The Brass Compass: A Novel by Ellen Butler – Review by Sara Oxton

The Brass CompassThe Brass Compass by Ellen Butler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Brass Compass by Ellen Butler a four-star read that will help you find true north. I am not usually a fan of historical stories, but this one intrigued me. Lily Saint James is such a complex character, she makes the novel for me, if she wasn’t so well written then this wouldn’t be such a good story. Lily has a great flow, you watch as she goes from bored young woman to a major undercover player, the spying interspersed with a love story just adds a much needed lightness to the story, if there wasn’t the love story it could be too dark otherwise.

4 Stars

Not my chosen genre but I love the idea about these books being a serial and am really looking forward to reading all 10 episodes. The cover drew me in and the beautiful writing kept me hooked.

A super quick read that felt like a full length novel with the amount of content, yet didn’t feel all crammed in. I really liked Wren as a main character and can not wait for the rest of her story and adventures. The fairytale retelling is awesome and this story is about strength, determination and sacrifice. It was completely Awesome.

Highly recommend

The Last Dance (The Sorrel Janes Mysteries) by Lonna Enox – Review by Jana Teppih

The Last DanceThe Last Dance by Lonna Enox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Last Dance by Lonna Enox is a story that will pull you down a road that is twisted like heck … Sorrell will annoy the heck out of you and you feel at times like she is living up to the quintessential ‘I am an island and I can only rely on me’ and you will also admire her for being able to pick up pieces and make sense of her life after the event that changed her life dramatically and had to move to New Mexico. She is trying to lead a quiet life but she gets pulled into photographing crime scenes and adding to it Detective Reed and the chemistry and love-hate relationship and you can forget about the quaint and quiet!
Lonna Enox is a new writer to me and I am intrigued by her writing so I will be looking out for the next Sorrell mystery!

Never Let Me Go (Bayou Devils MC Book 6) by A.M. Myers – Review by Angelina Frazzini

Never Let Me Go (Bayou Devils MC #6)Never Let Me Go by A.M. Myers

Never Let Me Go by A.M. Myers is book six of the Bayou Devils MC series. This book is the perfect addition to this series. I couldn’t put it down! It is so good!

After experiencing a car accident, Juliette doesn’t remember anything recent. Nothing feels right and home doesn’t feel like home anymore so Juliette decides she needs to be in the last place that feels like home – Baton Rouge. Sawyer agrees to give Juliette a ride back to Baton Rouge. He doesn’t expect the strong connection he feels to her though. This book had just the right amount of romance and suspense. Each book in this series just gets better and better. I absolutely recommend!!

Wayward (Billionaire Bodyguards Book 1)Wayward by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wayward is book one in the Billionaire Bodyguards by Via Mari. This author is an instant one click for me, and I was beyond excited for this new book in a new series. I love that bittersweet, drawing anticipation you get when you meet the characters, learn their make up, and live their story.

Sacha is a lady I would love to be. She is everything sweet yet sassy. She falls instantly for Jay. Totally. Hard. The feelings are also felt by him. Their journey was fraught with suspense and dilemma, but blinding in it’s beauty. I have to say these are some of the most addictive and endearing characters O have ever got to know. Their story was sublime. 5 stars.

Furbidden Attraction: A Cursed RomanceFurbidden Attraction: A Cursed Romance by R. O’Leary
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read from this author and I was blown away. I love a good paranormal romance but this book exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book to the Raven Falls cursed romance series and it was a perfect beginning. I could not put this book down for anything. The storyline drew me in and I wanted to know what happened. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible book.

Louisa moves to Raven Falls to start a new life. She is having trouble with her new life. Louisa can’t stand her new boss and her new apartment is gross. She is working her unbearable shift when a cute dog is brought into the vet she works for. Louisa falls in love with this dog instantly. She ends up taking this dog home with her. When she wakes up in the morning she finds a naked man and her dog is gone. Louisa fights her attacker but she ends up in his care. She is about to find out that there are more than just monsters hiding in her world. Louisa is dragged into a world that she knows nothing about and she has to trust the man that kidnapped her. Will Louisa get back home will she want to stay in this scary world?

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, suspense, and mystery. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters. Louisa had a hard childhood but she doesn’t let that define her. She wants to find a good guy that will protect her. Jack is a shifter and he has always put his clan first. He feels a deep connection to Louisa that won’t go away. The way he treats her will make you swoon. This talented author will have you at the edge of your seat until the end. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.

RETURN (Rewind Book 2) by Rowan Shaw – Review by Heather Bass

Return (Rewind #2)Return by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read a couple of books by this author but she always blows my mind. I’m new to the m/m romance but this story exceeded all my expectations. This is the second book in the Rewind series and it was all I wanted and more. I was so happy when I got this book. I could not put it down for anything. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible story.

Raphael has no place to go. He left home when he was a young man and now he is trying to find a place to live. Raphael finds an add for an apartment for rent. He goes to see the apartment and he is shocked that he can afford it. Raphael and his new room mate Adrien are totally different. When they start to get to know each other they find out that they have feelings for one another. Raphael likes Aiden but they both have secrets that could ruin everything. Will Raphael and Adrien find what they are looking for or will they find trouble instead?

