Killer Smile by Allan Evans – Review by Ayla Phipps

Killer SmileKiller Smile by Allan Evans
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Darker and gritter. This is book two in the killer series and while I enjoyed the first book Killer Blonde this book kicked everything up a few notches. Once again, told from both sides, the detective and the killer or killers.
Picking up some time after the events of book one, Cade is back to the daily grind. Getting back to a normal day to day when he is notified of something not even, he could have predicted. A dark web page for serial killers. Not only that but they give out challenges and the newest challenge is to come to the twin city and take on Detective Cade Dawkins. When not one but two killers accept the challenge Cade’s worlds is set spinning as not only his life but the lives of those, he cares about the most are pulled into the twisted world of kill or be killed. As if that wasn’t bad enough Cade is also having to fight to keep his job when everything seems to keep going from bad to worse.
Did Cade get lucky with the killer blonde killer? Can he stop these new threats before it’s too late? How far will the killers go to “win”? Once again, the author shows their knowledge and attention to detail when it comes to the investigations and heinous crimes themselves, I feel like I am watching an episode of Criminal Minds play out on the pages and I’m searching for the clues to bring down the killer. Cade continues to evolve as the story gets more intense and he fights for all that matters to him. After racing through book one I tried to pace myself better with this one but failed epically as I was too engrossed to slow down. I had to know how it ends. I can’t wait to see what will come next and I hope to see book three in the series soon, to see what mystery Cade will overcome next.

Killer BlondeKiller Blonde by Allan Evans
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Killer suspense with an intriguing story that keeps you searching for the answers. This is the first book I have read by the interesting Allan Evans. Spooky month always needs a good mystery or two and this book put the spooks into my daily routine for the next several weeks. Dual perspectives of Cade Dawkins and the killer keep you entranced in the mystery of Killer Blonde from start to finish.
Cade Dawkins is a seasoned detective with several big wins under his belt, but nothing could have prepared him for his biggest case so far. Several beautiful blondes are seemingly killed in “car accidents” across an area but the more he investigates the victims the more questions he has. These are not accidents but staged moments to throw him off the scent of a serial killer in the area. With each new discovery he feels the hope of finally stopping the killer but then something new is discovered that keeps him looking for the connection to stop him. The killer meticulously plans every detail, making sure that nothing is given away and the nothing is what it seems. The depth and reasoning behind their actions keep you on edge as you see the game of cat and mouse play out.
Will Cade find the killer in time? How many women will fall victim before the killer is stopped? Can Cade keep his friends safe? The plot and depth of the characters kept me hooked from start to finish. Making me really think about how aware I am of my surroundings as a single female when traveling at night. The author’s ability to have such developed and well-defined polar opposites keep the reader interested in seeing how each with evolve over the course of the story and trying to figure out how it will come to an end. Truly one of my favorite authors of the month and I can’t wait to start book two in the series, Killer Smile, and see what the detective will face next.

Devil's Claw: Logan Book 3 (The Logan Series)Devil’s Claw: Logan Book 3 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Devil’s Claw is the third book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series. It is a crime thriller chock full of action, suspense, mystery, murder, intrigue, and drama. Logan McKenna’s life is going well, and she has settled into a comfortable life in her Southern California home near the beach. She has a new job and finally has plenty of time for her music. When her and her daughter rescue a baby Otter, they take it to the Southern Sea Otter Center where they nurse it back to health. Things take a sinister turn when the land the center sits on becomes the target of numerous individuals who all try lay claim to it. When someone Logan knows is murdered Logan takes it upon herself to investigate the mystery surrounding the property. She quickly finds herself swept up in a world of greed, resentment, loss, betrayals, secrets, and violence. Logan could be the next person on the killer’s hit list if she does not solve this mystery quickly enough. I loved the characters of Logan and Amy. Both are kind, smart, compassionate, and determined. The close relationship they had as mother and daughter was endearing and heartwarming. This story took some twists and turns as Logan worked to solve her latest mystery before more lives were lost. The more I read, the more intriguing the mystery became, and I was hooked until the very end. I highly recommend this series!

