Dire's ClubDire’s Club by Kimberly Packard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dire’s Club by Kimberly Packard is such a unique and interesting book that really pulled me in from the start. I loved the concept of the final bucket list trip and how the author has gone about creating that idea. I thought that all the characters were so well written. They each had their part to play and fit the book so well.
This is still a relatively new author for me and I really enjoyed how this book is completely different to the other books of hers that I have read. I think this one has to be my favourite book so far and it one I would highly recommend.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Tamisha Janay

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I started this series, I had no idea there were thirteen books! Linda Burson has created an amazing story with Marcy, Liam, Brad, and all of the other characters. It was nearly impossible to put down. I am looking forward to diving deep into the other ten books to see what happens after the initial three.

Book one introduces us to Marcy and her rage. She has been irritable, violent, and unlike herself for quite some time. There is no fathomable explanation for it, but everyone in her life has noticed a change in her. We meet Brad, who doesn’t come across as the most reliable or understanding partner, but we discover all about how they met and the memories that they’ve shared. We meet Liam, who has an heir of mystery about him that is BEGGING to be discovered. Marcy’s friends and family (and all those who work in her cafe) are wonderfully written. They obviously care about her and put her best interests at heart always. After an ultimatum, Marcy decides to get some insight into why she is feeling the way that she is – which only opens the door for more revelations and ‘confusion’.

Book two, aptly named confusion, follows Marcy on her journey to discover what her heart truly wants. She gets an opportunity that most never do – falling in love with more than one person and getting to explore that love with both of them until she is able to decide what her choice should be. There is so much being uncovered in her therapy sessions that she needs to deal with, but her priority seems to be focusing on her love life. Trauma is a hard thing to recover from and avoidance is usually the easiest way to handle it. We follow her journey with Liam mostly in this book and learn more about him – as we did with Brad in book one. Safe to say, I have made my choice by this point.

Book three was a rollercoaster at night with a blindfold. Marcy has made her decision, told everyone she cares about, started on a new path towards her future, and made AMAZING strides in discovering her entire past to move past the traumatizing experiences she faced. Things never go the way that you think they will with Linda Burson and I am absolutely addicted to this series due to the twists and turns, shocking revelations, and character storylines.

There are no cliffhangers here, but I will say that you will be left wanting so much more. I am so excited to continue this series and find out what happens to all of the characters. These books have caused me to be very thorough when reading and I find myself being suspicious of the things that are being said or the way that the characters are acting on each page. I love the way this story is progressing and that there is still so much left to uncover. Seriously, if you’re thinking about it – read them! Don’t hesitate. You won’t regret it. *TW: descriptive violence & self-harm*

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Lorrene Huisman

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just wow! Those are my opening words that I am using, as nothing else seems to give an impact as these books did for me! The book themselves and their storylines really impact you in different ways. And lets not forget the characters, their emotions and their drama make you feel literally everything! Its a rollercoaster of suspense, drama, and emotions needless to say! All in all, impeccable writing!

The first novel follows our lead character named Macy. She is having a rough time, and at times I truly felt for her. She did not have the best boyfriend in my opinion and she’s got issues. I mean we all do in some way and I can speak from experience that support is supper important to help us! This novel surrounds Macy and her nightmares, and her nightmares are more than the word heavy can define. What do they mean? It was a mystery and brain like thing to comprehend. Along her way trying to figure things out she meets Liam. Who basically rocks her world and shifts everything that she knows! She felt like she was losing it at times through out this novel, but perhaps there was a key in all of this that was more visible than anyone ever suspected of thought? Yes, I really loved this opening book.

We join Macy and her story continuing in the next novel. This one lives up perfectly to the one previous to it. Macy is very much confused with matters of her heart, hence the book title. Plus everything going on with her does she really need her own heart pulling her into different directions? This one brought more to the table than expected and I was hooked even more. More and more things came to light that really bought the suspense and then some. Like holy cow, this series with this second one made me feel even more, my feelings were all over the place with the characters, and I was truly entranced with this series!

