Unexpected Heroes by Naomi Valkyrie. This is a short story about Elijah and Jude who end up being neighbors and more. Elijah has moved to town to start over with his infant son, Griffin and get away from his crazy past. His past relationship was very abusive and having to start over and deal with that is difficult so when Elijah meets Jude and they hit it off it helps so much. Elijah is very skeptical of all the friendly people in town including his new boss and new neighbor. Jude is a grieving widow whose husbands death nearly killed him. He’s also dealing with being a recovering alcoholic so when his heart does a little pitter patter for Elijah he is very interested. They begin spending more time with each other but Elijah is so gun shy still. When Elijah’s past comes back to haunt him and Griffin he does the only thing he knows how, shuts down. Will Jude be able to keep him forming completely leaving town and the chance they have at a relationship?
I had been reading psychological thrillers over the past few weeks and was looking for a book with a different level of excitement to pass my time. Enter Taste of Honey by Julie Castle. A change of pace comprised of three SPICY novellas. Each novella is approximately 10 chapters long and packed with entertainment from the first word. My favorite was the first story (The Gift) where we watch Penny’s character development as she begins to learn a whole new world. While each of the novellas have a damsel in distress type of undertone, the females were never hopeless and always palpable. Overall, this was a great series paced well with tons of spice and a great variety of spicy tropes in each installment.

Unexpected Heroes is an M/M romance. I’ve read several paranormal romances by this author in the past but this story is set in the real world without any fantasy or sci-fi elements. That said, it has many of the other themes and features I’ve come to enjoy from her work such as found family and recovery.
This is an enjoyable read for romance fans who like stories with a bit of drama and action in them. Elijah and Jude both have had difficult experiences in the past that they need to come to terms with as they realise their attraction for each other. In Elijah’s case, the problems of his past aren’t quite over yet.
The pace of this story picks up a bit towards the end, after a gentler start. I felt it left me wanting more, so hopefully there will be more books that tie in with this one to explore some of the other characters!
Unexpected Heroes gets four stars from me! I’d recommend it to fans of M/M romance who like stories with loveable supporting characters and plenty of plot to keep you entertained.

The Queen’s Dance is the second Heart & Hand Series book. This book follows Claire, the younger sister of Anna. Though this book is part of a series, you can read it without reading book one. In this story, Claire has decided to guard her heart but soon finds love. As tragedy unfolds, Claire has to adapt and evolve to survive. If possible, I enjoyed this book more than the first. The author’s amazing world-building and well-written characters stand front and center. You experience such an array of emotions just in the book’s first quarter. I loved seeing old characters return and their growth. There is as much adventure as the first. The romance is fabulous and the dialogue is witty and has good humor. You find yourself hooked quite easily. I look forward to the third book.

When I first started to read this book I went into it expecting a simple age gap romance but it truly is so much more. Filled with many twists and turns along the way and characters that will have you re-evaluating them constantly this really is an intriguing read.

I got to read this story when it was part of a compilation of stories by several amazing authors called, “Saved by the Everyday Hero” and loved it. Naomi Valkyrie is a great author; she brings the story to life through her magical way of writing such a realistic storyline. She takes her time developing the characters so dynamically that you can’t help but love them. I am so excited that this is now available as a story all by itself as well as in a compilation.
I absolutely loved reading this romance compilation; it was filled with happily-ever-after stories that enchanted me with every story. I loved getting to read so many different authors in one place. I have found some new authors that I will seek other works because they were so amazing at bringing the characters to life. There was at least one story that had someone you could relate to, I found there were so many that I could relate to in my life. Reading stories that make you feel warm and fuzzy was wonderful. If you love a good short romance story with a complete plot and all the character development, this is the book for you! I hope to be able to find more books like this in the future, where amazing authors come together to compile their work into one place for us romantics. @Brandy Rymer 07/2024

