My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May is an entertaining story about a woman on a mission to find her match. This whole book has such a fun feel to it and I thought that Willow was such an entertaining character. Her and her friend combined really made me chuckle. I enjoyed reading about her and Gun. They seemed to have such a connection from the start that just felt real and engaging. It made you want to read more about them. This isn’t the first book that I have read by this author and I like the fact that I always know I am going to get a well written story when I read one of her books. This was a great read and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Loved it!!!!!! This book was absolutely adorable, I love the feel of innocence to it as it follows two of the main characters and their developing love story. The book follows a girl who doesn’t believe in love or that good men truly exist, until she meets the one man that changes her perspective, even better its one of the most unlikely of guys. Mixed with a little bit of comedy this Rom Com is definitely chick lit ( lol chick flick but book style).

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May a fun five-star read. This author always makes me smile as I read their work, and this was no different. I so enjoyed this story, Willow reminded me so much of someone I know, and she knows I think she is a hot mess. Watching her as she goes on her journey made me laugh so hard at times I snorted. There are so many great characters but Willow was the one for me.

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Sabrina St Jacques

I listened to this book and from the get go i was chuckling. It was a good read. I would recommend this one if you like shifters and witches.

This is my first book from this author and i will be looking into her others.

She has a way of making humour come out evenly throughout the book without it going over board. The story kept you interested. A good hook to see to the end.

Even though i haven’t read much in the way of shifter’s with witches it was interesting mix for green eyes.

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May – Review by Tracy Wilkin

Scorching Hot MessScorching Hot Mess by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Scorching Hot Mess was without a doubt one of the funniest stories I have read in a long time. Brooke May just captured the very essence of a thrilling and captivating read. I was enamoured by Willow and Gun. She was absolutely hilarious and her match was meat with Gun. The charismatic and enigmatic personalities were impossible to ignore, and was totally invested in them pursuing their happily ever after. Excitement was always at the turn of the page. Drama was never far behind. All that a reader could ever want at the tips of all page turning fingers. Willow and Gun were a couple that were meant to be. And the thrills and spills along the way just made their story that much more entertaining. Alcohol and raging hormones are never a good combination, but the level of passion and compatibility was electric. 4 stars

I really enjoyed this story. It was a great rom com read and one that I would highly recommend. I loved Willow, she was such a relatable character, the author really made her feel believable. There were a few laugh out loud moments between her and Gun, they had a nice amount of chemistry and attraction.
The flow of the story was really good, it made it so easy to read. Overall a fantastic read and I can’t wait to read more from Ms May again in the future.

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by KAYLA OCTAVIANO

FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS!

I loved this book. I was laughing the entire time it was being read to me. Audiobooks are great because you can multitask while they are being read to you. “Shift Happens” was so good, I would rewind it just to be sure I didn’t miss anything! It kept me smiling and upbeat the entire time. Also, the narrator of this book makes the characters come to life with her accents and change in tone when reading quotes. I listened to the first book in the “New Orleans Nocturnes” series, and when I saw the second one available, I was so excited to listen to it! This author writes in such a modern tone that it makes me feel like I’m living it. I look forward to reading and listening to more books by Carrie Pulkinen.

This was a lighthearted and fun romantic comedy with a realistic and lovable main character, Willow and I could not put the book down. It has plenty of romance and comedy, and a little bit of drama and suspense to keep the storyline exciting. It’s a wonderfully written heartwarming story with some real laugh out loud moments. Willow Everett only has flash backs of her drunken night and four wrinkled up napkins that all have phone numbers on them. With her best friends encouragement Willow dumps her lazy boyfriend and goes on a journey to find ‘her forever’. Unfortunately just when she thinks she has found this in the kind, funny and handsome Gun she learns about Sophie. Not wanting to be ‘that type of women’ Sophie tries to ignore the attraction between them but this only gets harder each time they meet. The obvious chemistry between Willow and Gun really comes across in the narrative and I loved the interactions between the two of them. The storyline flowed well and the plot had enough twists in it to keep me happily turning the pages. An enjoyable and engaging read.

