Moonlit Mirage: A Cook Islands Romance (Moonlit Destination Series) by Amy McKinley

McKinley has really outdone herself in this short romance story. A great way to start a series and a definite must read. It’s short and sweet, but will leave you wanting more.

Nadia is now living on a beautiful island. When she runs into someone from her past. She doesn’t want to give him a chance but then she does. When she meets his sister again things go bad quickly. The quote I chose for Nadia is: “We haven’t known each other that long, Cade. I’d hate for you to invest so much money then find out that whatever this is between us is short term.”

Cade’s life was turned upside down five years ago after an accident that almost cost him his life. A woman, or as he finds out a girl, saves him from dying and then runs. What happens when he runs into her on the island he now calls home. The quote I chose for Cade is: “The accident. That was the start of a much bigger nightmare for my family. As much as we could, we’ve moved on. There isn’t anything holding me in New York any longer.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

First, We Kill All the Lawyers (Donovan Trait Series) by Seelie Kay – Review by Michelle Austin

First, We Kill All the LawyersFirst, We Kill All the Lawyers by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First, We Kill All the Lawyers by Seelie Kay was a great 5 star read.
I was pulled in right from the beginning.

Donovan is a highly respected lawyer in Chicago with a secret, he’s a vampire. When things take a serious twist after a case and someone attempts to take his life Donovan needs to find out who is after him and why? When other lawyers start to die it becomes very obvious that someone is focusing on lawyers.

Overall I really enjoyed this thrilling read. I really liked Donovan, he was handsome, smart and so much more. The additional characters also added a great element to the story. We also get the killers POV which allows us to see the person’s thoughts and craziness. I was on the edge of my seat trying to guess who the killer was and their motive. If you’re looking for a thrilling read that pulls you right in, 1-click and get started today on this one. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Melissa Agena

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is awesome! India Kells has done it again! Urban Justice is the second book in the Chicago Vigilante series. This book follows vigilante Sloane Friday. Ms. Friday is a pretty badass former police officer who wants nothing more than to shut down the Phantom drug operation. In order to do so she needs the help of Professor Luke Radcliff. Luke is a former Marine with a superior knowledge of Chicago’s underground tunnels. What they don’t expect is the serious attraction they have for each other. This book is a continuation of the first novel and just like the first one it’s so good! It’s such an easy read and it is also so easy to get sucked into the adventure of taking down this drug. All you want to do is continue to read it to find out what happens. There are so many twists and turns that keep you guessing. The sexy scenes are incredibly hot! You honestly can’t put this book down! I truly can’t wait for the next book!

4out of 5 stars

This is the first book that I have read by Ms. McKinley and enjoyed this short read it had romance, betrayal, secrets, forgiveness, honesty, and love. The connection between the main characters where amazing I also enjoyed the description of the Island; I could imagine being there and enjoying the scenery.

Years ago, Cade and Nadia meet in some special circumstances. Cade never forgot the woman that saved his life years ago. Nadia was not supposed have feeling for Cade he was a mark. So now years later they run into each other. Nadia wants to run and Cade does not want to let her go.

Will Nadia be-able to tell Cade her secrets? Will Cade forgive Nadia? Will they move past all the secrets and have a happily ever after?

