The Runaround : A Single Dad Romantic Comedy ( Carolina Connection Book 6) by Sylvia Stewart – Review by Heather Bass

The Runaround (Carolina Connections #6)The Runaround by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read a few books from this author and she always continues to surprise me. I love a good single dad Romcom but this book exceeded all my expectations. This is the sixth book of the Carolina Connection series. This story can be read as a stand alone but there are previous characters in this story as well. I was so excited when I got this book. I could not stop once I started the book. It only took my a few hours to devour this incredible book.

Ari is a very talented woman that is ready for the big time. She is working two jobs just to make sure her dreams will come true. Ari has always dated the wrong type of guys until she meets the handsome Jax Crosby. She has been watching him for a while. Ari doesn’t want to get into a relationship right now. She was shocked to find out that she will be helping his daughter out with singing lessons. Ari can’t say no because that’s more money in her pocket. She slowly gets to know Jax and there is something there but what could it be. Is Ari ready to risk her dream for another one she doesn’t even know about?

What an phenomenal storyline that had me in fits of laughter I love nothing more then a story that has me laughing and smiling throughout. I shouldn’t of been surprised how brilliant this novel was as I’ve read many novels from her before and everyone has been brilliant I think I do have a soft spot for this story though. I loved each and every one of the character’s and I would absolutely recommend this read.

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections, #5)The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the “Carolina Connections” series and can absolutely be read as a stand-alone.

As with the other stories in this series, THE WAY YOU ARE is a classic rom-com. The story has a great group of friends, romance, new beginnings, and a dog that is almost bigger than the MC.

This is a quick story with a smart woman, a not “classically alpha guy”, a couple of ball players, and a character who (like me) is obsessed with Olivia Newton John.

I absolutely recommend this author, this books and this series.

This was a sweet and hilarious romance. I could not put this book down. I loved both Brett and Liv’s characters. This book can also be read as a standalone. From friend zone to crush, mixed in with a little baseball, the two have their own battles to handle a long the way. The storyline was easy to follow and I loved that Liv was a vet. Brett’s personality was awesome. He reminds me a lot of my husband. Excellent novel!

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections #5)

4 Stars

The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart is the fifth installment of The Carolina Connections series. This story is a romantic comedy about Liv and Brett. Liv is not only beautiful, she smart and her boyfriend is a local baseball player. She meets Brett at one of the local baseball games her boyfriend and cousin was playing. Brett is handsome and always placed on the “friend zone,” girls always see him as great friend. As the saying goes, girls can’t be friends with boys, might just backfire on Liv and Brett. Will the opportunity arise for these two to finally hook up? Sylvie Stewart writes a seamless storyline that captures you attention from the beginning, from the chapter titles to the sarcasm. Characters are well developed and easy to hate or love, depending who they are in the story. I have read other books from this series and I enjoyed reading this installment. I recommend reading from the first book to learn more about each of the characters that are represented in each book.

Five Stars

The Way You Are is the fifth book in The Carolina Connections series by Sylvie Stewart. This book can be read as a standalone, but I don’t have one reason why you would want to skip the first four. They are all excellent reads with all the feels, and this story is no exception. This book had me hooked from the very first page and I stayed up half the night finishing it (definitely worth losing sleep over). This book features Liz and Brett’s story. It is witty and sweet, heartwarming and heartbreaking at time. I’m totally drawn to these characters and Ms. Stewart really makes you feel like you are right there with them. I love it when a book makes me laugh out loud or reach for a tissue and this book fitthat requirement. This is my favorite of the series so far, and I really can’t wait to see what Sylvie Stewart will dream up for us next.

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections #5) by Sylvie Stewart

