Beckoned, Part 5: Adrift In Costa Rica
By Aviva Vaughn
5/5 Stars

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I LOVED the Beckoned series ! I enjoyed Angela and Soren’s love story from start to finish!! But I must admit something… I wasn’t too keen on Soren. I found him selfish and incredibly needy. But after reading this book, I saw him in a whole new light!
Realizing you aren’t the person you want to be is a huge eye opener…Picking up and starting over is so scary, but yet so brave!! Soren , discovers himself in the proces… now that is growth!
My favorite quote from the series so far is, “ The regret of missed opportunity .” It means a great deal to me. But I’m sure it means something different to everyone. I’m going to remember this quote for a long time!! Especially when I second guess a great opportunity!!
Aviva has a way of writing , which will suck you in immediately! Her attention to details is phenomenal! And her characters … wow, so relatable and honest!! I highly recommended this entire series! Take the time to read it in proper order, you will not regret it!! I can’t wait to see where book six takes us!! I’m looking forward to seeing where Soren and Elena’s journey takes us this time!

Part 5 of Soren’s journey. It’s my first book though and somehow I am happy that I didn’t read the others because I liked Soren right from the beginning and if Angela was right for him in my eyes I would have had a hard time to warm up to Elena. But that is just a subjective opinion. I don’t take easily to trading main characters and from my understanding Angela is part of Soren’s life for at least 3 of the other parts.

That being said, if this is your first book from the series, don’t worry of not understanding or missing important bits. We still get an inside about Soren’s life before Costa Rica. And frankly, Soren grows and develops so much in this book, it’s a beautiful process to watch. And Elena, I just like her. And not because we have the same name and speak the same language:)) she is strong, talented and so down to earth, keeping those walls around her tall but I completely understand it and good for her that she does. Although Soren on paper is quite the catch and many would throw themselves at him I like that he wonders why Elena chose him. That woman is keeping him on his toes!! Curious to see what part 6 will bring but I really hope he learned from his mistakes and he will make the right choice.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beckoned by Aviva Vaughn is the fifth part in her new serial that I just can’t get enough of. Throughout the series, I became hooked and made it so hard to put down until the very end. Beckoned is all about finding yourself and finding someone who understands and embraces the journey that you are on. Following the stories of Soren Lund and Elena Sol, you get a front row seat to a passion that can’t be tamed no matter the miles that separate these two. Soren is a man that who is trying to find his way in the world, and trying to right his world that was tilted on its axis from a heartbreak. In his journey he finds himself in a village in Costa Rica, where he meets Elena. Elena is so full of life, living on the edge as a professional surfer. While Costa Rica has always been her home she has always been a woman willing to do and go wherever to make her dreams a reality. Elena is a strong, beautiful woman, who has been hurt in the past and guards her heart against further pain. There is something about Soren that draws Elena in, but she is worried that he will attempt to change her or hurt her. Soren finds that he can’t get Elena out of his head, and is willing to take a leap of faith letting her in. The more that these two get to know each other the more that parting seems to be the worst thing. The sparks that fly between these two will leave you on the edge of your seat and attempting to catch your breath. Vaughn is a newer to me author but I am so happy that I picked this series up. I have loved every book so far and can’t wait to see how it will continue. While each of these books could be read as a single quickie read, I recommend reading them all in order as the characters will overlap and interact throughout each book. If you are looking for a great read, from a superb author, than this is one that you need to pick up today!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great way to wrap up a series! Beckoned – Adrift in Costa Rica is book 5 in the series which is written by Aviva Vaughn. Although this book can be read as a standalone I would highly suggest you read the other 4 books because then you can fully understand Soren’s character. Soren was a main love interest in the other books and when it came down to it, Soren was a lone man. His character was full of regimen and planning. He was born as the heir to the family financial business. However, it becomes quite obvious that this life that was meticulously planned out for him is exactly what he was looking for. So what does anyone that needs a break to find out who they really are do? They go to Costa Rica to find themselves! There Soren encounters new people and a new culture. What he doesn’t expect is Elena and everything else that he thought was him, wasn’t. It’s hard enough trying to find yourself but when you add the unexpected everything finds a way to become part of the new you. Ms. Vaughn has done a great job with telling Soren’s story and closing a chapter, so to speak, with the series. This character was one of those that you would always say, “what happened to him?” I’m glad this book came out to answer my questions about the character and how his story ended. I loved the author’s writing style and can’t wait to read more from her!

