Unlikely in Love (A Parker Lake Novel Book 1) by Olivia Sherwood

4 out of 5

Annabelle Cleaver, Annie, had lousy parents. Luckily she wound up with her grandmother, who was quirky but amazing. Annie found love and acceptance with her grandmother, Sophie. Now reeling after the death of her beloved grandmother, Annie is a drift in her grief and not sure of the direction her life now takes. Enter Wyatt.

Wyatt Holloway has returned to his hometown after 11 years in the Army that resulted in 3 tours in Afghanistan and the injuries that left him permanently scarred. He can’t sleep without nightmares and has enough survivor’s guilt to fill the lake he loves so much. Wyatt’s parents convince him to ask Annie about a job helping with maintenance around her farm. Annie takes one look at this handsome man and knows that he will be trouble but she says yes.

As they spend time together, Annie and Wyatt realize that the spark they feel started back in high school. Annie finds that working near Wyatt keeps the loneliness at bay during the day but she feels her empty house all the more when he goes home every night. Wyatt discovers that thinking of Annie and her farm keeps the bad memories locked away. Will they discover a love that will help each of them heal?

Olivia Sherwood built a world in Parker Lake that consists of damaged people finding peace and healing. Annie and Wyatt are just the beginning of sassy, loving characters in this small town. Olivia weaves laughter, family strength, and amazing scenery into her story as easily as Belinda sewed costumes for Hattie Mae. What adventures will Annie and Wyatt be up to in the next story? I can’t wait to find out!
