This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The writing style had me hooked from the beginning. It was a hard book to put down and I definitely will be looking for more by the author.
Laurel is about the age where she comes out as a bride to be. She doesn’t want the party, but she gets it anyway. Can she learn to do what she needs to do? The quote I chose for Laurel is: “I have something of the utmost importance to discuss. You know how I seek your wise counsel in every aspect of my life. Now my future, my entire life, depends on you.”

It was a very nice read and even though it was set in the old time, the dialogue wasn’t over powering and still made it able to read. The characters (some of them) were lovely however I felt like it needed more especially in the ending. Parts were very well written and explained and some parts really fell flat. I’m hoping a sequel is next to tie up lose ends!
If I had a sister in law like in this book it would be a murder mystery book haha!

After She Became a Lady by Wareeze Woodson is a nice historical romance/drama/thriller. Laurel Collingsworth is happy to marry her love Lord Robert but he is called away to war soon after. While he’s away mysterious things start to happen and Laurel also has to deal with her sister-in-law who believes that she should take the reins of Lord Robert’s estate. I enjoyed this story. I really liked watching Laurel come into her own. She steps into her power when realizing that protecting her family will have to be her responsibility. This story is well-written and engaging and Laurel is a wonderful heroine. I highly recommend this book.

This is a whimsical wartime romance. A whirlwind engagement is quickly followed by the briefest of honeymoons. Our heroine is left with her (perhaps understandably) less-than-understanding in-laws. What gal can’t relate to that? As new family members become acquainted, hijinks and machinations ensue. Waiting for news of a mutual loved one brings about all sorts of tension. Overall, a great read!

Laurel is 17 and is in love with Lord Laningham. Her aunt, who is her guardian, is worried about Laurel, who is young and impressionable. Of course a gentleman like Lord Laningham could take advantage or put Laurel in a terrible situation she isn’t capable of managing. Finally Laurel’s aunt gives permission. What Laurel doesn’t expect is the way Lord Laningham’s family, specifically his twin sister treats her, after he leaves to fight in a war in Spain. Will Laurel be able to survive her sister in law’s hostility while Lord Laningham returns from the war?

What a great historical romance story! Typically books written in the old english language can be hard to follow sometimes but this one isn’t so over bearing with it.
Laurel convinces her aunt to let her marry Lord Laningham. They wed quickly and head to his estate. Where his twin is quickly against and does nothing to hide it. Laurel is left alone while her husband is away at war and let to defend herself against his sister and her antics.
Those early years of marriage are hard, but Laurel’s is made even harder and with every step forward you see Rhonda kicking her two steps back. The biggest question is will Laurel and Robert be able to survive and will their marriage last?
This book was a quick read but I wish there was more. Some of the story line felt a little empty, like it was missing some of the story. But you imagine yourself on the estate with Laurel as she is going through taking over the house.

A historical romance novel – not my normal genre; however I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is the first novel I have read by this author and I found the attention to detail and descriptive prose leant itself to the authenticity of the period.
Laurel is 17, I cannot imagine living in that era with a husband at war.

First I’d like to say that I usually can’t get into historical books because of the old English, however, I really liked this book and there wasn’t a lot of verb-age that I didn’t understand. I really liked the storyline. If you are looking for a quick read this is not it. That being said I gave this book 4 stars because of the ending. I felt as though it could’ve used another chapter or 2 because I am left with questions that could have been answered rather easily and I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking it. I loved how the book switches perspective’s and the depth of each character. I will definitely be reading more historical romance novels from Wareeze.

I enjoyed reading this historical romance story. This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed her writing style as well as her attention to detail that gave her story a realistic feel. This is a well written story about Laurel and the life events she finds herself in, especially convincing her new husband of the danger he is in. I enjoyed her character and what she brought to the story. She is a strong character and connectable. The secondary characters are supportive and have great growth throughout. This is a story that I found to be fast paced and entertaining to read. A hard to put down story where the characters kept me coming back for more. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that it wasn’t all about the romance and unrealistic happily ever afters. The storyline progressed well and held my interest through out. I enjoyed the main character, Laurel. She was young and in love, but quickly exposed to what can be reality in some marriages. I would for sure read more books by this author.

