A new to me author, and upon reading her bio I discovered this is her debut novel. WOW. What a great start in writing. Even though I was able to kind of figure out who the person was terrorizing Keira, I was still surprised at the over all outcome and discovery of other information. This book will keep you turning pages and make you want to finish just to know who did it.

The romance part is well written and I LOVE Cade and Keira. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

Mesmerised is the second book in the Hybrid Lovers series by Toya Richardson. I love Ms. Richardson’s original take on the lore surrounding vampires and angels, and as the first book was fantastic, I had some high expectations for this book, but I am not surprised that Ms. Richardson doesn’t disappoint.
I think this just might be better than the first book- but really, they are both superb. It could be read as a standalone, even though it is ‘set’ before the events in “Captivated” (Book #1)- but in saying that I highly recommend reading the first book as well as this one, as otherwise not only would you be missing out on a great story, but there are also other relevant details to the series there that will enhance your reading experience.
It is a fated mates paranormal romance, with angel/vampire hybrids, demons, action, danger, magic, emotion, chemistry, sizzle, sweet & heartwarming moments, drama, angst, humour, tension, and an evil adversary.
If you love paranormal romance with a captivating story, chemistry, sizzle, and fated mates- then you will definitely want this book/series in your life!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Toya Richardson!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Intense. Oh wow. So, Mavery Ellscott is officially one of my top favorite new authors of the year. Before this book I hadn’t heard of this talented author but wow. Told from dual perspectives of Keira and Cade this book may be a slow-burn romance, but action, mystery and suspense start on page one.
Keira is a thirty-two-year-old PR rep that has had a rough couple of months mixed with a dream finally coming true. She has been invited by her bosses to become a partner with them, a dream fulfilled right. Wrong, she has worked too hard and won’t give up the chance easily even if that means keeping the lid closed on her past and now, she has a stalker. Cade is an ex-Navy SEAL that owns Shadow Defense Security, a private military contractor, with four of his fellow service brothers. From the first time they officially meet both are attracted to the other but have their own reservations. Cade notices instantly the stress when meeting Keira only made more concerning that evening when after a brief incident, she spills the truth to him. Saying the words out loud fills her with terror as she tries to keep up her appearance so that it doesn’t bother her. Her stalker is no longer content hiding behind their phone, all in one day he not only breaks into her car but her house. Cade’s seen and heard enough he’s not taking no for an answer he is going to help Keira.
Will Cade’s company be able to help Keira before it’s too late? Keira locked the door to her past but is it what’s haunting her now or is it someone else? Can Keira and Cade find a safe place in each other where the doors open up and the truth let out? The world the author creates is real, it happens every day to countless people, but unlike Keira they don’t all have an ex-Navy SEAL living next door whose next mission is to keep her safe. How the characters interact, and their internal monologues is very relatable not only in the funny or reminiscent moments but in the fearful ones where you forget how to think, and you just do. Keira and Cade could be your neighbors, friends, colleagues, seeing them not only figure out who and why she is being stalked but the comfort they bring each other keeps you rushing to finish the page just to see what will happen on the next one. I will be keeping an eye out for the next instalment in this new suspense series.

What an amazing start to the series! I loved Keira and Cade so much, and the author had my immediately invested in these characters. They are relatable and their chemistry is wonderful. I was drawn in from the very first page and couldn’t read fast enough through the twists and turns! The synopsis is artfully worded as to not give anything away, so I won’t either. I’ll be you have to guess through the entire book what is happening and who is behind it because I sure as heck couldn’t make up my mind. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series as this author has a brilliant way with words. I highly recommend picking this one up if you’re a fan of romantic suspense with a touch of danger!

I finished this book in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t put it down, I was instantly sucked into the book. The intrigue started on the first few pages and didn’t end.

The stalker was relentless with Keira, I would have been terrified and I was able to feel some of her fear. Having a hot former SEAL living next door certainly helps her feel safe to a point. Her trust would have made it a lot easier.

I love these books and I always try to figure out who is involved and I was so wrong on who I thought it might be.

I’m so ready for the next book to come out.

