A Heart So Savage (The Savage Duet Book 2) by April Moran – Review by Jessica Stone

I’m not going to lie I am so happy that I read the first book to this one basically back to back, I don’t know how long I could have waited to find out what was going to happen to King and Ava.

This book picks up right after the events of the first book, so if you haven’t read book one, stop what you’re doing go back and read it first and then come back, honestly you’d miss out on a ton of you tried to read this.

So I’m super into the forced proximity, reluctant relationship these two have. King is DEEP in his feelings for Ava and after everything they’ve been through it’s only fitting that Ava spend the majority of this book questioning basically her sanity for feeling the things she does for him, and loving the way he makes her feel. And let’s be honest, we all want to feel like kinky sex goddesses sometimes. King and his resolute feelings for Ava break me a bit, he’s gone through a lot, and though we knew he was “intrigued” with Ava, fascinated I guess to see him fall into love with Ava was heart melting.

I love the twists this book throws in with its characters, some from the first book and some new players! But please definitely watch out for trigger warnings going into this book, it gets down to the nitty gritty, lays it all bare but I think that’s what makes the story so intriguing. The author isn’t afraid to tell the story, and sometimes things can get ugly, but that makes the resolutions so much sweeter.

UHMM! Oliver what??? If you’ve read the first book, as you should, you’ll know what I’m talking about! I was blown away by that wildcard! Super hope we get a book about him and his redemption! I would love to read more like this from the author, dark mafia romance done right. Secretly hoping I can find my own Kingston one day. 🤞🏻

I enjoyed Lannahi as the main character. She is a strong and fair ruler but questions her actions. The citizens of her kingdom don’t automatically accept her, and she captures the old queen as her slave. There are a lot of names in this book and sometimes I was confused with the number of side characters. The world building was good, but I feel like it could have used more details to bring it to life. The story is original, and the ending was unexpected.

I did things kind of backwards and read the entire Hidden Valley Elite Series before I read Savage Start, the prequel to them all. However, knowing the rest of the stories did not take away from the excitement and thrills of this one. Isla Vaughn starts this series off right with the introduction of some amazing characters. From the first page, the characters come to life; their struggles, emotions, and passion capture the reader’s attention. The world building of Isla Vaughn is spectacular! The reader is transported through the pages into the world of the Elite; the California coastline, beachside mansions, and parties at those mansions all come to life with her words! This book definitely gave me more insight into the timeline and background of Cole and Riley’s tumultuous relationship. Overall, another great read by Isla Vaughn! I can’t recommend this series enough, but definitely start with this one before moving on to the rest.

I’ve not read book one, Savage Lies, before reading the prequel, being 30 and reading a New Adult about teenagers doesn’t appeal to me but I really liked this prequel and it has me interested in book one. I hope the series explains more of Riley’s uncle, it just seems off to me that this guy bought her a “race car” but can’t help them. This is a nice short background about the characters that I’m sure everyone who has already read Savage Lies will love. I seen that Cole is the bully in book one and I’m not gonna lie, it makes me sad because I already really like him, not sure how I’m going to handle him being mean but I do look forward to how it all plays out.

I had read the duet first before finding out that Riley and Cole had a prequel story. Once I found out I snatched it up! I loved seeing what made them, them. Reading this book made everything make so much more sense. The big reason why Riley is the way she is, and why Cole the way he is. Just like the other two, the back and forth in this book was really well done and balanced. The set up for the first book was fantastic! It really made me think and wanting more. Isla does such a good job setting up her worlds that I fell like I’m in the middle of them.

Definitely not a standalone as it ends with a big cliffhanger to lead you into Savage Lies. This gets us ready for Riley and Coles story. Very well written, can’t wait to keep reading this series.

A great way to start off a series. Leaves you wanting more and more. A book complete with teenagers, hot guys, parties and family drama. A prequel story to Savage Lies and it’s a steamy one. Your introduced to the 3 main characters right at the beginning of the story. Brothers Cole and Damon and the new girl who just has moved into town named Riley. Where Riley goes it seems that trouble always follows as her and her mom are always on the run. Cole and Damon have so much going on family wise that their lives are turned upside down. In this short prequel you will laugh, cry, scream and just keep turning the pages to find out what happens next.

I was looking for a fantasy that wasn’t part of an epic series to fit my current schedule and this seemed the perfect fit. This had everything I was hoping for; I was not disappointed in the adventure the danger, romance and the creatures within.

I loved the idea for this plot, I thought it was quite unique. There was a lot of detail, especially in the world building which was great and helped create the feeling that I was stepping into the world.
My only criticism in this regard, would be that there is so much detail in all areas except the bit that seems the most crucial to the plot – the Game. I was able to follow along, but I feel it would have made even more sense with more information and background on this.

