Truly Unfortunate (Welcome to Knollville Book 1) by C. A. King – Review by Emma Morreale

Truly Unfortunate (Welcome To Knollville Book 1)Truly Unfortunate by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Truly has no memory of her childhood. Life is pretty bad for her now, so what could her brain possibly consider so bad that her memories refuse to come forward? Jeff is a detective who is seeing deeply disturbing patterns in deaths and will stop at nothing to find the connections between them. Each of them will need to decide which is the lesser of two evils.
This paranormal thriller kept me on the edge of my seat and up at night. I absolutely agree with the warning that is for mature audiences but that could be because I have a pretty over active imagination especially in the worst case scenario department.
C.A. King is a fantastic writer and if you enjoy this book, you should read The Portal Prophecies and The Four Horseman series.

Once Upon a Romance (A Dream Come True, #1)Once Upon a Romance by Alex Bailey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once Upon a Romance by Alex Bailey is the first book in A Dream Come True series. This book has everything you could want – romance, Disney magic and Christmas magic.
It is an emotional book about a little girl who has lost her mum and her aunts determination to make the first Christmas without her special. The author tells the story so well it is easy to imagine what the characters are going through.
Christmas story’s are not my favourite ones by any stretch but there was something about this book that just drew me in. It is easy to read but difficult to put down once you’ve started. A great book and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Hope’s Decree by Angela McPherson

I have read other books from this author and have never been disappointed so it was an easy choice for me to pick up and read. I love this book! When I finished reading it, I knew that I had found another series that I would love. I can’t wait to read the other two books.

I enjoy when authors are able to intertwine mythology into their storyline. This one was phenomenal! It was an original take on Pandora’s box. Trinity is a descendant of Pandora and she must learn how to wield her powers and save mankind. It’s a little much for Trinity to accept seeing as she’s just trying to get through her senior year of high school. I liked Trinity a lot. She was strong yet weak, brave and insecure. She didn’t want to cause trouble but she stood her ground and didn’t let people walk all over her. Being only seventeen, her emotions were all over the place and she was constantly changing her mind about being with Blain. It was a little frustrating.

Blain is a drop dead gorgeous guy who happens to be Trinity’s guardian. He is her protector and he has to teach her how to use her powers. You can see that he really loves her too but Blain is just as stubborn as her. Indecision between doing his duty and wanting to be with Trinity as more than her guardian. He doesn’t want her with anyone else either. This leads to some interesting scenes.

Morpheus has to be my favourite character even though he’s a bad guy. He has the dark looks that I like and he’s sarcastic and funny. There are many layers to him which I love.

This story has many twists and turns which constantly kept me on my toes. The fight scenes added fast paced action which felt like I was watching a movie. The characters were down to earth and relatable which had me cheering them on. The book was creative and kept me captivated until the very end. It doesn’t end in a cliffhanger but it is an open ending which will lead into book two. I’m very excited to read the next one in the series.

Climbing The Walls (Hart & Cole Book 1) by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné – review by Maura Harper

Climbing The Walls (Hart & Cole Book 1)Climbing The Walls by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What an epic drama this story is. From the first page to the last, this story is full of emotion and life. CLIMBING THE WALLS at times was too realistic and I found myself with deep sadness that I had to explore when I was done reading.

The precocious daughter brought an unexpected later to the story that made me smile every time she opened her mouth.

While the time framework takes place in a short amount of time it is chock full of events that can change the course of a life.

The author is very detailed in the writing and at times I found may skipping though some of it to find out what happens next.

It was an enjoyable read that is a departure from my”normal” one sit reads.