Beckoned was a good 4 star read and part five in the “Beckoned” series.

We start with Soren going to see Angela to solidify in his heart that they won’t have a future together. Angela is involved with Kieran and very happy.

Soren ends up moving to Costa Rica to start over. He decides to try new things like learning how to surf. He ends up meeting Elena and they hit if off. But, Elena has some secrets of her own. Can Elena and Soren have something or will secrets get in the way?

Elena was a strong independent character, who tries to protect her heart. When she met Soren the sparks flew. We do get some hot and steamy scenes from these two. I love the playlist and recipes, once I started I didn’t want to stop until I was done. The secondary characters were great and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Aviva Vaughn pulls you right in with her writing and the details are great. If your looking for a great series to read, I highly suggest this one.

Beckoned, Adrift in Costa Rica is book 5 in the series by Aviva Vaughn and in my opinion, the best book in the series. I liked the previous books but there was something about Angela that I just couldn’t put my finger on. Her and Soren had chemistry and were cute together but, living so far away did a lot of damage. Not only the distance but, they were completely different time zones too!

Now here Soren is, he knows he has nothing holding him back. After seeing Angela one last time he decides to go somewhere tropical and hops a flight from California to Costa Rica.

I loved Soren In this book. He was funny, happy and acted like a carefree man his age. When he sees Elena and becomes great friends with her, I was rooting for them. Both Soren and Elena have skeletons in their closet and not to mention, Soren has a strict father who has his whole life planned out for him already across the globe. Will Soren and Elena be able to work past their issues and be together or is there to much stacked against them?

I believe Adrift in Costa Rica can be read as a stand alone but, it is much better to read in order to get a feel for the author and the back story.

My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

BECKONED, Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica by Aviva Vaughn was a pretty okay read, considering I didn’t read the other books. I was captured right away, and with the way this book is written, and how well, it stand on its one.

So yeah, me being me, and unable to read series in order, I’m starting at the end. As I said with the way this book is written, it stands on it own two feet. And though I didn’t get to know the key characters backstories, with that first opening chapter alone, I got everything I needed, and even though I didn’t have a connection from the other books, it was a heart breaking scene.

Going into this book, I have to say I loved the way it was written. Very smooth, consistent, and it had this lightness to it that was weirdly soothing, and just pulled me into this story. Soren, poor guy, I really felt for him. I mean that opening chapter, was a slap in the face. But man the character development for him, was massive. From that first meeting till the last, you could say dropping everything, was the best thing he ever did. Nice clean slate.

Elena, she was the perfect match for him, and because I didn’t have any lingering attachments to Angela, I quickly started rooting for her and Soren. She also brought some drama, hot sass and of course, a lingering mystery from a chapter in her life, she didn’t want to repeat. It added that something extra that rounded out the story.

This book was great and as I’ve said, I very much enjoyed it. True I should have read the other books, and I do suggest you do as well, because Soren and Angela seemed to have had something special, and I don’t want you to miss out on that. What that said, please take my high recommendation and my stamp of approval that you will get swept away by this entertaining, engaging, heart melting read.

Happy Reading

Aviva Vaughn has graced us with another wonderful installment in the ‘Beckoned’ series, this time she deviates from the norm and tells us what happened to Soren after he left Angela’s book party in Los Angeles. Obviously, this is the fifth book in the series and it would be best to read all four previous books to get a better idea about who Soren is and what brought him to Costa Rica. Of all the places I pictured Soren escaping to, Costa Rica was nowhere close to on my list, but Aviva Vaughn has surprised me in the best way with sending Soren there and showing us a side to him I didn’t think existed. This Soren has grown and changed in so many good ways and the tiny tropical town he ends up in somehow fits him beautifully. One of my favorite parts of Aviva Vaughn’s books is the scenery and this book doesn’t disappoint! Costa Rica sounds like such a magical place and Aviva Vaughn does such an incredible job of describing every detail to make the reader feel like they are right there with Soren. My other favorite part of her books is all the cooking and wonderful foods she describes! So, when Soren meets the locals and starts to learn about the cuisine, I got so excited! It was nice to read about Soren and his adventure, so I can’t wait to read “Beckoned, Part 6: Adrift in New Zealand!!” I give this book 5 stars, obviously!

