Heartbeats and Roses: A Small Town Valentine’s Day Romance by Jae Dawson is the second story in A Hartwood Holiday Romance series. This can be read as a standalone story and enjoyed without the first book. The story has romance, second chances, and more to it. I liked the idea of someone going back home and there being a continuation of their story but also the idea of new beginnings. This hit well because of the theme of Valentine’s day and gave me a little jolt of love and romance. I like the characters and wanted the best for them. I look forward to reading more in this series and from the author in the future.
Moonlight and Belladonna: A Small Town Halloween Romance by Jae Dawson is the first in A Hartwood Holiday Romance. Let me start with I love that the primary character is named Belladonna. This is a cute Halloween story of a high school teacher struggling with a high school musical when a chance encounter changes all of that. The story is sweet with a romance in a small town. I enjoyed the story and the writing. I am looking forward to reading more in this series set in holiday scenarios and from this author in the future.

Murder at Lolly Beach by Jane Suen is the second book in An Eve Sawyer Mystery series. This can be read and completely enjoyed as a standalone story. This is a fairly quick read that I did not want to put down. Eve thinks she is getting away from all the craziness of school but in turn, finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery while on her break. I enjoy the character of Eve and how she wants to help and get to the bottom of what is happening to the people at the beach. There are some twists and turns to keep the reader’s attention as well as a bit of a bubbling romance. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I look forward to more from this series and the author in the future.

Dance of Hearts: a Cinderella Regency Romance Retelling (Historical Fantasy Fairytale Retellings Book 1) by Bryd Nash is a wonderful retelling of a classic fairy tale. Set during the Regency period there are echoes of Jane Austen and other writers of the period. This is a short, quick read and suitable for teens and older. Though everyone is familiar with the story of Cinderella it is always nice to read a new take on a classic. I flew through this book in no time but completely enjoyed my time with it. I have read other books by this author and this did not disappoint. Wonderful characters, setting, and a happily ever after what more can I ask for in a book. I look forward to reading the next in the series and more from this author in the future.

Echoes: Lucifer and the Dark Goddess by Nikki Broadwell is the first in a new series. This is a good read that kept me interested from beginning to end. There are paranormal elements, dystopian, and more to the story. The main character Feirin is more than what one first thinks when she is introduced. I think this story leaves the reader wanting to know more and wanting to read the next book in the series. I enjoyed the character and world-building of the story. I really enjoyed the mysterious elements of the story. This is not my first time reading this author and I have always enjoyed her work. I look forward to more in this series and more from the author in the future.

THE GRACEFUL GHOST: A story for girls rich with authentic ballet school detail and sparkling with ghostly mischief by Eleanor Dixon is a delightful story for all ages. I am always on the lookout for stories to share with my niece and this fits the bill perfectly. The story gives a good example of strength and courage through the actions of the characters. Also, the main character being a ghost in a building that has become a ballet school. I really enjoyed the story and the message and will keep an eye out for more books from this author.
Hell Hath No Fury by Naomi Valkyrie is the second book in the Life Is Hell series. I am really glad to get my hands on this second book in this new series. Again this is a quick read but not lacking in any way in a story or character development. I really enjoy the paranormal elements of the story and the different relationships. I also am glad that the sexual elements are not overdone. The relationships are fun and varied. I look forward to seeing how the other books in the series pan out and develop the different characters. I really enjoy this author and books and look forward to more in the future. This is a quick read and a great way to find a must-read.

The Singer and Her Song by N.L. Holmes is the second book in the Empire at Twilight Book series. This series has been quite enjoyable and this second part of the series did not let me down. The author has built a wonderful historical fiction which incorporates the court of Ugarit. There is so much involved and the characters help bring this period to life. I really enjoyed how the story progressed and I really liked the story of Uqnitum and her daughter. Uqnitum dealt with so many challenges in her life and kept trying to find sanctuary. This had me reading just to find out what was going to happen. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Flipping the Bird: A Paranormal Chick Lit Novel by Carrie Pulkinen is from the new series Shift Creek. This book is a delightfully entertaining paranormal read. I flew through the adventures of crow shifter, Alice Crawford and warlock, Donovan Drake as they try to save Shift Creek’s waterway. I always enjoy the books of this author. She always has some humour to go along with her realistic characters. Alice is funny but well-meaning. She just wants to save the community she loves. Donovan is new to the community but he wants to find his place in the world. I look forward to reading more in this series soon and this author.

