Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Beverly Finnie

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finding Starlight is so much more than I could’ve ever imagined. It’s such a wonderful story of friendship, love, and family. Of course there’s definitely a dark cloud of drama/suspense woven in. One can definitely feel it too! Especially with the way it started, everything seemed perfect. I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it definitely did. It just wasn’t who I was expecting.
Ellawyn ran away from everything she knew in Maine, family, friends, and an abusive ex-boyfriend. She’s become a recluse now living in Quimby Grove PA. Setting up camp on a daily basis in Starlight Books, with the shop’s owner Benji. Starting to live life again, while helping Benji through a tough time, someone starts to target her. Which very well could force her back into her shell.
Beckett being called away from Boston to come back home, he had no idea what he was walking into. When he found out his grandfather was sick he dropped everything to do what he could to help out. Mesmerized by this beautiful woman who seems to have set-up shop in Starlight books, he quickly learns she means a great deal to Pops(Benji.)
Between the two of them the author weaves a web, that if someone would pull the strings it would put these two closer together in the center. Navigating through Benji’s illness is no walk in the park. And the way the author puts the reader through the emotions you feel it’s your loved one and not a story you’re reading.
Getting emotionally invested is not an option. It’s going to happen and even more so if you’ve lived through any of the different narratives presented throughout. I speak from experience. So now it’s your turn, to live vicariously through the characters to see which narrative hits home the most while enjoying a fabulous story.

Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan Series Book 1) by Kate MacInnis – Review by Sheri Schrader

Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan #1)Distant Heart Sounds by Kate MacInnis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Distant Heart Sounds is the first book in the Nurse Morgan Series. This is an excellent find if you are looking for a fun, paranormal romantic mystery. Nurse Morgan is a fun and understandable character. She is returning to work from a near-death experience and now sees things that no one else does. Her new psychic abilities have her questioning her sanity and causing her alarm, especially after she returns to work at the hospital. I liked her character and the other characters as well. The story is well-written and enjoyable. In addition, I enjoyed the mix of several genres. Though there were resolutions to the story, I’m excited to see where this story goes. I look forward to reading more from this author and seeing more of Nurse Morgan in the future.

Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan #1)Distant Heart Sounds by Kate MacInnis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Distant Heart Sounds is the first book in the Nurse Morgan Series. It was my first by this author and I really enjoyed it. I will be reading book 2 soon! The book follows Morgan, an Emergency Dept nurse, shortly after returning to work after a near death experience. She soon discovers she has new abilities- seeing auras around people, seeing the future and past events, and communicating with ghosts. The ghosts that live in her house are hilarious, and a good addition to the story. I like how all the characters personalities are a bit different, and complement each other. Morgan has great friends, and it was fun to see her abilities develop as the book progressed. I was hoping for more development into Dr Lightfoot’s character, so I hope book 2 builds on him more. I recommend this book- while paranormal in nature, it isn’t creepy. Its lighthearted and funny at times.

Devil’s Breath by Lang Johnson – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Devil's BreathDevil’s Breath by Lang Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil’s Breath is a suspense romance about an assassin named Sera and her mark, Cassius. Sera grew up poor with an abusive father after her mother died from drugs. Sera’s biggest weakness is satisfying her father, no matter what. Her father and a couple of associates want to invest in a “gems” company. This “gems” company is actually a way to sell drugs under the radar due to Sera’s brilliant chemistry mind. However, while she is a millionaire, they need a backer, that is where Cassius comes in. Cassius is one of the associate’s brothers, who hates him and wants revenge on the family he was disowned from. What they all didn’t count on was Cassius’ crazy smart brain and the fact that Sera’s tough exterior could have a flaw. Will Cassius figure out the plan before he loses his life? Will Sera’s tough exterior faulter for anyone besides her father? A game of cat and mouse is a good one!
I enjoyed this book a lot. It always helps when you have a badass female lead who is an assassin with daddy issues. You get to see her transformation throughout the book and give you hope that people might be able to do and be better. However, her daddy issues did make me want to slap her at times. The two characters together had great banter, which I thrive off of. However, Cassius, oh my, he was my favorite character in the book. He was adventurous, charming, down to earth, and understanding. How he treated the people around him, especially Sera, just made you melt! He was a broken but honest, lovable, really good man that you just couldn’t help falling in love with.

