Lost Hollow: A Small Town Science Fiction Romance, written by Donna S. Frelick, is the first book to the Alienville series. Moira’s twin sister Claire, who is on her way to visit, goes missing without a trace. Moira sets out to find her sister, whose last known location was Allenville. Moira is hit with dead-end after dead-end, trying to piece together where her sister may have gone. The Allenville citizens, including the hunky chief of police Moira has enlisted for help, Seth Call, have a fairly good idea of what has happened to Claire, but it would be very difficult to explain or get her to begin to understand the hidden truths of Allenville and its ways.
I cannot stress enough that I absolutely loved this book! The characters, the plot, the descriptions-everything melded together perfectly! The author did exceptionally well to keep the story moving at just the right pace to hold my interest from beginning to end without being too detailed or not detailed enough. I would love the opportunity to read the next book, to see how the story continues for these characters!

I first read this book as part of an anthology so when I saw it as a standalone I knew I had to get it and read it again. I forgot just how much I connected with these characters. I loved the fact that they were both so broken and flawed, trying to find their way back to some semblance of a normal life. For me, it was this similarity that drew them together, even though it also almost forced them apart. This story was so emotional and gripping. The author has created not only fantastic characters, but a story that really catches your attention and keeps you reading from start to finish. I loved the way everything as developed and I was completely invested from start to finish. This is a brilliant book by and incredible author. I would highly recommend this.
I loved this story so much! Elijah is such a great man and, great dad. He was dealt a crappy life thus far and everything seems to be looking up, especially meeting Jude. Watching Jude overcome his fear moving on and losing someone else he loves, and getting the courage to stop drinking was so beautiful, as well as watching him open his heart again to Elijah and Griffin. The added drama of how Jude learns of Elijah’s past and that past catching up to them made the story all that much more interesting.
I loved this story. Jude and Elijah are both dealing with relationship issues and happen to meet because they are neighbors. Thanks to Elijah’s sweet baby boy, they become friends and more. Life brings them challenges and obstacles, which they solve together. They end up saving each other in the end. It’s a beautiful story of love and friendship. It all blends so well together. I love how well the author brought it together so that it just flowed so smooth.
Short and sweet. It’s one of my favorite things about Naomi’s stories. They are full of detail but very short reads. I know I say it in every review but it’s the truth. This story was pretty cool. It was a M/M romance, it was a clean story unlike many others I have read of hers but I like that it was clean. Sometimes you want the storyline without the graphic detail. I would definitely read a continuation if there is one.

An enjoyable sci-fi romance which had me hooked throughout. When Dr. Moira McCann’s twin sister Claire doesn’t turn up for a visit, she gets concerned. Claire’s last text came from Allenville, a small town in the North Carolina mountains, so Moira travels there to find her. Arriving in the remote county of Allenville, Moira seeks help from its Police Chief, Seth Call. He knows that being early summer its mating season in the mountains for certain vicious species, meaning that anyone who wanders off the known paths becomes prey. However, despite Seth’s instant attraction to Moira, he must keep the secrets of his town, his people and their history. Although Seth keeps the truth about Claire’s true fate from her sister, Moira starts to think there is more to the little town than the sexy, but secretive Police Chief is saying. Moira is determined to discover her sister’s fate, even if the truth is unearthly. I found the characters to be likeable and relatable and the chemistry between Moira and Seth came across. The setting came alive through the descriptive narrative making me feel immersed in the storyline. The plot twists, element of suspense and of course the romance all kept me gripped until the last page.