Venganza: The Fuentes Legacy
By: Greta Cribbs
5 out of 5 stars

The story Venganza: The Fuentes Legacy by Greta Cribbs is a thrilling book that I enjoyed reading. It had me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. It is a story that drew me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until I had read the final page. It is a story about a family’s legacy and the love that two people have for each other. The Fuentes family is one that has secrets. Magic and a legacy that they are willing to kill to protect. Leo Fuentes left the family and does everything in his power to make sure that his father never finds his son, Damian. Even with his best efforts Damian is found, kidnapped and tortured. Leo is a father that feels guilt for not being able to be a part of his son’s life and now that pain is further compounded by what has happened to Damian. Damian is a man that has feelings of abandonment by his father. He has a wonderful relationship with the one he loves, Jenn. Will his kidnapping and the aftermath change that relationship, or will Damian’s and Jenn’s bond prove to be unshakeable? Read this story to see what happens when Damian is kidnapped and how it all turns out for him and Jenn. This story is a prequel. It gives a look into the raw emotions that the characters of Damian and Jenn feel. You can’t help but be moved by what they go through. They are two characters that I loved in the story before this one and this prequel made me love them even more. The way that the story is written I felt like I was right there with the characters. There were times that were suspenseful, and I had to remind myself to breathe. You also get to read about how Leo Fuentes feels about his son and his family. There are additional characters that are introduced in the story and I enjoyed reading about the part that they play and their interactions with Damian and Jenn. There are scenes in this story that are very intense and others that warmed my heart. This is a story that I would recommend reading.

5 out of 5 stars

The Eastern Shore Swingers Books 1-3 (Boxed Set) are wonderful stories to read. They are books that I loved and have amazing characters. One thing I liked is that the characters from the previous stories appear in the next book. They are all like a large family and I love how when one of them is in trouble or needs help the others lend their support. Romance is in the air with the characters in these books. Sometimes the characters feelings/emotions are conflicted, and then other times obstacles arise that must be overcome. The women in these stories are beautiful, smart, independent and sassy. The men are handsome and charming. There are plenty of steamy scenes included in this box set and will have the temperature in the room rising. Once I started each story, I found that I couldn’t put it down for long as I wanted to know what happened next and if there was a happy ending. Besides the main characters there are many additional characters that you are introduced to in the stories and I enjoyed reading about the part that each one played and their interactions with the main characters. Don’t miss out on this box set which had me turning pages. The stories do introduce you to an alternative lifestyle that is lived. It does bring attention to the fact that not all are so accepting of this lifestyle and the club the Factory along with those who go there try to keep a low profile. The set is intended for mature audiences.

5 out of 5 stars

The story The Debt Collector: An Underground Bad Boys Romance by India Kells is a book that I loved reading. It is a story with steamy scenes that will make the temperature in the room rise and you will be reaching for a cold glass of water. I loved reading about the characters of Dr. Tessa Freeman and Locke. Tessa is a woman who is caring and has a large heart. When a patient comes in and needs help she will provide it, even if it means that she may be in danger. Tessa has found herself taken by a slave ring after she helps some girls in the ER where she works. Locke is the man that rescues Tessa. He also is both mysterious and distant. He has offered Tessa a deal to keep her safe from the slave ring. The terms of that deal are not what Tessa would have ever expected. These two are both attracted to each other. There is electricity when they are together and the lust they feel for each other is very evident. Add in Locke’s best friend Gage, and there is enough heat to burn the building they are in down to the ground. Is lust all that Tessa feels? Will she find out the secrets that Locke keeps? What does the future hold? Will Tessa finally no longer have to worry about the slave ring? Read this book to find out what happens. I was intrigued by Locke’s friend Gage. He is an underground cage fighter and their friendship includes a strong bond of friendship and sometimes a lot more goes on when they are together. I love that Tessa is a strong and independent woman. She is a character that I loved from the start of the book. This is a book that is wonderful to read and one that I would recommend.

Once Upon a Romance (A Dream Come True #1) by Alex Bailey – Review by Ashleigh Whitwell

Once Upon a Romance (A Dream Come True, #1)Once Upon a Romance by Alex Bailey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once Upon a Romance is the first instalment of the A Dream Come True series and, simply put, it is the perfect romance read. If you’re starting to get in the Christmas spirit, or just love a holiday read, this is exactly the read you need. It has a cute child, plenty of romance and is set in the most magical place on earth, Disneyland!

Our leading lady, Sophie, is everything her sister wasn’t, including not being a Disney fan. So when her niece, Ariel, reveals her Christmas wish is to spend the holidays at her recently deceased mother’s favourite place, Sophie begrudgingly agrees. And then the miracles start. Not only does Sophie manage to find a hotel room for her and Ariel at such short notice, she’s also able to make sure her boyfriend, Dean, can join them, too. As for Sophie and Dean’s relationship, I’ll let you make your own minds up!