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Sheri Schrader

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series by R.L. Dunn includes books 1-3 in a single package. The books included are Secure Desire, Secure Again, and Secure Heart. I always enjoy seeing a box set available from a good author. If you enjoy one from a series you will most likely enjoy reading more from the series. These are all good books and I enjoyed them all.
Secure Desire: I was drawn in because Cassiopeia, the main female character, has a history of being an art historian. Also, what a fantastic name. Ian is at the head of a private security firm after serving in Afghanistan. The two had met years before and have been brought back together. Ian will do anything to protect Cassiopeia. I was reading to find out how an art historian had gotten herself into so much danger. I really enjoyed the story and the characters and hope to see more of them in future books. This has a little bit of something for anyone who likes a good suspense book.
Secure Again: This is a continuation of the first book, so I highly recommend reading book one in the series first. This story focuses on Dr. Elizabeth Reed, who notices a mysterious medical issue at the jail, and Martin Bailey, CEO of Chase Security International, who has his own investigations ongoing. This is a good story that is full of suspense, mystery, and romance. I was drawn into the story and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on for Dr. Reed and Martin’s cases. I liked there were separate stories, but they intertwined.
Secure Heart: This book focuses on Julian Dupart, the new head of the San Diego branch, and Holly Dupree Morrison. These stories have thrills, mystery, romance, and more to them. I have enjoyed how the series draws the attention to a different couple in each story, while you still get to see the ones from past books. I really enjoyed the character of Holly and how she will fight for her daughter no matter the danger.

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells

Another fantastic read by Kells. She knows what she’s doing and I’m loving it. You will as well if you like action and romance.

Sloane is another Vigilante that we have the pleasure of meeting. She doesn’t do relationships and she sure as hell doesn’t fall in love. That changes when she meets a professor. The quote I chose for Sloane is: “Well, professor, where were we?”

Luke came home wanting to do something different. He finds himself teaching and loving every minute of it. He doesn’t expect to fall in love. Not with a pink haired woman who drives him crazy. The quote I chose for Luke is: “You’re so sexy when you’re strong, but irresistible when you beg. Let me hear your lovely voice, my warrior.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

We meet a lot of different characters but the series revolves around the Chase Security team. Each book we get more in-depth Information about a member as they find romance and danger.

Overall this is a good box set. If you want danger, drama and brotherhood it’s around every corner in these books. The romance is just an extra to sweeten the deal. Enjoy

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In this second installment of the Chicago Vigilantes novels it is the story of Sloane Friday, a fiery ex cop with bright pink hair and a chequered history, which is all being brought back to her as she takes her turn as the Vigilante, and continues the fight against the drug that is Phantom and it’s suppliers. The death toll is rising higher and the hospitals are full of patients who have been affected by Phantom, but have not succumbed to it’s deadly influence.

It begins underground with Luke Radcliffe doing some urban exploration in a familiar set of tunnels with a friend of his, that is until he gets sick of him complaining and offers him a get out clause, after he leaves, Luke continues on until he hears shouts and gunfire in the tunnels. Thinking quickly, he tries the door and when he finds it stuck, he goes to find an alternative entrance to the control room above, when he does, he finds the Vigilante facing off against three armed individuals and remembering his military background in the Marines, he takes a shot at the one who is creeping behind the Vigilante and then quickly makes his exit from the tunnels, just before he gets out, the Vigilante catches up with him and nods an acknowledgement before blending back into the shadows.

We next see Sloane removing the Vigilante suit at their command center and get’s a dressing down from her boss regarding her antics in the tunnels and how she isn’t invincible, but is still a vital member of the team and Sloane explains her thinking behind the risk and the consequences of her actions. This leads the conversation to her mystery saviour in the tunnels and whether they had found out who he is and what he was doing there, but the only shot of the license plate is unreadable and they are back to square one, however, they did discover that there was a professor at the local university, Professor Luke Radcliffe who knows a lot about the underground tunnels and may have an idea of whether they could be the way that the traffickers are moving the Phantom around.

The next day Sloane dons a wig and goes to the university to talk to the professor and attend one of his lectures, but first she decides to go to his office and have a look around, then realising the time, she leaves and heads to the lecture hall, but not before running into someone, they apologise to each other and head their own way thinking nothing more of the encounter, that is until they realise that they are in the same lecture hall. After the lecture has finished, Sloane stays back to talk to the professor and ask for his help, he politely declines, but Sloane leaves her card and asks him to contact her if he changes his mind. This is where Sloane and Friday meet for the first time, but as the situation changes and they realise that Luke is in more danger than he knows and that they will have to work together in order to attain the goals which they set themselves, this is where attraction and feelings come into play to make things just a little bit more complicated.