We all grow up with fairy tales. I’ve always enjoyed works where they update the stories to more modern events and is reimagined a bit, and this book absolutely fits the bill. There is a lot happening with multiple POVs, lost loves, great fated loves, adventures and more – but it’s so well written that it’s easy to follow as you read through. Not as easy to explain when you’re trying to review without it getting jumbled. This was my first read by this author and the second book in this series, but I had no problems following and am working on the Cinderella book next!
Lily has gotten away from her mother and the tales of doom and gloom she carries when she goes away to college. The world is huge and exciting, and it’s really her first chance to experience things now that she is away on her own. In her journey, she meets George and they immediately have sparks flying – but George is stuck on a lost love and Lily is too ready to move forward after being held back by her mother for all of her life. He recognizes how drawn to Lily he is, but is scared and has to take a leap. Will he? Will Lily convince him how made for one another they are, or will she be forced to walk away from her soulmate?
Speaking of soulmates – any fated love needs a support team, right? This is where Merilee (an inexperience fairy godmother) and Zuriel (a guardian angel to another important character) come in. Merilee and Zuriel have explosive chemistry between them no matter the situation and are a lot of fun to follow with all the missteps they stumble through.
There are a lot of layers to this story and I did feel some of the scenarios could have been tied up differently for a better result, but overall I loved the rework and POVs. It wasn’t hard to follow although it was book 2 and there were several characters with a lot happening throughout the story. Cinderella’s book 1 is proving to be off to a fantastic start and I hope to find that this series grows!

This is the first book I have read from this author and wow she blew my mind. I have never read a Science fiction romance in a long time. This is the first book of the Aliensville series. I fell in love with these characters right from the start. I could not put this book down until the end. I can’t wait to read the next book to this amazing series.

Lost Hollow is the first book in the Alienville Series by Donna S. Frelick. I was so happy when I saw that Ms. Frelick had a new book coming out, and that it was the first book in a brand-new series. Woot!!! I have loved all her other books, so I really couldn’t wait to see what this new book had in store for us. This is an action-packed, sci-fi romantic suspense with plenty of intrigue, danger, adventure, mystery, secrets, drama, fate, politics, feuds/rivalry, race wars, discovery, a quest for the truth, small town setting, intensity, gripping developments, depth, rich detailing, vivid descriptions, wonderful world-building, multi-layers, community/clan/species dynamics, twists, violence, dynamic characters, agendas, tension, and emotion. Moira McCann arrives in the small sleepy-hollow town of Allenville, way up in the Smokey Mountains, on a quest to find her missing twin sister. Even though her sister is quite quirky, free-spirited, and can be a bit ditzy at times, there is something more to her ‘falling-off-the-radar’ this time. So, Moira arrives, determined to track her down. Right away, Moira feels the mysteriousness of the town and its inhabitants- there is something more going on and she won’t be put off or set aside. The local sheriff may be easy on the eye, but she feels he’s not telling her the whole truth. What is he hiding? Following not just Moira on her search for her sister, and the adventure that ensues- but we also get her twins perspective of the events- as well as the whole ‘alien’ aspect of the story, which was really fascinating, well thought-out, and well-written. It gave me a bit of a sci-fi ‘Deliverance’ vibe, which I loved. I can wait for book two, to discover what happens with to Claire, and see where we go from here. This was the first book I had read by this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I skipped the first book inadvertently but didn’t feel lost whatsoever by starting on this one. I will say that since finishing this story, I have already picked up the first book because I needed more! The cover of this book stole my attention immediately. It’s simple but sophisticated and intriguing which fits the storyline perfectly. I loved that it is told by multiple points of view as it helps me get a feel for each of the characters and get inside their heads a little more. I read this in one day because I couldn’t put it down, and it felt like it went by incredibly quick. Although I don’t feel like anything is missing from this story, I would love to have had even more to read since the writing style of this author is absolutely amazing! What is going to be next in this series? I can’t wait to find out. I highly recommend picking this up before the newest one hits and you have to catch up!

Red is the first book I’ve read by MK Harkins. I was immediately drawn to the cover and its vibrant colors and soon intrigued by the fairytale retelling synopsis. I was not sure what to expect with a book loosely based on riding hood but I was pleasantly surprised. I feel like authors get “extra points” in my book when they include a playlist so this addition excited me right away. I loved the wit the characters had and found myself smiling at some of their thoughts. The book flowed really well and kept me interested. The imagery and vivid storytelling made me feel like I could pick up the vibrations and auras as well as the characters. I will have to go back and read book one!

Honestly, this was a really cute romance read. It sucked me in right from the get go, and I absolutely loved reading it. I wasn’t the biggest fan of switching POVs- and by switching POVs, I mean the author switched from third to first person, depending on the character in the book. I can understand switching POVs occasionally, but in this instance it just really wasn’t for me. However, I did really like the plot and everything else; so if you’re looking for something sweet and short, I’d give this a try!