Forest Park is the second book in The Logan McKenna Mystery series. It is a crime thriller full of action, suspense, murder, mystery, intrigue, drama, lies, and secrets. Life for Logan McKenna is looking better, and things seem to be on track. After the rough road she experienced and all of the loss she is happy, healthy, and in a good relationship. Life seems to be coasting along until everything changes in the blink of an eye and throws her world into chaos once again. As Logan awaits the arrival of her boyfriend at their hotel room, she hears a loud boom coming from outside. When she ventures out to discover the source of the sound, she discovers an explosion occurred at the Vietnamese food truck she had been at a short time before. Logan is horrified to discover that the woman killed in the explosion was someone that she had formed a bond with. The police have suspects, two of which are her friends, but Logan feels that they are not the real killer and is determined to find the real culprits. She feels obligated to try to solve what happened and starts digging for clues only to discover there are long-buried secrets that are better left alone. Wow! This author throws tough world topics into her books. DV is in this one. This story is a definite page turner. Logan is in deep and the only witness is a 3 year old. Not all is as it seems and Logan has to get to the bottom of it. The author does a fantastic of setting up the story with suspense. She lays out the detail. There are twists and a few turns. She has rapidly become one of my favorite authors. This is another winner in my book.

This was just brilliant ! My nails are chewed to the quick 🤫🫣my blood pressure has risen , I’ve hit out in a rash and I’m so grateful for my pink hair 🤣😉😜

If you’re blonde don’t read this because your next trip will be to the salon and not the grocery store 😱😉

This killer is smart which makes him even more dangerous and he seems to know how to leave no trace but Cade is hot on his heels and this feeds our killers murder lust even more , he’s loving the challenge but the girls are his gateway to the actual prize …. Cade 😱

Seeing the victims through the eyes of the killer had me on edge and I could smell their fear I kid you not ! From the victim’s perspective I could feel their fear , Evans writing style is superb !

While I was reading I’d share bits of it with anyone who’d listen and it piqued their interest because I got asked for updates and progress #truestory#

Every killer has a certain criteria but they also make a mistake , eventually and watching Cade pit the puzzle pieces together was brilliant and I can’t wait to devour more of this mastermind and his work ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My middle child, now in her twenties, used to be obsessed with sea otters when she was little. We had to have a sea otter birthday cake, and we had to watch sea otters on the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Otter Cam several times a week! This book brings back good memories for me. The mystery is wonderfully crafted, and the family dynamics explored amongst the characters are simply amazing. I can’t wait to read more of this series!

Devil’s Claw is the third book in the Logan McKenna Series is a wonderfully written Crime/ Thriller that will have you turning the pages till the end. I’m a huge fan of this author and her style of writing along with her creative characters make for an epic story. I didn’t realize I was starting with the third book so I plan on going back and reading the first two books in this series to get me caught up with what’s been going on. There’s plenty of twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Logan is back and ready to tackle the newest murder but this one is different as its someone who’s close to her. Everyone wants the property lot 429 but at what lengths are they willing to go to get it? I’m afraid I’m going to give away to much information. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Devil’s Claw (Logan McKenna Series Book 3) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is Book 3 in the Logan McKenna Series. There are nine books totally, I plan on reading every single one of them at some point. In this one, we learn about sea otters and greed from a new person. Unfortunately for someone, they lose their life because of this greed. I am still currently reading it so I can’t give to much away. It does involve money and land, specifically the Sea Otter Rescue Land. I haven’t read many of Ms. Davisson’s books but this one seems to grab my attention especially because of the sea otters. I mean I never knew that sea otters made noise, I mean how would you know that unless you have seen/heard them up-close and personal.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an amazing trilogy, I absolutely loved everything about it. It was very easy to read, and I was able to read it very fast but that didn’t not take away on how captivating this book was. These books had a twist that I was not expecting it was creepy, scary, suspenseful, dystopian, sci-fi series and really makes you feel like it could almost be talking about us right now in the present. In this trilogy there are three women, with body image issues, that like everyone now what the quick fixes and go see Dr. Kite to fix these issues they are each facing. The books kept me on this roller coaster of a ride on what these women were going thou and how they were going to deal with their individual situations. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn’t out this book down. I would suggest not to read this out of order thou, each book continues on from the previous one. But this was an amazing captivating read.

