This is a fantastic book. I loved Killer Blonde so I was definitely looking forward to reading this one. It definitely did not disappoint. There were some differences from the first story – mainly that this was way more descriptive than the first one. But over all it delivered in suspense and character development. Truly I loved this story and would definitely recommend it.

I love a good murder mystery / thriller and this one did not disappoint. It featured a killer with a devious mind – who planned out and executed those plans in incredibly interesting ways. I liked how this story took the idea of the killer being part of a larger agenda. Cade Dawkens was a well written, well developed investigator and the case contained many twists and turns. Several of which that surprised me. This was truly a fantastically written thriller in which everything seemed to be thought of. I thought that both the killer and the investigator were well developed and did not come across as contrived. I thought that the plot moved at a great pace and that the various twists came a at great times and definitely kept me wanting to read. I recommend reading this one and I will be looking to read more by Allan Evans in the future!

I read the first book of this series and loved every page! So i was eager to start this one and I was not disappointed. I love a good crime thriller that keeps me on my toes! The twists and turns kept me turning the pages and every time I stopped reading to go do something else, I went right back to read more because I needed to know what happens next. You can read these as a standalone but I highly encourage you to read the first book! You won’t regret it. Great story line with amazing characters! I can’t wait for the next book!!

Lucky Break is the 2nd book in the Trentbridge Tales series. I did read the first one, but you don’t have to before reading this book. It is good enough for a stand alone, just with some cross over characters. This author writes good books and with a lot of thought put into them. They are like an episode of Law and Order, and keep the reader engaged. My one complaint, which I had with the first book too, there are too many characters. It is so hard for me to keep everyone straight on who is who and how they fit into the story. By mid way through, I had it all connected, but the first half I really struggled with it all. The mystery was maintained throughout, until the reveal at the very end. If you enjoy crime thrillers, I highly recommend this series.

I haven’t read the first book Killer Blonde, but I will be adding it to my TBR. I haven’t read a lot of serial killer books and think I just found the genre to get me out of the slump I have been in. If you enjoy watching shows like Criminal Minds or SVU then you will enjoy Killer Smile. The author is very descriptive with not only Cade and the rest of the characters but also the plot and the murders. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I did not read the previous book, but it wasn’t difficult to jump into this one without it. This story has a detailed plot full of suspense and danger with some comic relief to break up the dark bits. The characters are well-written and easy to connect with.
If you are a thriller and crime novel enthusiast, this would be a great addition to your TBR list.

Contemporary crime thriller
The second book in the Trentbridge Tales, Lucky Break brings another investigation for James Sheldon. Even though this can be read as a stand-alone there is an ongoing sub-plot that carries over from book 1. James finds himself thrust into a dangerous underworld where danger lurks around every corner as he tries to solve a murder. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, with the unpredictable storyline and engaging narrative. Looking forward to the next instalment. Recommend.

Just like the first book in the Trentbridge Tales Series, the author writes in a way to keep us readers on our toes and looking forward to what comes next. This second book starts out with us meeting Peter Moore, who takes us on a intriguing ride about antique items and art, specifically paintings. The story takes us on twists and turns we didn’t expect and keeps us reading more.
The author does a great job world and character building. I really appreciated seeing characters from the first book joining in this second book.

The first book in the Trentbridge Tales Series. I enjoyed reading the story from the beginning where we learn what caused James Sheldon to end up living in the streets for 10 months. The former detective was doing well until tragedy struck in the form of a car accident involving James’ wife and children.
The world building was well written taking us from James’ home, to the streets, and how a chance meeting ends up brining him out of the life on the streets.
The characters introduced through the story was also wonderfully written. I love crime mysteries and this one didn’t disappoint. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I love how this book combined an intense and interesting thriller with a more modern approach to crime. The incorporation of the dark web into an intriguing crime story made for a really great story. The moments of light heartedness and amusement really gave an extra depth to the book that made it all the more enjoyable.
The characters were easy to connect with and well developed. The more the story went on the more I found them characters I wanted to know about. This is the kind of book that hooks you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the end. This is a fantastic story that I would certainly recommend.