This was a great heartfelt love story! Both characters are very strong willed and have a lot of growth. I will say some parts were hard to read and could be triggering. This story definitely pulls you in from the beginning. I had not read the first book but plan to go back now and read it. The author has a great writing style that keeps you wanting more. I really liked reading from both characters’ points of view. If you are looking for a good romance with some steamy scenes then this is a great one to pick up.

Liz's Road TripLiz’s Road Trip by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Liz’s grandmother dies, Liz sets off to spread her ashes at the Florida home. Along the way, Liz learns about another side of her grandmother through the tenet at the house. Liz also learns about herself.
Opinion
This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. My father in law recently died and it certainly brought back some amount of grief.
I really was consumed by this book, more so than I have been in any book recently. With shorter chapters, the book seemed to fly by (even though it was quite long.) I did not want to put the book down for any of the mundane tasks like taking the kid to his XC practice. I was fortunate to have read this book while on vacation and fear that if I would have read it while working that I would have gone to work quite tired.
The romance was cute. At first, I was a bit creeped out by how much he knew her but by the end it was endearing.

Liz’s Road Trip is a sweet romance that deals with love, grief, learning about the past, and friendship. Liz has lost her grandmother and learns she did not know as much as she once thought she knew about her. Liz travels to her grandmother’s home and meets Mark. He has been writing her grandmother’s story and fills Liz in on the past she didn’t know about. The story has lots of emotions while at the same time being relatable. I enjoyed the characters and story. Also, I enjoyed the relationship that builds between Liz and Mark. Liz has a lot that she has to deal with emotionally while also taking in all the changes her life is experiencing. This is a great story if you need an emotional but heartwarming read. I look forward to reading more by this author soon.

I found this to be a book full of adventure, magic, fantasy, steaminess and some elinaefae fun. The characters are complex and complicated. They are well-written. This is a male triad that is trying to form itself into a new relationship. The story line is intriguing. It pulled me in from the beginning with its broody mood and everyone trying to figure Elin out. It’s a well-written stand-alone that is part of the elinfae duology series.

This action packed romantic suspense thriller was a real page turner and it had me hooked throughout. When PR rep Keira O’Ryan’s life in invaded by a dangerous stalker she turns to her new neighbour, a former SEAL for help. Cade Hartford is now a Private military contractor, who is fed up with being on office duty while he’s rehabbing, and so he jumps at the chance to help Keira. He realises that catching the faceless stalker will be difficult as he’s already eluded the Montana police. When the stalker escalates his plan, Cade finds himself trying to outwit an adversary who seems to be one step ahead of him all the time. With Keira and Cade working together they can’t ignore their growing attraction, but as their relationship develops Cade is worried about mixing business with pleasure. With Keira uncertain who she can trust and her life in danger, Cade must uncover the identity of the stalker in time to save her. I was gripped by the fast paced storyline and the plot twists kept me guessing as to the outcome of the story. I enjoyed the slow burn romance between the main characters, both of whom were likeable and relatable. The chemistry between Keira and Cade definitely came across in the narrative, and I liked how their relationship developed throughout the story. An entertaining and enjoyable read!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I fell in love with the characters in Captivated the first book in the Hybrid lover’s series and am just as captivated by this second book, Mesmerised. Even though it is the second book in the series it actually takes place before the first book Captivated so they can be read as standalones.
Wow, talk about emotional overload but there is also fun to be had. It’s a hard toss up but I think his one is my favourite story to date by Toya. Although I did say that last time. LOL. This a fated mates romance tale is unique and original, and I really enjoy the ease of Toya’s writing.
Antoine is a hybrid mix of vampire and angel. He knows his perfect mate is out there but has yet to find her.
Donna is human and in the depth of despair but meeting her unexpected fated mate changes that.
These wonderful characters are so easy to fall in love with and find yourself invested in their story.
This gripping paranormal tale full of magic and supernatural elements, drama, angst and so much more. It is also sweet, sexy and sizzling hot. There lots of action and danger when faced with demons hellbent on destroying mankind.
Trust me you will fall in love with this story and won’t be able to put it down until you have finished it. Remember sleep is overrated.