I have read a couple other books by this author, and it is just as incredible if not more so! There are three novellas within these pages, and I loved each one. I can’t even pick a favorite because they were that entertaining. Each story contains the steamiest of scenes and generally have themes of BDSM. The author wastes no time diving into the excitement and never slowed down at any point. There are no lulls in any of the stories at all. The characters are well developed, and I loved each of them for different reasons. It’s difficult to pick a favorite couple, but I think Penelope and Victor/Vlad stole my attention more than the others. This book is definitely packed with spice, so grab a fan now because you’ll need it! I can’t wait to pick up more by this author as they’ve quickly become a favorite to follow. If you enjoy steamy stories with engaging plots and wonderful characters, this is absolutely for you!

Naomi Valkyrie never fails to write a story that keeps you hooked from the first page. I have read quite a few by her and I have loved every single one. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I like stories that are told from multiple characters point of view. You get to know each character more. You get to know how they each think instead of just one side. This is a second chance love story. Both characters feel quite defeated after a loss. Both feel the need to start fresh. But can they move on from their past to find love again? When their past comes calling, will they get past it?
Red is the second book in the Modern-Day Fairy Tale series by M.K. Harkins. It follows Lily and George as they navigate life, love, and crazy women intent on ruining lives. Marilee, Fannetta, and Zuriel – fairy godmothers and guardian angel – band together to help. The book was well written and captivating. I didn’t read the first book but would highly encourage others to as it really sets up this book. I plan to go back and read it while I eagerly await the third!

This book was just what my poor over romanced genre self needed. I love that it was a slow burn. I do not often read these and I might have to rethink that as this was so good. I love how there was adventure and drama mixed in and that it wasn’t an in your face oversexed read. Don’t get me wrong I do love those but sometimes a girl needs one that just has a huge build up and a happy ending to boot. I love how the author is able to bring the characters to life. I felt as though I was right there in the adventure with them. Definitely a good second book from this series. I cannot wait to see how the series will continue and play out.

I have read a couple of books from this author and she always keeps me on my toes. I love a good male and male love story but this book exceeded my expectations. I love it when an author writes from both characters point of view. I feel more connected with them. I was hooked on this story right from the first chapter. I could not put it down until the end. I can’t wait to see what this amazing author will write about next.
Elijah Fox thought he had everything he ever wanted but then it was all taken from him in seconds. He is now in a new town trying to start all over. Elijah is a single dad to his baby boy Griffin. All he wants is to give his son the best life he can. Elijah meets his neighbor Jude and he feels something he has not felt in a long time. He sees that Jude is getting along with his son as well but he is not ready to give his heart to someone else. Elijah is shocked when his past finds him and now he and his son are in danger. Will Elijah be able to face his past or will it be too late? Review by @heatherbass
This is the second book in the series and it focuses on a different master and his mate. I love the characters and reading about their love story. I also love reading more about all the other masters and the drama and suspense in the vampire world.
I like that each book in the series focuses on one different master and his love interest while moving the story along so that all the books are tied together, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I didn’t even read the description to Unexpected Heroes, but I have enjoyed other books by this author. The book was not like the other books I have read by her, but I really enjoyed it. The book was short, but filled with a lot of content. It had a good balance of new relationship feels, as well as some suspense. I think it was a good book, but wish for more filler- more background of what happened to Marcus; more background on both Jude and Elijah; more time to develop their feelings. It all happened quite fast. Overall, its a good quick read to open all the feels and leave you feeling content with a happy ending.

