyrie’s characters are so fascinating it adds and enhances the paranormal worlds she creates. You will want to keep reading and not put the book down until to the end.

I loved reading the book HUNTED (HUNTED series Book 1) by Sarah Biglow & Molly Zenk. It is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning. I love the characters of Edith, Dan Paxton, and Darren Paxton. I grew to care about what happens to them with each chapter that I read. The storyline is exciting and will have you wondering what is going to happen next. The author does an amazing job of making both the story and the characters come alive. There are also additional characters that are introduced. They include those that are helpful to Edith and the others as well as those who have a more personal and selfish agenda. The author does a wonderful job of making you believe in vampires as well as setting up the story behind the characters that you read about. Don’t miss out on an amazing story that is entertaining and addictive to read. You won’t want to put this book down until the final page. I highly recommend reading it.

This is not my first book by these two authors but it is one of my favorites. I enjoyed this vampire/human paranormal story. This is a well developed story that I had a hard time putting down. I was pulled in right from the beginning and kept engaged to the end. What will happen when a hundredth anniversary party turns into a missing person? Darren thought he was just chaperoning his brother, Dan, until Dan comes up missing. Darren is determined to find his brother, get in and get out, a clean escape. Will Edith hold the key to finding Dan? What will happen between her and Darren? I enjoyed their characters and watching them grow throughout the story. They really made the story for me and easy to read. I highly recommend this book and these authors.

The Sanctuary Chronicles Box Set – Book 1-3 + Novella by India Kells – Review by Nicole Noble

The Sanctuary Chronicles Box Set - Book 1-3 + NovellaThe Sanctuary Chronicles Box Set – Book 1-3 + Novella by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As an avid book junkie (yep..that’s me), it’s difficult to find new authors who catch your interest. With so many genres (and we all have our favorites), at least with me, most readers tend to stick to their favorite authors. So to find a new author that really catches your interest is rare and exciting. But that’s what happened to me. Who’s the author? India Kells. Talk about refreshing! So let me explain WHY she is now a new favorite for me and will hopefully become a favorite author for YOU!

The Sanctuary Chronicles is a mish-mash of nothing but goodness! Paranormal romance AT ITS BEST. Be prepared for vampires, werewolves, and witches. Romance, mystery, and angst. Humor, intrigue, and drama. I think you’re getting the idea. Ms. Kells weaves wondrous tales throughout these books that surpass your average “good book”. As each book can be read as a standalone, do yourself a favor and pick up this box set. The books included are Broken Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles Book #1), Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles Book #2), Dead Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles Book #3), and Hidden Magic (A Sanctuary Chronicles Novella). Although I would love nothing more than to tell you about the goodness in EACH and EVERY book, we don’t have ALL DAY and I think my fingers would get tired from typing, LOL.

So, what is so different about these books than any other romance novel? Well, Ms. Kells does a fabulous job in book one of setting up the characters and storyline that keeps you ensnared from the beginning until the end. This is carried through each book, where the reader keeps being enchanted with the recurring characters and a spellbinding storyline. But don’t think with all the action, suspense, and drama that Ms. Kells forgets about the feels. Those are there in-mass! Each book builds on the last leaving the reader clamoring for more. If you’ve never read Ms. Kells, this is a fabulous way to be introduced. So pick up this box of goodness and follow Valeria, Sera, and Violet as they battle dark forces, make self-discoveries, and find love all in Sanctuary.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Sanctuary Chronicles Box Set by India Kells contains three full length novels and 1 novella. They are:
Broken Magic – full length
Blind Magic – full length
Dead Magic – full length
Hidden Magic – novella

I have been a fan of India Kells writing for a couple of years now but had never read any of her paranormal work until now. OMG I was seriously missing out on some amazing writing! I’m so glad that I chose to read this box set as I absolutely loved it.

The one thing I loved most about this box set are the characters. The characters are totally kickass and I loved them so much. I keep changing my mind on who my favourite couple are, who my favourite female is and who my favourite male is. Each time I read a new book, that book’s characters became my new favourite.