Moonlit Whisper: An Irish Romance by Amy McKinley is part of the Moonlit Destination series. This is a short read which left me wanting more of the story. The story concerns Fiona who has been asked to tutor a footballer, little does she know it is someone from her past. What will come of this reunion? This is a sweet romance with a HEA and can be read in one sitting. The best part is it can be read as a standalone story. I always enjoy a story from Amy McKinley and this certainly did not disappoint. I look forward to my next read from this great author.
Corporate Christmas by Bernadette Marie is a romantic Christmas story. This is a quick read which I went through in one sitting but nice because I wasn’t tied for days with a book. The story follows hardworking Chloe Richardson who has been overworking in order to bring in a prime client and land the new promotion. She has given up cherished family time and more for her job. When she is overlooked for the promotion for the new Jason Mitchell what does she do? I love that the character of Chloe is realistic and hardworking. She wants to be the best she can be and sometimes we are handed some crappy hurdles. I enjoyed how Jason handles his new position and finds a way to incorporate Chloe into his work. This is a sweet, romance between two people who are trying to make the best of their life. I really enjoyed this author and look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Bake Believe by Cori Cooper is a sweet read. I am always on the lookout for a cute book for my niece to read and this fits the bill. Cat Anderson is your normal middle-schooler ready for her first day of school. When her schedule goes array what does a young lady do? I love the realistic depiction of Cat and her friends. Also, how the author focused on things that would be dramatic to this age group. I really enjoyed this sweet adventure that had me wanting to try the recipes mentioned. I look forward to passing this on to my niece for her reading enjoyment. I look forward to reading and discovering more from Cori Cooper in the future.

Santa Got Run Over by a Vampire by Carrie Pulkinen is the fourth book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. These can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading at least book 1 before delving into this book. This is a delightfully fun quick read. This entire series is light, paranormal reading set in the perfect setting of New Orleans. I really have enjoyed Jane in the past but this gave a new insight into her and her marriage to Ethan. Also, one would ask how Santa Claus could fit into the story, but seriously you need to read this to find out. This is full of laughs and great characters. A definite getaway from this cruddy year. I look forward to more in this series and from this author in the future.

Eye of Death by Alexander Charalambides is the third book in the Vampire State series. Let me warn you to read these in order because the story does carry from one to the other and honestly, you don’t want to miss out on a great series. This book is even better than the last and I tore through it. As conditions have changed in Sanguinia life has changed for Rowena. In this book, there is a new romantic interest for her, but nothing is ever as simple as that. I really have enjoyed seeing the plot grow and change in this series and they always leave me wanting more. This is a great series of books if you enjoy paranormal, mystery, romance, and lots of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. I look forward to reading more from Charalambides in the future.

Secure Boxed Set: Chase Security Series by R.L. Dunn includes books 1-3 in a single package. The books included are Secure Desire, Secure Again, and Secure Heart. I always enjoy seeing a box set available from a good author. If you enjoy one from a series you will most likely enjoy reading more from the series. These are all good books and I enjoyed them all. Secure Desire: I was drawn in because Cassiopeia, the main female character, has a history of being an art historian. Also, what a fantastic name. Ian is at the head of a private security firm after serving in Afghanistan. The two had met years before and have been brought back together. Ian will do anything to protect Cassiopeia. I was reading to find out how an art historian had gotten herself into so much danger. I really enjoyed the story and the characters and hope to see more of them in future books. This has a little bit of something for anyone who likes a good suspense book. Secure Again: This is a continuation of the first book, so I highly recommend reading book one in the series first. This story focuses on Dr. Elizabeth Reed, who notices a mysterious medical issue at the jail, and Martin Bailey, CEO of Chase Security International, who has his own investigations ongoing. This is a good story that is full of suspense, mystery, and romance. I was drawn into the story and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going on for Dr. Reed and Martin’s cases. I liked there were separate stories, but they intertwined. Secure Heart: This book focuses on Julian Dupart, the new head of the San Diego branch, and Holly Dupree Morrison. These stories have thrills, mystery, romance, and more to them. I have enjoyed how the series draws the attention to a different couple in each story, while you still get to see the ones from past books. I really enjoyed the character of Holly and how she will fight for her daughter no matter the danger.