Will they be able to work together and successfully navigate the darkness surrounding them, or will the darkness separate and destroy them and those around them? This action packed thrill ride with a splash of romance added in, will leave you not wanting to put the book down until you know how it ends, another addictive installment without a doubt.

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed all three novels in this box set, each book in ‘The Chase Security Series’ follows either one of the Chase brothers, Ian and Kieran, or a member of their team of former Navy SEALS and other military officers. The series is intended for readers 18+ due to adult themes and each story can be read as a standalone story, however I enjoyed ‘binge reading’ the whole set of books. Book one, ‘Secure Desire’ is Ian and Cassie’s Story and is a second chance at love romantic suspense. Whilst Book two ‘Secure Again’ is Martin and Elizabeth’s Story and sees Elizabeth’s high school sweetheart Marty coming back into her life and they try to rekindle their relationship but things are complicated by their ongoing investigations. Book three ‘Secure Heart’ follows Julian and Holly’s Story. Widower Julian didn’t think he would fall in love again until he meets indie artist Holly and her little girl. Each novel is full of drama, suspense and of course romance. The storyline’s had me hooked from start to finish and the plots kept me gripped and wanting to find out how each story was going to end. I loved the main characters in each novel and the author really made them come alive which made me feel engaged in their stories. I liked how their relationships developed and how their chemistry really came across in the narrative. Each novel is action packed and fast paced with likeable and relatable characters and I found the box set to be an enjoyable and engaging set of books. Highly recommended.

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Angela Shirley

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great series and each book opens up the world of the Chase security and delves into the world of these hunky security guys.

The first book is Secure Desire, When one night imprints in your mind and has never really forget it, but when a chance meeting with the same person stirs up those feelings again, do you go for it?

Ian is a ex-navy seal who has embarked on new horizons with new businesses, but when he meets a blast from his past, will he give love a chance or stay well away.

Cassie is trying to rebuild her life, after an attack she has been left with amnesia, until Ian comes into her life she remembers some of their history but this causes her to have anxiety of what will happen next.

This is the first book in this series and I thoroughly enjoyed the aspects of mystery, intrigue and interlaced with romance. The book held my attention throughout and was eager to race through to get the end on who was after Cassie and the reason. Cassie and Ian’s characters where well developed and the chemistry came through the story.

The story itself was well written and weaved through the suspense and mystery well. I really enjoyed the fresh plot as some of these ex military can be the same but this was a great twist on this genre. I definitely recommend this story and can’t wait to read the next instalment

The Second Book is Secure Again, When you have a blast from your past, will you be able to resist or crave what you have been missing all this time.

Elizabeth is a doctor who has a troubled past, although she takes her oath very seriously but when a man from her past comes crashing in will her heart be able to survive the encounter.

Martin is the CEO of Chase Security, when his brother is admitted into hospital, Elizabeth is the last person he thinks he will see, but will there past be able to be overcome and hopefully create a fresh future or will the past catch up with them and will Martin have to save her from the threat that is attaching them.

This story is full of action, thrills and twists. Martin’s character in the first book was so strong and controlled, in this book you feel the vulnerability in him and it is great to see him in turmoil over this independent and sassy woman. This story was well written and had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and see which one of the characters is next to get his story.

The final book is Secure Heart, When you are asked to help a friend to manage one of there facilities, will his broken heart ever be mended when a woman and her daughter need his help.

Julian is suffering from a broken heart, widowed for a few years he has not really seemed his self since. After starting his job at San Diego office of Chase Security will this be able to try and forget the past, but when he is asked to protect a woman and her young daughter, plus having to deal with a serial killer within his patch, will he be able to manage both of his assignments.

Holly is a single mother trying to survive in the world, with her song writing and singing she is getting by, until one night an attempt on her life shakes her and enrols the help of Chase Security and in walks Julian. As they work closely together she starts to see that there can be light in his broken heart but will she be able to crack through before its too late.