As well as the romance aspect of these books (BTW these books are hot and sexy!) the drama that unfolds through each story is so well written. We have shifters, werewolves, vampires, witches and just about every other type of being imaginable. Add in some murder, mystery, intrigue, curses etc and you get a set of amazing stories that will have you gripped from the very beginning and keep you tight in their jaws before spitting you out at the very end wondering what the hell you’ve just experienced.

If you love a paranormal romance then The Sanctuary Chronicles needs to be next on your TBR list.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Will you be tempted into the world of Vampires, werewolves and mystical creatures, I say YES.

The Sanctuary Chronicles by India Kells is brilliant, I love box sets as you don’t have to wait to get stuck into the next installment and you will be chomping to get to each book in this series.

The boxset has three of the books within this series and a bonus novella which will have you looking to read the next book in the series. Each books builds the story and follows the different characters within the flow of the story.

Broken Magic follows Valeria and when the only thing that had centred her, her magic has become destructive.

Blind Magic follows Sera who loses her sight and is heartbroken when she thinks that her beloved books and research has gone, but the only person who can hep can’t even stand to be in the same room as her.

Dead Magic follows the story of Violet and her interaction with the oldest Vampire, Finn. Will give in to the chemistry which is obviously between them.

I love India Kells writing and this is the first time I have read her fantasy books but they have the same well developed characters and gripping stories as all the other books. This is not normally my usually genre I read but because of the author I thought I would give them a go and was not disappointed.

All three of the books were full of the usual angst and chemistry with the interaction of the secondary characters you find yourself transported to the world of Vampires, witches and all that goes with this wonderful world. I would definitely recommend this series as a gateway to the unknown world of fantasy.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Sanctuary Chronicles Box Set – Book 1-3 + Novella by India Kells was a great 5 star read.
We get a great collection of the first three books in one along with a novella.

Broken Magic:
Valeria is a witch and her father is an enforcer. She has been given the job of hunting and killing those who are a danger to the supernaturals. This is when she meets Asher, he is the head of the werewolves that she was hunting. There is a connection between these two. But….if they were to be together it could mean death. Are they willing to take that chance?
Something wacky also goes on with Valeria’s magic that causes tragedy causing her to be banished. We jump ahead a couple of years when she runs into Asher again but it’s not a pleasant visit, he has plans to kill her. Overall this was a great read with several unexpected twists and turns.

Blind Magic:
Sera is a witch who is gradually losing her sight. She is curious and likes to learn about things and she isn’t shy about asking people questions. I loved the scene where she asked Ian to turn for her so she could see how it was done.

We move forward with a great story with mystery and twist and turns. The author does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I really liked Sera’s strength and fierceness in protecting her loved ones. The connection between Sera and Ian was great, you could feel it coming off the pages.

Dead Magic:
Finn is a very old vampire, he is at the point where he is ready to meet his maker. However, when a certain someone connects with him and asks for his help, his plans change immediately. She is the one and only person he would stay for.

Violet lost her parents to a vampire and should hate them but something about Finn pulls her in and she can’t stop thinking about him. He’s different from the others. When Finn arrives to help Violet, they discover that working together makes them stronger, can they work together to keep Violet safe and help with her internal war?

Overall this was a great read, my emotions were all over the place. The characters were all great. I love Violet and Finn’s connection.

Hidden Magic (Novella):
This is Kat and Brant’s story. These two have a great chemistry that comes off the pages.
Brant is a were-lynx and when Kat is kidnapped he is determined to find her. When he finds here will he be able to help her get through her demons and fears from her kidnapping? I really liked both characters from the start, Brant pulled me in right away with his feelings for Kat. The author does a great job of pulling you in with her writing, you feel like you’re right there with all of the characters. 1-click and get started today on this great collection. I look forward to reading more from this author.

