The Confectioner’s Coup (The Confectioner’s Chronicles) by Claire Luana – Review by Sarah Oakes

The Confectioner's Coup (Confectioner Chronicles, #2)

The Confectioner’s Coup by Claire Luana
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great read about thinking things through. Wren survived the ordeals of the first novel and is trying to resume her normal life. When her and Callidus are on the trail of a Gifted ice cream maker, they are attacked by mysterious men in black. However, the ice cream maker Thom joins them and is a fast friend. As war looms and tensions rise, Guild members start mysteriously disappearing., including Thom. Can Wren and her friends solve the mystery and find Thom before war threatens them all?
a great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. I loved the character development of people such as Calliidus, as a kind and caring man underneath it all or Hale not just being a reckless fool which was brilliantly written. Also the King returns as a spinechilling force to be reckoned with. I loved the use of tension throughout the novel, as conflicts arose for Wren in a fantasy world with its own laws and society and politics.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel and the vivid sense of colour in the blues of the lake and the greens of the islands, and also sun and sand in Hales account of his home later on. Or the wedding scenes with colourful bright and detailed dresses against the dark of the black carriages and Black Guards. which contrasted perfectly.
a great example of building upon a fantasy world in a sequel with the Celestans and their cultures and traditional wedding dresses. Or the Apricans with their Viking like nature and their sea faring ways to explore more to this world outside Maradis. I also loved the use of maps at the start which was a lovely touch and gave a clear location to the reader. Overall, a great read and I would give five stars.

A Pink Christmas Kiss by Allyson R Abbott
4 out of 5 stars
This sweet book is book 3 out of 4 in the in Christmas Kiss series. I love Christmas stories. I get all the warm and fuzzies. In this story, Billie left her small Podunk town for the Big Apple, hoping that the love and light of her life, Leroy, would follow her….long story short…he didn’t. Big egos and load of pride get in the way of finding their happily ever after right then and there.
Five years later, Billie is home to help out her family. She does make the time to meet up with old friends and she runs into Leroy..and discovers that there was a reason behind him not taking the trip East with her.
I love this book. This entire series has been very sweet, sappy and overall adorable. You can easily read this book in one sitting and not lose pace with the characters, stories or details. Recommended for romance novel lovers and those who love seasonal reads.

Book Three is Jessie and Sirena’s book. Jessie is friends with Leah and Cap. When they ask her to just keep watch over the club, Sirena catches her eye and she can’t help but want more. Jessie k owe that Sirena is hiding something and she has to and wants to find out what. Will her heart be able to take anymore heartache or is this the way her life is meant to be?

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night” – Edgar Allen Poe

Gideon’s mom has a dream/vision of a family member passing away in a terrible accident. She is adamant that they go home to Scotland. To make his mother happy he agrees to take her.

After marrying her best friend at 17, Alisabeth has become a widow after less than a year of marriage due to political uproars. When her husbands cousin arrives things take an interesting twist.

When Gideon and Alisabeth meet you can feel the connection between them. As they get to know each other better, things start to build even more between them. Gideon discovers that he has inherited something special from his ancestors.

Will these two get a HEA?

We get humor, action, suspense and so much more. Aubrey Wynne does a great job with her writing and pulls you right in.I really liked Alisabeth, she was a strong character. Gideon quickly grew on me, he was just a lonely guy looking for love and these two together were great. All of the secondary characters were great. I look forward to reading more from this series and author.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Right off the bat I knew i was going to like this book. It was creative and full of drama and sometimes that’s all a girl needs in her life. For being a novella, this book is full of detail and i thought the main characters were awesome. Tuesday runs a food truck in a small town and while out and about one day, she meets Blake at a grocery store and they hit it off. After another chance meeting they start dating. And in walks in troublesome EX. (GO AWAY HATER) The EX starts to make trouble for Tuesday and Blake and things just started to get great. Will they be able to get past the EX’s shenanigans? Will the EX get the kick in the face she deserves?
Overall i really liked this story and i am looking forward to reading more by this author. I would recommend this read to a friend.

