Renewed (Fateful Justice Series) by Sara Vinduska – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Renewed (Fateful Justice Book 6)Renewed by Sara Vinduska
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An enjoyable and entertaining romantic suspense which kept me hooked throughout. Set in wild Wyoming, the author does a great job of bringing the setting vividly to life through the descriptive narrative. It’s here that confirmed bachelor, cowboy Hayden Goddard runs his family’s ranch, and where he is shot and left for dead. He wakes up to find that his life has been saved by Ruby Drake, who is on the run from her past and has moved to the countryside for a fresh start. When Ruby’s past catches up with her Hayden is determined to protect the women who saved his life, and who he’s falling in love with. I loved how the relationship between Ruby and Hayden developed and their spicy chemistry sizzled off the page. This was a cowboy romance with plenty of drama and action, as well as suspense and the storyline had me gripped.

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series Book 2) by Winter Austin – Review by Micalah Weatherholtz

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series: #2)Born to Die by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Born to Die is the second book in the McIntire County book series and another great romantic suspense/mystery from Winter Austin. This book is its own case/story but we do meet Cassy and Boyce in Book one, Atonement, which is the story of Cassy’s sister, Nicolette, and Con. We hear a continuance from book one of their life over the past two years but we get plenty of suspense, twists, and turns concerning Boyce and Cassy. Cassy and Boyce have a history and a bitter one at that because she got hurt and he ran away when she needed him the most claiming his job would get in the way and ruin a case they were building on his mother. So struggling with her own mental health and PTSD she is shocked to find him re-entering her life to aid a murder/bank robbery case in McIntire County. Can she find it in her head to solve this case, and in her heart to trust him again? Winter has written another winning novel in my book.

The Golden Garza (Red Cage, #4)The Golden Garza by S. Ann Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My sunshine. The bringer of light in my dark, dark world.
Holy broody, dark, possessive, strong man, Batman. The Golden Garza gets all five stars from me. I truly enjoyed reading Tripp and Sunny’s story, his dark monster, and her warm sunshine. This can be read as a stand-alone as each story is an individual one but there are elements in each book that connect them and would make more sense if they were read in order. Each of these books thankfully has a happy, satisfying ending, and no cliffhangers! You will need to schedule a big chunk of time once you have started this book. I started The Golden Garza and lost and entire day because I just could not stop reading or pull myself away from it. Honestly, this is a wonderful, spicy book/series with a great storyline that will pull you in and not let go. Do yourself a favor and give this book and this series a chance!

The True Garza (Red Cage Book 3)The True Garza by S. Ann Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Didn’t you know?” “Love is madness.”
Once you start to read True Garza and get into Trueman and Londons story you will be immersed and unable to come up for air until you have devoured every last page. I can attest to feeling that way throughout the 24 hours it took me to read this, I just couldn’t stop! I appreciated the real life struggles that True suffered with because as someone who has also been given a diagnosis of ADHD it can be as debilitating and difficult to control as he describes in this book. It takes so much work all the time, being cognizant of what is expected of you, and to ‘try’ to be normal and not speak as Guy in this book states like “tripping over a bunch of wires.” I liked that this book was spicy but that wasn’t the sole focus, there was plenty to follow and love in the interesting storyline as well. This was a fabulous 5 star read and I loved it and the entire Red Cage series so far!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read many books by this author as she is one of my top ten and this book was once again a great read. I love how she is able to bring the characters to life. I find that the characters begin to grow and evolve throughout the story and that adds to the feeling as though I am right there in the heart of the action. I also love how she is able to balance out the drama and romance making such a well rounded book. I find that the characters have a real electric chemistry and I really look forward to reading more from this author and this series. I really do highly recommend this author.

This very talented author never ever disappoints with her creative and captivating storylines, amazing characters and steamy love scenes. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read from this author and she now has a new fan. I love a good slow burn romance but this story exceeded all my expectations. These characters drew me into their story right from the beginning. I loved how you got to read both of their points of views. I could not put this book down until the end. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing story.

Kylee Parker is a really good police officer in Philadelphia. She loves her job putting the bad guys away. Kylee goes to a call and finds herself arresting her high school crush, Jayson Donovan. She knows he is one of the bad guys but she can’t help the feelings she has for him. Kylee and Jayson get to know each other again and they find out they do care for one another.
They better be careful because when you know a bad guy there are more to follow. Will Kylee and Jayson find love or will the past destroy it?

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession #1) by R.L. Dunn

This is another fantastic read by the author. This is the first book in a new series. Ritual Obsession is a fantastic read and I can’t wait for more. This is the first book in the Blood Obsession Series.

Bobbi is new to the team and has to make an impression on her partner. She impresses her so now she should be good. Right? Well not really. Now there’s someone out there killing girls that look like her. The quote I chose for Bobbi is: “I also bet there are a lot of things I have to learn. I’m looking forward to new experiences.”

