Shake Loose the Border (Thunder On The Moor Book 3)Shake Loose the Border by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in this series I was excited to read this novel and was not disappointed. This gripping historical novel with a time travelling twist had me hooked from start to finish, and I loved being back with main characters, Will and Maggie. The couple are a week away from their wedding when they find Johnnie Hetherington’s dead body tied to a tree on their land. Sergeant Carnaby questions Will and his family about his murder. Then just after the wedding the Armstrong clan attack, and Geordie is determined to rescue his niece from the Foster clan, even though Maggie and Will are in love.

Will tells Dylan to take Maggie to safety, even if that means her returning to the twentieth century. However, with the amulet stone disintegrating Maggie and Will could be separated forever, stuck in different time periods. As usual the author was able to bring both the settings and time periods vividly to life with her descriptive narrative and accurate historical details. The exciting and fast paced storyline flows well and the plot twists ensured I could not put this book down. I would recommend reading this series in order. Overall, this was an engaging and immersive novel and I really hope that there will be a fourth one.

Well, here we are at book 3 of the series. Will and Maggie have more adventures as the wedding is scheduled to happen and Maggie is still trying to get them home. The emotions run the gamut through this story. You’ll feel it from anger to sadness to happiness. The story still flows very smooth. The characters are still so well-written and very relatable. I still love reading it with the scottish tinge to the language. This has been the best series so far of 2022. I am a huge fan of time travel and this author always writes stories that keep the readers engaged all the way through. Get out there and get a copy. You won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend.

Book 2 of the series, this one starts with Maggie sending her family back barefoot. I have to say that was the funniest beginning I have seen in awhile. Picturing grown men picking rocks out of their hose had me giggling. In this installment, Maggie has broken free from her framily and run off with Will. Can their love get them through this? I’m pretty sure it can but I can’t tell you. You have to read this. I promise that you will enjoy this story. The characters are so full of personality and so big for their britches that you just can’t help but root for Maggie and Will. Her family wants to get her and marry her off to Ian. God help her, all she wants is to get home. Will this hapen? Stay tuned and get out there and buy your copy.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! I fell in love with this book right from the start. I am a fan of all things scottish. Trying to read this book with its language was fantastic and gave the book a bit of excitement for me. It was engaging. Time travel is a very intriguing topic for a story as well. Maggie and Will are two very different personalities that come together in this story by a truly different tale. Maggie is basically dragged back by her father and meets Will. The time period is brutal and harsh. It’s safe to say women don’t get a lot of respect. They will face a lot challenges as they deal with clans that don’t get along and other issues. I shouldn’t but I did chuckle at some of the issues being faced and how they were dealth with. The story is very well-written and has a great flow to it. The characters are just that; characters with wild personalities. You should give this book a try. I highly recommend it.

This is the third book in the Thunder on the Moor Series. I have not read the first two and recommend doing so as I felt a little bit lost at first. This was a highly emotional book, filled with adventure, mystery, and even a little history thrown in. I don’t always like historical books, but I truly enjoyed this book. I fell in love with Will and Maggie and am going to have to go back and read the first two books then read this one again.

This is the third book in the Thunder on the Moor Book series by Andrea Matthews. I highly recommend reading the first two books in this series to enhance the reading of this book. This is a fantasy, adventure, drama, and romance book all wrapped up into one. The storyline is so involved that it held my attention from the first page until the last page. The characters are complex and wonderful in nature. I really related to Maggie. It seems like the world is out against Maggie and Will. There is a history and this straw might be the one that breaks the camelback and separates them for good. Can they be saved? Can Dylan assist Maggie and get Will out of trouble? What will be coming next for Will and Maggie? I recommend reading this series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in The Thunder On The Moor. I really recommend reading these books in order as without doing that the story would be hard to follow as there as loads of characters and clans and time periods. Saying that if you do read from the first book you will be completed gripped by the story. It has the perfect mix of romance, adventure, danger and history as well an an element of time travel.
The author does an amazing job with the historical writing and descriptions which really bring the story to life as well as give an insight into the past history between the Clans in Scotland and England.
The time travel element of this story is a unique twist which allows our characters to find love with someone from a different time period to their own which makes the story all the more unique.
In this story we learn more about the Clans disagreements and the fights between them, we also learn more about the time travelling and how the way Maggie and Dylan travelled to meet their loves isn’t a way to travel forever. When things get dangerous Maggie returns to her time period to be safe but with the magic she used to travel weakening will she be able to travel back to be with the man she loves?