Lucky Break (Trentbridge Tales Book 2) by Lee Wood. This is such a good book. Its the 2nd installment of the Trentbridge Tales Series and I highly recommend reading the first book to understand the characters better. Its the ongoing story of James Winston who is a detective who has had a hard road. He is a very dedicated detective now and is on top of this new case. It involves the art world and a man named Peter Winston-Moore who has discovered a Picasso and has finally caught a break. He is now a real player in the art world. When he tells all the other dealers he found this Picasso at a thrift store they don’t believe him and they are on the hunt for where he really got it. When someone is murdered everything shifts. Will James be able to find out who the murderer is before there are more bodies found? Will Peter make it out of this situation alive. Just when he finally makes it things go South and fast. I love these fast paced thrillers and can’t wait to read the next one!

So, we’re back with Cade, but this time he’s running a task force. This book is a little bit more detailed and can be a little bit more heavy than the first book, but I gotta say that the humor mixed in with it reminded me a lot of Hotch and Morgan from the show Criminal Minds. I did love this book as well, as a second time reader of this author, I was very impressed with the book and the series. I really hope that there’s a third book, because I definitely want more from Cade!

I normally don’t read a lot of murder-mystery, but this author did such a fantastic job! I was sucked in right from the get go! The detail in this book had me on the edge of my seat! I was very impressed1 with the research that the author did on the book as well, and I’m looking forward to the second book! The way all of the characters, main or side characters included, were written so well and I have nothing but extreme respect for the author that wrote it. There’s only a select few of investigation type books that I’ve read that I really enjoyed this much, and this was definitely one of them!

Wow! Allan Evans did it again and upped the Ante this time! Killer Smile absolutely blew me away, great sequel to Killer Blonde! I absolutely loved Evans’ use of humor in this book. It really contradicted the gruesomeness of the murders and worked really well for the overall tone! I was completely enthralled and dying to know the ending! One of my favorite things about these books is trying to guess who the killer/killers are! I love Cade Dawkins’ dangerous detective life and really hope for another book to continue his journey! Such an intriguing read that will get your heart pumping!

My heart was racing the whole time! Killer Blonde was a great fast paced thriller that had me turning pages faster than I could even read them! Allan Evans’ writing is so vivid I could picture everything very clearly and feel the fear of the victims and even Cade Dawkins! The emotions of the characters and the situations completely came through! I really enjoyed Cade, he was a well developed character all around. His relationship with the killer kept me on edge, with so much anxiety! I am looking forward to his next book! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quicker read that you won’t be able to put down!

Killer Smile by Allan Evans is a gripping and fast paced story that takes us on a tense ride with high stakes, hidden agendas, drama, danger, politics, crime and investigation, mystery, murder, intrigue, and a game of cat and mouse between a seasoned cop and a serial killer/s with an agenda.
As with his other book, Killer Blonde, there is quite a lot going on in it- with plenty of dramatic developments that kept me flipping the pages to find out how everything played out in the end. I think this is a little grittier and darker than Killer Blonde, which I loved. We return to watch as Cade Dawkins is caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse as serial killers use him as the ultimate challenge. An online, dark-web serial killer chat site has targeted Cade after his involvement in the Killer Blonde (serial killer) case- Cade is being targeted as a ‘challenge’ that he has no control over. He and his task force will need to outwit and out ‘play’ their sinister opponent/s if they have any chance of keeping their city safe. What happens makes for an intriguing read.
Looking forward to seeing what Mr. Evans does next.

Thank you, Allan Evans!

Lucky Break (Trentbridge Tales Book 2) by Lee Wood – Review by Jenni Bishop

Lucky Break (Trentbridge Tales #2)Lucky Break by Lee Wood

Lucky Break is the second intriguing book in Lee Wood’s Trentbridge Tales. Each book can be read as a standalone but should be read in order as the character and sub-plots are intertwined throughout the books.
I enjoyed reading Mr Lucky the first book and getting to know ex Detective James Sheldon who was down and out on his luck, now turned PI.
Lucky Break is a little dark British crime thriller with surprising twists and turns that kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat at times. Lee’s vivid narrative and slightly gritty psychological plot makes for one interesting read that you will not put down until the last page has been turned.
James is on a case where one man’s fortunate discoveries turn out not so fortunate now, he’s dead. What James discovers is a dark world of secrets, lies, crime, danger, murder and mayhem and who was it that pulled the trigger on this smoking gun (so to speak).
If you like British crime thrillers, then you will enjoy Lucky Break. I encourage to grab a copy.
I once again look forward to more of James Sheldon and his adventures.