We reach the final one, and yes I felt sad this series was coming to an end. I was so emotionally invested that I really grew with all the drama and suspense surrounding Macy, that I was not ready to say her story had reached its conclusion. This book bought more impact to me than the first two even did, and I truly did not think that was possible. This series bought so much and this third one really finalized everything and gave the reader for that thrill ride like no ever experienced, at least in my opinion. Macy has to go through a lot in this one, a lot of pain and suffering, what she thought she had she very much didn’t, Everything changes more than lightly for Macy, and she has to shift her world to get to the true understanding of all things that she knows! Macy is very strong, but even the strongest souls can be weakened to their knees with life! The emotions of this one were even heavy for me, and like Macy who had to continue on with her life, despite everything, I pushed through those emotions to see what would happen to Macy and all things that surrounded her! Seriously what an explosive conclusion to this one!

Seriously, I was so invested in this series and these characters I could not put this down. I was so in love with this series and all it brought to the table. This author quickly became a new favorite for me, and that’s needless to say. I am going to be stalking them for more books. the impact and feelings they brought on to me with their writing was indescribable. If an author has that power then you defiantly should pick these books up I say, I highly say to do so, your in for a treat that you can only experience upon reading these novels! Its a series that will suck you in, and make you feel everything!

Dire's ClubDire’s Club by Kimberly Packard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Losing someone you love can cause spirit-crushing grief such as Charlotte, the main character, feels. She lost her fiancé, Jason, ten years ago to a car accident. She is still experiencing such depression and grief from this that she is finding it hard to move on. Dire’s Club is an organization that gives terminal patients their chance to get their last wish done. Charlotte decides she is going to join this group and in the process she meets some extraordinary people that make such impressions on her that her life is forever changed: Lourdes, Levi, Dylan, Celeste, Jimmy and Darla. What an AMAZING book! All the feelings can be felt in this book. You will go on many adventures with the Dire’s Club and feel their emotions as they all deal with their feelings over dying and read what happens when some lies and fraud are exposed. Probably the BEST book of 2021 that I have read so far. It’s like explaining the grief cycle in an easier way. I definitely recommend this one.

Written in the Stars (Mothers and Daughters Collection) by Angela Christina Archer – Review by Jenni Bishop

Written in the StarsWritten in the Stars by Angela Christina Archer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Written in the Stars is a heart-warming and gripping story about adoption and finding birth parents and is the second book in the Mothers and Daughters Collection by Angela Christina Archer. It is a story that made my heart ache as I easily got lost in the story. Angela’s writing drew me in and conjured up all sorts of emotions as I followed along with this story. A young unwed woman in the 1950’s is left alone and has the choice on whether or not to keep her unborn baby taken away from her. It also shows what one goes through to find someone that may help them know who they are and where they came from. I was completely engrossed in the story and invested in the characters.

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Liz Vrchota

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a wonderful boxed set with so many different areas of interest covered for young adult readers that it would be a wonderful one to snag a gift or read for yourself! I love box sets from my favorite authors for this reason! I can share all my favorites in such a convenient way and start people with a wonderful series. The Marcy Series has something for everyone like I said with a strong female lead and really brings to a whole host of supporting side characters to fall in love with as well. I have included below the review for the first two books in the series individually as well so you can get a taste of what is in them in depth a bit more but this is one that you do not want to miss out on!

RAGE: BOOK 1-

“As I fall asleep, all I can think of is a four-letter word: Rage.”

This was my first time reading anything by Linda Burson, and I don’t generally pick up many novels in these genres either, but was wanting to switch it up a bit and the synopsis grabbed my attention from the get go. I was really intrigued by the fact that this was looking to lean more towards an alpha female lead rather than focusing on an alpha male lead for a change. So, I jumped in with an open mind and was fully ready for some kick butt female lead story lines.

So, we meet the lovely and deeply aggravated Marcy. She is the owner of a bakery, Coffee, Tea, & Treats, engaged to Brad, and seems like life is going fairly well. Except it really isn’t. She has been plagued with these nightmares for quite some time now and it is affecting every person and aspect of her life.

“I haven’t been my sweet self for a while. I’m not trying to be difficult, but the nightmares I’ve been having are taking their toll on me.”

All that seems to be the norm in her life as far as feelings go anymore is rage.

“As I fall asleep, all I can think of is a four-letter word: Rage.”