I love this series, each book offers a great insight into the worlds RL Dunn creates. Julian and Holly’s characters are brilliant together and the chemistry pluses off the page and just draws you into the story where I could not stop reading. I do have to say I think these two are my favourite of the duo’s I have read and the tension and action is just enough not to be too unrealistic.

Each story can be read as a standalone but some characters do arc into each story and who would not want to read more of this wonderful stories. I can’t wait to read the next instalment to this story soon.

This box set is one of my favorite ones to get comfy and get lost in the world R.L. Dunn has written about. Each book has its own storyline and couple it is focused on. Chase Security is made up of former military elite. There is a case that comes along that needs Chase Security expertise. There is also a lovely woman that the main character meets and wants to start a relationship with. There are times when the mood gets hot and heavy. It is an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this box set as all the books are intriguing, and full of adventure and excitement.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink – Review by Colleen Noyes

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First and foremost WOW! I am a pretty critical reader, rarely giving higher than 4 stars so you have to blow me out of the water and this book did just that. It takes a unique author to tell a story that revolves around so much vulnerability, betrayal, fear, and yet incredible strength. This story had so many elements it’s hard to articulate without spoilers. The characters are well written, very real, and each have their own quirks. I appreciated that for instance when Derek was speaking the author portrayed that while he was a good man, he still had the same thoughts of any other regular guy, he still had wants and desires and would catch himself having to rethink and almost battle with himself, not because he was a bad guy just that he was human. When you are a woman who has survived any type of unspeakable act the internal battle is real and even with therapy. You constantly second guess, wonder, feel bouts of shame, but then you find an inner strength, a will to survive, a will not to let it define who you are. This author did a perfect balance of all of that, I could feel the struggles of Gia, I could feel the evil of Ethan, I could feel the confusion of Derek. I could feel the hairs on my neck standing up, I could feel the pit in my stomach, I could feel the ache of my muscles, I could feel the determination, self preservation, and the pure will reading these words. I don’t know how I have never read anything by this author, but she will be on my permanent one click list now. If you like a romantic suspense that has a powerful woman with a great supporting cast than this book is for you. I would suggest you read the synopsis for any warnings the author gives, if you are triggered by certain things.

When you meet the man of your dreams but the best way to love him is to leave, can your heart ever recover.

Cade is driven off the road into the river but as he is sinking into the river wondering how he will escape an angel comes and recuses him, although they are safe as soon as he tries to find she vanishes into think air. Nadia recuses Cade but when the instant attraction happens she needs to escape quickly before it gets more complicated.

Although they both can’t the incident out of there minds a chance meeting years later ignites the chemistry between them but can both of them take a risk and chance a relationship.

I loved this book, as with all Amy’s books they are full of action and well written characters, this is a great taster and you are left wanting more with these two wonderful people. The characters are full of flaws and with their attraction this make for a great read. I can’t wait for the series to come if this is any indication of the characters and stories.

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this novel to be an enjoyable and engaging read and the storyline and plot had me hooked from start to finish. The story is full of drama, action, suspense, violence and romance which made this a real fast paced, action packed page turner. Although book two in the ‘A Chicago Vigilantes Novel’ series it can be read as a standalone story, however I enjoyed the exciting first book in the series. In ‘Urban Justice’, Chicago is being dragged even deeper into darkness and the fearless ex cop Sloane Friday works with a few other select men to help guard her new home, as the Vigilante. When the deadly drug Phantom continues to spread claiming innocence life’s each night Sloane asks former Marine Professor Luke Radcliffe for help. Luke thought he had left behind the world of violence but as he is dragged back into the underground world of the criminals he discovers and admires the unique team of Vigilantes who are fighting in the shadows. As Luke and Sloane come together to save the people of Chicago they put their own lives in danger. The more time they spend together the more difficult they find it to deny their attraction to one another. As love blossoms between them in the darkness and violence that surrounds them the couple wonder if they can ever have a future together. The chemistry between Sloane and Luke literally sizzled off the page and the author really made the main characters come alive. Due to the descriptive narrative the setting was also bought to life and I felt fully immersed in the underground world of the Vigilantes. This was an exciting read and I look forward to future books in this series.