A Tangy Christmas Kiss By Allyson R. Abbott. I absolutely love Christmas stories. And this story definitely gave me all the warm feelings of the holiday. This author writes a story that has readers hooked from page one. While it’s on the shorter side I never felt it was lacking anything and it’s filled with sweet moments and entertainment. Mel and Lucas definitely have a connection that readers can feel and connect with. If you like Christmas romance stories then this is a must read and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I’m giving this book a four star review and highly recommend it.

Rhapsody and Rebellion (Enduring Legacy #7)Rhapsody and Rebellion
ByAubrey Wynne
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rhapsody and Rebellion (Enduring Legacy #7) by Aubrey Wynne was a intriguing, interesting historical romance, that had me hooked.

This was my first read from this author and this series. No worries this reads as a standalone, so don’t let that big number seven frighten you. In saying that, I am going to be checking out the other book in this series, because if they are anything like this one then.. girl, I can’t even right now.

Being set in the 1820’s, it was richly detailed and lush, I found myself drawn into this world of the past. Touching on an age that I’m not familiar with, I felt like I was brought there, seeing it, living it like it was that time. I never felt confused or lost, you can tell research went into this read, to make it as authentic as possible.

The overall story is quite the tale, and I found myself not only rooting for the MC’s but I became invested. Want them to have their HEA was a must! So yeah, the feels got involved in this one, and at one point I thought it was all going to go up in smoke. Man you can’t to do that to my heart. Beside the splendid love story, there is war brewing, and that adds another struggled and strong element that rounds out this wonderful read.

This book is a super high recommendation from me. So please take my stamp of approval that you will be drawn into the distance past, and fall hard for this couple that are trying to fight the odds.

Happy Reading

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Only this Tuesday night written by Melissa Keir was a very fast paced romance.

Blake The mayor of Copper Mills had broken off his engagement to Judith. Now they are friends with benefits but she is still trying to change him.
Once they are finally broken apart Judith comes him explaining news she heard which isn’t really news after all. Judith is trying to tell the Mayor there is a woman on a food truck who has a “special kid working there” the woman in question is Tuesday from
Tuesday’s Tacos. Tuesday really cares about kids who don’t have an easy life. Who need people to treat them right. Judith keeps on harassing Tuesday but Karma will soon be looking for Judith. Tuesday will win the hearts of all who hear the story. As if that’s not bad enough, she will even end up with the man Judith thought she was going to marry.

Personally I think the book moved way to quickly.

THE CHANGEUP (a resort romance novel book 6) by Mary Billiter

Four Stars

The Changeup is filled with a lot of mystery and drama. It wasn’t really exciting but it did have me wanting to know what happened. Rebel really got my interest. She is living two lives and is have almost an identity crisis. I liked how she had no filter about what she thought and how she wanted to be treated. Rebel said what she thought and it was refreshing. McCutie was also a favorite he plays a great knight in a delivery uniform lol. I would’ve like to see more character development and background. The side characters were great I like Da Nise lol. I couldn’t get over that part. Ria seems like a very likable but insecure character. Over all I enjoyed it for what it was.