Max is a police vet and has been with the station for 15 years. He notices Bobbi on her first day and can’t seem to get her off his mind. The problem is there is now someone killing girls. What makes matters worse is she doesn’t listen to him. The quote I chose for Max is: “Bobbi, I’m sorry. Look, about three years ago, I ended a serious relationship. We were engaged. Carole was very special to me. Friday night when I got home from the bar with Dave, there was a message from her on my machine. She’s back in town. Carole called me early yesterday and asked me to come over for lunch. I went to her apartment for lunch, and a lot of old emotions came to the surface. I thought she was the only person in the whole world for me. Our relationship ended badly. There were a lot of accusations and unkind words, and we never really ended it. We’d both made mistakes. When I saw her again, I realized she was my past. I went and sat on the beach to contemplate my future.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

Undeniable (Central Florida Stories Book 2) by Victoria Saccenti – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Undeniable (Central Florida Stories, #2)Undeniable by Victoria Saccenti
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Undeniable is a BDSM themed romance between Arley and Kurt (some spoilers). Arley and Kurt grew up as neighbors, but he is five years older and her brother’s best friend, while growing up. After the death of her father, Arley’s brother started to change, becoming more secretive and abusive; Kurt was always there though to soften the blow. They decided after her brother beat her up for the last time, it was time for them to move back to their motherland, Puerto Rico. Next thing you know, fifteen years have gone by and everyone is living their own lives. However, while Arley is living in Tennessee, as a teacher, she is attacked and kidnapped to join a sex traffick ring. Luckily, she is rescued, but has to hide out, which she does in Florida with a childhood friend. Little did she know Kurt, the boy she loved but could never have, was back living in Florida. After all her trauma, she wanted to get back to some resemblance of normal and get a job as a bartender at a BDSM club. Kurt happens to be a part owner of this club and their journey begins. He continues to be her protector as a group of men are trying to find and claim her, but during this protection their attraction grows and he brings her little by little into his world.
While I enjoyed this book I was surprised that there was more plot than BDSM. I really did fall in love with these characters. Arley is a strong, intelligent, curious, submissive woman (and I say that in a positive way). She mentally gets through all the crazy that happens by leaning on others and being open to different possibilities. Kurt, made a great dom in this scenario. He is a retired Marine who is a true protector. He is open with his feelings, doesn’t deal with the bullshit, is patient, and shows his caring side often. Even though, as you read, you can tell and hear the dominance in his “voice”, he knows the boundaries that people are capable of. He made Arley feel safe, loved, protected, and sexy as hell. Their relationship was truly enjoyable to watch as it deepened.

Devil’s Breath by Lang Johnson – Review by Micalah Weatherholtz

Devil's BreathDevil’s Breath by Lang Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“There are some who can live without wild things, and there are those who cannot.” -Aldo Leopold

This book, Devils Breath, really surprised me with how much I really enjoyed it. I think we have all come to expect the same storylines from romance novels no matter what genre they fall into. This was a romantic suspense, femme fatale type romance. Devils Breath was fresh and new for me and I was pulled into the book immediately. Cover to cover Cassius, Sera, and Raine kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a wild thrill ride from start to finish and the ending was great. I really like the main characters from the start. Sera’s journey within herself, from caged, monstrous, ice queen, with ultimate control, made by her father, to the warm, welcoming, emotional woman she really was just looking for someone to show her what love really means was pretty powerful after everything she’d had to endure her entire life. Cassius with his stoicism, and endless patience but ruthlessness when needed made him very endearing to me as a reader. No one in real life is perfect, everyone is fighting some type of battle we know nothing about. The author made the characters so real and human I felt like they could jump off the page. There were even a few times in the book that made me laugh and giggle while reading it. The author’s ability to stitch all of that together was flawless and everything came together very well. 5 thumbs up for Devils Breath. I would definitely recommend giving it a try especially if your tired of that same old romance troupe.

Devil’s Breath by Lang Johnson – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Devil's BreathDevil’s Breath by Lang Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil’s Breath is a suspense romance about an assassin named Sera and her mark, Cassius. Sera grew up poor with an abusive father after her mother died from drugs. Sera’s biggest weakness is satisfying her father, no matter what. Her father and a couple of associates want to invest in a “gems” company. This “gems” company is actually a way to sell drugs under the radar due to Sera’s brilliant chemistry mind. However, while she is a millionaire, they need a backer, that is where Cassius comes in. Cassius is one of the associate’s brothers, who hates him and wants revenge on the family he was disowned from. What they all didn’t count on was Cassius’ crazy smart brain and the fact that Sera’s tough exterior could have a flaw. Will Cassius figure out the plan before he loses his life? Will Sera’s tough exterior faulter for anyone besides her father? A game of cat and mouse is a good one!
I enjoyed this book a lot. It always helps when you have a badass female lead who is an assassin with daddy issues. You get to see her transformation throughout the book and give you hope that people might be able to do and be better. However, her daddy issues did make me want to slap her at times. The two characters together had great banter, which I thrive off of. However, Cassius, oh my, he was my favorite character in the book. He was adventurous, charming, down to earth, and understanding. How he treated the people around him, especially Sera, just made you melt! He was a broken but honest, lovable, really good man that you just couldn’t help falling in love with.