Logan has her hands full in this one. Left a piece of property that is hot to hold by a lot of people, someone has already been murdered for it. She has to figure out who did it and who wants the property that bad. Again, I love all the detail in these mysteries. She’s trying to save sea life when this happens. There’s drama, action, suspense and a bit of romance. The writing really grabs you with this one. Those prologues just get ya and you can’t put it down. Her characters are very relatable. They really could be friends. This is a terrific mystery because you have to work to figure out who did it. She doesn’t give it to you easy.

I’m excited that Logan and Ben are giving it a go. Logan is in Portland when an explosion happens outside her hotel, and she knows the owner and the elderly lady who died. As usual, when the police go the wrong way, Logan goes the “right way” to help clear her friend’s name. I really liked this story. It gave a lot of detail. The flow is good. My favorite part is that the author includes a lot of secrets within the story that are unfolded during the mystery. There are always secrets to be found. Logan had adventures all around during this story, hers and while trying to figure out what happened to the food truck. Fantastic adventures, a lot of mystery and suspense, romance sure make for a great book.

Alterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal WillAlterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This contains all three books in the sci-fi thriller Alterations trilogy. The trilogy follows Gigi, Ellen and Lilly in the aftermath of the implantation of a mind-control chip to alter something about themselves.
The premise of the storyline was great, I was intrigued and was hooked wanting to see the 3 face the consequences of the chip and whether they would achieve their happily ever afters. The idea behind the chips and how far people would go to change things about themselves was interesting to me.
I do think reading the trilogy in this set is the best way to go about it as there were moments (particularly within the second book) which slowed down considerably. I don’t think this was a problem when reading it all together, but don’t think this would have the same impact if reading separately.
The author was descriptive, paining vivid imagery of scenes and characters allowing you to step into the story. The writing flowed well, but there were frequent point of view changes. This wasn’t an issue for me as I quite enjoyed seeing things from multiple perspectives and getting to know the characters more, but it is not for everyone.
Overall I enjoyed this trilogy, it had a brilliant premise and was engaging and thought-provoking. My main issue would be the pacing previously mentioned, but as a whole this doesn’t detract from my enjoyment reading these books.

ALTERATIONS TRILOGY: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen – Review by Kerry Carr

Alterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal WillAlterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an amazing series. It is a sci fi Thriller which I was completely invested in. The author’s writing is captivating and kept me engaged from beginning to end.

The first book is Alterations and it follows the story of 3 women and a scientist/doctor. Doctor Kite has found a way to control these women using microchips in their bodies. 1 helps a woman to heal, 1 helps a woman to lose and maintain her weight and the 3rd helps a women overcome the stress of the divorcee. But what happens when these micro chips malfunction? What is the consequences of allowing a foreign object into your body to control an area of your life? Will these Microchips become the most amazing creation ever discovered or will the side effects and consequences when something goes wrong out weight the positives.

Book 2 is called Game Changer. We are back with Gigi, Lilly and Ellen and Dr Kite. All of there lives have moved forward and the women seem to be making their own path in life. Gigi has finally found love with her flatmate but will it last or will something find a way of coming between them? Ellen has finally lost the weight she wanted and she’s done it on her own. Now she’s a single mum after her one night stand with Brad but life’s great she’s changed career and is happy. But what happens when Brad reappears in her life?
Lilly can’t forgive Dr Kite for what he did to her and with her hatred for men stronger than ever no one is safe from her attempts to get revenge.
And finally we have Dr Kite. After his warehouse burned down he left town and moved somewhere no one knows him. After a while of self pity he meets a woman called Tiffany. Could she be the woman to bring him happiness? Is she all that she seems? And what happens when the Dr decides to play god again with his microchips?

