Caught in Cross Seas (book 1 in Caught series) by Sharleen Scott – Review by Birna Bjornsdottir

Caught in Cross SeasCaught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished reading Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott – book 1 in the Caught Series.

Harlie Cates found friends and roots in Angel Beach, Oregon. Something she really needed but wasn’t sure she could have.

After escaping an abusive husband, she just wants peace, solitude and a safe life.

Clay Masterson is much more than a famous country singer.
He is also a man in search of his father.

Normally, when you hear that sentence, you figure that person is looking for a relationship that they feel they lost out on.

Clay Masterson, not so much. He wants to find his father so he can get some answers.

Harlie is involved in more than just her bakery, she is fighting another fight of her own.

Neither one of them is looking for a relationship – but the chemistry is so strong, they might not have a choice but to explore their feelings further, but will it be right for them?

I absolutely LOVED this book! The characters, the setting, the situations they find themselves in, everything!

When I decide to write a review, I usually do so right after reading the book – but I have to admit that I was looking for the second book in this series, before it even occurred to me to sit down and write a review for this one – THAT’S how hooked I was!

Sharleen Scott is definitely an author I will be bookmarking, subscribing to and looking for!
Her writing style is beautiful and I was in this ride from start to finish, not wanting it to end!

5 stars from me!

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1)Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book one) by Carrie Dalby is an amazing 4 star read for me.

Diving into the depth of historic romance of courtship, scandal and the family that’s good high standing within society. Back to the days of being escorted to balls, accompanied to tea and never being alone with a man if your were a young beautiful attractive women.

Lucy and Alex are the most unlikely couple you’d expect but their courtship is something most girls/women only ever dream of happening in this time.

Carrie has captured the realm of historic romance to a tee and this is a well written start to what I can only imagine being a great series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finding Juniper by Sadia Ash is finally here!! I feel like I have been waiting forever for this gem!! I was so heartbroken (in the best kind of way) after the way the last book ended. It left a lasting feeling that kept me wondering what happened to Juniper and Kyle. I can relate so much to being in love with someone who loves being in control (not as much as Kyle). Finding Juniper was the closure I needed for this series! I can’t wait to see what Sadia Ash puts out next!!

Pandora's Poison (Hart & Cole Book 2)Pandora’s Poison by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Pandora’s Poison by Sacha T.Y. Fortune is the second book in the Hart and Cole series. This is a series that really does need to be read in order as the story is a continuation throughout and you would miss far too much detail to start part way through.
This book is as thrilling and complex as the first book. The author takes us further into her characters lives and explores the different facets of marriage. She highlights well the troubles that many people themselves face which is partly why the characters are so relatable. Even if not all of their experience matches yours there is enough that will resonate anyway.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing what book three has to offer!

Caught in Cross Seas (The Caught Series book 1) By Sharleen Scott. This story definitely put its hooks in me from page one and I couldn’t put it down until the end. This is a new author for me and I can’t wait to read more. Harlie and Clay are characters I loved watching interact with each other, each having their own story to tell. The author does a wonderful job of writing a story that kept me guessing and turning pages as fast as possible to see what happens next. It’s well written and paced nicely, never feeling rushed or lacking anything. The author does a great job of giving attention to details and the emotions written into the story. It played out like a movie before my eyes and I love books that can do that. I’m excited to see where the author takes readers next. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to everyone.

HOLY MOLY BATMAN – WHAT DID I JUST READ???? CAN I GIVE THIS 50 STARS?

“The word addiction could have a thousand facets…”

I read this in under an hour while sitting at my desk. It is “A dark, twisted tale told in free-verse” and I think every dark, twisted tale should be told this way.

I won’t say anything about the content. I will tell you it packed quite the punch and was wonderful and poetic. Sure it is dark too, but without darkness there would be no light.

I will be searching for more stories penned by this author IMMEDIATELY!!

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1)Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby is my first read by this author. It was a great first introduction to her writing. I enjoyed her writing style. I am not a history person because I cannot remember dates, on the other hand I can remember eras and remember what makes them important. Dalby was true to the time period and I really appreciated the darkness of the story, others call it gothic and that is a great description as well. The story of Lucy and Alex is one of mystery, secrets, passion and guilt. Lucy knows what she wants to do and has the drive to get it done. Alex has been groomed by his parents to be a certain male role. He is learning what is important to him and wonders if he should abandon everything he has been doing so far. Will there be a happy ending for Lucy and Alex? Will families keep apart what others had put together? You will have to read the book to find out.