However, it could be read out of order. They are great quick books, and you won’t want to put them down. This book is filled with a good mix of romance, action, suspense, and justified violence. I like that the female lead, Sloane, is an awesome strong bad @$$ woman! She is an ex cop, and holds her own against the men. She is on a mission and rocks it! Each book has different characters and their stories are all unique and different. The characters are so well written that you find yourself completely immersed in their stories. Through the 3 books the characters are build up so even though the main characters in the stories are different the leads from previous books appear and you are given more of an insight into them.

It’s a really enjoyable series. If you are looking for action packed, edge of your seat romance this is definately worth a read.

This is the second book in the two-book series. I have enjoyed both books, but I think that I like the second book slightly more. India Kells has been my go-to author when I am looking for a juicy book to read. The action and adventures pulled me in from the beginning. I kept turning the pages and I had to read this in one sitting. The book is about a group of crimefighters that are a Vigilante group. The leader is a woman, Sloane who happens to be a police officer who works with this group. They are out to get the Phantom who is terrorizing Chicago. There may be a love relationship steaming between Sloane and one of the vigilante members. Can Sloane and the Vigilante stop the Phantom? Will they be the group that keeps Chicago safe? I highly recommend reading this book to find out the answers to these questions and much more.

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Rachel Moss

Urban Justice (A Chicago Vigilantes Novel #2)Urban Justice by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Urban Justice by India Kells is the second book in the Chicago Vigilantes series and was a great read! This book was captivating from the first chapter, and was a great sequel to the first novel. This book is part of a series, but I found it works well as a stand alone novel. You don’t necessarily need to know the events in the first book to follow along with this one, although it does help a bit. The characters were great and the story was amazing. I still can’t decide whether I liked the first book better or this one, they were both so good! This was a great edition to the series and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series Books 1-3 by R.L. Dunn – Review by Angela Hayes

Secure Boxed Set (Chase Security #1-3)Secure Boxed Set by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4 ½ Stars

Secure Boxed Set contains the first three books in the addictive Chase Security series by R.L Dunn. I am so glad I stumbled on this series, and author- as she has proved to be a great storyteller. This is a romantic suspense series- that will keep you glued to the pages as you get swept up in the stories. Each book in the series could be read as a standalone- as each book focuses on one of the Chase Security team members. These stories are full of action, adventure, alpha males, and strong women.

The series contains:

Secure Desire (Book #1)