This story follows Lord Robert and Lady Laurel and is 274 pages in length. Shortly after marriage, Lord Robert is called away to the war in Spain. While he is gone, strange things start to happen. Lady Laurel must share the roll of Lady with Lord Robert’s sister and that does not go over well. As Laurel was only 17, she must grow up very fast in her new role. Now with her husband off at war, she is now alone. What will happen when he returns? Will he be the same?

This was a good 4 star read. This is Laurel and Robert’s story, a historical romance with some thrilling twists and turns. Laurel and Robert wed and when she went home with him things got very interesting from there. Not everyone was happy to hear about the marriage. When Robert gets called away to war poor Laurel is left to deal with a not so nice sister-in-law. Will she be able to work things out with her SIL? What will happen when her husband returns?
Overall I really enjoyed this book. All of the characters added a great element to the story. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

I have come to love reading books from this era and was happy to find a new author to enjoy. This book was well-written and has a way of holding the reader’s attention. An easy read, wonderfully written and has mostly wonderful characters. Laurel is a young lady just coming into her womanhood when she fell in love with Viscount Laurenson. They are quick to marry due to her husband leaving for war in Spain leaving Laurel to deal with Robert’s twin sister Rhonda. Laurel is left at Landings, a brand new inexperienced bride, and at the mercy of Robert’s twin sister, Rhonda, a jealous, spoilt, spiteful woman. Rhonda has been in charge of the Laningham household for so long that it is hard for her to give up the reins to the household. When Laurel figures out that she is with child the jealousy becomes worse from Rhonda. This love story with a twist of mystery is absolutely a must-read if you enjoy period time books. I can’t wait to dive into more books from this author.

While the romance of the story was great at the beginning, the problems with an in law definitely meant the honeymoon was over. Laurel was in love no doubt. Robert’s twin sister was making things hard. It seemed like a good portion of this book was really about the twin sister instead of the romance which made me lose interest to a degree. Overall, Laurel was a lovely person, and we are rooting for her throughout the story.

Laurel is young, in love, and desperate to marry her hero, Lord Laningham. When her aunt agrees to let her marry, she is beyond thrilled to become his wife. However, before they even leave the countryside for his estate, she starts to wonder if everything will be as wonderful as she has imagined it would be. Surprised to find out that he has a twin sister that has been in the role as Lady Laningham, she finds herself in a struggle to take the reins of her new household. Further complications arise when Lord Laningham is called away to Spain on urgent orders. When nighttime noises begin, and midnight intruders are spotted, she tries to convey her fear only to be met with prejudice against her age. Lord Laningham returns wounded to furth complicate matters in their marriage. Can they survive their first year of marriage together? Or will family bonds win over marriage vows?
I really liked this book. Oftentimes books set in the Regency era are centered around finding love, complications arise, and then their happily ever after ending. This book is the after story of it all. I really appreciated a different insight as to being married in that era and dealing with all of the intricacies of running a household, country gossip, and staying true to vows made. This was a very enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this historical romance with a touch of mystery. It made it a unique read. What I love about this author writing is that is is written in the time period the story is set which makes it really realistic and also helps the reader to relate to the time period and the things that happen. I love Laurel’s character and her development through the story starting as a young girl and growing into a lady that isn’t afraid to protect her home and the people she loves.
Robert needs to leave and head to the war in Spain but he is determined to capture Laurel before he goes. Now they are married and Laurel is thrown into a life she is not prepared for. Not only does she need to learn how to run a big estate, but with a constant battle with her sister in law and mysterious happenings in the home she has a lot to deal with. Upon Roberts return things should have improved but is Robert the same man he was when he left? What will he think when Laurel explains all she had experienced and witnessed in his absence? And when it comes down to it will he take his wife’s side or his sisters?

At 17, Laurel knows that she is in love with Lord Robert Laningham. Her elderly Aunt and caregiver has doubts. In the end she gives her consent to marry the Lord. Two days later laurel and Robert get married. He lets Laurel know that he has yet to tell his twin sister that he has marred. Their wedding night is spent in an inn as they need to make haste and get back to his home and sister Rhonda. Once there, he informs his sister that he has wed and she is to show his new bride the ins and outs of running a home so she can take over the duties as Lady of the house. His sister does not take this news very well. Robert has very little time at home before he is off to war. Once Roberts leaves, Laurel and Rhonda are left alone together. During this time laurel finds that she is pregnant. Rumors start swirling that the baby is not that of her husbands, but the brother of her new friend. Laurel, while Robert is away, tries her best to befriend her sister in law to no avail. This book had me on the edge of my seat. i could not put it down! I highly recommend this if you are looking for a historical romance!!!!!

