Askew Ever AfterAskew Ever After by Aubrey Wynne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great collection of romance stories by talented authors.

My favourite is Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne. This is a beautiful story about finding love in a unlikely place. And how if you can be brave enough to open yourself to love you could be so happy.

Joss has had a lot of heartbreak in her life. With the loss of her mother and her ex partner cheating on her the last thing she wants is another relationship.

Ben has always been a happy go lucky guy. He’s never been one for relationships and woman flock to him. However that all changes when he meets Joss. He feels an instant connection with her but she rejects him at every turn. Can he prove to her he isn’t just after a bit of fun? Can Joss see beyond his image to the man inside? Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Kendra Aubry

Twisted SecretsTwisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“A nice change of pace from the cliché grocery store romance novels.”

Twisted Secrets is a fantastic blend of multiple genres, always keeping the reader guessing about what’s around the corner.

Xander Hale is a Navy SEAL on leave in Honolulu for questioning the actions of his new commanding officer, and when he stops by the local coffee shop, he meets grad student Riley Evans and instantly feels a connection with the woman. Riley is a photographer juggling the last few weeks of school, indecision as to what to do after graduation, and a complicated relationship with her professor. After ending their affair, Riley becomes the subject of her ex’s new and erratic, possessive side, and also the victim of several frightening events. Xander finds himself drawn to Riley and wants nothing more than to protect her while the police try to get to the bottom of things before she either ends up a suspect or a victim.
I could not put this book down! The way that McKinley kept the story from becoming too deeply entrenched in any one genre made it an exciting and refreshing read. The characters are multi-faceted and allow their individual histories to unfold in an organic fashion, rather than feeling contrived or forced. Unlike other mystery-type books, there was no anticipating which way the story would turn.
I cannot wait to read the next two books in the series!!

Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 1) by Amy McKinley was a great 5 star read
I was pulled in right from the beginning and couldn’t put it down.

Riley is a grad student and works at the local coffee shop. She isn’t looking to have a relationship since she already has a boyfriend. But the boyfriend hasn’t been acting very kind lately and she starts to question being with him.
Xander is a SEAL who finds himself on leave for a while to work out some personal things. He is working on renovations to keep himself busy. He meets Riley when he hears her voice, something about it pulls him in, when he comes face-to-face with Riley he feels an instant connection with her.

Things take a scary twist when Riley decides to move forward from the boyfriend. She is having nightmares and past memories start to haunt her. Can Riley help her get through her fear? Can they have a HEA?

Overall I really enjoyed this read. Riley and Xander were great, their chemistry came right off the pages. We get romance, suspense and so much more. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I enjoy reading books from this author, her writing pulls you right in. If you’re looking for a great read, 1-click and get started today.

By Amy McKinley

This book kept me turning pages needing to know what was going to happen next. I knew I had to have this series because this author never disappoints. This story is full of suspense, danger, romance, twists and turns. Xander and Riley have both just ended a relationship and can’t deny the attraction between them when they meet at the coffee shop Riley works at. While Xander is trying to keep Riley safe from someone causing trouble for her he is also dealing with his own stuff at work. Xander, who is a navy SEAL is on a forced leave after getting hurt on a mission he was on. Both Riley and Xander have things they need to work out. Will everything work out for these two? This is a must read if you want to find out. I highly recommend this book.

At Once (Adams Brothers Book 2) by Mindy McKinley is another wonderful book that I’ve read in one day. I can feel and understand Gabi’s reluctance to start a relationship after a divorce but I can also feel how much she is attracted to Mason. The Gabi & Mason combo is wonderful to read about as they have imagination and creativity that pulls them together as they work for a common goal in their businesses. The supporting characters again add to the book and expand how those around Gabi & Mason support them in their lives. It was definitely nice to see Dom & Lula show up in the this book.

Coyote Summer by Laura Koerber
Genre – magical realism coming of age
Page Count – 231 pages
Cover Designer – Tamira Thayne
The summer of magic happened forty years ago when Ben was just seventeen, but he’s never forgotten.
It started with rape and ended with a promise. In between things happened that Ben still didn’t understand. A man turned into a coyote, a girl danced in the air, Ben broke the law, and he fell in love for the first time.
And, when the summer ended, he made a promise that he now needs to keep.
Coyote Summer, a magical realism novel on a coming-of-age theme is about the aftermath of a sexual assault, but from the perspective of a male witness.
“The gist of the story is as listed above. But this doesn’t even touch on the beauty of the prose Koerber has a way with words, that is for sure. The imagery is staggeringly beautiful. The author paints with words. You can see, smell, taste, and hear as the lines leap off the page. … The prose, therefore, adds a beauty that transcends the darkness and reveals the light where it falls: in nature, in making right choices, in the good in the world, in healthy relationships, in standing up for the weak and powerless. ” Janelle Garret, Booknest