Shake Loose the Border is the third instalment in the Thunder On The Moor series by Andrea Matthews. As with the previous two books, this is a time travel romance, with fantasy, action, adventure, danger, tension, drama, mystery, suspense, history, and more.
If you haven’t read the previous two books, I highly recommend that you do so before starting on this book, as there is a lot of important storyline and relevant information there that will better help you appreciate and understand the storyline, characters, and other interesting details.
Just when the future seemed so hopeful and things looked more settled for Will and Maggie, fate throws them another curve ball- and the results could see them separated forever. What happens? Well, you really should read all the intriguing details for yourself.
The story continues in the next instalment- so bring on ‘With Fire and Sword’ (Book #4)…
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Andrea Matthews.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shake Loose the Border is the third book in the Thunder On The Moor series. It’s definitely worth starting with book one (Thunder On The Moor) as a lot happens in the earlier books that impacts on the events of this one.
Thunder On The Moor is a historical fiction series with a time travel twist. The historical setting is the Scottish borders in the mid-16th Century, and a lot of research has gone into the level of historical detail which really paints a vivid picture. Thanks to the time travel, we get to experience the past through modern eyes, as Maggie learns to accept the realities of the world she has found herself in.
This is an emotional book, and there is a fair bit of violence as well. But there’s also plenty of warmth and character to keep it balanced!
I would recommend this to fans of other time travel stories with strong historical elements, such as Outlander. It gets five stars from me – a totally engrossing read!

Historical, Suspenseful and Romance that will pull at your heartstrings. It has been a while since I have cried this much, while reading. This is Maggie and Will’s dramatic story. So much happens and that is what will keep you reading. As you will not find a safe stopping point. You will have the need to find out what happens next. I could not put it down, nor could I stop the tears. I recommend you start with book 1 in this series. Just to get to know the characters in this series. This Author has an eye for details, as well has knowledge of the past. There is so much more I could say, but that would involve giving you Spoilers. No Spoilers in this review! I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Please Hurry, Author!

A historical romance but not your typical historical romance as it is steeped in paranormal. I have said it before, but this series reminds me of Outlander in so many ways. This time travel tale is full of passion and interesting facts. As with the first two books there is plenty of action and danger, murder, and mayhem, angst, and suspense. Make sure to read the books in order so as not to miss out the background and history of our characters and how they have gotten where they are.
Just when we thought things were settling down for our couple Maggie and Will find themselves once again in trouble. Maggie is once again on the run to another century with the help of Dylan, but Will is left behind. Will they find a way back to each other or are they doomed to be a part forever?

I jumped on the band wagon in reading this amazing series. I must say I certainly received more than I bargained for! The story itself in this specific installment was full of emotion and other feelings associated with it. I did realize how deep these feelings would go, it was a powerful read start to finish!

I loved the concept of this story! I have read the second book in the past, and actually from reading that one read the first, and I am back with a finished 3rd in the series. I must say the toll of emotions in this one defiantly continues on in a intense way in this one! Will and Maggie are true troopers, they endure a lot, as much as everyone else character wise. There was a lot of feelings of pain and hardship I found with his one, I felt I was living in the moment as well as the suspense and agony Will and Maggie faced! That’s what I loved especially in this novel, the realism was there, and it was certainly felt!

The way the story flowed was a good quick speed, and it kept you guessing and wondering what would come next with the words that were written! I had a lot of concern going as I read this novel. I would say that is the magic of this amazing author, they know how to keep you guessing and wanting more. The whole story is beautiful and full of its own special impact. I can never get enough of this series. I am already dying to know what will take flight and happen in the next! I love this series so much!

This book for me was the bet in the series yet, you really know the characters and things they have gone though, and you really have a strong build of a relationship with them! The feels as I have said got to be very real in this one! I would say defiantly look this author and series up if you have not already! The author and series is a must read! I will also add, this book alone is a must read, not one to be missed!

I enjoyed being pulled into the story by them. This is a suspenseful mystery about Maggie and Will. But what will happen when Will needs saving? Dylan is faced with going back to the past one last time to try to save him in time. What happens next I highly recommend reading this book to find out. Shake Loose the Border (Thunder on the Moor Book 3) by Andrea Matthews
Genre – Romance, Paranormal, Historical