No Rest for the Wicked (Life is Hell #1)by Naomi Valkyrie

5 out of 5 stars

This is my first read by Ms. Valkyrie and she has a new fan I simply loved this story that I finished the book in one day. The characters where amazing and written well I loved their little quirks and the way they came together. Her description of the scenery was amazing that I thought that I was at the lake with the characters.

Delilah Hawthorne is a burnt-out demon that owns a bar she is needs a break. One minute she is pouring drinks in the bar the next she is in her car driving out of the city with no specific destination.

She finds herself in Juniper Lake but Juniper Lake isn’t what it seems it holds its own secrets. Delilah thinks she found the perfect place to recharge no more killing or vengeance. Just the sweet relief of peace and quiet.

But the joke is on Delilah…. What does she find in this small town? Will she get the peace she needs? Will she find something that will change her life for the better? Can she have a happily ever after?

I just simply loved this book and cannot wait to read the next book in this series….

Ohhhhh this was a treat I didn’t know I needed! I have a penchant for dark romance, like I seek these books out like my life depends on it. This book is the perfect read for me in this sense and I devoured it quickly in one sitting because I just could not put this gem down. If you haven’t had a chance to read Naomi Valkyrie then this is the place to start for you, you will be hooked.

This book takes the demon and makes you absolutely fall in love with her. Delilah is a demon of course but she too needs a break. As she puts it even a demon needs some downtime! She is exactly like me and throws some of her belongings in a bag and hits the road, finding herself in a small sleepy little town that looks like a perfect place to relax and find some much needed peace. Of course things are not always what they seem and Delilah is thrust into a new mystery that will turn her world upside down! This is one you don’t want to miss if you love the dark romance, witty characters, and laughs to break up the suspense occasionally. I am so freaking excited to get my hands on the next installment in this series and see what will happen next! I need it like, yesterday lol.

Bonds That Beckon (Daughters of Anubis Book 1) by Kelli Kimble – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Bonds that Beckon (Daughters of Anubis, #1)Bonds that Beckon by Kelli Kimble
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an enjoyable and engaging YA paranormal novel and the first book in the new ‘Daughters of Anubis’ series by Kimble. Iris and her family move to a close-knit small town called Salvation in West Virginia where Iris just wants to fit in and graduate from Salvation high. However, her and her family are seen as newcomers and the other students don’t take to Iris as there is something a bit different about her. Having met the mysterious Mr. Anu, also an outsider, he offers Iris an opportunity she can’t refuse but soon he is telling Iris strange things about who and what she really is and is meant for. The residents of Salvation our quick to protect their own and when things go wrong Iris soon finds herself expelled from school, homeless and in opposition with the townspeople. After her father is arrested by the formidable Sheriff Stone things quickly escalate and in the midst of all this confusion she meets Jacob and feels drawn to him but is unsure if he feels the same. Iris starts to wonder if the things Mr. Anu told her about soulmates, and about herself our actually true, especially when she starts sprouting fur. This is a coming of age story about a young women who just wants to be accepted for who she is with a paranormal twist. I loved the characters who all added something different to the story and Iris is a relatable character who the author makes you really feel engaged with, which helped me become immersed in the story. I became hooked whilst reading this novel, the storyline flows well and the plot has plenty going on in it to keep you turning the pages. I look forward to book two in the series.

5/5 Stars

Bonds That Beckon (Daughters of Anubis #1) by Kelli Kimble

This is the first book I’ve read by Kimble. I will definitely be on the lookout for more.

Iris doesn’t fit in and isn’t comfortable in her new town. She doesn’t have any friends and isn’t making any. She meets Mr. Anu and he helps in more ways than one. The quote I chose for Iris is: “Mr. Anu has been nothing but kind to me. And it’s not as if we’ll be sitting around like regular houseguests. He has plenty of work to do around the farm and no hands except for me. Daddy and I can help outside, and Mother can make meals and clean and properly stock his pantry.”

