Hawke (Men of Syn Duet) by Anise Storm – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow….this book..this story! Charlotte is strong and determined, being on her own and running her very own party planning business. Nathaniel aka Hawke, arrogant, rude dangerous but yet vulnerable and his pasts really haunts him. Charlotte and Hawke did meet prior, but little did she know she runs into him again when he is looking to hire someone to help plan a masquerade party for his new business at Syn. Charlotte wants all of Hawke and nothing less but he will not let Charlotte in as his past haunts him so much. When I read more into this story, Hawke past, it was truly hard to fathom how the people he should have trusted the most let him down. The abuse and torture that he went through as a child really got to me. Then there is a also mystery involved in the story of a serial killer. Who is this person and will Charlotte be his next victim? There is so much to this book and it was hard to put down. This is the first book of Author Anise Storm’s and will definitely not be my last. This is a fantastic book!

Hawke by Anise Storm is the first book in the Men of Syn series. This is a fantastic and intense book in which the characters had such a strong connection. I found this book to be much more emotional than I expected. I tend to find that BDSM books are all about the dominant/submissive side of things and lack the emotional connection. But that couldn’t be any further from the truth with this book. You were really taken on a full experience and it enhanced the reading enjoyment. This is a brilliant book one I cannot wait to read book two.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hawke is the first book in the Men of Syn series by Anise Storm. It was the first time I had read any of this authors work but I was intrigued by the blurb and decided to give it a go. I’m glad I did as what I got is a great erotic story that had me gripped from the very beginning right up to the very end.
Syn is a new BDSM member only club being opened by Nathaniel ‘Hawke’ Hawkins and Charlotte Maxwell is the event planner he hires to plan the opening night of the club. However, unknown to them both, they have met before in a night that neither of them can forget.
I loved Hawke and Charlotte (Charlie)’s story. I was a bit unsure of Hawke at first as he came across as an arrogant a-hole but he soon grew on me and I absolutely loved him. The sexual chemistry between him and Charlie is off the charts HOT and I loved reading it.
The story is very well written and flows well, keeping the reader engaged and entertained throughout. If you like a tasty BDSM story then I’d definitely recommend that you give Hawke a try.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to seeing what Anise Storm has in store for us in the rest of this series. If the rest is anything like this book then we are in for a great ride.

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hawke by Anise Storm is the first book in the Men of Syn series. Fair warning, there are some very intense BDSM scenes in this story.

This is my first read by Anise Storm, but I am excited to read the next. Charlotte is a fiercely
independent, strong minded, and determined woman. She runs her own party planning business and running your own business is great, but sometimes it brings you face to face with people you had hoped to never see again.

Nathaniel runs a BDSM club and is strict with the way he operates; in his personal life and his
business. He picks a random party planner with great reviews, and regrets it immediately. There
are very few people he hasn’t been able to forget, but Charlotte is one of them.

The connection is there, but almost forbidden. Can Charlotte calm the demons behind Nathaniel’s
behavior and remain true to herself? With dangers hidden behind every corner, you won’t want to
put it down.

Hawke by Anise Storm was a very interesting read for me, while I don’t normally read things this dark it wasn’t quite dark enough for me to consider it a dark romance. Instead I would categorize it as a suspenseful romance. While this is my first read by Ms. Storm I wasn’t sure what I was in for by the front cover alone had me ready to dive in. While the BDSM scenes are a little serious for my taste it was still a fantastic read with great characters, plot, and writing and I look forward to my next read from Ms. Storm.

This is the first ever book I read by Anise.

I enjoyed her modern approach to BDSM with this story involving kinks and sex clubs.

The chemistry between Hawke and Char was super hot. She was a strong confident woman who was trying to discover herself more. He had to discover parts of himself too.

The plot was well planned and written. And I think that both their character’s development was good. The book also had some mystery to it. I did not see the twist towards the end.

I for one am looking forward to seeing more of Anise Storm’s work. .

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. The story is captivating. Its one of those books that you can’t put down because you need to know what happens next. The characters are well written and believable. Their thoughts and feelings are easy to understand and you go through all the emotions with them.