Born in Darkness (Mafia Elite Book 3) by Amy McKinley – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Born in Darkness (Mafia Elite, #3)Born in Darkness by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As usual, the author produced another romantic dark drama within the mafia families. This book is about Emiliana (Em), one of the mafia’s princesses. In the previous book, we learn a lot of Em and how she was kidnapped, trafficked, but also eventually saved by Stefano – the secret love of her life. In this book, we dive deeper into Em’s story and the secret love she has had for Stefano, her entire life. Stefano feels the same as Em, but his father, an evil mob boss who holds her over his head in order to get what he wants. Throughout this book, the two of them build their romance, go public, and try to find a way to live happily ever after. I love the way the author puts a story down, makes it easy to read, and while getting details is also straight to the point. My most favorite aspect of this book however, is the bad ass women! While each of the mafia books are geared around a main female character, I thought this particular one showed a different side. You know, growing up in a mafia family, you have to have a hard shell, training, and vigilance. The women, especially Em, showed that while the husbands, boyfriends, and bosses are not to be messed with, well neither are their women!!

Emiliana grows so much from the start to the end of this book. Stefano wants to be better than his family. The sparks between these two are crazy.

One of my favorite things if finding an author whom I enjoy and this is definitely one of those. I have read many books by this author and this is the second series I have read by her and I am not disappointed. I like how the characters are realistic and the stories are unique and refreshing. I am always on the edge of my seat wanting to see how things will unfold.

I like how there is always a bit of conflict in the characters life and how things are not predictable. I like how there is not always a direct path to the romance and drama added in. I also do like the underlying story that plays out and brings the characters together. I really find the author grabs the reader and keeps you wanting more. I will definitely be reading more from this author and this series.

The Sound of Silence AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Dakota Willink never ceases to amaze me with her storytelling. The Sound of Silence is a suspenseful, dark romance about a woman named Gia. Gia finally finds love to find out it is never the kind you want. She finds herself in a controlling, abusive relationship but in the end finds happiness. Reading of her struggles, courage, and perseverance really pulled at my heartstrings. While nothing to this severity, this reminded me of my own story. As a teenager, I found myself for 4 years, in an abusive, controlling relationship. I allowed this behavior because I thought I loved him and that he loved me. He would be a different person behind closed doors, but then find ways to weasel himself back into my heart every time. It wasn’t until I was 18 that I had had enough of feeling like I wasn’t worth anything. About a year later, I met an amazing man who I now call my husband. Like Derek (Gia’s saving grace), my husband was very patient with a girl who was broken. However, he saw something in me that I thought I had lost – a woman who deserved to be loved and cared for with respect. So, thank you Dakota Willink for writing this amazing story of survival – I truly believe that it gives hope to those individuals out there that are struggling with similar experiences, and hopeful it will also give them enough courage to find a different path because they are all worth it.

This is another great read by Kells. Dark Bastard was an amazing read and I can’t wait for the next one. It’s part of A Dark Sparrow Series, but can be read as a standalone.

Ellie is trying to live one day at a time, but being a 911 dispatcher is hard. Especially when she thinks she can save someone’s life. The quote I chose for Ellie is: “And you know nothing about me, Sam. And yet, you stopped that final jump because of me. We’re strangers who have lost their way yet found each other. I see honor in you, a protector of your brothers. You may have reached the end of your rope that night, but I believe your strength is still greater than your pain. I don’t care that I don’t know everything about you. I think that for the moment, staying alive is the only solution we have.”

Sam is feeling lost and ready to give up on life. He decides to call his brother only to get a wrong number. When he does hear the person’s voice it changes everything for him. The quote I chose for Sam is: “I couldn’t forget the sadness in your voice when you hung up on me. It’s the only reason I persisted. I want nothing from you, just the reassurance that you’re all right.”

Sinful Daughter: A mafia Romance by Emily Bowie

This is the first book I’ve read by Bowie. This book had me hanging on the edge of my seat the entire time. Theo and Aria had me falling in love.

Aria is the oldest of the girls. Not wanting to be in the family business she gets caught up in it. When Theo enters her life it’s turned upside down. The quote I chose for Aria is: “I thought it would be exciting. I envisioned saving my family, showing I can be as good at this life as them. I was petrified that I put my family’s lives in danger. I was scared I would never see you, to tell you how big of an a**hole you are—”

Theo is a cop and isn’t a dirty one. His only reason for being a good guy is to find who killed his dad. Once he finds out who it is, things change. He thought he could use Aria, but didn’t think he’d fall in love. The quote I chose for Theo is: “I know I let you down by us losing the case with Marco. But I have evidence, hard proof, that Nicoli Rossi killed my father. This evidence will put him away. This is the break we’ve been looking for.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.