From the start, The Handshake Agreement is a page turner. If you enjoy romance and forbidden loves, this will keep your attention. I do not read many romance books because (in my opinion) they are almost always alike. This one took me by surprise and I got into it much more than I thought that I would. Declan comes from a world of money and power, and it is all in the palm of his hand…if he accepts his father’s deal. Marry the girl of his choosing, and it will all be his. Declan accepts the agreement, asking for 10 years to do what he pleases before the agreement is signed in stone. Eight years later, Declan is picking up his younger sister from school and is asked to take her new friend, Anne, home as well. In the car, their eyes meet in the mirror and he feels a spark, but is determined to ignore it. Anne felt the same spark and connection Declan did, but after her father’s death and her mother’s depression, she wants no part of love. Three years later, Declan and Anne find themselves crossing paths again. Anne agrees to one night with Declan, no strings attached. As you may have guessed, this is not the fate of the two, and end up falling for each other. Keeping the relationship a secret can only last so long, as Declan’s dad has not forgotten the handshake agreement, and still expects his heir to marry sensibly. Now it is time for him to cash in on his part of the arrangement, and marry his bride to be. What will Declan do? Will he choose love over money and expectations, or will he leave Anne and fulfill his prophecy of being the golden child his dad expects? What will become of Anne when Declan pushes her away to marry for money and power? Will they resolve the relationship or find a way to persevere? This age gap romance has a great storyline and was easy to follow and hard to put down. I will be searching out the other books from this author and giving romance another chance!
Elijah moved to a new town to start with his infant son to get away from the past and start over. Leaving an abusive relationship is hard enough without having to start completely over. On top of that, having a baby to deal with too. Griffin is all Elijah has left. Elijah finds it hard to believe that people are willing to help him without a motive. His new boss is very accommodating, welcoming both him and Griffin with open arms. Even his hot neighbour, Jude, seems more than willing to lend a helping hand. Elijah wants to welcome Jude into his life but his trust issues are in the way.
Jude is a grieving alcoholic who lost his husband a year ago. When his new neighbour, a single dad, makes Judes heart start pumping again, he doesn’t know what to do about it. He deals with feelings of guilt with a sprinkle of hope. Even though they just met, he can see himself falling for this man and his cute baby.
Will the duo be able to put aside their negative feelings and come together or will something more sinister keep them apart?
I absolutely love Naomi Valkyrie’s books. Although they normally tend to write more fantasy than contemporary, this is a nice change of pace. The author writes novella sized books but with so much detail that it has the depth of a novel. They make the characters come to life with relatable feelings and actions. It is really easy to resonate with the characters and plots. I have said it many times and I will keep saying it. I highly recommend Naomi Valkyrie.
A Taste of Honey is book 4 in the Taste of Honey Series, but it is actually just one book containing the first 3 stories in the series. The Gift, The Commanders Club, and Once in Love are short, well written Novellas, that contain some BDSM tropes, and a lot of spice. The FMC is usually leading a lonely, unfulfilled life, or have gotten into trouble somehow, or is trying to make her way in the world, and the MMC happens a long at just the right time which I enjoy. I enjoyed this collection, the characters were great, the storylines were engaging and kept me turning pages.

I really enjoyed this set. Each book is short, a nice little read in between books and very steamy with a little drama sprinkled on top.
The Gift Penelope and Vlad’s story is hot! I love that fact that they are co workers at a library and he has been secretly watching her and falling in love, well maybe in lust first. Penelope’s tears always broke my heart because the pair doesn’t do much talking but, my fears are put to rest many times in the way Vlad takes care of her. I like that his friend at the club mentions that Vlad is obsessed with her, that kind of tampers her uneasiness of where their relationship is headed.
The commanders club Courtney and Dragon’s story is a step better than the last one. This story had more depth and a little suspense thrown in. I was so worried Courtney was going to get caught by Stringfellow, he seemed like just a nasty man. I am so glad Dragon was the one to train Courtney and their bond grew so nicely. My heart broke for her when she kept doubting they would end up together, it doesn’t seem like he wanted to take it all the way. Nicely ended
Once In Love Laura and Nick’s story is my favorite of the three! I totally swooned at the way Nick was instantly drawn to Laura at the courtesan auction and how he falls in love with her quickly. This story didn’t have as much bdsm as the other two, but still a nice little amount. The extra drama with Laura’s former boss made the story so much more interesting. I can tell there is no way Nick would have let Laura leave him.