Charlotte is a party planner. When she is hired to organise a party of a new club called Syn she gets into a world she’s has experienced before. That experience has left her scared when the dominant male just left her. Still suffering from that moment she is left reeling when she realises that the guy she is working for is the same guy who abandoned her.

Hawke is a successful business man. He loves his dominent lifestyle and all that brings. He has rules and if they aren’t followed he send the women away. Which is what he did with Charlotte. However she is one submissive he has never stopped thinking about.

Now back in each others lives they have to fight the attraction between them but they are both fighting for opposite things. Charlotte is fighting to prove to him they could walk together where as Hawke wants to distance himself. Hawkes past has made him the man he is today and we learn about his past through this story.

The book is fast paced and very passionate and steamy. And along with with deep parts about Hawkes past life it all gels together to make a romance that you can’t put down.

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Syn is the scene of the moment for Hawk and Charlotte. A hot new BDSM, members-only club, being built by Hawke is right where the action begins with break-ins and drug-deals. It’s not even open yet! Charlotte is the party planner for the grand opening. Imagine her surprise to find out that he’s the dominant who kicked her out in D.C. It’s back and forth chemistry between them as they work through their issues. With the help of her BFF, Em, and her cop brothers, Charlotte gains the confidence to tell Hawke exactly how she feels. Hawke grows in learning that his feelings for her are a good things and love is good. All this comes about while trying to avoid a serial killer. There is action no matter where you look in this story along with twisted, steamy BDSM, romance. Hot and action packed. Highly recommend.

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nathaniel “Hawke” Hawkins prepares to open his BDSM nightclub, Syn, soon in Denver, Colorado. He hires Platinum Dreams to plan his opening night on Valentine’s Day. Much to his surprise and that of the event planner, Charlotte Maxwell, the two have met before.

A year before, Charlotte had gone to The Box in Washington, DC. She was to be a submissive, but the Dominant left her before the scene ever got started. After meeting Hawke, she realizes that he was the Dom that left her.

For Hawke, Charlotte has been in his thoughts since he first saw her. He’s not thinking like himself. His tortured past bears a lot of skeletons which even with therapy he still deals with most days. He’s not sure how to get out of this funk.

Charlotte and Hawke must reconcile their relationship, whatever it is meant to be. Can they accomplish this before an unseen adversary takes a possible future away?

Hawke (Men of Syn Duet) by Anise Storm

4 out 5 stars

Charlotte Maxwell was well known in the Denver social scene, partially because of who her parents were and partially because she had been making a name for herself as an event planner. Charlotte’s latest client is hauntingly familiar, but unknown.

Nathaniel “Hawke” Hawkins is opening a new exclusive club in Denver. He randomly picks Charlotte’s company off a list that a friend had given him, but when he realizes who she is, he wishes he had picked differently. The connection is undeniable. Hawke is unwilling to allow Charlotte in his life because he doesn’t believe she will be able to handle his demons. Charlotte has lived a life of privilege and beauty. Hawke’s life has been anything but.

Charlotte’s attraction to Hawke puts her directly into the view of the latest deviant stalking women in Denver. Can Hawke save Charlotte before she becomes the latest victim? Will she save him from his demons in the process?

Anise Storm collides Hawke’s tortured soul with Charlotte’s love. The push and pull between these two characters builds until it seems they might be torn apart forever by something they never expected. I would have enjoyed more background on the stalker and think that this character could have been developed more. The stalker’s identity kept me guessing until the reveal. Looking forward to Caine!

Trigger warning: This story contains depictions of child abuse and BDSM scenes. May not be suitable for all audiences.

Charlotte is an event planner. Hawke is opening a new club and wants the grand opening party to be spectacular. Little did they know, they had already met. He humiliated her and walked out of a scene in a BDSM club one year earlier. She had gotten under his skin then and continues to do so now.
The heat between Charlotte and Hawke is intense. Charlotte’s best friend encourages her to go after what she wants. Even though Hawke seems to be able to turn her down and walk away. Can Charlotte break through his all defenses to be the light in his life? I enjoyed the emotional journey of this story, it reminds me that our lives aren’t always fantastic, but there is hope.