Eventually it takes its final toll on her relationship with her fiancé and an ultimatum is given to her, she either gets help or he is gone.

“That’s it, damn it! I’m done! Do you hear me? I’m fed up with your craziness. I’m leaving. You need help and you need it now!”

This eventually leads her to a newfound love and friend, Liam. They embark on a journey together that will either heal them or tear them apart more.
I will say that this isn’t necessarily a cliffhanger book, but there are unanswered questions and loose ends. It is book 1 in a series and you will definitely want book 2 after this one is done so that you can get the answers to some of those questions left hanging in the air after this one is done. The one reason that I did not give this five stars was because for me this book was in a lot of ways disjointed. It almost felt like two stories with an intermission of excessive information. I have a feeling that it will make all the more sense when reading the second book but it was a tad confusing in the sense that it was introduced in this novel rather than spread throughout the next few books. Otherwise I did enjoy it and will give the next one a go to see what comes next for Marcy and the rest of the characters.

CONFUSION: BOOK 2-

“Marcy, sometimes we can’t explain why the heart wants what it wants. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong; it just means we get confused…”
This is the second installment in The Marcy series by Linda Burson and I was very much impressed with the flow and improvement with the storyline progression in this book. I liked the idea behind the series in book one and wanted it to go blossom in this one and it didn’t disappoint!
“Marcy, sometimes we can’t explain why the heart wants what it wants. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong; it just means we get confused. You need to incorporate your mind; use your intelligence to logically figure out why you feel so connected to him. The heart will lead us astray, but our hearts combined with our reason helps us decipher what the right answer is for us.”
This pretty much picks up where the precious book leaves off, with Marcy confused as to where she wants to settle her heart with, between Liam or Brad. She knows that she has ‘feelings’ for both of them but which one does she love? Luckily, she gets the opportunity to have time to figure this out with both of them, something that is not traditional in most relationships in the modern age, also made for a very interesting and captivating read.
This also contained all the drama, suspense, mystery, and intrigue that balanced so well in the previous novel. It really takes the reader on a roller coaster of a ride. Marcy has quite the intense life both in the present and in her history and she is still uncovering a lot of details. I look forward to reading more about this in future installments in this series.

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda J Burson is a collection of great books with some brilliant characters. This is a series that really does need to be read in orders as it is a continuation of their stories throughout. With each of these books I found it so easy to connect with the characters – and to reconnect with them quickly each time I started a new book.
Each of these books is well written and exciting to read. Even though it follows the same characters I thought each book had a different feel to it, distinguishing it from the last book while still having a familiar sense to it. The books are all faced paced. So much seems to happen in each book and the author really knows when to throw in a twist to keep you on your toes. As soon as I had finished one of these books I had to start the next and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Written in the Stars: a heart warming and gripping story about adoption and finding birth parents by Angela Christina Archer is the second book in the Mothers and Daughters Collection. This is such an emotional story you cannot help but be swept away by what the author is portraying. In every single page you could feel the raw emotion and the incredible journey the main character goes through. At times I found this book to be utterly heart breaking only for it to then completely shift and be uplifting and delightful. This author does an amazing job of painting the picture of what it was like in the time this book is set. Even though it is hard to believe now that these situations occurred the author made it truly relatable and easy to imagine.
Although this is only the second book in this series I have to say this is definitely my favourite one so far. It is hard to see how the author can top this but I am looking forward to finding out what is next.

Written in the Stars (Mothers and Daughters Collection) by Angela Christina Archer – Review by Lorrene Huisman

Written in the StarsWritten in the Stars by Angela Christina Archer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book gave me so much emotions, a lot of happiness, sadness, worry, and the very power of my mind going “what if?” This was a very powerful book and it was amazing in so many ways not for the just the emotions it gave to me, but also the characters and who they were, and what they would be. It was first time read by this author, and I will read more of their books, and for sure the next one in the series.

I have never felt the feeling in my life of many whom have to give up their child. Betty in the book had to just this. I really felt I was in her shoes, the pain and suffering and the agony she was in. She lost the the person she cared about most as well as her daughter, she was basically taken away from her. She loved her truly, you could tell, she wanted to give her a wonderful life, but could she? The pain from letting her go really impacted Betty and who she was, and who she would become though the years. I felt so much tears forming reading the words upon what Betty went through. The heart break was really felt, for real.