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, mystery, and forgiveness. You can’t help but to fall in love with these characters. Raphael had a hard life when he was a child but it only made him stronger. He has a heart of gold and loves very deeply. Aiden has a very hard time letting people into his life. He also had a hard life but he puts walls up to protect himself from heartache. These characters have some steamy scenes that might not be for some readers. This talented author will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. I can’t wait to see what this author will write about next.

Girl Trap (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery Book 3) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Maura Harper

Girl TrapGirl Trap by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

GIRL TRAP is the third installment in the “Madeline Dawkins Mystery” series. I think this is a series that should be read in order. There are vital details from the previous stories that are mentioned within the first few paragraphs.

GIRL TRAP is two stories woven into one book. The author writes very detailed scenes and I often found myself reading only the first sentence in each paragraph. There are twists and turns and some obvious directions and results.

I would have rated this a 3.5 star but the last two pages intrigued me enough that I will continue with the series.

CS Duffy has written this rollercoaster of a ride story. Her characters are well fit for their part in the book. This is a fast moving page turner. Once your in, you can’t put it down. I feel the best part of this story, is never knowing what will happen next. The suspense is well packed and ever changing. Book 2 can only go up from here. Four Stars

The Embers We Seek: Prequel, War of Giants is the first book in A Rebel Princess Serial by Acacia K. Parker. This is a short paranormal book that builds a big world in a short amount of time. We are introduced to Wren and her small battalion of fighters who are trying to prevent mass casualties by going in to battle first. This book had me hooked from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down until the last. Things don’t go as planned, even when you have the best laid plans, so going in with little planning leads to unexpected consequences. This fast read has me wanting more. Ms. Parker has my interest in this serial and I can’t wait for part two.

Another wonderful, suspenseful read by this talented author. As soon as I started reading this story I couldn’t put it down, I found myself turning pages quickly to find out what was going to happen next. I really liked the fact that both Mike and Madeline had their own case to work on this time but I also feel torn because I think they are better together. I have really become invested in these two characters and love reading about mysteries they solve and the trouble they find themselves in along the way. I highly recommend this book.

Furbidden Attraction: A Cursed Romance is the first book in the Raven Falls Cursed Romance series. I liked this read and shifters aren’t normally what I read. The author did an amazing job drawing me in and making me want to read more. Jack and Louisa are the main characters in the story. Louisa is a strong character even though she has been through so much but it does not stop her for standing up for herself. This book has adventure, ghosts, monsters and it will truly bring the reader into the story and make you NEED to see how it ends.

This is my first read by author, R. O’Leary and it won’t be my last. I am excited to see where this series go. I give this book 4 stars.

Never Let Me Go (Bayou Devils MC #6)Never Let Me Go by A.M. Myers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A.M. Myers is back with the story Never Let Me Go, which is book six in the Bayou Devils series. This is Juliette and Sawyer’s story. Juliette has the best life from friends, a business and an amazing Finance but she can’t remember. She feels so lost so she runs. While running she meets Sawyer and while she normally doesn’t take a ride with strangers, she feels sage and at ease with Sawyer. As she spends times with him, she sees so many things she likes behind the mask he wears. But even on the run, danger follows, and can she remember the past and get the answers she needs?
I love this MC and author and was not disappointed in anyway. The strong storyline, character that I fell in love with, and a book I could NOT put down. Bravo on a job well done. I give this book five stars!!

By J. Collins
4 out of 5 stars

Obsessed is the first book I’ve read by this author and despite no prior knowledge, I couldn’t pass it up. I am a sucker for a good vampire story.
Overall, I did enjoy the book and will be looking forward to reading more from this author. There were ups and downs without the story for me, times that I loved the book and other times I felt like there was something just “off” for me.
Obsessed ended up being one of those books that I did read pretty quickly, not one that you let sit and “get back to”. I guess with that being said I would say there were way more good aspects than bad!
If you’re looking for a fun, vampire read that really will make you smile, I do recommend giving this a try.

Steele Resolve (The Hawke Family Book 6) by Gwyn McNamee – Review by Jana Teppih

Steele Resolve (Hawke Family #6)Steele Resolve by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Steele Resolve is the closing chapter of Gwyn McNamee Hawke Family series. It is absolutely not meant to be read as a standalone! All the stories in the series are intertwined and you need to read them in order to fully understand where the writer is taking you! It is a novella but it packs a punch and gives us a grand finale that the series deserves!
Love is the battlefield for Byron Harris and Luca “Steele” Abello that comes with real threats and dire consequences … they are walking along the path that I do not wish even onto my enemies though if it all goes well, their life would be one of the fairy tales … Luca is the son of Hawke family enemy, his father almost destroyed the family and brought untold pain and misery … Byron is the adopted member of the family that he cannot imagine to be disloyal to … what should they do? Let each other go? Steal the moments? What a drama does the writer give us when she brings it all together … the past and the present and the future … and the epilogue … my goodness!
I know that the writer will give us many more stories and I will be on a lookout!