This is a great box set that I enjoyed each book. This is the Dark Sparrow collection of six books. They are by an author that has great writing skills and her attention to details make her stories pop. This is a collection of six men who are related as brothers and bound by blood. Add six females who have secrets of their own. Plus a dangerous father who is out to get everyone. This set is full of romance and suspense. They are each unique but link each book to the next. They are fast paced, engaging and hard to put down. This is a set you don’t want to miss out on. This is a great set that won’t let you down and will tick all your boxes. I have just one word for this book…AMAZING! While I have read a few amazing stories from this author, I couldn’t avoid this one even if I wanted to. The cover is just simply breathtaking and the synopsis was intriguing. Upon starting the story you quickly discover great character development, a wonderful though slightly dark fantasy story, and of course brilliant word building. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unlikely to Fit is the 2nd book in the Parker Lake series. While the characters do overlap, the book could be enjoyed without reading the series in order. This book focuses on Breckin and Griff. They have known each other forever, but didn’t really KNOW each other. They share common friends and were sort of pushed together, and both resisted at first. Then they slowed discovered their feelings for each other, which were made stronger by their broken hearts. They are such a fun couple, and I was glad their story had a happily ever after. I look forward to the next book, because I want to know what happens for them. The ending was perfect. Highly recommend this book, series and author.

Unlikely to Tell (A Parker Lake Novel Book 4)Unlikely to Tell by Olivia Sherwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is book four of the series. While it can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading the whole series. Not only is it great but you meet a lot of characters throughout the series as the series takes place in the same town of Parker, Oklahoma.

Karen lives her ideal life in Parker. Simple, quiet, uncomplicated. Just the way she likes it. She is very much unavailable. She has no desire to get close to anyone. Brody is coming home basically with his tail between his legs. He’s not the same kid he was before he left but boy does he feel like it. His job is in jeopardy and he has no clue what comes next. Karen and Brody meet and everything they’ve known seems to flip. Karen, after years alone, can’t fight what she feels and actually starts to confide in Brody. Brody, after “escaping” Parker has to decide if maybe New York isn’t where he’s meant to be.

I loved this book. The entire series has been great and this book was a great addition! I couldn’t put it down! The characters are always so relatable and it’s so well written you feel like you walk right into Parker as you’re reading. I definitely recommend!

This was an interesting take on zodiac mythology and something unique that was interesting to learn about. I enjoyed how easily and quickly the story flowed throughout the book. I was also enchanted by the idea of merfolk and how they live – along with their system of life and culture. Each voice of the characters was well defined and multi-dimensional in a way that really helps the reader understand them and their actions. Told from the perspective of the four main characters, this story was short but ultimately satisfying to read.

Since this series can be read as stand alones , I started on book 4. Naturally I continued the order 5, and 6. However I want more! I was hesitant to start the begging book well because these other books kind of spoiled some things for me if you would. However, boy was I wrong! There were MANY surprises for me!! I never felt bored once. I always love that we get both sides to the story so we can be inside both characters minds. We get to see Lil being a strong & fierce woman who overcomes many obstacles. We see Max doing whatever it takes to protect & care for those he loves. (Literally anything) . This book was action packed, suspenseful, feisty, heart warming. I loved going back to the beginning and reading about where it it all started, and about the OG’s of the gang!

This is a fairly new author to me and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what other books she has written. The characters are developed and easy to fall in love with and the storyline flowed so well I felt like I was apart of the story. What you do if you were asked to choose between love and your family? Could you choose one or possibly fight for both? This is a fast paced story that will definitely have your emotions going all over the place and these two have great chemistry between them. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author soon.

Cassius is a little different from most people, brain scans will confirm. But what’s wrong with a little different? He likes to walk on the wild side of life (thanks to that brain of his). Is Sera more then he can handle? Cassius just wants to save his parents from having to deal with his brother’s antics anymore. BUT he wasn’t born yesterday.

What would you do with 15 million? What’s the price to pay? Is it worth it?

Sera came from the wrong side of the tracks growing up, BUT now, years later she is a successful rich “business” woman. Her loyalty to her Tay is unending, strong, and unbreakable. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for him.

What’s that saying…. “Don’t mix business with pleasure.” ESPESUALLY when you’re their assassin.
Money, fortune, drugs, lust, love…. What do they all have in common? DEATH, or so you would think.

Can one step away from their family? Start a new life? Or is blood thicker than water?

The darkest one yet! Hence the title but can em & steanfo find their way out of the darkness ? Together they can, once they put all the bs aside. I really like how supportive Stefano is. Also how strong Em is, she might be the strongest woman in this whole series! To endure what she does, and still come out fighting is amazing! This book left me speechless at times, we finally get the closure we need about some pesky rodents who shall not be named. Overall I enjoyed the realness to this one. It’s kind of a overcoming trauma, healing, action packed love story.! Can’t wait for more!!