Flash forward to Marlena. The adopted daughter of Betty. A young girl who lives her life unknowing she was ever adopted. A secret that would greatly impact her soon. Her father needs medical aid, she feels she’s his daughter and she can assist him with his medical needs. Then the big secret comes out, and Marlena learns she was adopted. I literally felt the heart break and the anger and hurt she felt as well as I did for Betty. All that time she could have been told, yet she wasn’t, how did her un-biological parents think she would exact? Did they think she would never find out? Easy to say, she was hurt and shocked beyond what very words could write out to describe the emotional impact.

These two worlds were meant to intersect unknowingly to both of these women. Marlena sets out to find out her birth mother and years to know her, to understand more, to meet her true mother and receive answers to so many questions she deeply needs emotionally, and truly feels she has a right to know.

As we get on the path to their lives that would intertwine. So much emotions were felt. More than I had already experienced. Truth of what happened with Betty and Marlena’s fathers surfaces. You truly felt everything, and I mean literally everything There was so much truth in all things felt and the characters who the whole adoption shaped both women to be was truly beautiful but devastating to both of them at different times in their life, past present, and the future.

This author was a first time read for me, but truly tugged at my heart strings and had me with tears of joy as well as sadness. I kept rooting for the family to meet and connect. For them to have their look and say “your my mom” or “your my daughter.” All in all this was beautiful to read and I am so glad I got to read this. Emotionally beautiful in so many ways. A must read. It takes a special author to impact so many emotions on the reader, and this one did that. I loved it so much, defiantly recommend this story!

This book is a part of the Mothers and Daughters collection by Angela Christina Archer. The story is a beautiful collaboration of emotions as you get to know Marlena and Betty and how their worlds intertwine. This book is a reflection of a reality that many young women faced in the 1950’s. My heart went on a roller coaster ride through happiness and heartbreak. Every character in the book has a backstory and they are painted in so much detail that you are fully entangled in their world. You feel what they feel and see through their eyes. Angela Christina Archer has quickly become a favorite author of mine and I can not wait to explore more of her books!

This is the second book in this series which I enjoyed just as much as the first one. I can’t wait to see what the third book brings. This is a well written story about a young mother having to not only give up her love but also her child. Marlena was adopted and once she finds out she is on a quest to find the truth behind her adoption. Will she find her biological parents and what will happen if she does? This is a great story that I can relate to as I adopted my daughter and my brother is adopted as well and his search for his family. The characters were great and connectable. They were written with a lot of heart and soul. They took me on an emotional roller coaster ride in parts. I enjoyed watching the growth with all of the characters and what they brought to the story. This is most certainly worth the pick up and I highly recommend it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rage is the first book in the Marcy series by Linda Burson.  I liked the book overall and i was looking forward tonreading the second book but I found myself a little confused and now have a ton of questions.  I had been down with a pretty bad cold when I started so I can’t help but wonder if that has something to do with my confusion or if I was lead to be confused on purpose by the author.  If that is the case, she did a good job.

Confusion is the second book in the series. I found myself getting very frustrated with Marcy in this book.  The back and forth was never ending or at least that is the way it seemed to me.  There were times I really wanted to shake her and get her to make up her mind between Brad and Liam.  I like the supporting cast as much if not more than the main characters and I hoped to find them in more prominent roles in the following books.

Agony and Ecstasy is the third book in the series and I think this is my favorite of the series so far.  I didn’t find myself as annoyed my Marcy as I did in the first two book which was a good thing, but that never stopped me from reading the books and not want to put them down.  Marcy has done a lot of growing and healing in this series and I have a feeling that there is still a lot more to come for her.

Written In the Stars: a heart-warming and gripping story about adoption and finding birth parents is the second book in the Mothers and Daughters Collection by Angela Christina Archer. It is, as the title suggests, a touching story about adoption, family, belonging, and finding birth parents.
As expected from Ms. Archer, the story was well-written, moving, and compelling. It didn’t take long before I was fully invested in the story- and before I knew it I had finished.
Wonderful women’s fiction!