5 out of 5 stars

The Way You Are is the fifth book in the Carolina Connections written by Sylvie Stewart and I have read every book in this series and I loved them. Ms. Stewarts writing just gets better with each story/book. The characters are crazy but fun crazy that feed of the crazy. They are well developed and we even get to see our favorite couples from the first few books.
Brett MacKinnon, is a nice guy and a frequent resident of the friend zone. He has terrible taste in woman. So when Brett hears this tiny little girl with the booming voice he goes and talks to her. He is determined to ditch the friend zone and show her he is boyfriend material. Too bad the position’s already been filled by a ball-playing caveman who could flatten him with his pinky.
LIV: There are really only three things she needs in life: sex, baseball, and winning. Her hot boyfriend and season tickets take care of the first two, while she always do her best to cover the last. So developing an unexpected crush on a new friend is more than a little inconvenient. She doesn’t have anything but friendship to offer Brett, but with the way he looks at her, and makes her feel things he has her wishing she did.
BRETT: Has been put in the friend zone so often, they’ve got a sandwich named after him. You’d think he’d be used to it by now. But when it comes to the delectable Liv and he will pull out all the stops to show her he is the guy for her.
Can Brett get out of the friend zone what will it take for Liv to see him more than a friend? You will have to read this great book to find out.
I highly recommend this book/series…

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections, #5)The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Way You Are is book 5 in the Carolina Connections series by Sylvie Stewart. My first read by this author, and what a merry dance I was led on. A refreshing change from the dark and twisted stories I love so much.

Brett MacKinnon always comes in second best, which delegates him to the friend zone. He has this charismatic personality that just makes him too sweet and the ladies just don’t take him seriously. To go after his lady love, he needs to toughen up, take charge, or risk getting left behind.

Liv is a feisty little lover of sport. A very strong personality does she possess, and she is not afraid to go after what she wants, that is of she really knows what she wants. She was hilarious and a true pleasure to get to know.

The Way You Are was brilliantly written, engaging, arresting, riveting. A storyline that draws you in immediately, and the ending comes far too quickly. A charismatic cast that will undoubtedly entertain anyone who picks it up and reads it. A fantastic 5 star story.

I loved this book and will now be reading from book 1, as this is book 5. It can bw read as a standalone, but I just want to know more about this group!
Brett was so great but the poor guy gets friend zoned, often from what it seems like. And when he meets the perfect girl at a baseball game, they hit it off, until she says who she is there for. Can he get out of the friend zone?
Liv is a tell it like it is, feisty woman. I really loved getting to know her and the crazy of her life.
These two were great with a great group of friends along the way too!

How enjoyable is this story!! I loved it! The witty banter, the secret longing and the sexy beard…all good reasons to devour this book! Olivia is a hoot! She sure has a mouth on her! She cracked me up at the games! Brett seems like not the type of guy she would go for. His outward appearance might have people shy away or look down on him. But I side he is a golden boy! He has this great big heart. We get to see and spend some time with Gavin and Emerson. They really help the story move forward as does Haley, who is Olivia’s best friend.

This isn’t my first book by this author. I have read all of the others in this series. They all have a little fun, some sexy men and strong sassy women. I love reading this series and look forward to the next one!!

  • The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart is the fifth book in the Carolina Connections series. This book can be read as a stand-alone even though characters from the previous books do pop up here and there.
For me this was the first book I have read in this series and I am now questioning why. This book is brilliant. It kept me thoroughly entertained throughout. I was laughing my way through at these characters. And I think part of that was because of how relatable I found them to be. Not only was it easy to imagine these characters and their troubles but it was easy to imagine yourself in their position, experiencing exactly what they were going through.
The author really pulls you into the story and helps you to become a full part of it: I cannot recommend this book highly enough and I am going straight back to start again at book 1!View all my reviews

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections, #5)The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart

The Way You Are is the fifth book in the Carolina Connections series by Sylvie Stewart. This is is a fun, light-hearted and fabulous contemporary romance/ romantic comedy/friends to lovers’ story with a slow-burning romance, steamy moments, and a wonderful cast of characters. Even though it is the fourth in a series, it could be read as a standalone. But I expect that after reading this book, you will probably go back to read the other books in the series as well.
Olivia and Brett meet unexpectedly, and get along immediately. Brett is smitten, and would love to have a chance with Liv- but she has a boyfriend and he is relegated to the ‘friend-zone’- a place he is all too familiar with. What happens you ask? Well, I really recommend reading all the hilarious details for yourself and discover if Brett finally makes it out of the friend zone.
This is a sweet, steamy, funny and very entertaining story. It has a great pace and a smooth flow. I read it in an afternoon. A really fun read!

Thank you, Ms. Stewart!