This book has magical written all over it. From the setting to the characters, I just fell in love with everything about this read. While at its core it’s dealing with quite a difficult issue, the loss of a family member, this author doesn’t let this overshadow the amount of love between the characters. Rick and Ariel’s bond is one of my favourite elements of this book and I loved reading the scenes where they were together. The change in Sophie’s character was also something I loved, especially when it came to her life and romance choices; no spoilers her, but I was rooting for her to get her happy ending!

If I wasn’t already feeling Christmassy, I definitely am now. In fact, I’ve gone and put my Christmas tree up! This is a feel-good read and could quite happily sit here all night and tell you just how much I loved it. Instead, I’m going to tell you how much you should go and grab your own copy and snuggle up a blanket and devour it in one go. I did just this and can safely say, it was a Saturday afternoon well-spent! I cannot wait to read the rest of this series and now have a new author to fall in love with!

This book is the second story in The Killmore Series and cannot be read as a stand-alone. I loved both of these books! This one was just as good as the first one. Maybe even better. This was a suspenseful novel that kept me on my seat until the very end. I would enjoy to read more by this author and I would recommend this book to a friend!

Climbing The Walls (Hart & Cole Book 1)Climbing The Walls by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Climbing The Walls is one of those books I wouldn’t suggest starting if you have things that you need to do because it will LITERALLY consume you. There is no such thing as stopping at the end of a chapter and you’ll pick it up later. I promise you’ll keep on reading through! This book had everything in it from steamy scenes, humor and heart!

Nicole was an interesting character and I think one that we can really relate to. She is a perfectionist. She wants to do everything (job, motherhood, being a wife) with the utmost perfection but unfortunately she is awful at balancing it all. She made that really relatable as we all try to be everything to everyone and sometimes (maybe most) its difficult to obtain.

Kris is her husband and I loved him. He dotes on her and the kids but carries a lot of self doubt and has issues with communication but the love is there.

I won’t lie, a little bit of me is dying inside as I wait for the next book which I have no doubt will consume me just as much as this one has!

The Killmores (Killmores Book 2) by Martha Sweeney – Review by Karyn Taylor

The Killmores (Killmore #2)The Killmores by Martha Sweeney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Killmores is the thrilling conclusion to the Killmore Series by Martha Sweeney. I am totally in love with this book and the series as a whole. Martha Sweeney has written a fantastic series. This book is not intended to be read as a stand-alone. You need to read Killmore first.
This book had absolutely everything. It was action packed from the very first page and filled with so much suspense and angst. You will be on the edge of your seat throughout. After reading the first book I said that I thought that Laurie was the most amazing bad ass female lead I had ever read. She didn’t disappoint in this second book, in fact she became even more sassy. Although we did see a more vulnerable side to her in this book but this made her character even more endearing. I also fell more in love with Aiden in this book. For such an alpha man, he can also be a total sweetheart too.
The Killmores will take you on the most amazing rollercoaster journey. There are so many ‘what the hell!’ moments. There are also moments where tissues may be required.
If you haven’t guessed it, I LOVE this book and would recommend this series to everyone.

A Second Chance (The Powder River Pack Series Book #1) by Brooke May – Review by Angela Hayes

A Second Chance (The Powder River Pack #1)A Second Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Second Chance is the first book in The Powder River Pack Series by Brooke May. It is a great paranormal romance, with second chances, werewolves, action, anger, bitterness, heartache, pain, passion, secrets, lies, trust issues, conflict, drama, and more.
Annabelle Daniels is a successful wildlife photographer whose work takes her all over the world. Annabelle loves what she does, she’s worked hard to get to where she is, especially being able to work alongside her best friend Spence. She is highly respected in her field and has built a great life. But there is a part of her that feels incomplete and lonely. She often thinks about her childhood home, the place she left with her mother, when her parents divorced years ago- leaving her heart behind in the process. She hasn’t been back since, but when she is called to take care of her dying fathers affairs, she has no choice but to venture back to the place that holds such painful memories.
Derek Sumerland is a werewolf who has a very painful past. His experiences have left him angry and bitter- a difficult man to be around. He lost his joy for life, now getting by day to day, but not really living. You see, Derek thought he’d found his mate for life, back when he was on 13 years-old. She was his everything, the light in his life. Then she up and left him, shattering his heart in the process. He is a broken man, haunted by dreams of the woman he loved. So, imagine his shock to see her walk into the bar where he works. What happens you ask? Well, you really should read all the exciting details for yourself!
I really enjoyed this story and reading Ms. Mays take of the shifter/werewolf lore. The characters are well developed, interesting, and endearing (except for the one we’re meant to hate)- I especially loved meeting Grandma Pearl, she added an extra element of fun to the story and pretty much stole any scene she was in.
The only real issue I had (and it is just my own preference I suppose) was with the repeated information at the beginning of each perspective transition/change over- going over some of the same information we’d just read, but from the other characters perspective. Apart from being frustrating, it just slowed down the flow for me. But this is somewhat of a minor issue and didn’t really detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story.
I am really looking forward to reading all the other ‘pack’ members stories- starting with Alpha Mason, in the next book. Can’t wait!