I enjoyed reading these spicy stories. This is a collection of three shorter stories about a librarian, a journalist and one that is just stranded in Paris. They each are well written and bring romance to a new level. They are spicy, full of heat and characters that will pull you into their world with ease. They keep you engaged and turning pages fast. They are connectable and bring their stories to life. I enjoyed watching their growth throughout the story. I enjoyed this author’s writing style that made the stories realistic and hard to put down. They are fast paced and stories you don’t want to miss. This is a must read story for sure. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this collection.

Three stories in one book. Each is based on the BDSM Master/slave genre. I was not expecting the sizzle these stories provided. Each interesting in their own way. Out of the three stories, I related most to the characters in the third story. I was rooting for them. If you like a lot of spice in your reading, give this book a try.

Taste of Honey brings three worlds of a dominant and new-to-submission lifestyles together in one book. All 3 have tropes of a woman who needs saved and is rapidly introduced to the world of BDSM and come to love it, and their doms, immediately.
Penelope is a librarian who finds herself bored and curious in life. She and her best friend Joan talk about their hopes, dreams, love lives, and more. When Joan starts talking about her own experiences, it piques Penelope’s interest. When she receives a gift box at work holding a fun gift and a note, she is definitely curious. As more gifts arrive from “Mr. X”, she cannot keep her mind off of the possibilities, and decides to take him up on his offer of meeting in a hotel room. From there, she is introduced to things she had never imagined before. Penelope keeps learning new things about herself throughout her journey with Mr. X. Will they discover what they both need within each other?
Courtney is a journalist who has a case to investigate that she’s passionate about – her protege is missing after joining what proves to be a slave ring. They specialize in BDSM submissives of assorted training types for sale to buyers, and if Courtney wants to get in, she will have to prove to be a believable and well trained submissive to the men in charge. Lucky for her, Agent Ty Dragon is also pursuing this crowd of people undercover by becoming a Dom in their Club, and helping to properly train the slaves. While they are putting on a show for the criminals trafficking women, they are finding themselves deeper and deeper into caring for one another. Will Dragon be able to protect Courtney in time before she is sold off to the highest bidder? Will she be able to save Laura? Will they stay safe from one another?
Laura has become stranded in Paris and is so desperate that she agrees to enter a courtesan ball to make some money. While she is inexperienced, that is what catches the eye of Nick, a divorced billionaire who attended the auction strictly to get his sister-in-law to leave him alone. This is where he meets Laura and becomes completely entranced with her. What starts as good intentions to properly and safely train a new sub to keep them from being taken advantage of turns into far more. Will Laura save Nick as much as he saved her?

What an epic fantasy tale The Queen’s Dance has turned out to be. The magical realm of Aurelia and neighbouring kingdoms come to life under Nicoles clever worldbuilding. This book brings about a more mystical element as Clare learns that a curse may just be a gift. But she has many trials ahead of her. Will she get back to the man she loves. There is fear, loathing, angst, hope, heartache, heartbreak, passion, courage, and a lot more. It is a historical romance tale with paranormal elements, and I found I was drawn into this medieval story more and more as the clever plotting and trials and tribulations unfolded. This is three novellas in one book. It was my first time dipping my toe into these tropes and it was both interesting and eye opening. I really liked the characters and the stories in all three books even though they are all stand alone. In the first one the quiet librarian, Penny, gets a few gifts left at the library for her and is told to meet X at a hotel. She is curious so she goes to see who he is and ends up liking being submissive to X. He teaches her and dresses her, but she becomes more confident in her skin. In the second book, Courtney signs up for training at The Commander’s Club because she is trying to find her coworker who sent a text and is believed to be one of the slave girls. Coutrney’s master is a man she has been thinking about since she saw him at her office earlier in the week. Ty Dragon is undercover and they are trying to take down the owner of the club. They both start to develop feelings and they need to take down the club before she is sold off to another master. The last book follows Laura in Paris. She is accused of theft and then mugged and decides to become a temporary courtesan to earn money to get her back to the states. She is nervous and excited and hopes that a particular gentleman in the crowd is going to buy her but then he gets up to leave. Nick is there to make his sister in law happy since she says he needs to move on after his divorce six years before. He is taken by her and doesn’t want anyone else to get his hands on her, she seems so new and innocent and he knows the types of men in the room. Laura is sent to her master’s summer home, a mansion in the country, and is happy to see that it is Nick. He tries to make her submissive but he is not too hard on her and sometimes even she takes over. He is hoping to save her and hoping for her to stay. I know that not all bdsm stories probably have love and happy endings, but I enjoyed these!