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At Last (Adams Brothers Book 1) by Mindy McKinley is a book that really hooked me in, it is so good I even shed some tears at one point while reading. Dom & Lula’s romance is exciting but also so real I could imagine it happening to me or my friends. They definitely has some adjusting and arguments as any couple would as they learn to trust each other and figure out hoe to be there for one another. The relationship’s progression felt pretty natural and real. The supporting characters made the book extra special, especially Lula’s grandmother. I read it within a day and I’m looking forward to learning more about Dom’s brothers in the next books in the series.

Twisted SecretsTwisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Twisted Secrets was an intense story of overcoming pasts and trying to move forward. It was my first novel by Amy McKinley, but certainly won’t be my last!

Riley Evans is a grad student at a university in Hawaii. In her last semester at school she finds out she is dating the very wrong guy. Through the slow breakdown of their relationship and ultimate end, she ends up meeting someone at the least expected time.

Navy SEAL Xander Hale was back from his last mission when he walked into a coffee shop and his world was turned upside down. He wouldn’t know how much for a short amount of time, but between his own dramas with his SEAL team and getting to know Riley, he is in for a roller coaster.

I really enjoyed the characters of this story! The twist at that the end was something else! Very wonderful novel!!

Night Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel) AUDIO BOOK by India Kells – Review by Sunday Barnaby

Night Justice by India Kells

Narrated by Dan Price

Five Stars

Night Justice is the first book in A Chicago Vigilante series by India Kells. India Kells is one of my go to authors and this book is my new favorite. This book had me listening long into the night and I couldn’t put it down until I listened to the end. It was well worth my lost sleep. This dark thriller is full of action, adventure, mystery, and romance. The characters were well defined and very relatable. Orla Karlsen is a reporter who goes undercover to save the city from a new drug that could destroy it. The Vigilante is a dark savior who is catching bad guys, when the two meet sparks fly. Both have issues with trust, which can lead to death or glory. I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book in this series.

Dan Price is a wonderful narrator, this is the second book I have  listened to that he has done. He really brought the characters to life. His voice is smooth and sexy sounding. This was an overall great listening experience.

Stormy’s Thunder is the second book in the Satan’s Devils MC Utah series by Manda Mellett. I have read most of the Satan’s Devils MC books and I have to say, the Utah club is my favorite so far. I went into this book not particularly liking Stormy, but he really came into his own in this book. The twists and turns really had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. The storyline is complex and the characters are well defined. Ms. Mellett gives me a real flavor of how I imagined a real motorcycle club works. Hard men and women all in for their club. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Mellett will have in store for us next.

Twisted Secrets by Amy McKinley

5 out of 5 stars

I have read a few books written by Ms. McKinley and I think Twisted Secrets was my favorite. The characters are well written and amazing how well they connect. The description of Honolulu was amazing I felt like I was there. This is a military love story with a few twists.

We meet Xander and Riley and there great. Xander is a navy seal and he just came back from a mission that went wrong. When he questions his Commander, he got put on leave on top of that he just broke up with his girlfriend. He has been thinking about his current single status and suspicions over the mission’s bad intel, doubts fester about the direction of his life. Then he meets an angle grad student Riley Evans but she is reeling from a bad break-up.

The last thing Riley expects is to meet someone knew so soon. Especially now that her ex is stalking her and with her family history could she put her trust in Xander or is he another disaster in waiting? Can they over come the obstacles thrown there way? Will they have a happily ever after?

You need to read this great book… I highly recommend it….

Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 1) by Amy McKinley was a story full of suspense and a dash of romance. There are so many adventures and so many twists.

Riley’s life was turn upside down when Navy SEAL Xander walks through the door. All her life she felt like she only brought disaster. Nothing seems to change after she breaks up with her ex-boyfriend he becomes a stalker and her life that much more complicated. Xander might or might not be able to fix everything wrong in her life.

The unknown and the thriller excited me in every chapter. The love story that blossoms in the book drove my desire to finish it that much quicker. Putting the book down was near impossible.

This is the first book in the series and I can’t wait to read the second book in the series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book, more than I anticipated. It captured and held my attention through the entire thing.
The characters were relatable and the way Jae writes about this town makes me want to plan a trip to Washington!

All the quirks that Rose has cracked me up and made me love her that much more and learning of her one weakness made me giggle.

I didn’t want to like Liam, I tried really hard not to like him, too. It wasn’t easy and I wasn’t successful. His story hit a little close to home so I felt like I couldn’t dislike him even though I really wanted to.