What a cute romance to start out the summer! This was the first book I read by the author, I am truly impressed by her writing style and her ability to create relatable and lovable characters.

As many women before her, Bree has been hurt by many men with only one intention: sex. The boundaries she sets for herself are ones I feel many of us have set in the past to keep us from further heartache. She meets Nate and is quick to decide not to date him due to the fact that he is too similar to the other men she has sworn to stay away from. She then meets Steven, who appears to have everything she is looking for, but is he really the one she should be pursuing? Only reading will let you find out! Definitely can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Bree, like many women, has had her share of crappy dates & boyfriends. And like some of us, she has decided that she needs to find new ways to meet people. Kudos to Bree for starting to play tennis, trying new foods, and going with the flow.

I can totally relate to Bree, dating is hard at any age but after college I think it’s even harder. You don’t quite have your tribe (maybe they moved away or you were the one to move) and feel somewhat lost. I really thought Bree was kind of smart to have specific things to look for in a man. But at the same time, you can’t judge one person by noticing the small little things others did in the past and you certainly need to see the big picture!

As Bree is navigating her dating world, two men seem to be good possibilities: Nate and Steve
Which one will she pick? Is there anything she’s missed along the way? Will she finally figure out the right guy for her?

Collateral Damage: A Mafia Romance (Mafia Elite Book 6)Collateral Damage: A Mafia Romance by Amy McKinley

Collateral damage picks up shortly after Ruthless Heir ends. This is the long-awaited book that is Trey’s story. Trey always comes across as much softer than his family but in this book you discover that he is every bit as protective as the rest. He finds himself in an unpredictable scenario and watching him come to terms with the fact that the love he lost may not have been a once in a lifetime love makes this story pull the heartstrings more than any other book in the series. Enter Hailey who it seems has never really known true love and you find yourself desperately waiting to see what will happen. With her in danger Trey is forced to make hard decisions not just about how he currently spends his time but the future. You get to see all of the sides of Trey in this book and it makes you realize looking back on the rest that this silent hero is the backbone in more ways than one. I loved his interaction with Sandy and his siblings. I once again found myself rooting for this couple and that they would find happiness like the couples before them. I think the author does a tremendous job of giving you so much backstory and insight to each character while still holding back a little. If you enjoy a true romantic suspense with lots of action, some romance, and some humor thrown in then you will absolutely love this entire series and I highly recommend picking it up today.

Unlikely to Tell (A Parker Lake Novel Book 4)

I knew I missed my friends in Parker, but didn’t realize how much until I cracked open the book and started reading. Felt like coming home and I squealed in happiness when Kelda made her first appearance.

I have loved each of the couples individually and together but Kelda is by far my most favorite character and old lady I have ever read about and I hope I’m a quarter as amazing, flamboyant and not caring what the world thinks as she is. She is my old lady goal.

We finally get to know Karen and she didn’t disappoint me in the least. I hate how she isolated herself but so happy she met Breckin and was dragged into their group kicking g and screaming.

Brody, oh Brody.  I hate he felt like Parker was the place to avoid at all costs and lost all of that valuable time with his Dad and Sister, but oh so happy he found his way home.

I love everything about this book, series and author.  Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

Lets just say the first face-to-face didn’t go well and Karen’s opinion of Brody isn’t the greatest. As time moves forward things do change between them and I really enjoyed reading their journey.

This is the 4th book in the Parker Lake series and it is just as captivating as the others. These books can be read as a standalone but if they are read in order it gives you more of a complete idea of the characters and their connections to each other in the small town of Parker Lake.

As with the other books this is a fun contemporary love story. However love isn’t always easier and both Karen and Brody have secrets that they need to work through.
Brody returns to Parker Lake after something happened in his big New York Life. Reluctant to return he comes home hoping to refind the man he used to be. What he doesn’t anticipate finding is love in the form of his sister’s friend Karen.
Karen is a school teacher in Parker Lake. After issues in her past made she found herself in this little town which suited her because all she wanted to do was fade into the background and life a peaceful life. And then she meet Brody and he changes her life and turns her upside down.
Can a chance meeting in a supermarket be the start of something special and magical for them both? Will Karen’s feelings for Brody as being an arrogant show off stop her opening her heart to him? Why is it that Brody can’t get this quiet woman from a country town out of his mind? And can they both reveal their pasts to build a future together?