Julie Castle is a natural-born romantic with a modicum of artistic talent inherited from her mom and a love for telling tall tales she got from her dad. That set her up for being a starving artist, the biggest fibber in the world, or a romance author. She’s so glad she chose the latter. She’s always had a love affair with the written word. As a child growing up in a small town, she loved visiting the local library, a converted gilded age mansion, and getting lost between the pages of a book. The drafty old mansion could be a spooky place, but she still loved it. She enjoyed poking into behind the scenes areas she wasn’t supposed to venture into. She’s still the same way, which is why she loves writing romance with an edge, paranormal, suspenseful, super sexy, or just laugh your pants off funny. She resides in Wisconsin with her family.

Not my first, definitely not my last time picking up a story from this brilliant writer Naomi Valkyrie. In this book it’s a M/M second chance romance. Which follows Jude and Elijah’s relationship. This was a super quick read (for me lol) it’s only 100 or so pages. Unexpected Heroes is filled with strong emotion, spice, suspense, danger and with a surprise twist that makes reading the story all the better. This author always has fantastic world building and the author’s character development is top tier. It amazes me just how well written this was in a short amount of time. I’m looking forward to reading more of this author’s work. Ps the Cover is pretty awesome. All the colors contrast (darker to lighter ) well to draw your eyes right to it.
Lost Hollow: A Small-Town Science Fiction Romance (Alienville Book 1) By Donna S. Frelick
Well, here’s to what is going to be a great series. Lost Hollow is the first great instalment in the Alienville series by Donna S. Frelick. Ok I have to admit it did take me a couple of chapters to get fully into this book, but once I did it is safe to say that I could not wait to turn the page to see what was going to happen next. This book has everything you could want in one book, suspense, drama, twists, and turns and just because the author could there is romance thrown in to the mix. The characters in this book are quite relatable and I am fairly sure you will enjoy reading about them. Claire is on the way to visit her sister Moira, who also happens to be her best friend and twin sister. On the way to visit Moira Claire has to take a detour which takes her to Allenville. The last message Moira received from Claire was to say she would be staying in Allenville for the night and when they continue her journey. How ever it has now been three days since Moira has heard anything from Claire, so Moira leaves her home in West Virginia and travels to Allenville. Moira books into the Traveller’s Rest Inn. While at the Inn Moira asks where she could get some help in finding her sister and is directed to the local police station where she meets the police Chief Seth Call. While Seth has a feeling, he knows what has happened to Claire and with his attraction to Moira he knows he also has to protect his town by keeping the towns secrets. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. This is another 5-star read for me.

Frelick – Review by Sue Kemp
The Queen’s Dance is the second book in the Heart & Hand series by Nicole E. Kelleher. It is a very original fantasy with romance, magic, adventure, action, chemistry, spice, challenges, dramatic developments, fate, tension, intensity, high stakes, culture, politics, emotion, banter, and humour. This expands on what we started in Book #1- but this time the story focuses on Claire and Trian. These characters were so easy to connect with- which made me completely invested in them and the outcome of the story. Again, as with the first book, Ms. Kelleher weaves a story full of clever and creative touches, not only is her world-building on point, but she also created an original lore around which she constructed her story. Another angsty adventure that pulled me in and kept me engaged the whole way through. Looking forward to Book #3. Happy Reading…