AND NOW I want to have a Candlelit Dance under the tree, and I don’t even have a tree I could dance under!

Twisted SecretsTwisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was hooked from page one of this novel which is packed full of romance, drama and suspense, by one of my favourite authors, Amy McKinley. Following a messy break up and with a family history of bad relationships, grad student Riley Evans is not looking for love especially when her ex starts stalking her. Navy SEAL Xander Hale finds himself in a military hospital in Hawaii after a mission gone horribly wrong. Newly single Xander is also not looking for a relationship and is preoccupied by his suspicions over his last mission. However when Riley and Xander meet in the Coffee Hut where Riley works as a barista Riley is suddenly thinking of giving love a second chance when Xander asks her for a date. Xander’s background comes in useful when Riley is put in danger and so he takes her to his family’s island for her safety. However even on the secluded island a hidden threat and dark memories threaten the couple. I was gripped by Riley and Xander’s story and felt completely immersed in the storyline due to the authors descriptive narrative and writing style. The instant attraction between the couple really came across in the story and I liked how their relationship then developed throughout the book. Both of the main characters were likeable and relatable and the suspenseful plot kept me happily turning the pages. This was an exciting and enjoyable read and I look forward to reading the next book in this new series, ‘Deadly Isles Special Ops’.

When Gabi is finally out of the marriage she hated, can she make a new life for herself or will her world come crashing down around her.

Gabi is now flying high after her divorce and has started a new business venture with her best friend. While they are newly set up a job comes in for them to design and project manage the restoration of an old building but when she needs to find a carpenter that’s when her life becomes complicated.

Mason Adams can’t put a foot wrong, everything he touches turns to gold as it seems, but will this new job be the ending of all that especially with when he lays his eyes on Gabi he is done for.

This was a great story, with well developed characters and brilliant fast pace story. Although this part of a series, this book can be read as a stand alone story. I loved the ways the story flows through with the banter from Gabi and Mason which weaves through to the chemistry they have at the end of the story. I am a bit confused with ex-husband storyline, I understand that this may have caused some trust issues with in her confidence but to not try and explain this to Mason was left flat.

I recommend this book and this series and can’t wait to read the next book in this instalment and other books by this wonderful author.

5 Stars

Love At First Haunt: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance is the first book in the Haunted Ever After series by Carrie Pulkinen. Something Ms. Pulkinen does incredibly well is her ability to deliver a fantastic story that I can get completely lost in- in a great way- and this book was no exception.
I was excited to get my hands on this book and when it arrived, I jumped right in. This paranormal romance has ghosts, empaths/psychics, wonderful supernatural elements, a little mystery, some danger, endearing characters, and plenty of sizzle.
Logan Mitchell may seem like he has the perfect life- voted Detroit’s Most Eligible Bachelor, he’s got the good looks and money, seemingly with the world at his feet. But it’s anything but perfect for him- he just feels cursed. With his sanity on the line, hope is fading fast. Until he meets Allison. With her unique talents, she may be the key to solving his problems. If you love paranormal romance with a little sizzle, then you won’t want to miss this book- it’s well worth the read to find out how everything plays out in the end.
The characters are quite quirky individuals who really made this story come alive. They were really interesting and very well developed. I loved Logan and Allison, and was cheering them on right from the start! There was definitely a lot more to them, and the story, than first meets the eye, that’s for sure!
As I have mentioned previously, I have developed a severe addiction to Ms. Pulkinen’s stories- it’s an addiction that I am more than happy to indulge- no rehab needed!
Bring on Book #2!!

Thank you, Carrie Pulkinen!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Heartbeats and Roses is part of Jae Dawson’s A Heartwood Holiday Romance series. The books can be read independently, and can be enjoyed as such. This book is a cute happily ever after clean romance. The descriptive writing is a little over the top at times, but it works. It describes the characters and their personalities. Rose is a florist and is a hopeless romantic. She describes feelings based on flowers that represent them, quotes classic literature, and dreams of knights in shining armor and swooning. Her clothes are described as doilies and lace, often pink, and she is all about romance and flowers. Liam is a doctor and describes feelings based on the chemicals and biological cause of them. Despite the two being completely different, they were best friends their whole lives. Liam quickly left town in high school, and cut all contact with Rose. Fate seems to bring them back together, and a series of freak accidents force their time together. While the book was a bit cheesy, I loved it! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

This was a super sweet story that falls at the perfect time of year. I previously read Moonlight and Belladonna which was set in Hartwood Hollow just as this one was. You can easily read each of these as standalones and each seems to follow the holiday theme.