The final book is called Primal Will. This book is just as captivating as the first too. It is fast paced and the twist and turns keep you guessing. As this is the final book we get the answers of what happens with all our characters. Do they get their happy endings? Do they things they thought would make them happy turn out to have the opposite effect? Is Lily pushing because of a need for revenge or is she seeing a business opportunity? And what happens with the man who started all this madness Dr Kite. Is he allowed his happy ending? Is he a good man who thought he was doing something good? Or is he a man who wants to manipulate and control people?

These books have been amazing to read
I loved everyone of them.

The Alterations Trilogy is a must read! It is a short read since the entire trilogy took me about 4 hours in total. It revolves around the story of three women who have been implanted with a mind control microchips. One of the chip malfunctions and causing one of the women to attempt killing herself. It turns out that 2 out of the 3 chips are faulty. The book alternates chapters between Gigi, Ellen, and Lilly, as well as other supporting characters. All their stories are very different, but they all tie together nicely at the end of each book. The number of twists and turns and connections between the women kept me reading to the very end. You will be on the edge of your seat with the Alterations Trilogy.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Killer Smile by Allan Evans is my first read by this author, and I was not the least bit disappointed! I didn’t know that this was actually book 2 of a series, and it was easy to read as a stand-alone book. The author has a unique writing style that draws you in and keeps you entertained! I really enjoyed his attention to details that was really important in making his story feel realistic. To me this book was a well written story about a detective finds himself in a race against time to find a group of serial killers. Cade (the detective) happens to find a web site for serial killers, and the most interesting find is that he is one of the targets! You will have to read the book to find out what happens to Cade and the group of serial killers. This book was very entertaining and engaging and was hard to put down! Great job Allan, I look forward to reading more books!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Killer Smile is an enthralling psychological thriller and a worthy sequel to “Killer Blonde.” Following these books in the sequence is imperative, and I unfortunately did not read the first book, but I was able to get right into this story. Within these pages, readers are treated to an adrenaline-charged journey filled with suspense, drama, mystery, and a relentless, fast-paced plot that refuses to let you catch your breath.
At the heart of this tale lies a chilling revelation: a sinister corner of the dark web where serial killers convene to select their next victims. Detective Cade Dawkins, haunted by his murky past, plunges into a life-or-death battle, not just for himself but for the safety of those he holds dear. The price he pays for simply doing his job leads him into the sinister minds of more than one twisted antagonist.
Prepare for a dark and twisted game of cat and mouse, where survival means everything.

Alterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal WillAlterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This trilogy is easy to read in one or two setting. Each book in this series is around 100 pages or so.

This book is interesting, creepy, and downright scary at times with the options available to people these days. While this is a work of science fiction, it could easily become a reality, if it hasn’t already.

Three women, all with differing sorts of body image issues, submit to Dr. Kite and his experimental microchips. Each chip is designed to “fix” the image issue that the person is facing. In Alterations, the focus is on the change that takes place within each of these three. Game Changer is about a life changing experience for each of them and Primal Will is their resolve to get away from the chip itself.

These stories are situations that are very real to many people and the resulting experiment proves that science is a good answer but not always the right one!!

This author is very quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I’ve read a few of her books now and she doesn’t disappoint!! She writes excellent books with a psychokiller thriller slant!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was definitely a trip and a half. I would 100% classify it as a psychological thriller, and every page had me guessing as to what would happen next. I did like the book, but as someone who isn’t much of a PT reader, it wasn’t as much as my speed as I was expecting. If you’re someone who enjoys sci-fi and psychological thrillers, then I think you’ll like this book.