I was 100% invested in Lannahi and her journey to coming into her own. I really enjoyed her strength and how she dealt with the betrayal she had experienced. I was rooting for her start to finish.

This was the first book that I’ve read by the author and I will definitely be looking out for more!

I accidentally read books 2 and 3 first before realizing I hadn’t read book 1. But I felt like I wasn’t missing out while reading the other books. First things first, what really caught my eye was how aesthetically appealing the covers were, I absolutely love them. Sasha and Jay’s story was oh my goodness. I never really liked Sasha when I saw her in the authors other books, but now reading her story everything makes a lot more sense. There were still times where I wanted to slap the snot out of her, but she started to grow on me. However, in the second book Matt and Marenah I almost didn’t finish because first I felt like Marenah laid the mafia princess schtick on THICK, and it was starting to get on my nerves. But I’m glad I kept reading because the realization that she was just using it as a layer of defense made a whole lot of sense. Matt was such a great guy. Both males were absolutely fantastic and I giggled a little at the way they made me feel just reading about them!

Isla Vaughn has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her Hidden Valley Elite series is by far one of the best Bully Romance series of books I’ve ever read, and this prequel is no different. Get to know some back story into characters you already know and love. This story had me in tears, angry, and just all over the place. You get the a beginning peek into the start of Riley and Cole in this emotional prequel. I absolutely cannot recommend this series or this author to enough people. She is amazingly talented and I am so enthralled with her world.

Praise for Lena Abram’s, Song Of Earth and Claws, for bringing a unique twist to a classic genre! I absolutely loved this book and the immense journey that it took me on! The characters all felt so real! I got so angry at some of them like they were right beside me. Lannahi was such a relatable character with her intense motives and the feelings brought about by her family. There were times where if I were her I would be so tempted to give up, but she never did and I found that inspiring. Abram’s created an immaculate world with so much detail, her kingdoms, her politics, her games, her twists and turns, all absolutely stunning. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store! My first favorite book for the year!

The stories of each character are very intriguing and pull you in from the beginning. Throughout the prequel, I saw the story unfold like a movie playing in my head. This prequel gives you an insight into who the players are and why they are the way they are for future reads. In this edition, you will meet Cole and Riley. Riley is a girl who is always on the run with her mother. They have created a life of conning people and moving to the next town apparently to escape her father finding them. They end up in Santa Monica with a new aspect of going straight and staying, but Riley will believe it when she sees it. While walking, she stumbles upon a house party where she sneaks into and tries to steal something. She gets caught by Cole and ends up running out of the house after he kisses her. Cole is an elite teenager who plans on football giving him his future. He and his brother, while privileged, are dealing with their parents who have a loveless marriage. As the story goes on, Cole, who is a momma’s boy, is always consoling his distraught mother. In the book, the two main characters never run back into each other, but the circumstances of each of their stories seem to be foreshadowing how their relationship will go once they do.

I am a fan of a bully romance. You are not going to get the bully aspect in this short story, but it sets the scene for why (I believe it will be Cole) becomes a bully. I enjoy both characters with the little we learned about them. I also feel sympathy for Cole and the situation at home. I am excited to see what aspires between the two and how the series will progress.

Song of Earth and Claws is a fae fantasy romance with magic, danger, betrayal, kingdoms and powers. I truly enjoy fantasy, this was overall a good story, but a bit complex and there is a lot of information to try and navigate. The author did a good job providing appendix for glossary of terms, character (as there were many) and kingdoms that was helpful to me, but there were parts of the story that I feel like I was missing some valuable pieces. Overall, this was a good story and I really liked Lannahi as a character as she was underestimated many times.

Lannahi is betrayed by a man she thought she once loved…and this betrayal also would put her family in harms way, his plan is devious. Lannahi is now under Nihhal’s curse and she cannot speak of his deceit and betrayal or there is an ultimate price. As Lannahi finds courage to challenge a Queen for power of her land…….will Lannahi find she is as strong as she think she is…or will this not be as simple as she believes…will she be able to trust anyone or is she in this alone..

This is a good story, overall, it does take time to absorb…I am looking forward to seeing what this author brings next.

This is a short introduction to a longer series. I was immediately drawn in and downloaded the next book of the series as soon as I finished this one. One spicy kiss was all it took for these two to keep thinking about things. I like how it gives the back story and point of view on both of them. It’s only two characters, so it’s not annoying or difficult to keep up with. I can’t wait to see what is next for Riley and Cole!

What a perfect way to get me hooked on a new series!! Riley and her mom are constantly moving towns and doing cons. There’s definitely a past there I hope to learn more about. Cole comes from money, but definitely doesn’t have an easy life. He’s had to be the adult of his family. The book ends in a cliffhanger that has me ready to buy the next book already! I’m getting vibes like Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill. If you liked shows like that, I think you’ll really enjoy this book and series too I’m sure.

