Driving into the Night by Amanda Kay – Review by Santana Hicks
Driving into the Night by Amanda Kay
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Kenai and Mikael have always been intrigued by each other throughout high school but neither of them made any advances. Things changed when Kenai was given a ring that was a family heirloom. The ring was cryptic and spoke to him. It seemed to speak more in the presence of Mikael. One night at the party, they were dared to kiss each other. Kenai thought maybe Mikael liked him back. The next day he found a note where Mikael expressed his hatred. After high school they went their separate ways never to see each other again.. Or so Kenai thought.
Mikael has been told his whole life that he is worthless and his whole purpose in life is to die at the hand of the hunter who bares the ring. Of course the hunter had to be the guy he was crushing on. He knew they could never be so he pushed him away. Time was running out, he had to die to save his family so he sought Kenai out to finish the job. Kenai doesn’t want to kill Mikael so they agree on 6 months. If they can’t find a way out of this, they must do what has to be done.
Will love prevail or will the ring get the kill?
This book wasn’t what I expected. I was expecting something darker but it wasn’t dark at all. It was a romance between 2 young men who should be enemies but can’t find it in their hearts to hate each other. I found myself a bit annoyed at the internal dialogue, especially Mikaels. It was too repetitive. I also couldn’t understand how Kenai was so oblivious to everything when it was all basically spelled out to him. The premise of the past was intriguing to me. The history of the pact and the ring would make a great story. I wish it went into more detail about it.