Thank you, Angela Christina Archer!

The Marcy series box set by Linda Burson fantastic four-star reads.
Rage, Confusion and Agony and Ecstasy complete the Marcy series, this series was good, and it shows us Marcy is a strong character and she shows us her strength of character that will surprise you at times, but it will also show you how great the writing and character development is by this author. These stories have their ups and downs and suspense a plenty as well as drama, there is a love triangle, so that’s kinda a given. But there’s another side as well, a deeper side that’s filled with a depth and drama you don’t see often, its well written and compelling and makes a very fast paced story easy to grasp. Overall, they are very good stories, they just missed that something special that blew me away.

“Live like your life depends on it.”

Dire’s Club by Kimberly Packard is such an original and quite compelling read. I have loved all her previous books- and even though this story is quite different from the rest, I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than her other works. This is a story about facing death, a topic that could be quite heavy and depressing. But this story manages to make this otherwise depressing topic take a more inspiring, moving, and beautiful tone that really made me sit up and take notice.
It is an adventure- where we follow a group of people as they embark on an experience of a lifetime while fulfilling a ‘bucket list’ wish and embracing ‘life’ to the fullest before death comes knocking.
This is all about friendships, secrets, adventure, emotion, facing your mortality, making you think, inspiring, terminal illness, mental illness- all with some unexpected twists and surprising developments that turn up the intrigue to maximum.
The story really made me evaluate my own life and take stock of what I would like to tick off my list before I ‘go’…
This book might seem like it is about mortality, death and dying- but I feel it is more about life- really embracing life, enjoying your life, and “living like your life depends on it”…
A really beautiful and memorable story that I won’t soon forget!

Thank you, Kimberly Packard!

WOW! This is an amazing read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I expected it to be a tearful book, given the subject matter, but there was so much more laughter and enjoyment that I wasn’t expecting. There are some bittersweet moments for sure, but the love and adventures are what I am taking away from this book. The characters are so real, I feel like I know them. The motley cast of Diers that were thrown together for their trip come from all walks of life, and seeing the way they bonded was inspiring and uplifting. Packard is a fantastic writer, who writes with heart, empathy, and courage. If you are considering reading this book, DO IT!

The characters are connectable and written with a lot of heart. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by them and what they brought to the story. This is an engaging story that I found to be easy to read and entertaining. Dire’s Club is a place where it gives terminally ill people one last adventure. This is a story full of emotion that will tug at your heart in spots. I really enjoyed being pulled in and how the author’s use of details made the story feel realistic. This is worth the pick up for sure. I highly recommend this book.

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book set is a great way to start this series! And you must start at the beginning!

This first book is an interesting story. I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the entire time I was reading this book. The plot is a good one, with the main character, Marcy, experiencing some unexplained nightmares and rage. Her boyfriend, Brad, tries to make her understand that people are beginning to fear her. This just makes her angrier. Brad is by no means perfect and has his own problems. This couple gets engaged but sadly it doesn’t last long when they discover they have major problems to work out. Because Marcy didn’t have enough going on in her crazy life, she meets Liam.

I enjoyed this story because I experienced a range of emotions with the characters from their experiences. A little rage myself at the hospital scene. I have found that Brad tends to bring out my worst feelings. However, when Marcy meets Liam, that relationship brings out my swoony type feelings. (Although I think they are rushing things.)

I did not think that Marcy’s rage was all that out of control. Although when she learned to control it she seemed to be able to rather quickly. I think there could have been more situations where she was out of control. There were situations where she should have been out of control but she was rather passive. Marcy is a very likeable character and I cannot wait to see how and when Burson gives Marcy a happily ever after.

Confusion is book two in the Marcy series. In this book Marcy seems to have her rage still under control. After she met Liam in book one she learns there is a better outlet for her rage. In Confusion she is given more opportunities to let that rage loose. Her real confusion is loving two men and it is making me crazy! I really don’t know how one person could do it. She is much stronger than she thinks. However, I would like to see Brad become a little stronger himself. He seems weak through the first half of the book. And then he kind of goes MIA. Leaving us to wonder what he is cooking up.