After She Became a Lady is an historical romance story. Wareeze stories are told in the distinctive style of descriptive language for the period, which makes the story flow slowly whilst trying to get the hang of it. The writing is very descriptive, and perhaps too much so at times often leaving me wondering the point of its intent. There are lots of loose ends and unanswered questions and it seemed that others were just glossed over leaving the reader to guess what may have happened.
This poor young woman recently married is thrust into a life of loneliness as her husband is called off to war not long after. It is the events she endures whilst he is away that leave her in a place where terrifying events are taking place, wondering what is hidden in the shadows, distrust, hostility and more. Laurel was a contradiction whilst she was strong in some ways she wasn’t in others. I would have liked to have seen her have a voicing her opinions rather letting things go to keep the peace.
What happens when her husband returns from war? Will he be the same? Will he believe the lives of others? Will they uncover the truth? Will she be cast aside and made to be the unstable one? Can she make him see just who his twin really is?

She’s at the tender age of 17 years old but Laurel Collingsworth knows without a doubt she wants to marry Lord Robert Laningham. Her aunt is beside herself because this just isn’t how things are done! However, aunt Betsy relents and Laurel and Lord Robert are married. Just as soon as they arrive at their manor, things start to challenge their marriage. First of all, Lord Robert failed to sharing his upcoming nuptials with his twin sister, Rhonda. Let’s just say that Rhonda does not handle this news well at all because now there are two Lady Laninghams and Rhonda’s not ready to share that title with anyone. Then, just mere days after their marriage, Lord Robert is called away to fight in the war, leaving his new wife with his hostile and, dare I say, crazy, sister. Will Laurel ever be able to adjust to this new life and deal with her sister-in-law?
This book was enjoyable and kept to a lot of historical speech. I found myself laughing at some of the language used, as it’s not heard anymore and sounded funny. There were parts of this book that were never resolved but maybe that wasn’t necessary because in the end, it’s about Robert and Laurel. I’d have liked to known how certain situations would have fleshed out though. This is a fairly clean read with some romantic scenes, but they are not overly descriptive and could be appropriate for mature teen readers.

This is yet another great historical romance from an author I have just recently become familiar with. As with her other books it is well written, interesting and a perfect fit for the era it is being written in. I was caught up in the story right from the start and this lasted the whole way through. This author has a skill for creating strong characters and I thought that was evident with this book. I was engaged with the characters and really wanted to see how they would work things out. This was a great story overall that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I enjoy historical romance and I do prefer stories that follow after a couple has fallen in love. I particularly liked the Rebecca-style mystery, although the reveal fell kind of flat. Also, the ending wasn’t as punchy and climatic as I would have liked and there were more than a few loose threads and missing scenes. I also felt like the characters could have had more depth and while there was attention to detail, some did become a little repetitive. I enjoyed the storytelling and Laurel as a character

After She Became a Lady takes us back in time to a story of love, danger, suspense, joy, and pain. Laurel is a young innocent girl who falls in love and dreams of happily ever after, but it is ripped away along with her new husband as he has to leave soon after they’re married. Laurel does a lot of growing up during this time. I appreciated the time the author took in researching the time, and keeping the language true to the time period. If you are not used to reading period books, it can take a minute to get used to it, but it helps you to feel like you have gone back to that time. This book was full of mystery and intrigue. I liked the story a lot, but I do feel like the ending was rushed. There is all this suspense leading up to what seems like it should be a big reveal, but it just fell a little short. For this reason, I had to take away one star.