The Shape of Trust (a Stand By Me novel Book 5) by Brinda Berry – Review by Sara Oxton

The Shape of Trust (Stand By Me, #5)The Shape of Trust by Brinda Berry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Shape of Trust by Brinda Berry is a four-star read that will shape your mind. This is the fifth novel in the Stand By Me series, but can be read as a stand-alone.  I have read a couple of them, but they are all great stories and enjoyable in their own right. This was a good story as Lily was such a well rounded character with flaws that will make you fall in love with her. She is quirky but fun. Add in some other amazing characters and you have the makings of a great story, there were a couple of wobbles, but they were still good overall.

5-stars

The Shape of Trust is a phenomenal romance read told with so much detail by the incredible Brinda Berry. This book is the 5th book in the Stand By Me series, a series that can be read as standalones. Yet with that being said they are all definitely worth a read!

Lily and Webb’s story is sweet, romantic, heartfelt, steamy and emotional, their story is my all time favorite by this author. All of the detail made it so easy for me to connect with these characters and to feel invested in them and their happiness. The storyline flowed so well, with the perfect build up of emotions. I enjoyed everything about this book.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for their next romance read!

I loved their characters and what they brought to this story even if they made me mad in parts. I can’t wait for book three! Must read book!

I enjoyed this book. It is a second chance romance story that will make you realize what could happen when you are not looking. Rainy was so busy in getting her life together that she forgets about herself. Roman has had tragedy in his life that still haunts him even today. What will happen when they meet? They are strong characters that have great chemistry and took me on an emotional roller coaster. I had a hard time putting this book down, I highly recommend this book.

Wow! The second book in this series and I loved it just as much as, if not more than, the first one! This can be read as a standalone however I would 100% recommend reading book 1 also. The story was an exciting, gripping read that I had a really hard time putting down. The twists and turns in the story are probably amongst some of the best I have ever read; just when I thought I knew what was going to happen there was another twist. The author absolutely kept me on my toes and on the edge of my seat with this read. The ending was brilliant! I loved that I couldn’t even begin to guess what was going to happen in the story, I felt like I was trying to solve it alongside reading it. The dual point of view meant I got information from different characters as I was trying to piece together just what had happened!
A fantastic, gripping read one that I absolutely recommend! I am certainly looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Caught in Cross Seas was a great read! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading and as this was also the first book that I have read by this author I was really looking forward to starting it and once I did I was hooked straight away. I LOVED Clay and Harlie, their story was really great to read about. The author took me on one huge emotional roller-coaster with this couple – I felt like I lived all of their ups and downs with them, I could feel every emotion they did – and there were definitely a few tears shed along the way. The author wrote about them both in such a way that they really did feel real.
The story flowed so well, there were twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, there was no part where the story dragged or where I lost interest. It was really was a fantastic read and I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!!

**Sigh**

Climbing the Walls was absolutely one of my favorite books of 2018 and this…Part 2 I can promise when 2019 ends Pandora’s Poison will be still one of my favorites for the year and I haven’t even gotten to part 3 yet….

This author has a way with her writing and the word that comes to mind first is hypnotizing, mesmerizing…I don’t know how she does it but every word draws me in and I just can not put it down. My first warning to you is…Do not even try picking this book up without first reading Climbing The Walls…It wont work, you don’t have the whole story and won’t be able to form a complete picture of what Darren and Luisa’s story is all about.

I loved this…I loved getting inside Darren and Luisa’s minds, and I’m so thankful this author gave us that opportunity instead of just getting one of them. Everything felt so so real, it isn’t a storybook it is a real life book where no matter what you have experienced in your life you can actually feel the emotions seeping in, and that is what I’ve come to realize with this author, when I pick her books up I need to be prepared to face reality and feel the emotions because that’s what she gives me.