Liam’s past is still a mystery and his current life as a vigilante keeps him mysterious. I hope when all is said and done he isn’t a bad guy! I am still #teamliam though-out this book!

Again, Burson’s writing style makes this storyline easy to read. I want a happily ever after and Marcy just can’t make a choice…I really don’t blame her…much.

To get the whole story you must read before book one, Rage, before reading Confusion. I love the titles that the author has given to these books. Perfect! However, my feelings are mixed about the main characters. Liam, Marcy and Brad…make a choice already! I did wish there was a bigger wow factor for the cliff hanger but I am still going to read the next book, Agony and Ecstasy. That sounds about right for these characters! I can’t imagine what Burson has in store for these three!

Ok here we go. Agony and Ecstasy is the third book in the Marcy Series. Will it be the last? With that ending I certainly hope not!

Here’s what causes Marcy’s rage, confusion, agony AND ecstasy!

“My life seems to be running in slow motion, and I can’t speed it up no matter what I do. I still think of Brad all the time, but I’m not missing him the way I’m missing Liam. Isn’t that interesting?”

To me this story had more agony than ecstasy. I just can’t like Brad. Everyone else does, Marcy, her friends, her parents, maybe even Linda Burson herself. I really am trying. I was #teamliam all through book 2 but this time he makes some choices and does some things that makes me wonder just what is really going on.

I can tell you this author likes twists! Major twist at the half way mark, another twist before the wedding, minor twist at the wedding, twist with Liam and Marcy, twist with Brad and Marcy. Can you understand the main character’s confusion? agony?

This story had good writing as the first two books did. This story focuses on Marcy’s confusion about loving these two great men. This story has a bittersweet happy ending but I didn’t like it…remember I am #teamliam. I felt no closure with this ending so let’s see what Burson can bring in the next book.

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read a few of the books in the series and you definitely don’t want to pass this by. This boxset has everything you would want. There’s a lot of suspense in these books that will keep you interested.

My favorite is the boxset is book 3 which in Agony and Ecstasy

The series should be read in order to follow the lives of the characters. Marcy is one of the main characters and she has been through a lot of heartbreak and fear in her life. There were 2 men in her life Brad and Liam. Both of which were engaged to Marcy and one point. Marcy has nightmares which start with her not remembering them. Little by little she starts to remember certain things. She’s in a very fragile state and then to top things off, she finds out that Liam, the man she loves…the man she plans to marry has some secrets of his own. Marcy needs to choose which man she will end up with. Brad…Liam…Who knows! This book has a lot of suspense and twists you won’t see coming. I thought the book was written well however, I felt like there were things thrown in that weren’t needed like the author had to meet a word count. The book was fairly long so I know that can’t be the case. I did enjoy reading this book and I’m sure you will too. Please be sure to read the books in order.

Rage

Rage by Linda Burson is the first book in The Marcy Series and it’s certainly one interesting read. There is never a dull moment as its action packed with murder, love, new connections, and new understandings. This book was nothing like I was expecting, there was so much more to it than what I had originally thought. I will admit I found it hard to get into in the beginning as it was a bit confusing and I found the interactions between the characters to be really formal and not as real but as I continued to read I became more and more invested.

There were lots of twists and turns that kept me on my toes, I was constantly trying to predict the outcome, yet time and time again I was wrong and left with so many questions. Marcy was certainly a complex character, she’s angry, aggressive, troubled, and sometimes clueless. Her character really developed throughout this story, and while I didn’t agree with most of her actions she was a fun character to read about.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series so I can see the story through to the end and to get answers to all my questions.

Confusion

Confusion by Linda Burson is book two in her Marcy series, it’s intense, action filled and very intriguing. I would strongly suggest reading this series in order as they cannot be read as standalones. Confusion takes off right where Rage, book one, left off.

I found that this storyline flowed better in comparison to the first. The conversations between the characters were less formal and more natural and there seemed to be more detail in the story.

I still wasn’t able to connect with Marcy as her actions were all over the place and she always jumped into life changing situations with no real thought. Constantly caught between Brad and Liam that she’s stuck living a double life, one that seems a bit unrealistic which made it hard to really connect with her.