5-stars

Beckoned Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica by Aviva Vaughn is an incredible slow burn romance. I have been impatiently waiting for Soren’s continued story since I finished the last book. His character is one that I really connected with and I couldn’t wait to read more about him and his intriguing character, and boy I certainly wasn’t disappointed with this book. I loved how his character developed over the course of the story, it felt as if I was watching the real Soren shine through. Being that this is the fifth book in the series I would strongly suggest reading the first four books of this series before diving into this one as each book continues where the last one left off.

I have been a huge fan of Aviva’s ever since I read the first book in the Beckoned series, her stories always manage to pull me right in and leave me feeling all kinds of emotions. She writes with so much detail that it’s easy to picture everything playing out in my mind, which makes it highly entertaining, plus it feels as if though I have travelled the world alongside these characters as they go through these journeys in their lives.

This is a series I would highly recommend to anyone looking for their next romance read! It’s a series you won’t want to miss!

5/5 stars

Adrift in Costa Rica is the installment to Aviva Vaughn’s Beckoned series I didn’t know I always wanted! When I read the first four books in the series I was completely hooked, not wanting to put them down until they were finished, sneaking pages into pockets of time in my day, you get the picture. There is something about Aviva Vaughn’s style of writing that captivates you in an almost poetic way but without becoming too wordy. I feel as though I hang on every word throughout these
novels.
Admittedly when I read the other books in the series I wasn’t too connected to Soren so I wasn’t
sure what to expect from Adrift in Costa Rica. As usual I was completely hooked from the very beginning. I enjoyed the recap from how Angela’s
story ended and seeing Soren’s perspective, it
truly painted him in a new light. The retelling could have been dull and repetitive but the raw emotion and vivid imagery of each scene really made this portion of the story feel new.
I could write a novels worth of how I feel about this story so I will try to wrap it up. I loved the character growth as we learn more about Soren and his relationships both romantic and with his family, but also as he learns more about himself. So many books are centered around the woman rebuilding herself after heartbreak, I really appreciated this perspective, especially after feeling as though this wasn’t a relatable character in the past.
I’ve mentioned in a previous review how much I love that each and every chapter has a title itself, I’m pleased to see that the work and effort put into this persists going even further to include a soundtrack to go along with the chapters, and a book club question list!

Four Stars

I’m so glad that the author made a story for Soren. I disliked how his story ended with Angela. I didn’t like her character all that much anyway. Now Elena was someone I can see loving Soren. Elena and Angela have similar traits but were different in how they treated Soren and how he handled the relationships. With Angela Soren didn’t want to look beyond London. He never got to the point where he had to make a choice. Angela didn’t see past what see wanted. She never made a path that included Soren. They were prefer for each other but they didn’t want to change for each other. When Soren realized his mistake it was too late. When his slow burn relationship starts with Elena I was hopeful. Not because he would be getting over Angela but because it was unexpected for him. He never saw it coming. It was like discovering something amazing. I liked seeing the personal growth for Soren. He grew into a better person by taking away his own comforts. By learning to be his own man without his family. This isn’t the last book in the series but it was a great end.

Beckoned Part Five: Adrift in Costa Rica (Beckoned Series Book #5) by Aviva Vaughn – Review by Angela Hayes

BECKONED, Part 5: Adrift in Costa RicaBECKONED, Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica by Aviva Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beckoned: Adrift in Costa Rica is part five of the “Beckoned” series by Aviva Vaughn. This story is a slow-burn, contemporary women’s fiction- full of vibrant and vivid descriptions of travel, adventure, food, loss, recovery, discovery, romance, spice, friendship, lessons, and growth.
This book takes us on a journey with Soren, what happens to him after he is forced to face the fact that he and Angela don’t have a future, and that she is madly in love with someone else.

“So here he was, standing in the lurid bookstore-cum-nightclub, watching as the colored lights painted the face of the woman who had flown into his life like a burning comet, and then exited it just as dramatically, leaving his life cold and hollow.
And she was in the arms of another man.
And it was all his fault.
He didn’t know how to bring the warmth back into his life, now that his sun was gone.
His heart began to race painfully, the blood draining from his head, a sense of surreal disorientation washing over him.
Although part of him would have preferred to hate Kieran, it just wasn’t in his nature; and Kieran was too well mannered to deserve it.”