I will begin with saying I loved this book. Read it in one day and could not put it down. This is the first book I have read by author Anise Storm. I will be looking for more with no doubt. This book had me feeling all kinds of things. I was thrilled, conflicted, heartbroken, angry, frustrated, and optimistic.
The connection between Charlotte and Hawke was one of ice and passion. They had an undeniable connection. She is a submissive and Hawke a dominant. She has a great stubborn attitude which I loved. She is a submissive but still is so strong and speaks her mind before thinking it out most of the time. This gets her into some interesting situations. Hawke is a troubled and haunted man so has been through more than any human ever should.
Hawke hires her to plan the opening masquerade ball at his new business Syn, a BDSM club. Spark and fire will fly. I say again I loved this book and will be looking for book 2.

Hawke (Men of Syn Book 1) By Anise Storm. This book was everything I was looking for and more. This is a new to me author and boy am I excited to find her. While there is some issues written about that some might have trouble reading I believe the author does a wonderful job of writing those things. The characters are beautifully flawed and relatable each with a story that needs to be heard. I love a book in multiple POV because it really builds the story in a fuller picture allowing readers to get different angles of characters. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking. I won’t be forgetting this story anytime soon that’s for sure. And I’ll definitely be looking for more by this author. I’m giving this story a five star review and highly recommend it. Can’t wait to see where the author takes readers next.

Hawke (Men of Syn Series Book 1)
By Anise Storm
5 Stars

Hawke by Anise Storm is the first installment of the Men of Syn Series. Charlotte Maxwell is a party planner and owner of Platinum Dreams. While on an appointment for a potential new client for a club opening, she realizes that she know who her client is. Nathanial Hawkins (Hawke) is a dominant and broken individual who has been through hell and back. He is a BDSM club owner and is opening a new club in Denver. He has hired Charlotte’s company to plan the club opening when he comes to terms as to who Charlotte is and what she did on their first encounter in his other club. There is trouble on the horizon for Charlotte, will Hawke set his pride aside and help Charlotte to safety? This story is very steamy and has some scenes that may have triggers for some. I was hooked and intrigued in this book from the very beginning and could not put my Kindle down. The story is told several point of views and keeps you entertained until the end. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a refreshing book! I haven’t read a story like this in a long time and I very much welcomed it. Hawke is the first book in the Men of Syn series by Anise Storm. Syn is a new BDSM club that has opened up and Nathaniel “Hawke” Hawkins is the owner. Charlotte is the party planner that is going to be throwing the Masquerade party for the Grand Opening. The moment she meets Hawke she is very drawn to him in the sense that there is something very familiar about him. Until she realizes what why that is, which is a complete shock to her and mostly to him! This book is mostly about both of them trying to stay away from each other but there is a pull that they can’t seem to fight. Hawke has a past that stops him at every turn. There is so much depth in this book but so much sexiness too. I truly loved the authors writing style and I truly can’t wait for the next book to come out!

A great read about the past. Hawke is trying to get a his new nightclub set up in the local area. To make sure it has the best and biggest opening night, he hires a party planner company to help him out. But it comes with a face from his past with Charlotte Maxwell. Can he overcome his past or will it overshadow his future?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Hawke trying to build his business despite his feelings or Charlotte standing up for herself but vulnerable underneath.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like in Hawke’s office with the desk and chair all organised and a sense of control. Or the weather with its snow and slush and ice cold wild and untamable for a wonderful sense of contrast.
The switch of perspectives worked well to display both sides of the story and was easy to follow with names in the chapter titles. The flashbacks and or memories were written well and didn’t disrupt with the narrative of the present. The only issue I would raise is that there were lots of long sentences making it hard to read and causing repetition in a lot of places. If this was reduced, it would make for an excellent read. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.

Anise Storm has given us an amazing read with, Hawke (Men of Syn Book One), This Erotica thriller held me from page one and until the very end which I was able to read in one sitting. Charlotte is a party planner and right away something seems familiar about her new client and it doesn’t take long for her to remember just who he is. Hawke was the Dominant who scared her just one year ago. Hawke, haunted by his past knows that Charlotte is off limits to someone like him. When she sees and feels the passion they have together, she will stop at nothing to show him just what they have together. Before long, Hawke will have to ask himself, can he put the past behind him and save what and who is future is taken away?

