I love a period piece of any kind but The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham , was especially good. Any mystery story is a good mystery but this one really had my mind in a tangle. It seems a little slow at first, and I wasn’t quite sure it was a mystery. Trust me what I perceived as a slow-moving story was the authors skillful craft of laying the foundation for everything that follows. Foundation is key, and it almost slipped my mind once I got into the story and believe me you get in deep. Many moving parts to this story and it was greatly entertaining. The most pleasant part was the many surprises. This is a tale that is well worth your time. I can’t think of enough good things to say about this one without sounding like I am gushing.

The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham was a great read! I loved how the setting of this story was in an older time period, it’s so rare to find books like that these days. Since it was in that timeline though, I found the novel to be a little confusing at first, simply because of all the characters and it took a while for them and the background of the story to build up. But overall, this was a very thrilling, enthralling read. This is the first novel I’ve read from this author before, and I was very impressed with it. I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future!

While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you go read A Divided Mind first. That is where you are introduced to the characters and it is definitely worth a read. Okay…now…the emotional level of this book is set on high. I cried numerous times during this book and had to walk away a couple of times to compose myself and calm down before returning. This book, once again, focuses on mental illness and it just feels so real. I am going to try to review this book without giving anything away because, like the last book, it should be read with no spoilers and with an open mind. Branson and Aaron are now in college. We are introduced to a third twin, David. David exists in the mind of one of the twins. When their mom gets sick, David starts to make himself more known and things get crazy. There is a lot going on in this story…and I honestly don’t want to give anything away. If you’re like me, you will get sucked into this story and find yourself questioning what you thought was happening as the book goes on. It is a story that will stay with you long after you set the book down.

Shattered by Valerie Davisson is the first book in this series and brings us into the world of Logan pretty quick. This book is a thriller and book took me a while to get into through all the backwards and forwards in timelines and people but overall was a good read and a well developed story.
The character of Logan did grate on me somewhat and at times I was a little lost as too her true purpose in her sleuthing but the overall who done it was good. The story had its twists and turns with the red herrings dotted throughout the plot and I did kinda have an idea of the murder by midway through the book but reading the way the author unraveled the story was brilliant.
I would recommend this book, it’s a page turner and does make you think. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Shattered: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book is the first in the Logan McKenna series by Valerie Davisson. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Davisson, but definitely won’t be the last. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. I love a good mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. I love even more a strong female character that can hold her own. This book really fits these issues. Logan is a strong character and very relatable. As she digs in to finding a murderer and keeping her friend out of jail, she finds herself delving into the world of glass working. If you like a good mystery with a fast pace, this is the story for you. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

Valerie Davisson did an amazing job with this thriller. Her plot line kept me on edge of my seat. There a couple times that I was caught off guard because I did not see it coming. The characters were complex and active throughout the book. I personally kept turning the pages faster and faster because I could not wait to see what was coming next. The one thing I really liked about this story is the main character, Logan is a woman. I enjoyed the story more because Logan was the one to try to solve this murder. Will she be successful? You will have to read the story to find out. I am ready for book 2.

The Trouble With Paradise is the 4th book in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery series by Cynthia Hamilton. Each book can be read as a standalone but in my opinion I think you’d get more from the series if you read it all from the beginning and in order. This is a fantastic mystery series that will keep you on the edge of your seat. As much as I loved the first book in this series, I think it gets better and better as it goes on and we get to spend more time in the company of Madeline Dawkins and her partner Mike Delaney. Just reading the blurb, I was already hooked and that was before I even started reading – Two dead husbands – Accident, Suicide or Murder? Yet again Cynthia Hamilton had written an intricate storyline with so many twists and turns that you can’t put this book down. I absolutely loved this book. The two cases that Madeline and Mike are working on are full of mystery, danger and intrigue and are highly entertaining. I was totally absorbed by both cases and couldn’t wait to see how they unravelled. Madeline and Mike are both amazing characters. I could read their exploits for hours on end. I can’t wait to read more in this series.

Shattered: a Logan McKenna Mystery Book 1 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson. I loved this book because its my favorite genre but also because the book was just really good. Its the story of Logan McKenna who is trying to get her feet back under her after her husband has passed away and her daughter has gone off on an adventure. She has bought a new house and things seem to be getting back to a new normal until one of her good friends is accused of murder. She had offered to help her friend Thomas Delgado at their Glass Blowing booth at a festival. Things are going great until a body turns up dead and Thomas is accused of murder. Logan makes it her mission to prove that Thomas is not guilty but when Thomas doesn’t want to help himself it makes it hard. Logan digs into the case and finds out all kinds of dirt and may end up getting herself killed before its all over with. This book will grab you by the seat and you won’t want to put it down until you finish. Loved it!

This is my second book by M. Billiter. I read A Divided Mind first and couldn’t put it down. This book was the same for me. However, this book had so much more emotion than the first one. I honestly had a small cry break in this book. Beautifully worded and written. In the first book you get Branson and Tara’s POV. In this book you get both twins and I am at a loss for words at how exceptional this book turned out. It is sad and heart breaking, but mental illness does not get enough explanation in the world – this book shows the truth of it. Absolute must read.