I read this book without reading book one and I feel that it’s okay because the characters from book one are in this a lot but they’re you’re typical side characters so the story doesn’t feel confusing. I like the modern take on little red riding hood, Lilly is very trusting and sometimes is helpful like when she met Ashley and other times it’s dangerous. I wish there was more involvement with the fairy godmothers, I like that they’re able to watch what’s going on and get these vibrations when something bad is going to happen, and I know its against their rules, but I wish they could have been able to interact with the characters more. I enjoyed the parts with Harry and Ashley, they have me wanting to go back and to read book one. Honestly, I felt George was full of himself but I am glad that he and Lilly get there happily ever after. I thought the friendship with Ashley and Lilly was very sweet and I hope we get to see more of them in the next book.

‘Red’ is the second book in the ‘Modern Fairy Tale Romance Series’ and technically can be read as a stand alone but you get introduced to the characters in the first book ‘Ashes’. I would suggest reading the first book before this one to better understand the characters.
George is still wallowing in his depression after the disappearance of his girlfriend Laura. She left without even a goodbye so he never got the proper closure to move on. George decided to never get serious with a girl again to protect himself from heartbreak.
Lily is a sweet and sheltered girl who grew up being bullied. This causes her to fear rejection and to have low self esteem. When she meets George, sparks fly instantly and she finds herself attracted to him. Their mutual friend, Ashley, warns Lily that George may not be emotionally available yet. When he asks her out, she is quick to say yes. The date went great and Lily thought everything was perfect until George ghosts her.
Merilee, a fairy godmother in training, has to try to get Lily and George together within a certain time line or she will be demoted. She made this mess so now she has to fix it. Paired with an arrogant but sexy guardian Angel, she has her work cut out for her.
I really enjoyed the first book in the series so I was excited to read this one. I love Lily’s character. She is so sweet, awkward yet oddly charming. George comes across as a selfish play boy but he actually has a lot of depth. I cheered them on from the page they were introduced to each other.

Red is the first book I’ve read by MK Harkins. I did not read the first book, so you can definitely read this as a stand alone and not be lost. I now want to go back and read the first, as well as any other book I can get by this author! The characters and world building were spot on. I was intrigued by the cover and the overview, but completely entranced the entire book! My emotions were on the same rollercoaster as the characters! I loved them all but my favorites were Merilee and Zuriel! I hope there is more to come with them. If you enjoy modern twists on fairy tales, run and grab this book!

This is a new to me author and so glad I took a chance. This story was a pretty good love story. This book kept me reading and turning page after page. The main characters of Anne and Declan are victims of insta-love. One look and they were hooked. However, because of their beliefs (he’s her best friend’s older brother) and the situation (he is rising up through Dad’s company and keeping the family name at the top) neither actually believe their feelings. I loved the way things worked out though. Such a twist! Looking forward to more from this author.
Oh my goodness, I loved this book. First off, I enjoy this author’s writing. Her style is engaging and easy to find yourself engaged with. Once I started reading it, I was hooked. It’s pretty fast-paced, exciting, and full of drama. I love romantic suspense. toss in a little scifi and that just gives it a new level of thrill. I found the characters to be quite interesting and full of unique personality. The story premise was excellent. I found the book quite enjoyable.

Red is a fun and short read. It is the second in the story so it is after Ashes (Cinderella retelling) and does continue on with parts of that story was well. It can be read as a stand alone still. George is Harry’s best friend and going thru a rough patch in his life due to his love disappearing at the prom (who was really a fairy godmother playing the part of Georges true love). Merilee now must fix her muddling with the help of an annoying guardian angel who is full of himself and get George and Lily together as they are supposed to be. Lilly is a broke college student that needed a place to stay and ended up finding her best friend and running into her true love. I found this retelling of Little Red Riding Hood to be fun and engaging with a nice modern twist. I can’t wait to read more modern-day fairy tales by M.K. Harkins!