I’m always excited when this author has a new book out, and I was definitely not disappointed by this latest novel. The storyline focuses on Liz Evans who has set out on a cross-country road trip, along with her grandmother’s cat, to carry out the final wishes of her grandmother. Along the way Liz learns that the grandmother that she knew, who was always collecting coupons was actually a very wealthy women, and a Hollywood icon who had many international lovers. Having been raised by Betsy, Liz is shocked by her discoveries, and even more so when she meets biographer, Mark Watts, who is living in her grandmother’s Palm Beach home, which she also knew nothing about. Mark is then able to tell Liz about her grandmother’s past, becoming a confidant in the process. As their friendship turns into something more and their relationship develops, the Liz who likes her solitude realises that she might just need a house in Palm Beach, a man and her grandmother’s crazy cat to be happy! I thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming romance which had me hooked from page one. I loved the characters and the chemistry between Liz and Mark really came across in the narrative. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I’m so glad I found it. The plot is entertaining with plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged and the characters are well-constructed.

I loved how the tension was built throughout and the way secrets were discovered/revealed. It added to the suspense and feeling of danger for Veronica.
I also loved the relationships between characters and how this develops over time. Familial relationships, romantic relationships, betrayals and more were all crafted very well it all felt believable.

I don’t want to reveal too much but if you enjoy suspense novels with some romance, this is the book for you. I look forward to reading more from this author.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An enjoyable and engaging western romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Katelyn Sullivan has to travel across the country in order to help treat an injured prized thoroughbred, however when she arrives, the owner, Grant Tennyson stands in her way. It soon becomes clear that if Katelyn wants to save the horse, then she needs to get close enough to Grant to find out why he doesn’t want her to help. As Katelyn gets closer to Grant she realises that his painful past may be stopping him from moving forward. However, she didn’t expect that losing her heart might be an option when getting to know the grumpy Grant. This is book two in the series and Katelyn is Elle (from book one) sister, however it can be read as a standalone story. Both Katelyn and Grant are likeable and relatable characters and their chemistry sizzled off the page. It was an emotional rollercoaster of a read, as the characters overcome issues both in their pasts and in the present. The descriptive narrative once again brought the setting to life which made me feel immersed in the storyline.

I was so excited to jump back into this series. it had been a little while since I had read the previous book in the series and I couldn’t wait to see what else this author had produced. This book was every bit as good as the rest of the series, if not better. I was pulled straight into this book and the characters. It is full of chemistry and intrigue and I couldn’t put it down from the moment I started reading.
This series keeps getting better and better, and does not seem to be slowing down any time. This author really knows how to create an amazing story. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. Mesmerised (Hybrid Lovers Book 2) by Toya Richardson – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Mesmerised (Hybrid Lovers #2)Mesmerised by Toya Richardson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mesmerised is the Second Book in the Hybrid Lovers Series. Although this book is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone. The story centers around the characters of Antoine and Donna and is told from each of their POV. Antoine is an angel/vampire Hybrid whose role has been to protect humans from demons. He has been alone for centuries because he has not been able to find his mate but if he does not find his human mate soon, he is doomed to die. To remain immortal Antoine must find his mate and only together can they destroy a demon completely.

Donna has recently lost everything and has fallen into a deep state of depression. She lost both of her parents in a horrific house fire, lost her best friends, lost her job, lost all her money to a hacker, and then lost her home. Feeling as though she has nothing left to live for, Donna sets off to find a quiet place to end her life. She ends up at the beach thinking it is the perfect place but as she is walking into the water she is rescued by Antoine. He felt her presence, sensed her despair, and felt the connection to Donna. He instantly knows from the intense feelings that he is experiencing that this woman is his mate. When Donna awakens, she is shocked to learn that she was saved and is determined to get away, but Antoine will not allow it. Naturally, Donna feels as though she must have been kidnapped and that this strange man is crazy when Antoine tries to explain to her about the two of them being mates. Donna finds herself drawn to Antoine and feels an instant connection to him as well but cannot explain why. The connection and chemistry between Antoine and Donna is instantaneous, explosive, and undeniable. As the two try to navigate their feelings towards one another the demons are drawing closer. Will Antoine and Donna give in to fate and temptation? Will they realize they are destined to be together? Will they be able to defeat the demons?