4 ½ Stars

Secure Desire is the first book in the Chase Security series by R.L Dunn, and is a really great action-packed romantic suspense- with mystery, murder, intrigue, violence, brutality, spills and thrills, hidden agendas, sinister plots, clandestine ops, covert organizations, private security, family, friendship, Politics, loss, betrayal, chemistry….. and soooo much more.
Ian Chase is an ex-Navy SEAL turned successful business man, now heading up the Chase Group, a billion dollar global empire in the venture capital and private security sector. He has never forgotten a brief encounter with a beautiful, but engaged, art historian he met six years earlier. So, imagine his surprise when he unexpectedly encounters her again- only now she’s no longer engaged or married, and works for the FBI. He knows there is more to the story, and to her, than she’s letting on. Secrets surround her. And he’s determined to get to the bottom of it all.
Cassiopeia Ellis remembers meeting Ian, and he’d made quite the impression on her. But she remembers very little else from that night. She suffers from amnesia and is haunted by nightmares from a very traumatic experience. Running into Ian again after all these years, both thrills and terrifies her. She still feels their electric chemistry and magnetic pull- but she is deathly afraid that he’ll discover her secret and then won’t want anything to do with her. Much better to push him away, than to suffer the pain and embarrassment of rejection. But Ian has arrived at a point where he is able to really help Cassie- as someone seems to want her dead. Can Ian protect her and keep her safe? Who has targeted Cassie, and why? What happened to her six years ago, and what has that got to do with the present threat? All the answers to these questions, and more, can be discovered between the covers of this suspenseful read!
I really enjoyed this book. I was intrigued right from the beginning, totally engrossed the whole way through. There were some shocking, emotional, and violent moments that had me anxiously reading, on the edge of my seat to discover if things would turn out ok. There was a lot going on, and so much to keep track of, too.
R.L Dunn has written a complex, multi-layered story full of clever interconnected details which gives it a real unpredictability- she kept me guessing the whole way through. I had so many scenarios running through my head, trying to piece everything together and work out what was going on. I though that aspect of the writing, and story, was really well done.
I loved Ian and Cassie, they were so easy to like and invest in. I really felt for Cassie and what she’d been through, and what she was going through!!! OMG- R.L Dunn really put her through the wringer. And then there’s Ian- his protective Alpha hotness was swoon-worthy. I also love Kieran, and Monique, Lil and Declan, Luke and Rachel…. And Hunter, such a sexy man- I’d sure like to know more about him!
The story was meticulously researched, or the author has experience in the field- with all the medical terminology, equipment, and medications that were used in the story, as well as the security lingo and weaponry etc. The story was detailed and vividly descriptive.
The only issue I had, was that there are a LOT of characters in the story- I counted over 130 NAMED characters- which was a lot to keep track of! I didn’t think they all required naming, especially passers-by on the street/hallway, or the nurse at her station etc- especially since many don’t any play a further part in the story. It just was a lot to take in- I like to remember names and places during a story, especially when I’m trying to piece everything together, like in this book- so I found the ‘extra names’ a little ‘messy’ to the overall tight plot-lines. This didn’t detract too much from the storyline, but it was a little distracting, and at times, confusing.

Secure Again (Book #2)

4 Stars

Secure Again is the second book in the Chase Security series by R.L Dunn. It is a second chance romance- with suspense, intrigue, mystery, danger, hidden agendas, chemistry, and high stakes.
Dr. Elizabeth Reed is a surgeon who has noticed a number of disturbing injuries stemming from the local prison. She is determined to find out what is going on.
Martin Bailey is the CEO of Chase Security International- is drawn into the mystery through his brother (a police officer) and the investigation he was conducting. But Martin and Elizabeth also have a past relationship- and soon old feelings are bubble to the surface, adding to the already charged situation. With a complicated web to untangle, there is no time to spare if they are to figure it all out before anyone else dies.
There was a lot going on and a lot of characters to keep track of, too. Making for an intense read.
Bring on Book #3!

Secure Her (Book #3)

4 Stars

Secure Heart is the third book in the Chase Security series by R.L Dunn. It is a bit of a romantic suspense, with second chances, danger, stalking, drama, emotion, chemistry, spice, and plenty of character growth.
I am really having trouble picking my favourite from out of this series (so far)- as each book is quite riveting. Again, as with the previous books, there is a lot going on in the book- and I liked the fresh feel to the storyline- as well as having a lot of characters to keep track of- which all the series books seem to have, and is a characteristic I now associate with R.L Dunn’s work. It definitely adds extra interest to the story.
I loved Holly, and Sadie. They’re such great characters- and I loved the extra emotive quality that Sadie brought to the overall storyline. Julian is just as smooth as I would have expected, being a Chase Security team member, not to mention former Navy SEAL- and it was great to tag along for the ride, and really ‘get to know him’.
The story is really well developed, with palpable tension and suspense woven throughout the storyline. The emotional component was both heartaching, and at times very touching.
This was a really engaging and enjoyable read!

Looking forward to the next book and continuing this fantastic series!

Thank you, R.L Dunn!