This is the second book in the Modern Day Fairy Tale Series. These are a great mixture of a retelling of a classic fairy tale with a modern twist. This story is full of paranormal elements, magic, danger, and a sense of fate. This story could be read as a standalone as the main characters are different to the first book, however some of the characters from the first book do reappear. Me personally I would recommend reading them in order as it really enhances this magical series.
This is George and Lilly’s story. George is still trying to get over his heartbreak and he struggles to come to terms with losing Laura (read the first book) he is positive there is no one else and that she was his soul mate. However Laura wasn’t all she appeared. Lilly is finally on her own making her way in life and when she meets George sparks definately fly. But will George be able to recognise that Lily could be his soul mate before it’s too late? With 2 fairy-godmothers in training trying to help and a grumpy guardian angel trying to clear up the mess from the first story there is a lot going on. And when someone from George’s past returns with evil intentions will anyone be safe? These stories are amazing reads and a beautiful retelling of a classic tale with a twist that makes them relevant today.

Red is the second installment in the Modern-Day Fairy Tales series by M.K. Harkins. I was unaware of the first book when I picked this up, so I would definitely recommend reading Ashes first as it’s a bit confusing if you haven’t. This book has a little bit of everything fairytale related, with magic, adventures, and of course Fairy god mothers. I absolutely adore any sort of Fairy Tale spin offs, interpretations, etc., and this was no exception. The characters are right there with you, you’re put right into the settings, and it’s just an overall great book. I will definitely be looking into Ashes!

This story was cute! It was loosely based on red riding hood and I like the supernatural elements thrown in. I thought the writing was good and I enjoyed the mc’s. There are second chance/soulmates tropes in this one and I am a sucker for those! I am glad I picked this one up and I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future! Happy Reading!

This was a very quick read. I always enjoy books by this author. Her stories are always very unique but not too much where you’re just confused by the randomness. It doesn’t matter if it is a short book or a longer one, you are always brought into the world you are reading about. Her talent for describing people and the world and her writing style makes it so easy to just get lost in the book each and every time. This is another story where I was lost in the story and finished the book in one sitting. Her books often leave me exhausted the next night because I stayed up too late reading them. I just had to know more. I love the relationship building between the two main characters. It definitely left me wanting more.

I loved this book. It has everything in it. There is tragedy, heartbreak, drama, conflict, forgiveness and of course romance. Laramee is determined and head strong. She wants nothing more than to save the family ranch. Jamie just wants to get away and appraising the Stone Ranch is the perfect excuse. I love the dynamic between Laramee and Jamie, but I also love the dynamic that plays out within the families.

From the moment I read the description of this book I was intrigued enough to know I would have to find out what was going on, and what happened to Claire! I thought the book was a brilliant story. It was exciting, fast paced and I loved the sci-fi edge angle. I was pulled into the story with ease and I connected with it straight away. I really enjoyed reading about the characters too. There was so much going on that I wanted to know about and I thought the characters navigated everything really well. Their connection was believable too, which made it even more enjoyable to read. As this first book in a new series, this has made me excited to read the rest.

Lily is a young woman with some very overbearing parents, especially her mother and because of this, she was homeschooled and only entered the world of public education in her senior years, and nothing prepared her for the bullying and harassment that she experienced; however she absolutely loves animals and decides that she wants to escape the nest and go to college. George is a young man who has dreamed of attending vet school from a young age, however, when he gets there, all he feels is pain, pain from the disappearance of the love of his life with no word of where she went or why and this has led him into a deep depression that he is struggling to get out of.
This has led to him spiralling out of control and his roommate dragging him kicking and screaming out of it with the treat that he will lose out on his chance to fulfil his dream, so he slowly gets his act together and catch up with life outside of his ex. Meanwhile, Lily is in a desperate situation and does not want to admit she was wrong to her parents, however, when a solution presents itself to her, she throws caution to the wind and takes a chance on a stranger.
When fate intervenes and Lily and George meet for the first time, there is an instant attraction and feeling of comfort with each other that neither can deny, however, George runs away and rejects Lily, much to her embarrassment and annoyance, this all changes when the past rears its ugly head and Lily is caught in the middle. While all of this is going on, in the background there are a Fairy Godmother without much experience and a grumpy Guardian Angel hovering and trying to aid fate, however, nothing moves smoothly on that end either, so while they decide whether to interfere, or stand by and just watch, will George be able to save Lily and their future, or will the past extinguish the fires of fate? This is a twist on a well-loved fairytale in a modern setting that will hook you in and keep you guessing throughout.