Love Heels!: The TV news business can be murder by Lynne Russell is the third book in the PJ Santini Series. So glad to get another PJ Santini book. This series is full of laughs, groans, and twists and turns. PJ is a sassy and smart woman with a great cast of supporting characters. This series is always a quick read for me because I am caught up in the story and this was no exception. PJ is one the case again and always gives it her all, but sometimes and often things do not go as planned. I love how she means well and enjoy where her mind wanders as she thinks through everything going on. This is a fun getaway to what has been 2020 and I’m glad this is one of the books I’m finishing the year out with. If you are looking for fun, read with great characters you have to pick up this book and series. I look forward to reading more from Lynne Russell in the future and hopefully reading more PJ Santini books.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink is an emotional reading. Be forewarned there is a trigger warning concerning domestic violence. The story deals with domestic violence and how we do not really know what goes on behind closed doors. What might appear to be a fantasy, fairy tale life might actually be a horror-filled life. The book focuses on the characters Gianna and Derek. I enjoyed getting a different POV because it tells so much more about the story. This book is well written and the story and characters are thought out and engaging. I did not want to put it down because the characters had so much at stake. This is an engrossing story and handles a difficult subject beautifully. There is so much to say just about the title which speaks to the actual story. I look forward to reading more from this author in the near future.
Lies That Bind by Valerie Davisson is the sixth book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series. This series gets better with each and every book drawing me in further to Logan’s life. This can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading them in order. The main focus of each book is individual but there are many underlying storylines and the growth of the characters which really makes this better read in order. This time Logan is meeting her half-sister, Olivia whom she just found out about. Also, Logan is making big changes in her own life. Will Logan be able to balance everything? On top of her personal life, she is drawn into another death, possibly murder. The victim’s family has a lot of secrets and has Logan looking at all angles. I really enjoy this series and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Fake Fiance by Amy McKinley is from the Second Chance Office Romance Series. This is a fun, enjoyable read. The story follows Adeline Rossi has started her dream job working for a business magnate, Stone Crenshaw. I really enjoyed the character of Adeline and was rooting for her with all the changes she was experiencing in her life. She is brave and interesting. I didn’t like Stone at first but he wore me down once he showed his non-business side. This is a getaway romance and I was excited to read another by Amy McKinley. Her books are always a great getaway. I always look forward to reading books from her and look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

The Devil’s Day by Megan Mackie is the third book in the Lucky Devil series. I highly recommend this book but first, insist you read the other books in the series first. The primary storyline continues throughout the books and I feel you would miss out on a ton of great stuff without reading the series in order. Rune Leveau has a new challenge on her hands and St. Benedict, cyber-spy, is by her side to help her try to get her way through. There is some romantic tension between these two characters but neither is wanting to act upon it, there is just too much at stake. If you like adventure, a futuristic setting, with twists and turns I think you will really enjoy this series. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future with great anticipation.

The North Wind Descends by NL Holmes is the fourth book in the Lord Hani mysteries series. Hani is once more thrown into political intrigue and might bring his teenage daughter into the political fold. This series gets better with each and every book. I do recommend reading the series in order because the books do build on each other especially concerning the character development but most importantly all the inner workings and politics Hani is faced throughout his life. I really enjoy all the political twists and turns and the historical element of the story. I have read other books in the same region but not during the time. I really look forward to reading more from this series and from this author in the future.

City Without a Sun by Alexander Charalambides is the second book in the Vampire State Series. I recommend reading the books in order because the story is building throughout the series. This is an action and mystery packed adventure. The characters are great and the development through the series has been wonderful. I am really enjoying reading about Rowena and the path she is taking. This book kept me up late because I just had to see how it would end. I really enjoy how the author is taking the vampire story and making it his own. I look forward to reading more in this series and from this author in the future.