It’s been a while since I read a story with a hot and sexy dominant as the main character but I definitely got it in Hawke!! I was captivated by this book from the very beginning until the end. The storyline was extremely well thought out and flowed beautifully. I loved Charlotte and Hawke and the depth that their relationship grew to, I loved everything about them. There were some good twists and turns in the story and I really felt like I knew the characters well. The BDSM part of the story is pretty hard core and whilst personally I’m not one for this lifestyle it is only a story at the end of the day and the author did do an amazing job when writing the scenes. There are also some other more sensitive topics and triggers in the story and I have to say I only have praise for the author and the way in which this book is written. I think it is probably one of the best books that I have read so far this year.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I absolutely will be reading more from her – I was hooked from the moment I read the blurb and I cannot recommend it enough to other readers!

Hawke (Men of Syn Book 1) by Anise Storm is an erotic thriller with some BDSM themes. This story immediately delves into the suspenseful elements that make this an engaging story. Hawke focuses around Charlotte (the party planner) and Hawke (the client in need of Charlotte’s services). Once these two characters meet, the chemistry is off the charts despite either ones’ choice. Hawke is the epitome of a take charge male and he is not afraid to weld that at his desire. Charlotte is an independent woman who wants who own mark on the world separate from her family. The combination of these two is amazing. Then the author adds in some drama and suspense to add more dynamic and spin on the story. You’ll be kept on your toes as you go on this ride, hold on tight and enjoy!

Holy Mary Mother of God, this was one hot and steamy read! Where have you been Anise Storm?? I apparently have been missing out for quite awhile one some fantastic writing by the hands of Anise Storm and after devouring Hawke, my only solace is that I can recover my book hangover in the pages of the books that she has previously published that I have missed while waiting for the next book to come in the Men of Syn series. If you are new like myself to Anise Storm I believe you have picked the perfect introduction to her writing. This novel has it all. I was pulled in from the very first chapter and captivated till the very last page, often finding myself slowing my pace on purpose to draw in out as long as I could.

Everything is really set up for us in Hawke, where we in fact meet Nathaniel Hawkins, more commonly referred to as Hawke. He is one difficult man to say the least, not saying he doesn’t have his reasons or demons for being that way. I felt for him and everything has its place but this man will make you want to smack him and love him all at the same time. He is balanced rather nicely with the strong and smart Charlotte. These two have a second meeting like no other that will lead to some amazing reading! Throw in a crazy serial killer and hot BDSM scenes and you have the recipe for a wonderful novel. I absolutely couldn’t put this down! I can’t wait to find out what will come next from the Men of Syn! Thanks so much for the fantastic read Ms. Storm!

It was a book that really makes you think and a book that sticks with you, it does take some darker turns, but ultimately its what makes this story and its characters.

The characters Hawke & Charlotte were real, relatable and they had a depth to them, but can they overcome their personal battles in order to move forward and finally get a HEA?

Hawke (Men of Syn Book 1) by Anise Storm is a dark and intriguing erotic romance story that is set around a BDSM club, SYN. This sexy and thrilling read is well written and Anise’s descriptive writing makes it easy to image this dark and enticing world and what the characters have been through to make them what they are today. There is also a murderer on the loose and anyone could be his next victim.

The very mysterious Hawke is as arrogant and magnetic as he is broken. The life he was made to live make him the closed off and cold hearted man he is today. My heart literally broke for this beautiful monster of a man who had never known love, only ever abuse. Can he battle his demons before it is too late to save the one he loves?

Charlotte is a smart and independent business woman who is sassy and fierce and knows what she wants. When she learns the man who is going to be her employer for an event is the same man who literally left her hanging makes for a steamy, sizzling and heartbreaking time.

If you enjoy a little titillating, erotic read with a little darkness then this is for you. I cannot wait for more Men of Syn.

Charlotte grew up in a life of privilege. The only female in a family of four children to very rich parents. Whatever she wanted, she got. Thankfully her attitude isn’t a spoiled brat. Deep down, she knows she’s submissive and decided to visit a BDSM club while in Washington DC. A faceless dominant walked out in her leaving her humiliated. One year later, still trying to get over the encounter, she meets with a potential client who wants her to prepare the opening night of his new club. As fate would have it, this client happens to be the same dominant from Washington.