Book one is about Jay and Sasha. Jay is a bodyguard. Sasha is a mafia princess. Jay and Sasha meet at a club, where he vows to do what ever it takes to protect sasha. She struggles thinking someone could ever want someone who is so broken. Jay calls sasha his little angel and will do what ever it takes to keep her safe from anyone and everyone. There is many spicy takes, such as a dom/sub roles going on. 10/10.

I’ll tell you the book cover is what drew me into this book and then of course I read synopsis. I was leary because this type of fantasy world building can be hard to get into but Lena Abram’s writing style will suck you in once you find your spot. A great story full of colorful characters and wonderful storyline. It will take you into a fantasy world unlike any other. I am excited to read other stories by Lena.

I really enjoyed the way the main character is not what she seems and really starts to bring people to her side without them even realizing it. I wish that the world building had gone a little more in-depth, but I wasn’t disappointed. I’m hoping to see more in this world.

The Prequel to the Hidden Valley Elite Series will snag your attention from the first page. The drama of the story pulls you right in, keeping you curious about whats next. I also loved Riley and Cole, both are such captivating characters right off the bat. I just wish it was a little bit longer! I definitely enjoyed this quick read, and plan on delving further into this series!

What a wonderfully complex story. It has a slow start but once it gets going I was completely hooked. This is a fantasy story with romance and a lot of suspense. I was held captive while reading and struggled to put this one down. The world building is phenomenally done. The different layers of fae and how they all interact was superbly done. I was excited to meet new and figure out their powers and how they are involved. How everything someone says or does has an underlying reason or hidden agenda would drive me crazy because the characters have to always be on their toes and thinking of different angles. Tiring for me but great for the story.

The female MC impressed me immensely. She is portrayed as meek and a follower but once she makes her move she is the complete opposite. Her growth is huge! Watching her change and learn for every situation always left me wondering what can’t she do. The answer is Nothing! She has learned from her family more than she ever thought she did.

I hope there is more to come in this series.

Lannahi knows the fate of her fathers kingdom is in danger. Being Sarkal’s youngest child without powers, leaves her open to the other kingdoms.
Nihhal is experienced and has powers, he has been all over the kingdoms plotting revenge against her and her family. When he sees her alone at the Moon Games, he makes his ghastly move. He let’s her live but he has cursed her to be his slave. Little did he know Lannahi isn’t as weak as he thought. She has her own plan to dominate and run from him to never be made a slave.
Song of Earth and Claws by Lena Abram is a beautifully written fantasy romance. Full of betrayal and captivating combat, both magical and physical. It is full of details and amazing character and world building. The author thought of it all, she even has the rules of the lands and a glossary in the back as helpful tools.

Song of Earth and Claws (Faelands Series) by Lena Abram. This is a fae, romance and it is loaded with information that you need to know but kind of bogged down the first little bit of the book. You have to really pay attention to keep all the players in line and where they fit into the story. The romance part focuses on Lannahi and Ashared. Lannahi is in the game to become the leader and the games are a big part of the story. Lannahi doesn’t want to be leader but for the sake of her family she has to try and being betrayed by someone she though was her friend is heartbreaking. Lannahi is afraid she has taken on more than she can handle but she also knows if she doesn’t at least try she and her family will be destroyed. There are all kinds of danger around every corner including, fantasy, romance, fae, shape shifters and mystery, Its a deep book but if you stick with it you will enjoy the games and seeing if Lannahi can save herself and her people and marry the love of her life which is all she really wants!

Deliciously dark & sinfully twisted ! Delightfully depraved ! Enjoyin this book so thoroughly was it’s own guilty pleasure . Honestly everything King was doing to Ava was working for me too lol even though I felt the same indignance at his outrageous audacity , it was workiiiiing for meeeee ! I LOVE their ending & that the villainry stayed strong . The artful exploration of their humanity behind their desires is a true gem . I also very quickly & suddenly discovered that I might have a THING for Oliver & the word darling dripping from his viciously delicious lips . my fingers are very tightly crossed hoping he gets his own story lol. Loved this duet & I will happily devour anything this author creates .

This is a quick-paced prequel in the Hidden Valley series. The book is a dual-POV book, with alternating chapters featuring Riley and Cole. The two storylines are both interesting and intriguing and overlap in a unique way. Both characters have their own struggles to deal with and the book leaves you wondering how their connection, while brief, will continue into the next book in the series. This quick read was written well and definitely leads to wanting to find out more from the series. Will Riley have to pick up and move again? Will Cole be able to get through the tragedy that he faces at the end of the book and can he ever forgive his dad’s behavior? These are just some of the questions that you will be left wondering at the end of this book. Onto the next book to hopefully find out these answers and more.
