Watcher (Star-Crossed Celestials Book 1) by A.L. Morrow – Review by Darian Donaldson

Watcher (Star-Crossed Celestials Duet #1)Watcher by A.L. Morrow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jace and Cyrus are on opposite sides of a war. Watchers and demons versus Messengers. When they meet, the connection they feel is instant. I loved the relationship between these two. Their relationship is put to the test in this book and it pulls right on your heart! It ends on a cliffhanger but continues into book 2! It will make you want to immediately dive into the second book to find out what happens next!

Watcher (Star-Crossed Celestials Book 1) by A.L. Morrow – Review by Shelly Kittell

Watcher (Star-Crossed Celestials Duet #1)Watcher by A.L. Morrow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is an adventure. The messengers, the watchers, a heist. The drama, the intensity make for a great book. The characters are out of this world (no pun intended). I think the characters are so well-written. The toughness and grit they have make the actions believable. The plot is non-stop action. There are twists and subplots, yet they are intertwined and all come together to ride out fairly smooth. This book is entertaining and one I fell in love with. The action will get you right from the start. Highly recommend.

Watcher (Star-Crossed Celestials Duet #1)Watcher by A.L. Morrow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Watcher is the first book in this captivating Romeo and Juliet retelling duology. This paranormal tale is a must for supernatural lovers. It is a fairy tale with a major twist. It is a MM tale that is sexy and it is definitely original and different which is what I have come to expect from AL.

I don’t want to give too much away because AL’s stories should be discovered all by themselves.

If you love fairy tale retellings with a sexy twist, then you are certainly going to love this one.

Jace is a Watcher a fallen angel who is being hunted, on the run and hiding from the Messengers, celestial beings from another realm.

As an archangel, Xavier’s life should involve hanging out on a cloud while playing the lute and singing Kumbaya.

Not exactly.

Risks lurk everywhere. Xavier’s fellow archangels don’t get along. On Earth, humans are killing each other faster than ever. The Queen of Hell, Onyx, is scheming to take over Heaven, Earth and everything in between. Worst of all? The King of the Angels, Lucifer, is acting in ways that can only be called beyond strange.

So Xavier toughens up. He builds alliances. Fights demons. And designs tools to outsmart those who want war. With every success, Xavier replaces another one of his golden wing feathers with a gleaming metal blade. And love? There’s no room for that in Xavier’s heart.

Because no matter what the trouble might be, Xavier plans to be its archenemy.

Jace has spent his entire life on the run from the Messengers, celestial beings from another realm who hunt his kind: Watchers, the fallen angels responsible for corrupting humanity … Then he meets Cyrus, the handsome Messenger with an easy smile who finally makes him want to stay in one place. The problem? Jace is the last descendant of the first disgraced Watcher, placing him just one rung below demons on the Messengers’ most-wanted list.

But Cyrus isn’t like other Messengers. He came to Sin City—the center of the angelic conflict—seeking peace, not more war. He doesn’t count on falling for the moody, dark-winged Watcher from the wrong side of town. Nor does he count on learning that his true enemy lurks closer than he ever imagined. As tensions rise between the celestial clans, will love or vengeance rule?

Romeo and Juliet gets a celestial spin (and a happier ending!) in this duology featuring forbidden love, a ride-or-die demon, a supernatural casino heist, bar brawls, and banter. Intended for readers ages 18+ and best enjoyed when read in the following order: Watcher (Book 1), Messenger (Book 2).

Note: This book ends on a soft cliffhanger and contains some sensitive content. Readers may wish to check the Author’s Note for details.

Death & Mirrors (All Things Dark & Deadly Book 1) by SF Benson – Review by Shannen Kern