With that being said I still want to see where and what Marcy will do next. I will be continuing the series with Book three, Agony and Ecstasy.

Agony & Ecstasy

This is the third book in the Marcy Series, a series that should be read in order as each new book follows the last. I have enjoyed reading along with Marcy’s journey. Though she can be a frustrating character at times I did enjoy her character development. I felt really invested in her story and I’m really happy with how it all played out!!

Just like the first two books this one is action packed, filled with all kinds of drama, emotions, romance, etc. It really is a well-rounded book, one that I was able to read in one sitting!

I look forward to reading more from this author in the future!

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Angela Hayes

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Marcy Series Boxset by Linda Burson contains the first three books in the Marcy Series, and is a fantastic introduction to a great series.
The Boxset contains:

RAGE
4 Stars

Rage is the first instalment of The Marcy series by Linda Burson. After reading The Colors of My Life, I knew I would be reading more of Ms. Burson’s work- so when I saw this I just had to read it.
This book is nothing like I expected. It has so much going on in it, I was trying to figure out where the author was taking the story, but then she would throw in a twist and had me guessing all over again.
Life was going really well for Marcy- right up until the nightmares begin to erode the life she had built for herself. These nightmares are so intense and horrible, that they interfere with her sleep, make her anxious, unpredictable, and impacts on her day to day life. Her lack of sleep gets to a critical point, when her fiancé demands that she do something about it, get some help- or he was leaving her. This pushes Marcy right to the edge, where rage consumes every molecule of her being. Then one night, Marcy happens to be at a gas station on the way home when a gunman tries robbing the store and her. All her rage erupts, and she ends up taking the gunman down.
This brings her to the attention of Liam, who has an agenda of his own, and thinks Marcy would be perfect to help him in his quest. This sets them both on a path that neither expected.
Another great story from Ms. Burson. This romantic suspense is well written with action, drama, some mystery and excitement. I’m looking forward to the next book!

CONFUSION
4 Stars

Confusion is the second book in The Marcy Series by Linda Burson. This book has intrigue, suspense, drama, dilemmas- as well as a love triangle. This story is distinct from the first book, but does have threads from the first story that continue on into this book. So, I would highly recommend reading the first book, Rage, before starting on this one. You will appreciate the story all the more, for having read the books in the correct sequence.
Marcy wants nothing more than to move on with her life, leaving all the tragic details of her life behind her and find a way to heal. But as we have come to learn, things are never quite that easy for Marcy. We discover that there is more to her story, secrets to uncover and dilemmas to work through- to be able to piece everything together. Brad and Liam both have their own issues to contend with as well, which adds some more depth and complexity to the whole story.
It has a fast pace, with a few twists and turn that will give you plenty to think about. Another fantastic addition to this interesting series. I am diving right into the next book to see what the author has in store for the characters, and us!

AGONY AND ECSTASY
5 Stars

Agony and Ecstasy is the intriguing third book in the Marcy Series by Linda Burson. The story continues from book two, so I would recommend reading the first two books before beginning this one. The more this story evolves, the more I am realising how well thought out the entire bridging storyline is. Ms. Burson has infused her story with a lot of suspense, drama, dilemmas, emotion, humour, complex characters in complicated relationships and interactions, and quite a few surprises/surprising developments.
Ms. Burson really writes well, pulling you into the story and keeping you hooked right through to the end. I laughed, cried and got lost in this fabulous story. For me, that is the sign of a skilled writer. I have really enjoyed this series so far, but this is definitely my favourite to date.
The story has a great pace and is easy to read, it evolves beautifully and unexpectedly the further into the story/series I go. The characters have also developed and evolved along with the storyline. They tell an intriguing and very believable tale that I can’t wait to continue in the next book. Marcy, Brad and Liam have been through a lot and in this story, they continue to deal with nightmares, therapy sessions, making major decisions, dealing with shocking revelations, and more.

All this awaits in this awesome Boxset! The rest of the series awaits- bring on the next book/s!

Thank you, Ms. Burson!

THE MARCY SERIES BOXSET: BOOKS 1-3 by Linda J. Burson – Review by Jenni Bishop

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Marcy Series Box Set: Books 1-3 by Linda J Burson is three books of romance stories with a bit of danger, and suspense, twists and turns. Now they are all in one spot and waiting to be read one straight after the other one.