The Divided Twin (The Divided Series #2) by M. Billiter was a twisted 5 star read. I was pulled right in from the beginning and was done before I knew it.
Aaron and Branson are identical twins, one of them has been diagnosed with schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder. Both twins are at different colleges trying to move forward. Branson hasn’t had any issues for quite some time. When things take a sad turn the boys end up going back home. Their mom has fallen sick with breast cancer.
Things get even more twisted when another personality makes itself known and has some dark and twisted plans. There are so many unexpected twists and turns. I will warn that there are some scenes that may cause triggers for some. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. There is bullying, mental illness, violence and so much more. The author has done a great job with her writing and you feel like you are right there with the characters. I had chills at times and my emotions were all over the place. You can read this as a stand alone but I suggest reading book one so that you are familiar with the characters. The Trouble With Paradise is the fourth book in The Madeline Dawkins Series by Cynthia Hamilton. Madeline Dawkins is a private investigator with her partner Mike Delaney. The Santa Barbara D.A. calls up Madeline about figuring out how two men died. Unfortunately, Madeline isn’t a stranger to troubled marriages. Not only does Madeline have to worry about solving these two cases, but now her ex-husband is trying to clear the name of an inmate. I loved the way the author was able to carry out multiple storylines and how well she was able to tie them together. You’ve got two men dead, one who may have been killed by his wife and the other who may have killed himself. Then there is the storyline of Madeline’s ex-husband trying to clear Lindsay Bartholomew’s name. This is the second story I’ve read in this series and I definitely preferred Madeline in this story. I look forward to seeing what Madeline is up to in the next book.

The Divided Twin by M. Billiter with Kyle Thomas is the second book in The Divided Series. Branson is now in college and new challenges are presenting themselves to his life. I highly recommend reading the first book in this series before this one. There is so much going on in their lives which adds to the challenges the family already faces. This book is emotional and heartbreaking at times. I did not want to put it down, yet I had to because of the emotions. I really enjoyed reading this book and will be looking for more from this author in the future.

A Divided Mind by M. Billiter is the first book in The Divided Series. The story is about a teen, Branson and his struggles with the realization that his friend isn’t real. This book hits on the hard subject of mental illness but in a well handled way. The story comes from multiple POVs, including Branson, his mother, his family, and those around him. I enjoyed the way the story was handled, unlike some books I have read in the past. This is a real issue which many deal with in different ways and it was treated thoughtfully and honestly. I really enjoyed this eye-opening book and look forward to reading more from M. Billiter in the future.

Madeline’s cases continue to get even more interesting as she’s attempting to solve two which seem to be at the same time, assisting two different widows in two very different scenarios. Madeline’s ex is out of prison and needs Madeline’s own partner to help clear his name. As the two cases coincide with one another, Madeline must figure out both simultaneously. I can’t help but love Mike and Madeline’s relationship even if it is a power duo saving the world but it would be better if they become official as a couple. Just me wishful thinking on where I hope their story goes because I’ve enjoyed every book’s installment so far so this one is no exception.

The Divided Twin is book 2 in the divided series by M Billiter and Kyle Thomas. It’s not essential but in my opinion you really need to read the first book to understand and appreciate the second book, so if you haven’t already I’d recommend starting with book 1. The story picks back up with Branson and Aaron, twin brothers who are now in their final year of college. In this book we also get to meet David. David brings with him more complexities, heartbreak, but also a greater understanding of what mental health looks like to different people. In the first book we saw how Bransons illness had an effect on those all around him, and this continues throughout this book too, but David brings a whole new set of trials and frustrations for everyone. The twins mum, Tara, is diagnosed with cancer. The emotions throughout the book are very raw.
The characters in this book are very complex and believable. They suffer so much that you are keeping your fingers crossed that some happiness touches their lives. I really enjoyed this second instalment. It’s a thought provoking read and you are left thinking about it long after you have finished reading.

A Divided Mind is a fantastic story. It’s described as a thriller but I’d say it’s more of an emotional fiction novel. Either way it’s very much worth a read.
The story revolves around Branson, but you get to hear from a few different points of view. Branson is struggling with different issues. He hears voices, he doesn’t know if his friends are really there, he suffers black outs and then carries the weight of this around on his young shoulders. I really enjoyed the different points of view, obviously Branson is the main character, but you get to see how mental health doesn’t just affect the person who is actually ill, it has a ripple effect and touches everyone in the family and of course everyone copes in different ways. The story is really well written and you really get to experience what Branson is going through. There are a few surprises throughout the story and it really had me hooked from the start.

I really enjoyed this crime thriller. It is the first book in the Logan Mckenna series. The story takes a bit of time to get into with all the different characters and how the plot jumps from one place and time to another but it is definately worth sticking with it as the story is a real gripping tale.
Logan has lost everything, since her husband death she moves and closes down their business. She is helping out her friends Thomas and Lisa on their booth at a festival when she notices the glassblowers. The festival runs smoothly until a dead body turns up and the question is who has done it.
When her friend Thomas is suspected she has to work hard to find out who the killer is and if they are planning to strike again.
Its full of twists and turns that keep you guessing right to the end.