I had a little trouble with this one as far as connecting with the two main characters. The actual storyline and the events during the story kinda took over for me. The family aspect as well was probably my favorite part of the whole story..Rose and Liam were awesome, and I loved each on their own, I just didn’t connect with the love story between the two, and I can’t explain why, I was more interested in Rose’s flower shop and her Valentines antics and her family, I couldn’t get enough of all of that. I love this small town and really will be looking forward to the next holiday in this series.

This is my 2nd book by this author, and I love many things about her writing and will absolutely be back for more.

Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Mrs R

Twisted SecretsTwisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was an easy read, full of romance, suspense and action but I think it was below the usually high standard for this author.
Riley is dating who she believes is a man separated from his wife, however she soon finds out he is still married which then turns into a very messy break up. Around the same time she meets Xander, who she has an instant attraction to, but she’s unsure if she can trust again. Xander is a Seal who’s last two missions went wrong, and he has a bad feeling about his new commander.
I enjoyed the main plot of the story and there were a few parts I didn’t see coming which added to the suspense.
The book almost felt like it had two different plots running, one with Xander and the other with Riley. Xander’s part seemed to take the backseat and was never resolved, so I’m unsure if this will continue into the next book.
There seems to be a few discrepancies that need resolving. Riley’s relationship with Ava was confusing, she was introduced as just a customer of the coffee shop, but then a chapter later they were best friends and calling each other all the time. I didn’t quite understand the relationship with Melanie either, for someone who was so jealous it seemed unlikely that she would talk Riley into attending Charles class.
There was a huge amount of description on taking pictures, getting them set up, editing and what the picture portrayed which felt like far too much considering the relevance to the story.
Overall, the story was enjoyable and I will be reading the next book in the series.

I personally was not a huge fan of him in the other books but hes slowly growing on me. He is just not a happy person and is about to have troubles that catch up with him. So he needs to fix it and quick, will those who are family help him? This book has romance, suspense and will keep you on your toes. You will not be able to put it down after you start between the amazing story line and those characters.

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Series Book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Angela Hayes

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #2)Bound by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Bound By Secrets is the second book in the Deadly Isles Special Ops series by Amy McKinley. As with all Ms. McKinley’s work, this is really well-written- a fantastic romantic suspense story full of secrets, heartache, pain, guilt, anger, angst, danger, violence, drama, chemistry, sizzle, intrigue, tension, mystery, action, twists and turns, and second chances.
Kayla desperately needed a place to stay, somewhere safe where she wouldn’t be found by her abusive ex- so that’s how she comes to be staying with Jaxon Hale, her brothers’ best friend. But Jaxon and Kayla have a history together- one weighed by heartache, pain, and loss. The budding possibility that began to bloom, was destroyed in one foul swoop- leaving them both longing, all this time, for what could have been. Sharing his home together brings old feelings and memories bubbling to the surface- and complicates matters even more. With danger circling, and secrets being exposed- not to mention their simmering chemistry adding to all the tension- things take an intense turn- with the story holding me firmly in its grip right till the very last word.
Loving this series! Can’t wait to see where we go from here. Bring on Book #3!

Thank you, Amy McKinley!

Twisted Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 1) by Amy McKinley – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez

Twisted SecretsTwisted Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Twisted Secrets is Amy McKinley’s first book in her Deadly Isles Special Ops series. It is very similar to the Gray Ghost series, with some references to overlapping characters. I LOVED this book, and cannot wait to read more. The story is very well told, with the mystery and suspense lasting until the end of the book. I was pleased that I never figured out “who done it” until it was revealed. Bravo! The characters are very likeable, each with their own friendships and past. I wish there was more details unfolded about Xander’s drama within his SEALS team, but I suppose that might continue into the next book. The story focuses on on Riley and Xander, and their developing relationship. I liked that each had their own stuff going on, so its almost 3 stories merging. There is Xander and his possible infiltration within his SEALS team. Riley’s relationship and the drama surrounding her breakup. And then the relationship that is developing between Riley and Xander. Highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next book.

Bound by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 2)
By Amy McKinley

This was a great read. This book was full of emotion, suspense, danger, secrets revealed, and a second chance at love. I love this author so getting my hands on this series is a no brainer because I know she will always give me a great story. It is my suggestion that you read the first book in this series before reading this one. Kayla is trying to get away from an abusive relationship and isn’t sure who to turn to until she runs into Jaxon, her brother’s best friend. She hasn’t seen him since her brother’s funeral but she still loves and he still loves her. Can these two find a way to get past the hurt from the past for a second chance. Will Jaxon be able to keep Kayla safe? Find out these things and more when you read this awesome story. I was hooked as soon as I started reading and I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book.