Murder Creek by Jane Suen – Review by Emily Walsh

Murder CreekMurder Creek
By: Jane Suen
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder Creek by Jane Suen was a quick murder mystery that’s both pulling and entertaining.

Not my first read by this author so I knew going in that the writing would be smooth, plot on point and the story compelling. I was not let down and I was pulled in right away by this thrilling mystery. This is a standalone so no worries about past story lines, or continuation plots that will confuse you.

Right away we meet or MC, she’s a bit of a free spirited and knows what she wants in life, I did find her a little immature, but it wasn’t a draw back, just showed her age. It was a nice balance and added a nice layer to the MC. I loved the mystery and her need to find out what happened to the missing girl. It was nice following the clues and piecing it together, and trying to find out what happened. It was fully engaging and I had a pretty good time reading it.

Overall if you’re looking for a pulling, thrilling mystery with twist , turns, and suspense, then please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval that you will fall hard for this wondrous mystery.

Happy Reading

RETURN (Rewind Book 2) by Rowan Shaw – Review by Erica Fish

Return (Rewind #2)Return by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Return by Rowan Shaw is the second book in the series but can be a stand alone book as well. Rowan Shaw paints the perfect picture with her words. That makes reading her books a lot easier. There was a warning in the synopsis that I passed on in the description of my review. The story of Rapheal and Adrien can be uncomfortable for some readers. The story has some strong emotions that could spark the readers emotions. Personally, I can empathize with anyone (real or fictious) so this story, even though I loved it, took me on some big emotional moments. Rapheal is a college student looking for a place to live (on the cheap side) and he found Adrien. Both had strong emotions for one another but neither one really knew what was in store. Will Adrien and Raphael give in to their emotions or will turn away from each other?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Obsessed by J Collins is my first book by this author. She kept my interest throughout her story. This is a paranormal vampire story. J Collins has a new way of spinning her story about her vampires. It is a fun read when you do not see the same topic of vampires over and over. J Collins amazingly spins a great tale in a vampire world. Her character Lila has found vampire fiction interesting. She was able to get a way within her book covers until Adam, a real vampire meets up with her. Adam takes Lila into the world of vampires where everything starts to become real. Will Adam be able to protect Lila or will a dark vampire take her away?

Obsessed (Lila Casey Series Book 1) by J Collins – Review by Erin Wolf

Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 (Lila Casey Series)Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 by J. Collins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Obsessed: Lila Casey Book 1 (Lila Casey Series) by J. Collins, 4 stars.

Lila was trying to fight her fear of heights by climbing the stairs in an office building she’s fascinated with. Before she heads back down, she has a panic attack and flees to the closest place to sit down. These aren’t her type of people, but she doesn’t care about that. There she runs into a man whom she can’t stop thinking about. She loves vampire romance and fiction books, is that why she thought she saw fangs? But this is the least of her worries. Turns out there is something even worse after her. Can Adam help her or should she just give up now?

I really enjoyed this book. Lila is a fun, quirky character who really makes this book sensational. But a book can’t rely on that alone. Adam and the secondary characters add variety to this story. The storyline itself has lots of suspense and twists and turns along the way. Lila doesn’t know who to trust or just what to do. I could not put this book down and cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

If you like vampire fiction with a quirky main character, this book is for you.

Girl Trap (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery Book 3) by Cynthia Hamilton. This is the 3rd installment of the Madeline Dawkins series and it doesn’t disappoint. Madeline a party planner and private investigator thinks things are rocking along same as ever when she gets 2 inquiries on the same day for a fairly normal missing persons case. But there is nothing normal about either of these cases. Two beautiful sisters are missing from Minnesota, one is an estranged heiress who has never touched her 8 figure fortune. More than enough reason for someone to kidnap her. When Mike Delaney, Madeline’s love interest and business partner heads to LA to search for his cousin’s missing girlfriend he finds out this case is a lot more than what it seems. Its downright dangerous. Will Mike and Madeline make it out of this case alive and with the 2 missing women or will the case finally be their last? I love these books and this one was no exception!

This story is a true story of overcoming your past and finding happiness. It is one of those books that pulls you in without evening trying and keeps you reading right to the very end. Murder Creek by Jane Suen – Review by Liz Vrchota

Murder CreekMurder Creek by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have yet to find a Jane Suen novel that I have not absolutely loved. Murder Creek is no deviation from the rule. Jane Suen writes with such vibrancy and emotion that I always feel as if I have been on an emotional and physical journey when I have finished one of her novels. In Murder Creek I was right with Eve, our MC, as she weeded her way through the mystery and intrigue that is this book. Her personality is written so that I felt as if I was reading about a real actual woman that had indeed been through all of this. I even felt this girls terror with those grisly nightmares that she suffers through. About half way through I found myself disregarding the 1 am time and pushing onward to figure out what was going to come of this. I am so glad that I did and it was worth every moment of sleep deprivation. I won’t be giving you any more details than that though. You will have to take my word for it that this a book you can’t miss out on and one-click right now. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed. I am now going to wait with baited breath for the next little gem that Suen produces.