Scepter of Flint by NL Holmes is the third book in The Lord Hani Mysteries. I recommend reading this series in order because the characters have grown through the series. Lord Hani is back and mystery is afoot. There are tomb robberies and mysterious deaths for him to figure out. I really appreciate the time and research the author has put into this book and the others in the series. This is a fantastic story full of mystery and historical fiction. I have enjoyed this series and it keeps getting better. I look forward to reading more in this great series and seeing where the mysteries of Lord Hani go next. I will be grabbing more from this author in the near future.

No Rest For The Wicked by Naomi Valkyrie is the first book in the new series Life is Hell. We are introduced to the demon Delilah Hawthorne, a bar owner, who thinks things will improve if she gets away. Little does she know that a new town might be not as restful as planned. I have really enjoyed other books by this author but I am hooked on this series. Delilah and the other characters have left me wanting more. I read this fairly quickly because it was hard to put down. Ms. Valkyrie sets the characters and world-building apart by making them smart and interesting to the reader. It is rare for me to leave a book and ready to dive into the next in the series, but this is what has happened with this book. I look forward to reading more from this author and series soon.

Safe Harbor by Valerie Davisson is the fifth book in the Logan McKenna series. Logan rarely gets a restful moment in her complicated life and this time is no exception. The first family vacation in years brings lots of drama, mystery, and revelations to everyone. I always enjoy how Logan works everything out and figures out the actual facts of the case. This book was no exception. Logan is smart, dedicated, and brings a unique look to what is presented to her. I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed the entire series and look forward to learning more about Logan and those important to her. Shattered Snow by Rachel Huffmire is the first book in The Mirror Chronicles series. I always enjoy reading an author’s new take on a classic story but this was far above what I expected. This is a new imagining of Snow White which includes the poisoned apple, huntsman, and other known characters but stirs it up with time travel with historical references. I really enjoyed the characters and how this was a well-blended mix of different genres. I can see all ages from teen to adult enjoying this book. Also, it tones down the romance to allow other elements of the story to come forward. What a wonderful start to a series. I look forward to reading more from this author soon.

A Beach Wedding to Die For by Judy Moore is the second book in the Cozy Mysteries to Die For series. The book takes place in Manatee Beach, Florida and we get to see Beck back in action solving a mystery. This is a delightful book to get away from all the stress of the world. Beck is a determined and smart young lady who likes to keep the local police detective on his toes while murder is being solved. I love the small-town setting and that Beck with her younger sister and grandma owns the local bookstore. The characters which repeat from story to story help guide the setting and the mood while a mystery is underfoot. I’m not going to say much about the story because I would hate to give anything away. Just know that if you are needing a quick, light getaway this is a fun read and growing series. I look forward to more mystery-solving with Beck in the future.

The History of the Universe: As My Soul and I Remember by Stuart Ledwith, Ph.D. is an interesting and thought-provoking read. This book is not normally something I would pick up but I thought it sounded and looked interesting. Dr. Ledwith has put a lot of thought into this conception of the formation and history of the universe. I appreciate the work he put into this work. He brought up a lot of different ideas concerning the formation and length of spirit which I thought was interesting. At times I felt that I could not get behind the work but again I can enjoy the overall book and questions it brought up.

Tompkin’s School: For the Resurrected by Tabi Slick is the third book in A Supernatural Academy Trilogy. I highly recommend reading the other books in the series first. This book ends the series on a high note and allows the reader one final challenge with Izara and Kain. I have enjoyed this series and have recommended it to some younger readers. This has action, adventure, fantasy, mystery, and paranormal. The characters have developed over the series and I am sorry to see them go. When I have picked up one of the books it is hard to put down, but this was the hardest. I had to read from beginning to end as quickly as I could to see how everything would tie together. I look forward to reading more from this author in the near future.

Age of Druids by Christy Nicholas is the ninth book in The Druid’s Brooch series. These can be read as standalone books and enjoyed but I think they are better in order. This book tells the story of Clíodhna. She doesn’t have an easy life with three children and a husband that has gone missing. Often tested to choose between improving her life and possibly giving up her children Clíodhna makes difficult decisions. It took me a bit to get into her character because of some of her choices, but I gradually understood what she was trying to accomplish. This is a wonderful book and series full of enchantment, mystery, and more. I am sad to see this series end but I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