Cover Designer – Jenny Quinlan

With Will and Maggie’s wedding just a week away, the last thing they need to stumble upon is Johnnie Hetherington’s dead body tied to a tree, especially one that’s so close to their cottage. Recognizing it as a sure sign that Johnnie has betrayed the family once too often, Sergeant Richie Carnaby gathers Will and his family together for questioning, though it seems obvious only a fool would kill a man on his own land. Then who did murder the rogue, and why?
Feeling confident it wasn’t any of the Fosters, Richie allows Will and Maggie’s wedding to proceed, but the couple has barely exchanged vows when the Armstrongs attack in force. Geordie is determined to rescue his niece from the clutches of Will Foster, whether she wants to go or not. And if he happens to make her a widow in the process, so be it. Will senses the danger and implores Dylan to get Maggie away to safety, no matter where — or when — that may be.
Though Maggie protests, Will assures her he will follow as soon as he is able. Yet how can that be possible when Dylan whisks her back to the twentieth century? Sharing her fears about Will, and unable to forget his own love, Annie, Dylan attempts to return to the past one last time despite his growing concerns over the disintegrating amulet stone. But will he make it in time to rescue Will, or will the villainous Ian Rutherford, who has already killed in cold blood once, win the ultimate battle and see Will and Maggie separated forever?

I highly enjoyed this book. The premise of the female lead being the child of a time traveler from the past is a new one for me. I feel like the story of her father leaving the 16th Century could be a story all on its own. You can see the author truly researched the time period to be able to bring this book to life. The world building and character progression was good. I can’t wait to read the second book.

This book came back full circle to focus more on the time travel aspect of the Armstrong and Foster story. We get to examine how the amulet and box work, and just how many times they can be used before the stone disappears completely. If one of them travels forward or backward in time, will they be able to return, or will the chance be lost forever? Maggie and Dylan are both desperately in love with their 16th Century Fosters, and suffer at the thought of being separated. It is really hard to review this one without spoilers!! A LOT happens, and I was thrilled to find out after finishing this one that there will be a 4th book, because I am not ready to let these clans go yet.
I’ve really enjoyed reading about Scottish and English history and culture, and getting personal with the values and traditions that were important. The characters in these books are phenomenal, and even the characters that have a smaller role are well-defined and believable. I read all three books back-to-back in a matter of days. When is Book 4 coming??

Ride with the Moonlight (Thunder On The Moor, #2)Ride with the Moonlight by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The adventure and edge-of-your seat action is ramped up in this Book 2. Now that Maggie knows the truth about what happened to her father, and the real nature of Ian Rutherford’s character, she is desperate to protect her beloved, Will Foster. The Armstrong clan are still convinced that smooth-talking “Bonnie Will” has beguiled the innocent Maggie, and that he needs to be brought to justice and she liberated. They are on the run, trying to escape the long arm of the law, and save Will from certain death in the gallows. But can they run forever? What will it take to save the star-crossed lovers?
The Armstrong and Foster clans clash yet again, and while both believe they are doing the best by Maggie, they are at odds. Tensions run very high in this novel, and the plot turns on split-second decisions. My heart was definitely pounding in places, and shed some tears in others. Very emotional and exciting continuation to this series.

This is a fantastic start to series that I am already loving. 19-year-old Maggie Armstrong gets sent back to 16th Century Scotland with her father and best friend, and finally gets to experience having the loyal family she’s always dreamed of. But family relations aren’t as easy as they seem, and Maggie chafes under women’s obligations in the 1500s. I love that she is a strong, stubborn, tenacious woman, very much her father’s daughter, and stands up for herself and her beliefs no matter the cost. While the life of border reivers can be violent and short, she appreciates the joy, love, and simplicity of strong family ties and protecting your own. This novel has plenty of battles, betrayals, and love stories to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Book 1 is the start of what I expect to be an epic saga, and I am here for it!

Thunder on the Moor (Thunder On The Moor #1) by Andrea Matthews

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was a great book and I’m looking forward to the next one. This is the first book in the Thunder On The Moor Series.

Maggie is the daughter of a 16th century man who was brought to the future. She’s heard what she thought were stories. Only to find out that they’re not just stories. The quote I chose for Maggie is: “Regardless, it would do us all good to get away.”

Robert is from the 16th century and from Scotland. He’s brought from the past to the future. There four hundred years into the future he meets his wife and had a kid. The quote I chose for Robert is: “Have nae fear, laddie, if I’d wanted to kill ye, ye’d be long since gone. Me kin, on the other hand, mightna take so kindly to such as you, so ye’d best be watching yerself. Now I see ye’ve already secured yer own jack, but the rest of what ye’ll be needing is in the car. Get yerself dressed, aye. We have some work to do.”

Highly recommended for Historical Romance lovers.

