Taming Beckett is the first book in The Playmakers series by G.K. Brady. This is the first time I have read any of Ms. Brady’s work so I was quite interested to see what I would find.
It is a contemporary sports romance following Beckett Miller, a disgraced hockey player who’s hit rock-bottom- his life spiralling out of control by being caught up in one-to-many scandals. Then enters unlucky in love real estate agent Paige Anderson, and things start to look up. These two knew each other in college, but ten years has passed since then. Both have been burned, and both need someone they can trust. What does fate have in store for them?
I really wanted to love this book, and it really should have ticked all the boxes for me- but unfortunately, I just couldn’t connect with the characters which made it quite difficult to invest in their story. Also, the storyline was quite slow in places which resulted in pulling me out of the story, as I had found my mind wandering quite a lot. I had to continually force my focus back on the story, as it hadn’t pulled me in the way I hoped it would.
As I have been on a bit of a thriller binge lately, maybe that’s why I haven’t connect with this book. So, I have decided that I will revisit it again in a few weeks to see if I still feel the same way, or if I was just having an ‘off’ reading day. So don’t let me put you off grabbing a copy and having your own opinion on the book…
Stay tuned…

Thank you, G.K. Brady!