Shift Happens: New Orleans Nocturnes, Book 2 Audiobook by Carrie Pulkinen is a fantastic audio version is an incredible book. Having already read this I knew I really enjoyed the book but I wasn’t expecting the narration to bring the book to life so much. It made it so easy to picture the characters and the adventure that was awaiting for them. I loved being able to visualise every aspect of the book. And the person they got to narrate this was the absolute perfect choice. Her voice drew me in completely and I loved the fact that the accent matched the story so well. It really made for a much more immersive experience and couldn’t not have been done any better. I have a read a lot of books by this author, who has easily become one of my favourites, and from now on I will definitely be listening to more.

I was concerned about this book as it is out of realm of my normal genres. Also, I wasn’t familiar with the author as I haven’t read any of her previous books. However, I will say that after reading this book I am going to check out some of her other books because that’s how much I enjoyed reading this one. I must say that I found this to be a very well written romantic story. The characters were very relatable I thought and while filled with their romantic journey there was quite a bit of drama mixed in as well. I found myself laughing out loud at a lot of the mess that she has managed to get herself into that makes her a “hot mess”. In fact, there were some instances that made me think back to several of my friends during their college years. This was a quick read for me because I found myself turning the pages to get to the end of the story. I was intrigued from the first chapter to see where and what was going to happen with this train wreck, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was a wild but fun ride.

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Cora-Lyne Ethier

This is a new genre for me, I love all things witches but never read many books about them.
This book was so fun, funny and engaging. I love listening to audiobooks it makes me feel so much closer to the characters. The narrator dos a great job of demonstrating the emotions of the character. My favourite was the sassiness of some of the characters, I could picture them acting in my head.
It has me intrigued to read the first book in the series. I very much enjoyed this audiobook, if you love werewolves and witches but mostly steamy romances THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Heather Lovelace

Four stars

I love Pulkinen’s writing and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing this story through audio. The narrator does a nice job conveying the emotion of all of the characters, especially the sass of a southern lady who is trying desperately to fit in to the supernatural community without an ounce of magic to her name, or so she thinks. A fun book and a fun listen.

I enjoyed this story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet by her. This is a well written book about attraction and how opposites attract sometimes. I enjoyed how the characters are relatable and kept the story engaging. They made the story feel realistic. Sadie owns a small store, has five soul sisters, and a business partner who is into occult. What will happen when her past comes back to haunt her? This is where Mitchell comes into the picture. They are complete opposites but what will fate have in store for her? I enjoyed how fast paced they kept the story. They truly made the story for me. I highly recommend this book.

Scorching Hot MessScorching Hot Mess by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Scorching Hot Mess by Brooke May is a rom com and flowed well from start to end. Brooke brings her loveable, quirky, and realistic characters to life. They are believable and you become invested in them. This story has a little bit of everything in it, from drama and fun, sarcasm and drunken nights, to holly hotness and lazy boyfriends, to frustration and love and of devil besties. Brooke is really good at writing rom com and always makes me laugh out loud and getting funny looks on the bus.

Willow Everett is definitely a hot mess. She is also sassy and bold, funny, and feisty and after one drunken night her life is about to change.

I enjoy Brooke’s writing and haven’t read anything I have not liked from her. I mean who doesn’t like a blind racoon as a pet?

Jinxed (Hell on Heels Book 2) by Maggie Adams
Genre – Contemporary romance, women’s fiction, romantic comedy
Page Count – 122 pages
Cover Designer – Maria Vickers
Namaste, dear friends! I am Sadie Beauchamp- empath, holistic medicine woman, and crystal collector. I own a small shop near Michigan Avenue in Chicago, live upstairs, and have a business partner, Neil, who is very into the occult.
I also have five soul sisters who love and respect my abilities, although, to be truthful, they don’t exactly understand my life. One is a lovely woman who has found her worth. Another is almost as free-spirited as I, merely pacing her cage at the moment. Yet another is a paragon of beauty and grace, with immense restraint and an imminent implosion. My older soul sister has a tragic past, which shapes her personality. Finally, my goth-loving, gun-toting, smart-mouthed sister, who has secrets too painful to reveal, and a brother, Mitchell, who masks his inability to save her by rescuing those the world has forgotten.
My five soul sisters keep me grounded, and that’s why I’m afraid to share my darkest secret with them. I may not have a choice, though. My past is coming back to haunt me. If I tell them, my friend Kimy will probably insist on calling her brother, Mitchell, who tries to save the world. You see, I have a small problem. I think my store is haunted, and someone is after me.
And Mitchell? Well, he scares me—at least I get nervous and shivery whenever he is near. His aura is so murky, I can’t begin to read it.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure my heart can stand his presence for that long. Of course, Chloe doesn’t think it’s anxiety; she believes it’s attraction. Me? Attracted to Mitchell? We are complete opposites.
Then again, they say opposites attract…