Arrogant, cruel and cold are words to describe Hawke. He needs to be to protect himself. He had a horrendous childhood and became a Dom to help him cope. He was drawn to Charlotte in DC and still is. She’s beautiful, vivacious and innocent. He’s obsessed with her but knows he’ll break her therefore he needs to push her away to protect her. No matter how much Hawke fights, the two are fated. Danger is lurking in Denver and has targeted Charlotte. Can the two survive Hawke’s past and the evil of the present?

There are scenes in this book that are graphic and may be a trigger for some people. This book is not for everyone. No child should have to endure what Hawke did. My heart broke for him. It fully explains why he is the way he is. This was an intense, dark story.

Hawke was a great 5 star read and book one in the Men of Syn series.
This is Charlotte and Nathan’s (Hawke) story.

Hawke is completing the work on his new club Syn and he wants to throw a great party. Some friends have referred him to call Platinum Dreams. When he meets the owner there is something familiar about her.

Charlotte knows who Hawke is almost instantly. He’s the Dom who left her bound at a club and didn’t look back. It was an experience that left her humiliated. They agree to work together to plan the opening party, the more time they spend together the more the attraction builds.

Hawke has some demons from the past that he is struggling with, Charlotte is trying to get through the walls. Will she succeed?

This is the first book in the Men of Syn series and the first book that I’ve read from Anise Storm and I completely loved it. The blurb itself intrigued me and the story itself hooked me. I would say this is romantic suspense with a bit of heat thrown in.

Charlotte is the biggest up and coming party planner. If you need a party planned, you get her. A year earlier she decided to finally explore her submissive side and it was a total embarrassing flub so she shut down that part of her life. A year later, she is hired to play a party by the Dom that topped her that horrible night. Hawke now has his sights on her as well as a killer well. Thats when everything gets really exciting.

I loved this first book of this series and I’m so excited to dig more into it. This is a definite one-click!

Based on the blurb, I expected this story to be much lighter than it is. This is as dark story that screws with the mind as it progresses. There are lots of elements that are in this story, from BDSM, abuse, exploration and redemption and self forgiveness.

Told in multiple points of view, I did find myself skimming some of the “darker” parts.

This is a series starter and the first book I’ve read by this author and I will be reading future stories.

Hawke is the first book in The Men of Syn Series by Anise Storm. This is my first read by Ms. Storm, so I really didn’t know what to expect going in. The blurb and cover intrigued me enough to want to read the book, so I took a chance and dove in. I am really happy that I did, because it is a really great romantic suspense- with an intense erotic element to it. The BDSM scenes are more ‘hardcore’ than you normally find in a romantic suspense- but the story isn’t ‘dark’ enough for me to categorize it as a ‘dark’ romance either. But be warned, there is some blood, references to self-harm, and horrific abuse… as well as lots of pain. The suspense part of the story is really well done, with plenty of danger and intrigue. But there is also an underlying story of seeking redemption, and ending torment.
Charlotte Maxwell is the owner of Platinum Dreams, an up and coming party planning business. She’s worked hard to make her business the success that it is- earning her the reputation as one of the best party planners that Denver has to offer. A year earlier she had decided to explore her submissive desires, with mortifying results. Now she finds herself at an appointment with a new client- only to discover that he’s the Dom behind her humiliating experience. But with a deranged killer right under their noses, and his sights set firmly on Charlotte, things are set to get quite intense. What happens next makes for an exciting read.
Charlotte is a great character I liked her a lot- she’s smart, beautiful, independent, and stubborn. She isn’t without some issues and insecurities, and that plays a part in the story. Nathaniel (Hawke) Hawkins is an intense, haunted character who has so much self-loathing. He’s broken and stuck in the past. I understand why he is the way he is, and I really feel for what he had been through. No one should ever have to experience what he endured. But he also frustrated me with his mixed messages, and all the push-pull- it drove me a little crazy.
The story is told from several POV’s- Charlotte’s, Hawke’s, and the serial killer’s- which builds a really great picture of what’s happening. There are some memories/flashbacks too, which helps to fill in all the backstory.
I am looking forward to book #2.

Thank you, Ms. Storm!