“Dearest Soren,
Thank you for some of the most beautiful memories of my entire life.
I’ll never forget you.
Always,
Angela”

I have loved this series so much, devouring every word and I was so conflicted seeing Angela and Kieran together and loving how great they were together, but feeling so bad for Soren at the same time. I wasn’t really sure how Ms. Vaughn was going to approach this story, what direction she’d take- so my mind was reeling with the possibilities. I did have high expectations, because Soren really needed something good to happen to him to make up for so much heartache. I loved what Ms. Vaughn did with this story and it was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. Even though I knew Ms. Vaughn wouldn’t make it easy for Soren and would make him ‘work for his happiness. I also love how much more of Soren we get to see. Even after 4 other books, there was still quite substantial character growth and development.

“He had long ago made peace with his father’s inability to show affection. If he was honest with himself, he even saw a bit of it in his own mannerisms. He had been taught that it was better to say or do nothing rather than say or do the wrong thing. It took losing Angela for him to realize how much like his father he had become.
Which was why he’d run away to Costa Rica. He was tired of living his father’s plan for him. He wanted to distance himself from everything that defined him—investment banking, Europe, his family—so he could figure out who he really was, or really wanted to be.”

Soren really stepped out of his comfort zone, as well as out from his father’s shadow. He relocates to a new country, abandoning everything he knows, for a fresh start. He learns the native language and makes some friends. Life slowly gets brighter and begins to look up for him.
Little does he know how much a surfing session would change his life, as an accident nearly costs him everything, but also introduces Elena into his world. I was surprised by how much I liked Elena, after Angela I wasn’t sure I would be able to connect with her, but I shouldn’t have worried as Ms. Vaughn has never let me down before. Elena is all woman. Sexy, sassy and vibrant. I loved the banter between her and the other characters. But Elena has some secrets which will come into play and gives this story another added element of intrigue. What happens when her past threatens their new-found happiness? You really should read all the fantastic details for yourself, I’m sure you will enjoy the book/series just as much as I have!
I loved Ms. Vaughn’s attention to detail, and the way she used her words to bring her story and characters to life. The whole series has been wonderfully captivating- and I am hard pressed to pick a favourite because the series just seems to get better and better with each new instalment. I am still convinced that this series would make a superb Television mini-series! It really is different from a lot of other reads- the descriptions and scene setting are so vivid, rich and vibrant- I was “seeing’ it in pictures, rather than merely reading the words. All the sights, smells and tastes of the book come alive, transporting me to Costa Rica alongside the characters.
A fantastic addition to the series and another splendid read from a talented author!

Thank you, Ms. Vaughn!

I was so excited to see Soren get a new chance at love and life! He makes great strides in this book toward becoming a new man. A man I really like. It’s almost unbelievable to see such a transformation, but really, sometimes all it takes are the right people in the right environment to open you up. Plus Soren has always been thoughtful, so he can pay more attention to what he needs to change. I like Elena and the whole community in Costa Rica. It’s such a vast change, but has such happy ever after possibilities. Is it wrong that I am concerned there’s a book after this? This story has a happy ending but now I’m nervous for the future and want Soren to have it all!