Im completely invested in these people, all of them and can not even predict what is going to happen in Book 3, I have a feeling there will be a couple more POV’s involved and Im praying that some things Im worried about do not happen…I finish these books a complete mess and having books touch me in that way make for some of my favorites to date…I said this after reading Climbing The Walls and my thoughts haven’t changed…I will have this series sitting on my bookshelf and know that I will be reading them over and over again….

I don’t have to say how much I’m looking forward to reading Pandora’s Price even if the title scares me a bit I will be the first in line to open this book.

The Shape of Trust (Stand By Me, #5)The Shape of Trust by Brinda Berry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Shape of Trust by Brinda Berry is book five of the Stand by Me Series. This book can be read as a standalone.

Lily really needs a job so the job at the bookstore was perfect. She didn’t expect Webb or the feelings she would develop for him. When he needs help with his daughter, Lily offers her help. She loves kids and this gets her more time with Webb.

Webb has messed up a lot in life. He can’t afford to mess up where his daughter is concerned so agreeing to Lily’s offer of help while a tough choice was a no brainer.

Both Webb and Lily have their secrets. Will their secrets and the past threaten the future they hope to build?

I absolutely loved this book. There were some unexpected turns but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Lily is so strong and independent. She’s found a way to push through and keep moving forward with life when it would have been so easy to make a few different choices. Webb has overcome something not a lot of people can overcome. These characters together are great. I absolutely recommend this book!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pandora’s Poison is the second book in the enthralling Hart & Cole Series by Sacha T.Y Fortune. After reading the first instalment of this wonderful series, and Ms. Fortune’s brilliant debut novel “Climbing the Walls”- I knew I was hooked and there was no way that I wouldn’t be diving into the other books as soon as I could lay my hands on them. I cannot begin to describe the story in a way that will do it the justice is deserves or without giving away spoilers. But, I really recommend going into the series ‘blind’ and letting the author and story blow you away.
From the beautiful covers, to the multidimensional characters, intricate storyline, and brilliant detailing- this book ticks all the boxes. It is such a realistic and relatable woman’s fiction story that takes us on a journey through the inner workings- love, obstacles, insecurities, trust, forgiveness, doubts, pressures, infidelity, passion, and pain- that go into making a relationship/marriage work.
This is the second instalment, so I really recommend reading the first book before beginning on this one, because the story continues from one book to the next, as well as character introductions, pertinent details, and backstory- which are laid out in the first book.
There are intense moments, dramatic details, touching scenes, passionate encounters, believable dialogue, with complex and interesting characters who easily draw you into their story and into the rollercoaster ride that is their relationship/s. It was intriguing, emotive and incredibly well written. Can’t wait for book #3 to find out what happens!

Thank you, Ms. Fortune!

An Italian Adventure (The Italian Saga, #1)An Italian Adventure by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An Italian Adventure is the first book in the Italian Saga by Gaia B Amman. It is an enchanting story that catches you from the first page. It has fabulous characterisation and lovely storytelling. I felt transported to Italy and could almost feel the sun on my face.
Leda is a tomboy who has 2 close male friends, then bad boy Nico arrives from Sicily and 3 become 4. Their adventures start with the discovery of an adult magazine on the eve of their first communion and go from strength to strength.
I loved the way the main characters went from hating each other to looking out for each other. It was a touching relationship which I enjoyed watching develop.
I also liked the comparison between this and her relationship with older sister Viola. The family dynamic was interesting and well-written. The smattering of Italian phrases was a lovely touch for a linguist like myself.
I would give this book a 4/5 as I enjoyed it and would recommend to fans of all things Italian.

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1)Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1) by Carrie Dalby is well written and is a historical romance. It is a story where women are still chaperoned anything to do with romance is considered scandalous. The main characters relationship is complex and laden with improprieties. It is a love so strong that it will destroy souls but the actions of the men in this story leave me wanting to smack each and every one of them. I am not a fan of historical romances but this one was ok.

Lucy has found the love of her life and for love there are a lot of things she is willing to leave in the past but ultimately it is that past that will make her rethink what she needs and wants.

Alex has been raised to be a certain way but he found the love of his life and treasures her for eternity but certain vices that keep coming back to haunt him will be his undoing. For all Alex’s faults he had me hoping against hope that he would get his HEA.

