The Discovery of Magic (The Intrigue of Magic Series) by L. J. Evias – Review by Katie Turner

The Discovery of Magic (The Intrigue of Magic, #1)The Discovery of Magic by L. J. Evias
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Discovery of Magic by L. J. Evias is book one in The Intrigue of Magic series. Alice is a fantastic archer and she competes for a scholarship in hopes that it is enough to convince her parents to remain stationary and not move her away from her friends. While the book begins a bit slow, it gives the reader the opportunity to observe going through the normal motions of being a teenager with Alice and her friends before things take a drastic and unexpected turn for all of them. Entering into a realm of magic and political war in Parsa, the story is written so that we can experience the adventure with many of the characters. While moving around from different characters doesn’t always work well in every story, I really loved getting to experience the adventure in different perspectives and felt it worked perfectly here. I thought the writing was really wonderful. Descriptive enough without going overboard. The characters were well-developed and very interesting and engaging. If you enjoy a good YA with a little bit of everything to offer- a touch of romance, drama, magic, adventure, danger- you may really enjoy delving into this fantasy world! Definitely excited to see where the next book leads to!