Jacob is someone who can relate to Iris. He doesn’t fit in and when his sister tells him about Mr. Anu he doesn’t believe. Things make him see light once he meets Iris. The quote I chose for Jacob is: “I can’t tell you. But it’s gonna be great.”

Highly recommended for paranormal lovers.

The is the first book in the Daughters of Anubis  series and wow what a start. It contained two of the things I love, paranormal and Egyptian history. The twists and turns in this book are amazing to keep you guessing. The characters are likeable and the lead character Iris is very strong.

Iris is just another girl who’s moved to a new town, started a new school and struggles to make friends. When a chance encounter with a Mr Anu  happens her life is turned upside down and things happen she could never imagine.

Is what Mr Anu  telling her the truth about who and what she is? Is her destiny really already written for her? Do soul mates exist? And can she survive in a town when everyone in it is out to get her and her family?

This is a story of acceptance, belonging and how not belonging can cause a lot of trouble, both for the individual and those around them.

Iris has just moved to Salvation with her parents, it is a close knit community where everyone knows everyone else, they have a close bond with each other and will do anything to protect what they have. She is seventeen and wants a normal life, but she just doesn’t fit in no matter how much she tries and history is repeating itself as usual when being different isn’t something any teenager wants.

Then one day as she is cycling home from school, she gets a flat tire, as she is deciding to walk home with it and dreading it, she is approached by a stranger in a flatbed truck who offers her a lift home, as she is considering the offer, the man introduces himself as Mr Anu and he won’t take no for an answer, so Iris accepts his offer and as they speak during the drive, Mr Anu asks whether there are any local boys who would like to help him out at his farm, Iris says she will ask, although not having friends is going to make that difficult, she gets the details of the offer and after Mr Anu drops Iris off at the corner of her street, she thanks him and starts to head home.

The next thing she knows is that another truck pulls alongside her filled with some of the local boys and one in particular insists on helping her with her bicycle, he is rather pushy and again, doesn’t take no for an answer. Iris escapes by going inside, but he hangs outside the house holding her bicycle until her father arrives home, starts making polite conversation and gets himself an invite to dinner. Over dinner Iris is feeling more and more uncomfortable and is trying to be polite until Gary leaves, but not without making her feel as uncomfortable as it gets.

As Iris is trying to tell her parents what happened, she is dismissed as not being polite and heaving no manners, but talk moves onto college and her future, but her father says that she shouldn’t go to college, but get a job instead and settle down, this is where Iris has the idea to take on the work at Mr Anu’s farm and her parents agree to it, although they aren’t impressed when they find out what kind of works she is doing. As Iris finds that she is happiest when working for and with Mr Anu, he talks about his past and her own past and herself, these questions lead to an unforeseen answer to why she feels different and in the meantime, at school Gary is becoming more pushy and still not taking no for an answer.

This is where things take a turn for the worse and the town’s loyalties come to the fore when Iris makes a choice with terrible consequences and the whole town bands against her and her family. What will happen to Iris and her family, are the consequences she faces going to impact others as well as herself? Will the town ever leave them alone and will this new knowledge about her past and future become a part of her and those around her, or rip her world apart?

Bonds that Beckon (Daughters of Anubis, #1)Bonds that Beckon by Kelli Kimble
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I LOVED this book! It is very well written and the author has mastered captivating an audience. Mr. Anu is so mysterious and patient. It’s hard not to look forward to what else he may reveal about himself and this new life that he is offering. The connection between Iris and Jacob is adorable. I’m overjoyed with the ending of the book and how everything tied together! Book 2 has been added to my TBR pile!

This author continues to show how much of an incredible writer she is! Having read this authors books before you think you know what to expect but each time she takes you along on an unexpected journey of twists and turns, action, adventure, drama, danger. She gives us paranormal and fantasy to the highest level and I absolutely love being captivated and drawn into her reads each and every time. This is a fast-paced, action-packed read that has you connecting to the main characters easily and love following their journey. Delilah has got to be the best lead female I have read in a while, I love how she is as a person, I love her attitude and her personality and I wanted more!
