My Pearl Heart by J.N. Sheats is a short novella length contemporary romance with plenty of angst, drama, emotion, and chemistry.
This follows Jasmine Hayes, a successful event planner, who we meet as she experiences the best kiss of her life. Passionate. Sizzling. Toe-curling perfection. And the man who bestows the kiss on her seems pretty perfect too. So, imagine her surprise and confusion when he then proceeds to announce his engagement to her best friend and business partner. Awkward much…. But things take an even more uncomfortable turn when Jasmine is tasked with planning their engagement party, AND wedding. But things may not be as they seem, and we get a front row seat to all the developments. Will Jasmine get the HEA she deserves? No spoilers from me…. You’ll have to read the story for yourself to discover what happens.
I really wanted to love this story much more than I did, as I have loved the other books of Ms. Sheats that I have read before. It should have ticked all the boxes for me, but I just couldn’t connect with the characters, or their story. I spent much of the story completely frustrated with the characters and wanted to shake them so so much. I really felt for Jasmine and what happened, and even after the revelation, I couldn’t seem to push past my initial impression. When I read a great book, I love to invest in the characters and the outcome of their stories- but that failed to happen for me here. But, having loved Ms. Sheats other books, I have decided to revisit this one again in a few weeks to see if I still feel the same way- or to see if perhaps I was just having an “off” reading day when I read this. Stay tuned…
Happy Reading…

Thank you, J.N. Sheats!