Ride with the Moonlight (Thunder On The Moor #2) by Andrea Matthews

This is the second book I’ve read by Matthews. The second book in the Thunder On The Moor Series. Better than the first and easier to read.

Maggie has saved Will from her family. She soon finds herself in quite some trouble. Having to go back to Ian isn’t something she wants to do. Losing her family is also something she doesn’t want to do. The quote I chose for Maggie is: “But don’t you see? You’ll be condemning me to far worse. My life’s already spent, my very heart hanging from a gibbet for the crows to . . . Please don’t let Geordie hand me over to Ian. I’m begging you.”

Will has fallen for Maggie. He doesn’t know how things are going to go considering that her family is after him. He soon finds that things aren’t going well. The quote I chose for Will is: “Ye canna blame yerself for believing Ian Rutherford’s lies. He’s a wicked creature, that one, with a silver tongue. Ye werena the only one to be deceived. Even yer Uncle Geordie believed him, and he’s a canny auld fox, or so me brother Walt says.”

Highly recommended for Historical Romance lovers.

Ride with the Moonlight by Andrea Matthews is the second book in the Thunder On the Moor series. This can easily be read as a standalone story but I highly recommend reading the series in order just for a better flow to the series. This is a fun historical romance read. Maggie is a time traveler and she has traveled to the sixteenth century with her family. Will be Scotland of the past be what Maggie expects? The story is well thought out and I enjoyed the different characters. She is in the middle of political intrigue between England and Scotland and unsure who to trust. This novel continues with Maggie and Will’s story which began in ‘Thunder on the Moor’, and I would recommend reading that book before this one to thoroughly enjoy the story. Having read and loved book one I was looking forward to this second instalment of Matthews’s historical romance series which has a time travelling paranormal twist. Time traveler Maggie Armstrong and sixteenth century Border reiver Will Foster are now together after Maggie saved Will from her family. However, Maggie’s Scottish kin are not happy that she has run off with an Englishman especially as her uncle has plans to marry her off to Scotsman Ian Rutherford. There is also danger from Will’s family who are not happy that he’s risking his life to be with a Scottish women. This novel is full of drama, suspense, and romance and I was hooked from page one. Having fallen in love with the main characters, Maggie and Will in book one I was completely immersed in their story and could not put this book down. The authors descriptive narrative really bought both the characters and the setting to life and I felt as though I was in the sixteenth century. The author obviously knows this time period well and I found this novel to be a good mix of history and romance. An enjoyable and engaging read, which I definitely recommend.

Ride with he Moonlight (Thunder On The Moor, #2)Ride with he Moonlight by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So, the second instalment in the Thunder on the Moor series, and I was chuffed. It really kept the feel of the first one going nicely, and I was instantly tugged back into the world without any of the massive reading pains of not remembering who was who and what the actual jeff was going on. Obviously, I think a lot of that enlightenment had to do with the fact I had actually read the first book instead of doing my usual trick of jumping into a series mid-way. Still, I think it says something about the strength of the world and the characters that Matthew has created, that even after a few months of not having some quality time with the ole chaps, I still sunk into this book as if no time had passed, all the characters having the familiarity of an old friend that I had just forgotten to message for a while.
This story picks up pretty much where the other one left off Will and Maggie, who swooningly ended up falling in love with each other after a trifle load of misunderstandings threatened to get in the way. Now though, they have a teeny tiny problem as, while they knew that Maggie’s family might be a smidge angry with her for taking the side of an Englishman and falling in love with him to boot, they had not prepared for trouble on Will’s end as well. The arsy warden decides that he doesn’t like an Englishman galivanting with a Scottish lass and effectively sends out a warrant for his arrest and while Maggie and Will do everything to evade capture, it becomes impossible. Once again separated, Will faces almost certain death, and Maggie faces a fate almost on par with death – being married to Ian, the massive dick from the first book, who I wish someone would just bonk on the head and do us all a favour. Anywho, Maggies family are dead set on the union regardless of what Maggie herself wants, and you know the fact that Ian is the devil incarnate who happened to murder her father. Meanwhile, news has reached Will’s family of his unfortunate predicament and they begin to formulate a plan to put a stop to his execution.
It’s a good strong second book, sometimes I find that the second instalment of a series can feel a little bit weak and limp, grinding to a halt because all the momentum from the first book just isn’t there, but Matthews keeps the pace going nicely and all of the awesome things I loved about the first book were present in this one too. Awesome writing and some gorgeous description that made me want to go and stand majestically on a hilltop somewhere. A wonderful write that I thoroughly enjoyed, even if Ian did piss me off something rotten.