A Tangy Christmas Kiss by Allyson R. Abbott
5 out of 5 stars
A Tangy Christmas kiss is the second book in this series written by Allyson Abbott. Is a wonderful romantic holiday book. It weaves a story that has you laughing and feeling the magic and romance in others through the holidays. It also shows the importance of family and what you would do for family. The characters are amazing…. The plot is great and I love the description and details this author puts into her story/stories. They feel so believable that I had a hard time putting this book down.
Mel, gets a call from her mother requesting, that she flies to Spain to house sit for her aunt. To be honest, she’s glad for a change of scenery after recent turn of events with her latest boyfriend, and she is looking forward to Christmas in the sun, planning to spend many days on the beach. Let the fun begin.
The journey takes forever due to misunderstanding of the different timelines and consequently Mel misses her ‘handover’ of tasks and a lift from her aunt. Jetlag, lack of the Spanish language and having no knowledge of geography of Spain, all she has is her aunt’s address, a headache and an overwhelming urge to sleep.
While on her flight she meets an extremely sexy Spanish passenger who is seated next to her on her flight. He takes her under his wing to make sure she arrives safely and stays to help her out, even though he only speaks Spanish, so Mel has no idea what he is talking about. But hey, you can’t turn away a great looking man in your hour of need!
As things turn bad to worse, she now doubles up on handsome hero’s, as her aunt’s friendly (extremely gorgeous and English speaking) neighbor, decides that it is he, who should be helping, not the interloper from the airplane.
Mel should have question why her mother couldn’t go? Why her mother is never there when she calls? And why her aunts needs a house-sitter for a bungalow on the beach?
You need to read this awesome story and find out what happens to Mel and her men. Who will she pick can she even decide?

A Second Chance (The Powder River Pack #1)A Second Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Brooke May’s A Second Chance is the first book in the Powder River Pack series. This story is a paranormal contemporary romance featuring shifters. The author quickly sets the scenes and begins with character introductions along with some backstory to give the story more detail and depth. There was something about Derek’s character throughout the story that just spoke to me and pushed me through chapter after chapter. Annabelle is Derek’s other have and seeing the struggle along with the back and forth that ensues, it pulls at the heartstrings. Brooke May really drew on the emotional card to create a captivating story that introduces the start of what is bound to be an enthralling series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beats of the Heart is the first book in a new series called Lyrical Odyssey Rock Star Series. While it’s the first book, it seems as if there is a lot of information that would have been written in a prequel. The author does explain that the story doesn’t start at the beginning of their relationship so we are clued in from the start.

The story is about first love, that first love that you think is going to last forever. It is told in present and past tense and from dual POV’s.

The characters are evolving through the story and I look forward to watching their story conclude.

In addition to the story, this book has an amazing sound track. I always enjoy listening to the music an author envisions in their story. I have this one downloaded and listen on shuffle

Rhapsody and Rebellion by Aubrey Wynne – Review by Shannon Fowler

Rhapsody and Rebellion (Enduring Legacy #7)Rhapsody and Rebellion by Aubrey Wynne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Here’s a book about a family fighting to save themselves and their beliefs. A family trying to protect the innocent and the ones they love. “It’s an honor and a heavy burden. And I wish to all the saints that I could save ye from both.”

This is my first book by Wynne and what a great start! This story includes mystery, death, rebellion, The Legacy and even second chances. People protesting the government is not a new age situation. It goes back many years, in this story’s case back to the 1700’s.

I really liked the details of this story. The way the characters talked made sure we knew they were from Scotland and/or England. The style of writing kept me turning the pages, wondering if they would survive, if they would save their loved ones. I look forward to reading more from Wynne. I can definitely recommend this book.

I was nineteen when I became Jayden’s knight in shining armour, her Paladin. At only fourteen, she developed a teenage crush on me, the man who rescued her. I gave her time to grow, waiting for her feelings to mature. As years, when I was forbidden to touch her, passed, I never doubted she was mine. I just wasn’t allowed to show it. Circumstances send us to Colorado, away from the restrictions and over-protective brothers. At last we have a chance to be together. What could be better? What could be worse? A new club. A new life. Out of my depth, I don’t fit in. A different president and his old lady who’ve been married thirty-six years. That their marriage is on shaky ground spills over into how they treat us. For some reason, Hellfire and Moira want to force Jayden and I apart. Jay and I are just beginning. Or, is it the end? After all this time, will we make it work? Or have the years I’ve spent waiting been wasted?