Thank you, Ms. May!

Distant Memory: She Remembered Everything (Solum Series Book #3) by Colleen S. Myers – Review by Angela Hayes

Distant MemoryDistant Memory by Colleen S. Myers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Distant Memory is the third book in the Solum series by Colleen S. Myers. It is a science fiction/fantasy story with action, adventure, aliens, magic, revenge, romance, conflict, friendship, suspense, emotion, and drama. This follows on from book #1 and #2, as the story continues from one book to another, so I really recommend reading the first two book before starting on this one- in order to have all the backstory, character information, and other relevant details, which will help you better appreciate this story.
This story has an intense, raw and gritty ‘race-against-time” component to it that really had me wondering how things would play out. It picks up where book two left off, and even though it was a little ‘slower’ to get going than the other two books, it is still a great read. There is some repetitive details and information which also made the story ‘lag’ at times.
As with the first book, the world building is excellent, with wonderful descriptions and details. The characters were well crafted, interesting and original- we catch up with characters we know, as well as meeting some new ones. The story was ‘tied up’ somewhat at the end, but I still have questions and things I want to know. I don’t know if there will be more books, but I certainly hope so.
Another great instalment in the series.
Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Myers does next!

Thank you, Ms. Myers!

The Confectioner’s Coup (The Confectioner Chronicles Book #2) by Claire Luana – Review by Angela Hayes

The Confectioner's Coup (Confectioner Chronicles, #2)The Confectioner’s Coup by Claire Luana
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Confectioner’s Coup is the second book in The Confectioner Chronicles by Claire Luana. This book/series is an exceptionally good fantasy story, intricately woven with action, adventure, danger, mystery, suspense, humour, fun, heartache, tension, conflict, hostile enemies, disappearances, investigations, and a sprinkle of romance. I adore Ms. Luana’s books, and this series is no exception- so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and continue the story. To say I had high expectations would be an understatement, but I just knew Ms. Luana wouldn’t let me down- and she definitely didn’t.
The story is multi-faceted and incredibly detailed, with wonderful descriptions and masterful world-building bringing the whole story to life right before my eyes. The characters are so beautifully crafted- fully realised individuals who continue to develop and grow over the course of the story. Once again Ms. Luana proves her mastery of language and storytelling, bringing another fascinating and spellbinding story into ‘being’! I was so captivated by this wonderful story, that I read it all in one sitting- completely enthralled from beginning to end.
All I can say is WOW!
Bring on Book #3!

Thank you for creating this wonderful story/series Ms. Luana!

Truly Unfortunate (Welcome To Knollville Book 1)Truly Unfortunate by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book left me on the edge of my seat the entire time! Truly Unfortunate is the first book in the Welcome to Knollville series by C.A. King. Truly doesn’t quite remember certain things from her childhood. Her doctor’s say that she might be repressing her memories. But she doesn’t understand why and when people start dying she gets so confused. In comes Jeff…Jeff is the county’s sheriff. However, when things start to go down he has no choice but to investigate and work the puzzle that is happening in that town. The story starts to become interesting and twisted. It is also pretty dark and pretty raw. This book is considered a paranormal thriller. There are so many twists and turns that you have to continue to read in order to find out what happens. I love murder/psychological mysteries and this definitely did not disappoint. I loved the characters and the way that the author sucks you in and doesn’t allow you to leave. It had a way of thinking that Truly must be as crazy as she thinks she is. This book is definitely a page turner so be prepared to not put this book down until you are finished! You become a part of this storyline because it feels so real! I cannot wait for the next book in the series! I definitely need to find out what happens next! Definitely a home run for this author! Two thumbs up with an absolute yes on a must read!