I love historical fiction, and this one did not disappoint. My only complaint is that the story seemed short and not completely fleshed out. Even so, I still really enjoyed it. 17 year old Laurel marries her flame, Robert Laningham. They both adore each other and expect marriage to be easy. Laurel doesn’t expect resistance from her husband’s twin sister, Rhonda, nor does she expect Robert to leave for the war with Spain. When Robert returns from Spain, he acts differently and doesn’t believe what Laurel says. They must overcome Rhonda and a thief and learn to depend on each other. Well written and enjoyable to read!

An enjoyable and engaging historical romance with added drama and suspense which had me hooked from start to finish. Laurel Collingsworth, is seventeen and deeply in love when she marries her hero, Lord Robert Laningham. However, instead of living in wedded bliss, she has to watch her husband go off to war in Spain. As the new Lady Laningham gets used to her new role, and being without her husband, she moves into his ancient mansion. It’s not just her hostile sister in law that Laurel must deal with, but she also has shadowy intruders, mysterious footsteps in the night and missing jewellery to contend with. Having faced a series of terrifying events, Laurel is overjoyed when she learns that her husband is alive and returning home.
However, the wounded Lord Laningham is in no state to listen to his wives concerns, even though she tries to convince him that there is danger within the mansions halls. Laurel must protect herself, her child, her recovering husband and her household, with or without Robert’s help. The descriptive narrative brought both the characters and setting vividly to life, and the added historical details made me feel transported back in time. I loved Laurel, as she is a likeable and relatable character and I felt engaged with her. The storyline flowed well and the plot twists kept me happily turning the pages, and I felt immersed in the story. I recommend this entertaining read.

After She Became a Lady by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance woven with plenty of period detailing and descriptions, drama, danger, mystery, jealousy, angst, and interesting characters. As with the other book of Ms. Woodson’s that I have read, this historical romance is written in the ‘old school style’- keeping true to the language, terminology, social norms, and style of the era, which can take a chapter or two to ‘settle’ into for some readers. While I did enjoy the story, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t love it as much as I was hoping to. There was so much potential here for quite a stellar historical romance, but unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. There were quite a few issues that pulled me out of the story, which was frustrating. I was so disappointed that all the wonderful tension and intrigue that was built through the story, with one of the main threads being the whole ‘mystery’ aspect, which made me feel like we were heading towards something momentous- so when the ‘revelation’ finally came it seemed very abrupt and somewhat of a ‘let-down’ as everything was ‘solved’ and explained away in less than a page- so, pretty much brushed over.…. which was very underwhelming. Also, there were a lot of details that were thrown into the story that didn’t really build or contribute to the story in anyway, except perhaps as fillers/padding/red-herrings- which was also a source of frustration for me. There was a lot of repeated information/details which disrupted the flow of the story, and times where the story slows so much that it lost all momentum, while the last part of the story, and ending, felt incredibly rushed. I love Ms. Woodson’s story ideas and her attention to historical details, and her characters are always very intriguing, so I am interested to see what she will do next. Happy Reading…

I really enjoyed this book. The synopsis grabbed my attention straight away as I love historical romance but this seemed have a bit of an added suspense and mystery to it so I couldn’t wait to get started. Laurel was such a wonderful character and for a woman so young she really came across as strong and brave – she really did cope well with everything she had to deal with in the absence of her new husband. The author writes historical romance very well, her descriptive language is great and her attention to detail makes the story very easy to imagine! Overall a great read!

Wow, I loved how strong Laurel is. She faces so many challenges head on. The writing feels so realistic that you feel like you are there with her. The storyline is smooth and relatable. The characters are well-written. The author writes very good historical fiction that feels so easy to read and is not dull or dry. A strong story that is a must read.

I loved this book! It really painted a picture that sometimes what we want, is not what we truly wanted. As much as we thought, The story was interesting, with danger, and an unknowing fate.
I really came to love this book and very much enjoy the writing of this author! Laurel was a wonderful character. Felt for her. She married for love, and was whisked away in what should be a fairy tale. With her new husband’s sister, it was anything but that. I found danger was at almost every turn for her, her husband felt in the middle. Laurel wanted to live the life she wanted, not live in fear. I was pulled all the way through. I saw a lot of character development with Laurel. The ending….holy moly. I need answers now! I was pulled in and was held to the end. This book was hard to put down!
I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and use of descriptive words. I really felt I was in the historical era! The book was a must read, as well as the author, and I very much highly recommend it!