Book 1 Rage is the first book in the Marcy series and there is a whole lot going on in this story, twist and turns at every step of the way. Just when you thought you knew what was happening BAM you were thrown for a loop. This is a romantic thriller full of action and drama, suspense and a whole lot of mystery and murder. Marcy is plagued by horrible nightmares and rage, and she doesn’t know why. Realising things are not as they seem Marcy knows she needs help. But when that helps comes Marcy finds herself in a fight for her own sanity and a path that she never expected.

Book 2 Confusion is the second book and just like the first book here is a whole lot going on. This book will certainly keep you on your toes and on a rollercoaster ride where you don’t know which way is up or down. Confusion is an apt title. This book is a psychological twister that has it all from action and romance, murder and mystery, and lots of dramas and dilemmas. Your emotions will be all over the place, fear and anger, love and angst, hate and happiness. Marcy is trying to face her nightmares and little by little they are coming back but could there be a more that could be behind everything? Could things get much worse than they already are? Will she be able to move on from her past? Will she finally be able to move on in her life?

Book 3 Agony And Ecstasy is the third book and continues on where the second book ended. This book is the culmination of everything coming to a head. Freedom is scary, revenge is ripe and sweet, devastation takes its toll and finally nightmares are finally revealed in full. Love is lost, happiness turns into heartbreak. Agony finds happiness and a broken heart may mend. This story has many, many, many highs and lows and lots of confusion, tears and sorrow, but there is also laughter and surprises. It is a story of three peoples hopes and dreams and unimaginable love. It is also a story about dealing with a past that would destroy even the strongest of us and dealing with the complications of that past to try and find a way to the future.

Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was given a writing assignment in school, at the age of eight. Later, as a teenager, she started out writing memoirs and attempted several nonfiction pieces.

After attending college, she worked in positions where she edited papers for others. She spent time pursuing other interests, and traveling. Much of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.

After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.

After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.

In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing the first chapter. After a few more chapters, she began keeping notes about the details of her characters so she wouldn’t forget the important characteristics. The writing continued, and never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of 13 books in the series.

When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Charlene Yates

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight #2)The Singer and Her Song by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was awesome. I love how the writer adds in the PTSD and anger problems which indicated mental health problems which are not at all easy to manage. This causes Uqnitum’s sons to run away as her mental health and anger takes a major toll on the family. I don’t want to get into it too much and give away spoilers but I think the author Holmes is really able to tune into history and studies up on a subject and culture before trying to write a novel which is really commendable. The novel is extremely well written with high vocabulary usage, and heart wrenching stories all intertwined in one. This isn’t a standalone novel, as it is the second in the series. I love the history in this novel and I think people can misinterpret it to be boring if they don’t allow the scene to be set up for them so you get a glance at what the 13th/14th century looked like, and can actually see the book happening while you read it. Don’t lead others mislead you before you try and read the book with an open mind and a willingness to be taught as it is historical fiction, but not taught forcibly.

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Penelope Taylor

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight #2)The Singer and Her Song by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Singer and Her Song is a very different read and much easier read than The Lightning Horse. It is a story that brings to light the current plight of refugees needing to forge a new identity in a new land while overcoming the trauma of the past. I felt great empathy for all the characters and felt invested in their lives. N.L. Holmes does an excellent job of world-building and making the reader feel like they are in ancient Egypt without needing to spell it out for them. I recommend this book.

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Carly Vogler

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight #2)The Singer and Her Song by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Singer and Her Song by N. L. Holmes is the second book in the Empire at Twilight series.
This is a story that quickly transports you back in time. When your world is turned upside down,
what can you do but survive? Uqnitum is in that very position and has very little to start out with.
Trying to survive after your village has been destroyed is one thing, doing it with children is
a completely different struggle.

There were plenty of times throughout the tale that I struggled with Uqnitum’s controlling behavior
and temper, but there are also some points that I completely aligned with. We are not always
perfect parents. At the end of the day, we still try to do what is best for our families.

This is definitely a story that will tug at your heart strings.