The emotions the story evoke run rampant as you try to piece it all together.

Darren forgave his wife – or tried to – years ago, but surviving the affair… even raising her lover’s child as his own… is an entirely different concept than actually having to deal with the man pushing his way back into their lives to seek his rightful place with the daughter he never knew…

…If that really is all that Gianni wants…

But, as this beautiful man once told her: there is always a choice…

Told from both points of view, “Pandora’s Poison” explores the forces that tear a marriage apart – infidelity, insecurity, and doubt… and brings to the fore the question faced in one’s darkest hour: Can you trust yourself?

Book 2 ends at Darren’s & Luisa’s turning point, and the rest of their story will be revealed in Book 3 “Pandora’s Price” (coming March 31, 2019).

Caught in Cross Seas (Caught Book 1) by Sharleen Scott – Review by Tracy Wilkin

Caught in Cross SeasCaught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caught in Cross Seas is book one in the Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. Having not read anything by this author, it was a mystery at what was to unfold. I do love a good mystery with a little aggression and a lot of loving.

Harlie, a bakery owning spitfire escapes an abusive relationship and wants a simple and safe life. Clay is a guy who wants answers to the mystery surrounding his father. When these two meet as neighbours, sparks fly, but neither are looking for love. Harlie and Clay share chemistry, attraction and tenacity. They endeavour to solve the mystery and get the answers to so many unanswered questions. They compliment each other and their blossoming love was a pleasure to read about. It was suspenseful, dramatic, arousing and addictive.

Caught in Cross Seas is a fascinating and edgy story that will keep readers engaged and energised. A great read. 4 stars.

Perilous Confessions was a great 5 star read and book one in the Possession Chronicles.
It has been awhile since I’ve read a historical romance and I was pulled right in.

Lucy wants to be a writer and when she meets Alexander at a party she quickly falls for him. Alexander is a lawyer with a past that holds some demons. Can these two make things work and have a HEA? Will Lucy be able to handle the secrets that Alexander has?

I really liked Alexander, there was something about him that drew me in. Lucy was a strong woman and I really enjoyed reading their journey. All of the secondary characters were great. We get passion, drama, secrets and so much more. My emotions were all over the place. Carrie Dalby pulled me right in with her writing and I didn’t want to put it down until I was done. I look forward to reading more from this series.

Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott is book one of the Caught series. I couldn’t put this book down. It has it all; mystery, romance and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat.

Harlie is strong, independent and smart. Harlie has made a life for herself with her business. The last thing she expected was to be attracted to Clay. Clay is a country music superstar. Surely, Harlie’s attraction is one sided. Clay has secrets of his own but his focus right now is to find his father. Will the attraction sparking between Harlie and Clay turn into something else? What about their pasts?

I couldn’t put this book down. There were so many emotions and situations where I just wanted to yell at them to get it right. I felt really invested in the happiness of both Harlie and Clay. I can’t wait to read book two!!

Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott
Four Stars

Caught in Cross Seas is the first book in the Caught series by Sharleen Scott. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Scott, but definitely won’t be the last. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. This story is full of mystery, suspense, intrigue and romance. The story had many subplots and was very busy, but Ms. Scott made everything flow so smoothly and it is an amazingly portrayed story filled with twists and turns that will you guessing right to the end. Harlie is such a strong character with a dark past and Clay is a man chasing his own demons. This is a wonderful story that I highly recommend.

Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) by Sharleen Scott
4 out of 5 Stars
This book has a little bit of everything. Mystery, romance, suspense and a dash of intrigue. Harlie and Clay are two very unique characters brought together by even more unique circumstances. Harlie is a strong, independent woman who is avoiding her past and she will do anything to keep the past from finding her, so much so that she has gone to the far corners of the USA to keep the past away.
Clay is a country music superstar and he has found himself in Harlie’s next of the woods searching for his father. His father is supposed to be dead, but rumors persist that he is alive, and a murderer.
Harlie and Clay start off like oil and water. They bash heads more often than cats and dogs, but as they grow to know each other, they begin to understand why the other is the way they are and what has lead them to be this way. The banter between the two of them is hilarious and frustrating at the same time.
Will Clay find his father? Will Harlie’s past find her? This book is a must read!