This was a great book!! I really enjoyed Killer Blonde but this story had me at the edge of my seat! While you can read this as a standalone I recommend reading Killer Blonde….and Detective Cade is back!! Cat and mouse, mystery, suspense/thriller, crime….

Detective Cade Dawkins is back after stopping a serial killer….but the tides are turning after he is notified of a website that has Cade on their radar….this website is serial killers now targeting him. Once this notice is out whom will outsmart whom? Will Cade be more in danger or will the killers get him before it is to late!!

Another great read and I cannot wait to read more!!

This was a very good cat and mouse crime thriller that felt like this could happen in real life. Murder, mystery, mayhem, danger, twists and turns and some intense moments….the thrill of the kill by this mystery serial killer and the detective whom is out to track them down…..

Someone is out to and has their eyes on tall, beautiful blonde women and to make a statement and end their life. Planning, stalking and the methods…one by one, women are dying. Detective Cade Dawkins is highly known and out to put an end to this killer. Will Detective Cade find this serial killer before more it is to late or will the killer outwit the law.

Great read and highly recommended….looking forward to more from this author!

Killer Smile by Allan Evans – Review by Jennifer Crain

Killer SmileKiller Smile by Allan Evans
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I rated this a star lower than the first book, 4 stars instead of 5, because I personally didn’t care for the brutal descriptions of the murders, and felt it wasn’t needed in parts to allow the story to keep on moving. I felt the story dragged at times; for example, it was obvious from the get go there were two killers, but the time it took to get there was slow.

I did enjoy the comical name and reoccurring jibes of the task force name (Five Below). My favorite quotation from the book was”The other two grad students grinned. One said, “Murder vacation: band name.” because it comically relieves a relatively dark book (I felt this one was darker than book #1). I did think the reoccurring stereotypical cop jokes got old after the first few references to donuts. Although I did connect with Cade in his dislike of elevator music.

All in all, I would read book #3 of the series when it comes out and see where it is going.

From right off, the cover builds suspense and intrigue- whom is the attractive woman in the red dress, and why is she standing on a parapet off a building?

First impression of the book was this was one I was going to stick with, because it was well written and fast-paced, and in a style that I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. For characterizations, I loved how the governor gives Investigator Cade Dawkins the hardest time, only in order to build his own importance and build confidence in his constituents for the next election. I felt for the citizens of Minnesota as Cade works to find the killer.

I enjoyed the soccer-loving authors’ reference to the game, although dislike his taste in the English Premier League and his key players, but thought he wrote about the passes/plays in soccer quite effectively. For whatever reason, I laughed over the line “The killer goosed the gas pedal,” I don’t know if that is regional slang or not!

I can’t wait to read book #2 of this series, and I would recommend this one to anyone that enjoys fast-pasted, thriller-style mysteries.

This book is like watching Criminal Minds – if you like that series, you’ll enjoy this read. Out on the dark web, there is a challenge for serial killers to come and outsmart the detective that took down the Blonde Killer. I wasn’t sure I was going to get into the story at the start, but I kept reading and was glad I did – the ending took me by surprise! This is an amazing book!!! It took me a little bit to get into I will admit. I couldn’t put it down after I got into it. In fact, I hated to put it down.  Cade Dawkins is a State Patrol Investigator for Minnesota. He doesn’t resemble a cop but boy does he know how to be one. He is giving an opportunity to run a task force but really its just him at least a for a little bit. It becomes evident that there are some serial killers lurking around and its up to him and his team to find them and put them where they belong. There are twists throughout the book and I for one was very shocked about the ending. I never imagined it would end how it did. I feel like I need to mention that there is another book before this book “Killer Blonde”. I have a feeling that I should have read that one first but I definitely will read it now.