After commuting for too many years to London working in various senior management roles, Manda left the rat race and now fulfills her dream and writes fulltime.  She draws on her background in psychology, the experience of working indifferent disciplines and personal life experiences in her books. Manda lives in the beautiful countryside of North Essex with her husband and two slightly nutty Irish Setters.  Walking her dogs gives her the thinking time to come up with plots for her novels, and she often dictates ideas onto her phone on the move, while looking over her shoulder hoping no one is around to listen to her.  Manda’s other main hobby is reading, and she devours as many books as she can.  Her biggest fan is her gay son (every mother should have one!).  Her favourite pastime when he is home are the late night chatting sessions they enjoy, where no topic is taboo, and usually accompanied by a bottle of wine or two.

Only This Tuesday ( A Copper Mills Novella) by Melissa Keir – Review by Heather Bass

Only This Tuesday: A Copper Mills Novella

Only This Tuesday: A Copper Mills Novella by Melissa Keir

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read from this author and now she has a new fan. I love a good small town romance but this author exceeded all my expectations. This book is anything but small it has everything a real story has and more. I could not stop reading this book. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters. It only took me a little over an hour to devour this amazing story.

Tuesday Benson moved to Copper Mills to get a fresh new start on life. She lost her mother, business, and her boyfriend. When she finds out that her boyfriend did the ultimate betrayal she had no choice but to move. Tuesday loves the small town life. She owns her own little food truck that is taking off really well. Tuesday is way too busy to keep up with everything so she hires a boy to help her. One day she is shopping for some ingredients and she runs into a very handsome man. She doesn’t realize that she runs into the mayor Blake Rogers. Tuesday doesn’t understand why she keeps on thinking about Blake but he keeps on showing up in her life. Will Tuesday have the right ingredients to make real love come to life or will their pasts break them apart?

I absolutely loved this book. This storyline has it all romance, drama, and humor. You will fall in love with these characters right from the beginning. Tuesday is a beautiful woman that has a heart of gold. She doesn’t want to get hurt so she puts her walls up. Blake is a perfect gentleman. He is a very powerful man but he doesn’t take it for granted. These characters have some steamy scenes that will make your temperature rise. This author brings up some delicate moments but she does it so beautifully it will make your heart melt. I can’t wait to see what is next for this small town.

A Prickly Christmas KissA Prickly Christmas Kiss by Allyson R. Abbott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Prickly Christmas Kiss, by Allyson R. Abbott, is a seasonal treat for the holiday season. The character names, location and theme truly give a feel for the holiday season. From the beginning, the author has provided a story that just blankets you with the pages as you read. From the soul(s) that are disenchanted, to the paths that feel as if fate is pushing forward, and just the magical time of year – it all adds together to give this story just the perfect mix of warmth and seasonal joy. The addition of some comedic moments throughout gave just enough to the story not to feel over done. I absolutely adored ELF’s character and her personality, she really made this story fun, as well as, all the supporting characters.

Another great installment to this series. While Kat and Chase try to move forward after her declining of Chases proposal, other events from previous books are now coming to a head.
I really liked this book but I also want more from Chase. I need in his head! I get the protectiveness in some cases but sometimes its over the top and I want to know why. And the whole fiasco in this book that Kat went through could’ve been avoided if he just spoke to her.
The spark between these two is undeniable and I can understand the pull Kat feels and why she just can’t stay away. The heart wants what it wants regardless of what your head is saying to you.
I cant wait to see how this series ends and if we will get the happy ending they desperately need! Keep them coming!

Forgetting Ophelia: A Novel by Julie C. Gardner

This is my first book by this author and I completely fell in love with it. The storyline although something I hope I never have to understand aside from reading about it was awesome and the writing style had me at word one.

This had a mixture of all the feels, I smiled, I even laughed a bit here and there, it had sadness, confusion, and my favorite determination. This author took me on a journey through watching your life get totally turned upside down and everything it took to right itself again. The emotions she had Lia feeling came through loud and clear and I felt them all. Lia was an amazing character and has now been added to my list of favorites.