This was a beautifully written book with an interesting storyline, engaging characters, and vividly described scenes. I found myself rooting for Antoine and Donna to act on their feelings for one another and be together. Donna had suffered so much loss and grief that I wanted her to find happiness. Antoine was looking for love and wanted someone to spend eternity with. I found myself reading to the end to see what would become of these two. If they would end up with their happily ever after. I needed to see if they together they would destroy the demons. A great read full of loss, sorrow, despair, grief, hope, demons, hybrids, and the power of love. I highly recommend this book!

Throwing the CurveThrowing the Curve by Lauren Fraser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Throwing the Curve (Playing for Keeps Book 2) by Lauren Fraser is a great sport/ romance.

Peyton Sharp takes great satisfaction in being a decent person and acting morally. How on earth did she get to be at a party with a married man, then? She wasn’t aware that he was married, but nonetheless. Evidently, despite having lived a long life, she was still a moron when it came to males. Ryan Graves, a standout pitcher, has been taught since he first picked up a glove the importance of being a good teammate. He never imagined that would include getting his dishonest teammate out of a problem. He steers clear of romance for a good reason. Now he’s pretending to date a lady who despises him. He was overly preoccupied with her and doubted everything he had held to be significant. He did not sign up for this, though.

Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a unique sports romance series. The story really brings excitement into your life. I couldn’t put the book down. As the story progressed, it made me glad I got the third one in the series.

Pete Saunders, a professional baseball player, never considered that Kendall would persuade him to violate the bro code when he agreed to let her stay with him while she was in town. First rule: Never touch your friend’s or teammate’s sister. Rule 2 is covered in Rule 1. But compared to the awkward young sister he knew, this Kendall is very different. Sage Advice by Cori Cooper – Review by Beverly Finnie

Sage AdviceSage Advice by Cori Cooper
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I felt like I went back to high school. However this time I didn’t hate it. Sage Advice is a cute story about you guessed it high schoolers. I love the advice column aspect of the story. Though I was able to figure some out, it still gave a different life to the book. Frankly just as oblivious as the main character exhibits throughout I didn’t realize that tidbit from the title. But it is glaringly obvious now.
Pyper is a high school senior, who had her heart shattered, and that incident revolved around prom. So what does she do? She swears off men, but at the same time lets everyone believe she’s in a relationship. She also tries to get prom canceled. Like I said, try. She learns some valuable lessons throughout this book. Some minor others may be a little more important. It’s the growth that she exhibits as she learns these lessons that really makes her character blossom.
Will she ever confront and/or let her ex-boyfriend go?
Will she open her eyes to not miss opportunities to be happy, that are right in front of her?
Those questions and so many more to get the answers too. There’s so many characters that Impact Pyper in different ways, which actually reminded me of the people I surrounded myself with at that age. They were friends for sure, but they all served a different purpose in your life if they knew it or not.
If you want something different, check out this young adult novel. Transport yourself back to a time when things didn’t matter as much as they do now. Teens, this book is definitely for you!

A night out with team owner’s son finds him in the hospital with woman whose life he terrorized as she was in charge of hockey PR. When he cashes in on an IOU for saving her that night, Wyatt and Serena start up quite an odd friendship. However, there is more at play here…his need to keep a clean image, her sneaky assistant, his uncontrollable mother, and the sliminess of her boss (and his son). The more time they spend together, the closer Wyatt and Serena get. But, as secrets come out, will these two be strong enough to withstand the storm?

I enjoyed these characters…as they balanced each other and evened each other out. I really enjoyed the supporting characters and how they were able to see the good in Wyatt when sometimes he couldn’t see it himself. Meanwhile, Serena had her own problems that Wyatt was able to support her through. They healed each other. It was a good story that I enjoyed reading!

Master Campania (Masters of the Consulate Book 7) by Sylvia Black – Review by Melissa Saxton

Master Campania: Dark Vampire Romance (Masters of the Consulate Book 7)Master Campania: Dark Vampire Romance by Sylvia Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can’t begin to describe how much I enjoyed this book.
It can easily be read as a stand alone, I did and I don’t feel I missed anything which is a tribute to the writer!
Vampires still hunting for rogues and the witches that may be helping these rogues causes Campania and Willow to cross paths and phew! The instant chemistry is real.
Paranormal romance, fated forbidden mates, and dark romance will have you at the edge of your seat and staying up way too late
Well done!