Death & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book OneDeath & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book One by S.F. Benson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is downright amazing, I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! I devoured it in a matter of hours, and it still felt like I couldn’t read fast enough! Evaline is a necromancer who loves a good mystery. She is also a very strong female lead which is very refreshing. Her father is stricter than Evaline can accept and only sees her as a future wife to someone of his choice. This is obviously not Evaline’s wishes so she takes matters into her own hands. She finds herself and her wonderful beacon, Delbert, transported to a mirror world called Londinium. They both instantly feel the danger and urgency to solve the mysterious killings by an entity known as Doctor Death. Will they be able to return to their world unharmed or will Londinium be their new, dark home? I cannot wait until Book 2 of this series! It is one I will be waiting for at the edge of my seat!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a beautiful blend of Alice in Wonderland with necromancy, magick, and darkness. The mystery that is being solved is so intriguing and really kept me on the edge of my seat- I could NOT put this book down. I LOVE Evalines character- she has so much strength and girl power. The idea of the mirror world isn’t new but the authors writing and the characters trials throughout give it a fresh take. Also- name a better villain name then Dr. Death. So many elements of this book were perfectly executed- the interactions of the characters with Evaline, her detective work, the magick, the artifact, the writing- it was all good to be honest! There were times I couldn’t figure out where the story was going to go- and that suspense is my favorite! Definitely give this one a read. 💖

Death & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book OneDeath & Mirrors: All Things Dark & Deadly, Book One by S.F. Benson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Death & Mirrors by SF Benson is the first book of All Things Dark & Deadly. There’s this main female character, her name is Evaline Wainwright, she is a necromancer, she has always wanted to be a detective just like Sherlock Holmes. Her father on the second has wanted her to be with a man from next door, she has no feelings for, what really happens with him? There is also this other man, is it love or is it because he’s safe and she’s known him forever? But this once in a lifetime opportunity falls into Evaline’s hands, there’s mirrors and another dimension the opposite of what she is used to, it all happens in a place called London. This particular mission has been dropped into Evaline’s hands because a very mysterious woman comes calling on Evaline’s father to come find and artifact, which he refuses so Evaline decides to take it into her own hands. But theres this Dr. Death that is taking peoples life’s and if Evaline doesn’t find this artifact to help take this evil out then everyone will be in jeopardy. This is where the story begins. To find out if Evaline finds the artifact and takes down Dr. Death if she has any help you need to read the book.

All in all I loved this book, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to finish it. Its really like Alice in Wonderland, which I loved so of course I’d find this book fascinating. Thank you for writing the book. Hope more is to come.

If I had to get straight to the point about this book and in just one sentence describe it, I would say that it is a highly entertaining, querky Paranormal romance that keeps you interested from start to finish. But since when do I get straight to the point! LOL. I really enjoyed all elements of this book from the wonderful characters, some you love and some you hate, to the storyline filled with both heart and laughter. I will definitely be going back and reading book 1 then reading book 2 again as I believe it will further enhance my enjoyment of the series. This author definitely has a new fan in me.

Enchanted in Time by Nikki Lynn Barrett. This was such a good read. Its a paranormal, friendship, sad story that once you start you won’t want to put down. Claudette Grayson is a 90 something year old author who needs a caregiver, Roxanne Ferris is dealing with a horrible tragedy and needs to keep her mind busy so she takes the job. They quickly bond over books and other things in their lives. Their friendship blossoms and thinks are going smoothly until Roxanne starts seeing things, like a character from a book she and Claudette discussed she starts to think she is truly losing her mind. The house and Claudette have more going on than meets the eye and Roxanne will either lose what little mind she has left or figure out what is going on. This is truly a beautiful story of friendship, tragedy, loss and love. It will keep you flipping pages til the very end!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Julia’s depression resulting from the events in the previous books is so very palpable entering the 3rd installment of this series. Her sanity is questioned and she has many demons to battle to win back the trust of those closest to her. There were many unanswered questions that this book addressed in such a beautiful way. This author’s writing draws the reader into her world with her characters. I was thrilled with this book and am anxiously awaiting jumping into the next one.

The author did not disappoint. I hope we get novels in this series. The covers are so beautiful and alluring that it entices one pick it up.
I love supernatural elements and this novel has so much of it. Such an enticing novel.

Enchanted in Time by Nikki Lynn Barrett

Enchanted in Time is a wonderfully written Paranormal story that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. I’m a huge fan of this author. Her style of writing along with her creative characters make for one heck of a story. I got pulled in from the beginning and got lost in the pages. At times I literally felt like I was apart of the story. Her attention to detail is so on point. This is a story about Roxanne and Claudette. Claudette is a best selling author with one dying wish and that is to spend her last days in a house she absolutely loves being in. Roxanne is her caregiver and she loves listening to Claudette’s stories. These two bond over said stories but then strange things start happening she begins to question whether its real or not. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

This series just keeps getting better! Julia’s story continues and so do her hardships. This third book is just as fast paced and amazing as the first two. Julia grows a lot in this book and you learn more about why Samuel felt so much power in her. Once you think you have things figured out there’s a plot twist. I so enjoy reading Julia’s story and the trials she has to go through. All of the added abilities and ways of the vampires in this series has been a very interesting story. I will be reading more from this author as I love her ideas and writing style. I am absolutely loving this series and am looking forward to book 4!