One thing my husband and I pride ourselves on is our communication skills and we are both believers in it being the only key to a successful marriage and if that had just been practiced in this story, well…… then there might not have been a story so I’m glad it turned out like it did. LOL

This was a fantastic book and I can’t wait to see what else is available by this author and am so confused as to why I haven’t read any of her books before now.

Loved It!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Star
A Prickly Christmas Kiss By Allyson Abbott is an amazingly wonderful Christmas Romance short story that I absolutely loved. I couldn’t put it down once I started. It’s very heart warming story about Emma aka Elf. Instead of Elf dealing with her family and the questions she knows they will ask, she decides to spend two weeks in a cabin with her best friend. When her friend can’t come what will Elf do? Will she stay or leave? Will she be able to learn to build a fire and survive the storm? Elf has some company, a stray cat has decided to keep her company. When the local vet stops by what happens? Can Elf stay away from him? There is definitely attraction. Find out what happens with Elf. I highly recommend reading this book. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

4 Stars!!!!

Wow is what comes to mind first. This is the second book in the series and I was not disappointed. I was just glued to the pages to see how things would unfold. The author really has a refreshing style and the world she has created really grabs you and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The chemistry between Aiden and Laurie just heats up more in this book and the drama that unfolds around them really adds to the whole dynamic. I was drawn in as Laurie’s past comes back into play and how things get resolved. The whole undertone of the book of the mob and corruption really just adds to the story. I found myself really routing for Aiden and Laurie. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

A Pink Christmas Kiss by Allyson R Abbott – Review by Kerry Baker

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Pink Christmas Kiss by Allyson R Abbott is the third book in her Christmas Kiss series. Each of these books can be read as a stand-alone and they are all as good as each other.
For me this has to have been the sweetest story out of them all so far. Small town romance gone wrong. It had everything you could want out of this type of book. Billie and Leroy are exactly how I imagine small town characters to be.
Like the others, this book was an easy read, that was perfect to just get lost in for a few hours. Another enjoyable story.

Only This Tuesday: A Copper Mills Novella by Melissa Keir – Review by Kerry Baker

Only This Tuesday: A Copper Mills NovellaOnly This Tuesday: A Copper Mills Novella by Melissa Keir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Only This Tuesday: A Copper Mills novella by Melissa Keir is a quick and easy read.
A Mayor and a Taco Truck owner, there shouldn’t be any problems there. However throw in a bit of controversy and a lot of small town gossip and things won’t be quite so plain sailing.
This was a completely new author for me and I have to say I enjoyed the easy, flowing style that her writing showcased. The characters were enjoyable and relatable and the story was a fun and interesting one. This was a relatively quick read but it never felt like I was missing anything from the story. This was a great book and I am looking forward to seeing more of Melissa’s work.

Rhapsody and Rebellion By Aubrey Wynne – Review by Emily Brockschmidt

Rhapsody and Rebellion (Enduring Legacy #7)Rhapsody and Rebellion by Aubrey Wynne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Rhapsody and Rebellion: Once Upon a Widow” is a lovely story surrounding multiple riots in England and Scotland in the late 18th century. Our hero, Gideon, Earl of Stanfeld, has to take his recently widowed mother, Maeve, back to her home in the Scottish Highlands following a disturbing dream. There he meets the young widow to his cousin, the lovely Alisabeth. I stumbled upon this book recently and hesitated reading it as I don’t normally like to start a series in the middle, however this is not your normal book series. All of the books are written by different authors and occupy different times of the same family line so the books aren’t necessarily in order or follow the same people. The foreward recommends reading the first book to understand the series, but I feel Aubrey Wynne did a wonderful job explaining the back story necessary to understanding her story. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this book, especially the headstrong Scottish women! Alisabeth, Maeve and the other women in the family were a joy to read about! They are bold and unashamed by it and I loved it! I also loved the family connection that is shared between select members (I don’t want to give anything away but it is a really neat touch to the story as it is the underlying theme through the series.) All in all, this historical fiction was right up my alley and now I’m itching to read more about this family! So, I give “Rhapsody and Rebellion” five stars!