The Way You Are (Carolina Connections, Book 5)The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Way You Are is the fifth book in Sylvie Stewart’s Carolina Connections series! I have read every single story in the series and I have loved every single one of them! You can read the story as a standalone BUT I would recommend taking it from the beginning as you meet the rest of the gang and understand some of the back story.
Sylvie is a fantastic story teller and pulls you in from page one! The sense of humour and the care she takes of her characters … oh my! I was so happy to see that finally we have another story in the series AND I giggled a bit when I saw that she is planning at least couple of more!
The Way You Are is the story of Brett, the eternal nice guy (we have met him before, he is Gavin’s best friend), and Liv, a diehard baseball fan veterinarian. What do you think you will get when you throw together essentially a nice guy and a smart and loyal girl who is not a good judge of character and who also has a boyfriend? They start off in the ‘friend zone’ and yeah, it is sort of a slow burn but oh my when it finally catches fire, it burns hot! And as I said previously, I was great to see all the other old friends from the previous stories and I cannot wait to see what Sylvie as in store for Ari and Jax and Haley …

The Way You Are (Carolina Connections, Book 5)The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart is the fifth book in the Carolina Connections series. This is a great series and can be read individually. The characters recur and it is great to see the progression of them. This tells the story of Brett. He is good with the ladies if being in the friend zone is considered good. Liv is a baseball fan and a smart woman who is a vet. Can Brett get and stay out of the friend zone? He is so cute when he is interacting with Liv.
I have enjoyed this entire series because the characters have their own personal issues and stories to tell. No one is depicted as perfect and no relationship is perfect. Everyone has their ups and downs. The characters are well written and the dialogue is great. The stories alternate between POV which is great giving insight to both primary characters. I look forward to reading books in this series and hope you enjoy it also.

5 out of 5 stars

The story The Way You Are (Carolina Connections Book 5) by Sylvie Stewart is a wonderful romance book that I loved reading. I have loved this series ever since reading the first book and am excited when a new story in the series comes out. In this book, I enjoyed reading about the characters of Liv and Brett. Liv is a woman who is smart and beautiful. She can also be fiery when she speaks. A friend is what she calls Brett. She then begins to realize she has a crush on him. Brett is used to the friend zone. However, being friends with Liv is sometimes a problem with the thoughts and feelings that he has for her. Oh, and the other problem is Liv’s current boyfriend. Will Brett be able to get Liv to take him out of the friend-zone? What does the future hold for Brett and Liv? Read this story to find out. Brett and Liv are characters that I grew to love with each chapter of the book I read. I found that I was rooting for them to find happiness. The characters show many different emotions throughout the story and I found myself feeling what they did. I also enjoyed reading about some of the additional characters that interact with Brett and Liv. This is a book that I found I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page. Don’t miss out on the next exciting story in the Carolina Connections series.

The Spark (The Carolina Connections, #2) by Sylvie Stewart – Review by Sheri Schrader

The Spark (The Carolina Connections #2)The Spark by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Spark by Sylvie Stewart is the second book in the Carolina Connections Series. This is a standalone book but is better enjoyed after reading the first book, since characters are introduced in the first book. The story is about the fun, vivacious Fiona Pierce and the known manwhore Mark Beckett. Fiona is spunky, fashionable, and a force of one. She is a great friend, daughter, and an ok employee, but something is always lingering in the back of her mind. Mark is a great son, brother, employee, but does not have any complications in his relationships. The two are brought into a situation that will take a bunch of willpower not to kill one another but for the greater good of helping someone close to Mark. Will there be a spark between the two?
Fiona is fantastic. She has a mouth that does not know when to stay shut but she is devoted to those close to her. Mark is incredibly sexy and does not know how to deal with “shortcake” aka Fiona. I enjoyed the playful verbal sparring between the two characters and the interactions between all the characters. I was happy to read this after enjoying the first book so much already. The story is fun and flirtatious and was a quick read. The characters are well described and become a life of their own. I was anxious to see if they could overcome their personal obstacles. I now look forward to reading the third book in the series.