I really do not know how to review this book without giving some kind of spoiler to a few of the previous installments to the series. So, I will start with this. DO NOT keep reading after this paragraph if you haven’t previously devoured the other four novels, in order, in the Beckoned series from Aviva Vaughn. I promise it will not be, for naught. Curl up with a blanket and your favorite beverage and let Aviva take you on a whirlwind of a vacation…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dearest Soren,
Thank you for some of the most beautiful memories of my entire life.
I’ll never forget you.
Always,
Angela
Literally, I was bawling here! I mean, I know this was for the best. I knew that it had a point and was going to make sense at some point, but… WHY?
Well, because all great things have a twist, especially novels. Aviva Vaughn writes a lot like the classics, Jane Austen especially. She loves her slow burn and realistic writing. I personally do as well. It is believable and gripping. I often feel as if I am sitting right there in the same room as the characters, or on the beaches of Costa Rica. I can taste the foods, and smell the saltwater on the air. Her story lines are just as realistic and this is ever present in the story of Soren. Which is the most focused on character in this installment of Beckoned.
Soren is figuring out how to recover from losing Angela. A haste decision finds him in Costa Rica. He learns to surf. It is through surfing that he meets the beautiful Elena. The two hit it off, and although Soren proceeds with caution he is willing to proceed at least. But… don’t get too excited, there is a twist around every bend. There is more to Elena than she is telling. Will the past get in the way again?
IF you need any bonuses to this gem, there is a great playlist, featured at the back of the book. AND… A delicious recipe (yup I tried it!) For Elena’ Sol’s Tres Leches Cake is included in the back as well. I was blown away once more by this installment of Beckoned. The overall experience was inclusive and I truly felt like it was a getaway for a day, like I stepped into the world of Soren and Elena. I was so excited when I found out that there would be another one coming soon. “Beckoned, Part 6: Adrift in New Zealand”. Thank you for another fantastic book ‘getaway’ Ms. Vaughn!
She does a fantastic job at developing her characters and reeling in her readers into the story she weaves. This story is no exception to that description. I have been so looking forward to reading the next instalment in this series. I have truly fallen in love with the characters in the story and the author. Her writing completely absorbs me into the amazing world that she had created. Her beautiful descriptions of the settings for the stories are a huge plus for these books – her attention to detail is amazing.
I really did feel for Soren, my heart broke for him a little in this story and I really felt like I got to know him a lot more than I had in the previous books. As soon as he met Elena I could feel the connection, I could almost feel his hope begin to rise to the surface, hope that he might be ok after all. I loved the passion and chemistry between them. I’ve tried not to have a favourite book in this series because I have loved them all so far but I think this one may just take the top spot. I absolutely loved it and I really cannot recommend the book and the series enough!
Beckoned, Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica is a contemporary romance that tells the story of Soren and Elena. Soren is in Costa Rica looking for a big change in his life to heal his broken heart. He finds himself in a small coastal town in Costa Rica. He emerges himself in the life of the town, learning the language, to surf and became like a local. Then he meets Elena. She is from Costa Rica who also surfs but does not want to get involved with Soren. Will she have a change of heart and open up herself to Soren?
Aviva Vaughn did it again, another hit in the Beckoned Series. Her writing captures you from the first page. Her writing is descriptive, where you feel like you are right along side the characters. The writing flows and keeps you engaged. Ms. Vaughn’s characters are well developed and are very believable. What a great story, you feel as if you were in Costa Rica too. I highly recommend it as well as the whole Beckoned Series.
The story BECKONED, Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica by Aviva Vaughn is a contemporary romance book. It is a story that I loved reading. It hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a story about finding oneself. I loved reading about the characters of Soren Lund and Elena Sol. Soren is a man that is trying to figure out just who he really is and his place in the world after losing the woman that he loved. He finds himself in a fishing village in Costa Rica. All the money in the world can’t help him out of his heartache. Then he meets Elena. Elena used to be a professional surfer. She is living in Costa Rica which has always been her home. She is a woman that is beautiful, strong, and independent. She is also a woman who guards her heart. While she finds Soren very attractive she knows that she should keep to her rule of not getting involved with the tourists. You never know when they will up and leave. Soren finds himself letting Elena in bit by bit and is finding himself to be a very different man than the one that first came to the island. Will Elena let Soren into her heart? Will the past have a way of coming between Elena and Soren? Read this story to find out. Soren and Elena’s story is one that includes passion and desire. There are sparks between them and the tension in the room is high when they are together. There are some steamy scenes included in this book. Events with good food, drinks, companionship, and comradery this story has it all. I love how no matter what the scene is the author is so descriptive that you feel like you are right there with the characters. This is a wonderfully written story that I would highly recommend reading. It is part of a series that I also would highly recommend.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Aviva Vaughn has done it again. I enjoyed the rest of the series so much I was unsure how this installment would even be able to keep up. But I’m so happy to report that it did. It’s is quick and well-developed, witty and captivating. I had difficulty walking away from it until I had finished the last page. A page turner, an emotionally charged romance, a wonderful addition to my book shelf. Simply loved it.