I really liked Alex and Penny’s relationship the story was really good it kept me hooked. What I wasn’t so keen on was the fact it was all in Alex’s POV which didn’t expect took me a second to get into it.

10 days was a super cute, fun read! I blew through this book in two days flat.

An author, Alex, decides he needs a camping trip so he can experience first hand what it’s like to live off the land in a survival situation for a book he is writing. Who best to accompany him but his two best friends who just happen to be experts on the subject. It was fun, sweet, sarcastic, fast paced, and even had me laughing out loud in a few places. I really enjoyed the relationship the characters had with each other. 10 days would appeal most to people who enjoy contemporary romances but I think this is a fun read for anyone.

Alex is an author with a case of writer’s block. His friends Luke and Penny agree to take him on a 10 day camping trip to help him. There he falls in love with Penny. But will she return his feelings and what will Luke think?

Alex was not my favorite character. He felt super inconsistent, I’m not sure why he would choose to write a book about a marine lost in the woods, when he had never been in the service and hated the outdoors. It didn’t make sense to me. His background was also confusing.

I did like both the characters of Penny and Luke. There are themes of self harm, so trigger warning for anyone who needs it. It was definitely fun to read the steamy bits, but I found myself skipping over parts to get to those because I wasn’t enjoying Alex’s inner monologue and the rest of the story.

10 Days by KJ Holliday

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Holliday had me hooked from the beginning. 10 Days is a great start to a new author.

Alex didn’t think the 10 days would be so bad. He is there for a writing project. He thought he’d be able to pull it off, but he didn’t think about falling in love. The quote I chose for Alex is: “I’m going to have to seriously work on raising your expectations about how people treat you.”

Penny is there for the fun of it. She is helping Alex with his outdoor experience. What she doesn’t expect is for Alex to fall in love with her. The quote I chose for Penny is: “The tent. I figured your first lesson would be figuring out how to set it up.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Comedy lovers.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If I had friends like Alexander’s, I think that I would murder them all, because nothing could convince me to go on a survivalist trek, not even for research for a novel. I tell you I’d be googling it with my hands wrapped around a glass of wine, wrapped up in a duvet, binge-watching something terrible on Netflix. Alexander Jones isn’t as smart as me and instead lets his friends pressure him into a daft adventure that they swear will give him the know-how in writing his next novel. Alex, bless him thinks it’s going to be easy, because he possesses ‘deductive reasoning’, but easy it is not. I mean, I could have told him that.
I guess he does have them to thank for meeting the girl of his dreams. Because in 10 days he falls in love with the childhood friend of his mate Luke. I really like Penny Foster (the childhood friend), I thought she was refreshing and cool, and it was interesting to get to know her through Alex’s narrative, who was insanely sarcastic and just the right amount of miserable about most things.
Honestly, this was hilarious, and I adored it. Holliday just knows how to grip you, and as simple as the storyline is, it never gets boring or old. I would recommend this to anyone. Get reading, you will have a laugh, trust me.

I’ve never really liked short stories because I never felt like there was enough in them. “10 Days” in a wonderful book to read if you want a quick read because you are not ready to dedicate your time to a series. This book is practically a movie that you read. Luke is adorable and everybody will love him. Penny is a strong heroin who makes us women proud. As a journalist, she has to be. She’s also sensitive and empathetic and goes through hard times. Alex is a smart and very emotional writer who has to learn everything the hard way. This book has friendship, love, and an informative camping trip. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have the best friends in the world, read this book. You will understand after.