Book 4 of Madeline Dawkins series, we continue to follow Mike and Madeline who are private detectives, Madeline is recovering from being shot and comes back to work. The two find themselves with two similar cases and Madeline’s ex shows up again in this story. All in all I like this book. It answers more questions left after the last book and has a really good ending. You will enjoy reading this book and enjoy how these characters develop.

The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham. I loved this book. It’s a historical mystery set in 18th Century Scotland. It’s during a time where the Jacobites are still reeling from their loss of Culloden. Charlie Rob is not very worldly having never traveled outside of Scotland. John Leith of Leith Hall takes a liking to Charlie and sets out to make him more worldly. When Charlie goes with John to Aberdeen he is amazed and a little scared. They are put in situations Charlie is sure they won’t survive and when a murder is committed will they be able to safely find the killer. Will John and Charlie find the killer before its too late? I loved this story and I felt like I was in 18th Century Scotland trying to solve a murder.

Im a details person, I like to know a bit about where aa character is in a book but I felt, personally, there was a bit too much detail in this book. And I’m not a huge fan of back and forth in time, but again personal preference. Otherwise I enjoyed this story, and it does pick up after a bit. I will say the details I enjoyed was we knew our characters, and pretty well too. Logan felt like a real, normal person and I love that when I can feel that with a character. So in all, a good book, with a mystery woven into it.

Shattered is the first book in Valerie Davisson’s Logan McKenna series that introduces us to … well… Logan McKenna who has to rebuild her life after a tragedy that threw everything she knew about herself and her life up in the air. I think at times she feels like there is nothing there for her to fall back onto, she has to not only get a new place to live but also a new career. It was my first read by the writer and as I like a good thriller like most of us and I have been curious about Native Americans and their art then I decided to pick up a copy. The writer’s style as such was very reader friendly and it was surprising that the story didn’t pull me in as I would have expected. At times I did struggle with what time we were in and whether it was a flashback or present or … also I found it challenging to connect with Logan and the other characters. I also felt at times that the story slowed down too much and then got a jump on and rushed. This IS the first book of the series and I am open to give it another try and go and read the second book as I liked that Logan was different from other ‘investigators’ I have met. She is not young or naïve, she has learnt from the challenges the life has thrown at her and she has had to step outside of her sheltered past. I also wonder whether it was my expectations that got the best of me and I should have simply breathed in and the breathed out and gone with the flow …

This one is a struggle for me. The story has too much filler and background information. Which made it seem slow. I kept waiting and waiting for something to happen and it didn’t until about half way through the story. Logan seems like a good character but she doesn’t seem like a person who would try to solve this murder. It was interesting learning about the glassblowing and knife making.
This has some Flashbacks which I am not a fan of. Too much back and forth causes the reader(me) to become displaced and can lose interest. Sadly this story just didn’t work for me.

The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham is an interesting historical murder mystery set in early Scotland and I love Scotland and its history having visited there several times. And I can still remember the feel of Culloden and the resting place of many and this brought it all back. Historical fiction is not always my thing, but I occasionally don’t mind reading them. The story was a bit slow to start with and I found it hard at times to settle in but once I did finally did, I enjoyed the mystery and suspense that the story brings. Lexie is very detailed in her writing, so it was easy to imagine the world she has created. If you love a good mystery and a bit of history, then The Slaughter of Leith Hall is one to grab and read.

The Divided Twin The Divided Series Book 2 By M. Billiter With Kyle Thomas ☆☆☆☆☆ This is a full length novel. Packed with an emotional thriller and ends with you wanting more. In this book you will be reading about mental illness and those that live within its grips. Not for those under 118 due to adult themes.
Aaron and Branson are Identical twins. They will win you over on page one, and have you riding that rollercoaster of terror. You will meet David, and follow his journal. I can’t help but feel for these men. Both doing so much for an education, working and caring for their family. So after you read about David, is he the stone that breaks the twins up? Or is he the one to bring these troubled men together. There will be no spoilers from me. As you must read it to believe it…Don’t forget to read book 1 first. It will open book 2 and that is where you will continue.
M. Billiter and Kyle Thomas have worked on this story. M. Billiter again brings a riveting story on mental disease and PTSD. I love the characters and the strength they bring forward..The struggle is real, and this family will fight the fight. This close loving family works through the monsters in this story. Please feel free to find a quiet place to read and enjoy. Make sure to have tissue and chocolate close by. Way to go M. Billiter and Kyle Thomas (Who is new to me) This story is great. I’ll be looking for more from you!

This is my first book by M. Billiter and Kyle Thomas. I am a fan of the books that address mental illness and this one did not disappoint. I loved this book and honestly couldn’t stop reading all day! I can’t even fully explain my emotion with this book. As a mother I was bawling. As a best friend with someone who has a mental illness disorder I was gutted and felt every single word printed like a stab wound. It was beautifully written and thought out brilliantly. I absolutely recommend this book. I can’t wait for book two, I’m headed there now!