Only This Tuesday: A Copper Mills Novella by Melissa Keir – Review by Angela Shirley

Only This Tuesday: A Cooper Mills Novella by Melissa Keir is a lovely heart warming story about a small town which has some issues but generally welcomes everyone until one person decides to have a smear campaign against some residents.

Tuesday Benson has had a pretty crap life until now, she has had her ups and downs. Her ex boyfriend betrayed her, her mother was gone and her business collapsed so what will she do to recover from this mess she is in. So she decides to move to the sleepy town of Cooper Mills, with their budding tourist trade she decides to open a controversial business idea, a food truck.

As her business grows, she catches the eye of the mayor in town Blake, he has tried to use his power of mayor to promote this town as a tourist destination but his interest in Tuesday does not go unnoticed by Blake’s ex fiancee who tries to ruin Blake’s reputation within the town and tries to derail the relationship is Tuesday. Will they be able to overcome the issues and be able to continue with their relationship.

I loved this story. It was heart warming and well written, the characters offer so much and the chemistry between these characters was great. I loved the way the author tackled some of the quite topically subjects, that how she does not preach but gives both sides of each characters point of view. This is the first book I have read by this author, I will definitely be reading more in the future.

Hope’s Deceit (The Fated Series Book #2) by Angela McPherson – Review by Angela Hayes.

Hope's Deceit (The Fated #2)Hope’s Deceit by Angela McPherson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Little by little, normal slipped farther away.”

“Remember, fear keeps you from being who you truly are. Embrace your fate.”

Hopes Deceit is the second book in The Fated series by Angela McPherson. This is a spellbinding fantasy, with paranormal elements, Greek Mythology, a Curse, Immortals, Light and dark, good vs evil, mystery, drama, destiny, action, adventure, suspense, danger, intrigue, magic, and some romance. This incredible story is woven around the legend of Pandora’s Box and it’s a wonderfully original and exciting read! As I said in my review of the first book, this story/series definitely has a ‘Percy Jackson’ feel to it, and would make an exciting television series.
We catch up with Trinity, Blain and the rest of the cast as the story picks up not long after the events of book one ended. They are still coming to terms with what happened and almost losing everything during their confrontation with Melia. Trinity is still adjusting to her powers. She worries that things are changing, within herself, with Blain, her family and friends. Some things come as shocking revelations, while others she’s not quite sure how to ‘fix’ it. With an evil ‘darkness’ making its presence known, Trinity will have to utilise all her training and new-found ‘power’ if they are to defeat the threat, and survive.
I absolutely love Ms. McPherson’s books, and this series has become one of my absolute favourites, ever!! From the incredible world building, to the wonderful mythology that was woven through the story- this book really gave me an exciting reading experience that I didn’t want to end. The characters are really superb- so well developed and given ‘life’ by Ms. McPherson- and were crafted into fully realised individuals with their own personalities, quirks and flaws. Trinity learns quite a lot over the course of this story, about herself, Blain, her family, and friends- I loved seeing her continue to grow and develop as the story unfolds.
As with the first book, Ms. McPherson was so imaginative and clever in creating this plot/series- adding lots of seemingly small, intricate, and inter-connected details that built the mystery, suspense and tension of the story so incredibly well. I spent a lot of the time on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen and trying to put all the pieces together. Then there were the surprising developments and twists which added another layer of intrigue and excitement to the whole. My mind was reeling trying to predict how the story would play out! And that ending…. OMG!!!
The story is set to continue in Book #3, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!!
Pure perfection!!!!

Thank You, Ms. McPherson!!