The Lucky One (Carolina Connections # 3)The Lucky One by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Lucky One by Sylvie Stewart is the third book in the Carolina Connections Series. I was anxious to get to this book since I enjoyed the first two so much. For those who have not read the first two, great news this is a standalone book also. I recommend reading the others so that you have some history with the characters but that is not necessary to enjoy the book. This story is about Bailey and Jake. Bailey is beautiful but is very much a tomboy. She works for her family’s construction business. She holds her own against men and find that she can relate to them well. Jake has just made his way back to his hometown. He is into landscaping but that is not how the two meet. At a wedding, Bailey’s brother’s to be exact, she is feeling very womanly in a dress and heals. She catches the attention of Jake and the story takes off from there.
This is a HEA story like the others in the series but despite the predictable ending is fun to enjoy the ride. The characters are fun but realistic. Bailey is against “girly” things but realizes that she also can enjoy being a bit girly at times. Jake is fun and a challenge against everything Bailey thought she knew. The story reminds us that you never know where your someone special will be. It could be someone you know or someone new. We just have to let our guard down and enjoy the journey.

The Fix (The Carolina Connections #1) by Sylvie Stewart – Review by Sheri Schrader

The Fix (The Carolina Connections #1)The Fix by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Fix by Sylvie Stewart is the first book in the Caroline Connections series. This is a fun, romantic novel about Laney Monroe and Nate Murphy. Laney is a 25-year-old single mom trying to balance work, being a mom, and helping her immature brother. Nate has moved back to town to help at his family’s construction business. The two meet when her brother finally decides to go out and get a job. Little does Laney know that her brother getting a job would be such a great decision for her love life as well.
Laney has so much going on in her life except a love life. She is relatable on many levels. She is trying to do the best with what life has given her and be a good mom at the same time. Her brother lives with her since her parents moved out of town. He’s finally got her hints to go out and get a job. In her neighborhood, there is new construction and come to find out it is being built by her brother’s new employer. What will happen when life brings Nate and Laney together?
This is a fun, sexy novel with some great characters. The topics of how to balance family, work, and love is a such a relatable, realistic theme. This is a hard balance to find and sometimes opportunities arise when we least expect them. I enjoyed that the characters had to make decisions that were real and can have a long-term effect on themselves and others in their lives. I am looking forward to reading the second novel by the author.

The Spark (The Carolina Connections #2)The Spark by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Spark by Ms Stewart is the second book in her Carolina Connections series but you can totally read it as a standalone. I loved the first book and I was looking forward to Fiona and Mark’s story and Ms Stewart did not disappoint me! It was a fun and fast-paced 384 pages!
I know, I know, Ms Stewart plays on the age old stereotypes of ‘opposites attract’ and ‘the man-whore will settle down when he meets the right girl’ and ‘the blondes are ditzy’ but the story was far far from the stereotypes when you let yourself dig deeper and really go along the ride that Fiona and Mark took you on!
Both of the characters are their own type of crazy and you cannot stop laughing AND crying and swooning to yourself while reading … I simply loved the way Fiona got off into tangents when speaking and how easily she got distracted and I absolutely melted when we experienced her loving and caring ways over and over again. One really fell for Mark when getting better understanding of where he comes from. Both of the characters are forged through fire and the questions that you constantly have drumming back in your mind while reading is – will they find their way to each other, will they believe in each other, will they take a chance…
I recommend to grab a glass of wine, settle down in your reading spot and enjoy the hours you’ll spend with Mark and Fiona! I am personally looking forward to the next installment!

The Fix (The Carolina Connections #1)The Fix by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The debut novel The Fix by Sylvie Stewart is the first book in her Carolina Connections series. It is an absolute charming 300+ pages of fun with a lot of laughter! It is a perfect combination of humor and romance and you get pulled into the story even if you try to resist!
I absolutely loved the quirkiness of Laney’s life with her young son Rocco and her brother Gavin and her best friend Fiona and the Irish love interest Nate. The pace of the story is fast so you don’t even realize that it is more than 300 pages, yet you do not feel rushed. The plot feels very realistic and you can just picture this snotty mother at the day care looking down at Laney, we all have met those mothers … I love how Nate finds his way into Laney’s life and forms a relationship with Rocco.
Very often wit romantic books you get a lot of drama and sobbing and hurt feelings but here, you get witty dialogue and funny misunderstandings while still feeling that it is all real and you could just bump into the characters down the street! The author has a very vivid imagination and a way with words, just wait until you ‘hear’ Rocco’s songs or Fiona’s ‘unintended’ double entendres.
I am looking forward to the second book of Carolina Connections and I totally recommend this first book to anyone who is looking for a good laugh, some steamy moments and real emotions!