This second book in the series picks up with Julia telling more of her back story. I’m really loving this series! Its a fast paced story that kept me reading and not wanting to stop. I I really enjoy the authors writing style and their storytelling style. You read from Julia’s perspective mostly and want nothing but for her to be happy. There is so much emotional scarring but is it to much to overcome? With the suspense building and another twist this one is hard to put down.

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny #3)Between Darkness & Light by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The first two books in the series give us the backstory of Julia, a human girl who is eventually turned into a vampire. Her story continues to evolve as she meets many friends and foes, while learning to cope with her new lifestyle. Over the last few decades, Julia has learned a lot about humanity and vampires. The things she thought she knew have been all but disproven as she has grown to learn more about herself, despite how painful that journey of discovery was for her and the ones closest to her.

Will Julia be able to fix the wrongs of her past? Will the resistance ever accept her back and help her finish the battle she agreed to take on in the first book? This was a wonderful read and I was very pleased to learn that there is a fourth book. I’m looking forward to reading it so that I’m able to continue this journey with the characters I’ve grown to think of as friends.

The second installment of the series, Pursuit into Darkness, is a great continuation of the War of Destiny Series. When we left off in the 1st book Julia had recently been changed into a vampire and had turned her childhood love interest into a vampire too. This book picks up several decades later, and has the characters living back in London when a new conflict faces them. As revealed to us in the first installment, all vampires have a special power, and it is in this book we learn what Julia’s power is. Now the question is ‘will she learn to use her powers to come out victorious?’. For the sake of preserving the element of surprise, this is a story you must read to see how our characters fare when chaos ensues.

This was a really good read! Not only was it short and quick, it was packed full of emotions and twists. I thought I had the twist figured out (and I had one of them figured out) but not all of them! It was very interesting reading this one because o haven’t read a novel quite like this one before. It was also romantic, and can be read at any age really. In the 3rd Book of the War of Destiny series, Between Darkness and Light begins where the second book ended. Julia made a truly difficult decision at the end of Book 2, and this book flawlessly picks up where it left off. I love how this book shows how much Julia’s decision truly impacted the members of the ka-tet. The characters in this third book continue to evolve and change with, not only the story itself, but the time period in which they find themselves. Theresa Van Spankeren does an amazing job describing all of the new places traveled to. There is still so much emotion in this book, just like the other two in the series so far! I could feel the sadness, the excitement over small triumphs, the pain that is felt. I cannot wait to read more by this author!

I started off reading this series not sure how I would feel about it, since I’ve never read any vampire stories prior to this one, but I quickly grew to realize that I enjoy the storyline and characters immensely. Lost Soul is the first book in the War of Destiny Series and it was a great read. The author established all of the characters really well and takes the time to give the background of the main character Juliana. Juliana, or as she likes to be called Julia, is a very relatable character who is very young when she experiences many life altering events. Although she has been through a significant amount of harsh events she is still a very humble and innocent young lady, who has more spunk and desire to live than most. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment of the series to see how her story progresses.

It’s been five years since Julia made a horrible choice and betrayed those she loved the most. They aren’t getting over it anytime too soon it seems but there are Hunters on the prowl and some of Valentino’s minions moving in on them. If this group can’t get it together, the ka-tet will fall apart and they will all lose their lives!!

Julia can’t seem to apologize enough for what she has done. It’s not until a young human comes and encourages Julia to do the hard things to see if she can get back in the good graces of her group. Will they accept her back? What about all these nighttime revelations she’s having? These Hunters….they are haunting Julia too. So many questions and not a lot of time for answers!

I enjoyed this book and read it fairly quickly. This one contains a lot of action, more so than the first two books in this series. We learn more about Matthew’s background, as well as Samuel’s. I’m really hoping to learn more about Mary Anne’s abilities….she’s got something very special! I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!
