Remember His Name (Remember My Name Series Book 2) by Laurencia Hoffman – Review by Ashley Dover

Remember His Name (Remember My Name, #2)Remember His Name by Laurencia Hoffman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading Remember My Name(Book 1), I expected a similar story. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. Many of the problems experienced by the characters in both books are real life situations that people can learn and grow from.

Remember His Name is the story of Wren Stafford, an empath. Being an empath for him as a child was a horrific experience both at home and in school. People, including his father, didn’t understand him and his abilities, so he was bullied and abused. As an adult, Wren found an outlet for his abilities by opening an animal shelter, Paws and Claws. Through Paws and Claws, Wren meets Henry. Henry becomes his husband, but on their wedding day, Wren has a terrible vision. Five years later that vision comes true.

Upon his husband’s murder, Wren becomes a suspect. Despite being innocent, Wren is questioned often by the police and every time a similar murder occurs, he gets brought in again. Despite the harassment, Wren maintains his innocence and keeps looking for answers to his husband’s murder. Can Wren find the man who murdered his husband before it’s too late?

Of Magic & Scales (Of Magic & Scales, #1)Of Magic & Scales by Natalina Reis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Aiden Mercer is an American who has left the DC area to form a new life in Portugal. He wants an easy-going lifestyle, so he opened a coffee shop and spends as much time as he can by or on the beach watching the male population. Aiden’s not as regular as he wants to seem. Since he was a child, he can see members of the magical community.

He doesn’t see many magical beings where he lives and in his coffee shop on a normal day. But one day, after a morning run and a stop at the local bar, he gets a visit from a witch named Taz. Taz tells him about deaths in the magical community. She wants his help to try and solve them. The only clue that they have is that there is merfolk DNA at all the crime scenes. As a former private investigator, Aiden is curious.

Naël Fouchard is a merman that lives in Cascais raising his younger sister. With the suspect having merfolk DNA, Naël seeks out Aiden’s help as well. Although Naël was quite rude to Aiden in previous encounters, he needs Aiden’s help. The two men realize that they have ridiculous chemistry. Their relationship blossoms as they work to uncover the real identity of the serial murderer. Can they solve the murder before it’s too late?

Of Magic and Scales is an amazing story with magical beings. The characters are brought to life by author Natalina Reis. I found myself carried on by the story and cheering Aiden and Naël along in their quest to prove Naël’s innocence.

Tangled Roots (Tangled Magic, #1)Tangled Roots by Denise D. Young
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cassie
In 1974, to escape my brother who was seeking me to bring me home, I created a spell of protection from the Guardian of Willow Creek. I couldn’t return home. I wanted to stay in Willow Creek.
The next time I awake it’s 2019. I reach the farmhouse in Willow Creek that was once home to the leader of my coven only to discover that she is gone along with everyone from my former coven. The only one left is Nick Felson, her grandson.

Nick
That night in 2018 has never left my memory. I haven’t used magic since that time. I’ve just met with a realtor to sell the farm. I can’t stay here any longer. I don’t need magic to keep me happy. I’m ready to move on. Then Cassie shows up at my door.

Their magic speaks. Voices tell them it’s not over. Willow Creek can still be saved, but how?

For witch lovers everywhere, Tangled Roots is a story that Denise Young has woven with magic in every word. Nick and Cassie are wonderful characters. Their story makes you cheer them on in the hopes that they can save Willow Creek.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Avenging Devil Part 1 is another masterful novel by Manda Mellet. This MC romantic suspense novel is one of the best I’ve read in this series. **All novels can be read independently, but I recommend reading in order.**

Niran is a former Marine and has only been with Satan’s Devils MC for about three years. As a former Marine, Niran knows what it means to be a part of a group and that loyalty is needed for the safety of all the members.

Saffie is on the run. After a terrible five years of being married to the VP of the Crazy Wolves MC, Saffie manages to get out with the help of The Freedom Trail, a group that helps victims of abuse start new lives away from their abusers. Saffie’s new identity is set up in San Diego. She wants nothing to do with a motorcycle again.

Niran has to take Mary, Grumbler’s old lady, to the doctor for a pregnancy checkup. While there he sees a lady who seems very much alone. Upon leaving the facility, Mary rushes over to the same woman who has collapsed in tears beside her car after her appointment. With a lot of fuss, Mary manages to get Saffie to agree to let them help her get home. Niran feels an instant connection with Saffie because she needs support. They become friends until she finds out that he’s in a motorcycle club. This drives a wedge between the two, but circumstances change when her ex has found out that she has relocated to San Diego. Fearing for Saffie’s safety, Niran tries to get her to let go of her inhibitions about MC clubs. Will the Devils be able to help Saffie before it’s too late? Will Niran finally find compatibility with a woman that he wants to call his own?

Travels Through Aqua, Green, and Blue: A Memoir by Mary E. Gregory – Review by Ashley Dover

Travels Through Aqua, Green, and Blue: A MemoirTravels Through Aqua, Green, and Blue: A Memoir by Mary E. Gregory
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Travels Through Aqua, Green, and Blue is the story of Mary who was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. Through this memoir, you will understand the hardships, name-calling, and bullying that people who were born with deformities dealt with in a time where being different was not recognized as correct. Mary was born in Nashville, TN to a Baptist minister. Her family was suddenly ripped at its foundation when her father became an openly gay man.

This memoir is the story of Mary’s journey across the country from Tennessee to New York to California and many more places with her family as her mother went on the run. Discover what it is like to overcome to live below the poverty line during tragic moments in American history and how those events transformed her into the woman she is today.

Although nonfiction is not my favorite genre, and I had a tough time getting started with this book, I couldn’t put the book down once I got over my “fear” of a nonfiction work. The story is woven with many kinds of coming-of-age topics that a lot of children and teenagers must endure to come out on the other side and be contributing members of society. I encourage you to take this journey with Mary and discover how your own journey shaped you into the person you are today.

Lindsay Hager has done it again. I loved the first book in the Star Series, and “Competing with the Star” is even better. This book is great for young teenage girls who are looking to find their place in the world of high school. The characters are well developed and their stories are those that you could find in any high school in America.

Hadley had always felt ugly and belittled in school up until this year. Now, one of her best friends was a TV actress, Simone Henderson. And her boyfriend is well…perfect. Horse decides it’s best if Sophie leaves the country for a while, so he takes her to his friends, the Satan’s Devils MC on the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona.

The Devils have decided to house Sophie and protect her. Can they protect her from St. Johns-Davies? What other kinds of threats will come her way?

I am not a fan of motorcycle club books usually, but I was drawn into this story quickly with Horse being the knight in black jeans and a black leather jacket. Sophie’s story is one that many should look to for how to get through those difficult valleys that life can throw at you. Great read!

Her Blackened Rose (The Blackened Series Book 3) by Isra Sravenheart – Review by Ashley Dover

Her Blackened Rose (Blackened #3)Her Blackened Rose by Isra Sravenheart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Her Blackened Rose, book three of The Blackened Series, is the continuing story of Lady Isra and Astrid, her raven friend turned human. Ronald O’Kutte is Kane’s brother, and he is out for revenge. His brother has disappeared, and he knows the witch, Lady Isra, is behind it. Becoming a warlock has always been his dream. To get back at Lady Isra, he must be well-versed in the darker arts. Can he bring Lady Isra to her knees?

The third book in this series is definitely a keeper. Isra Sravenheart has outdone herself in the writing of this series. Each book tells a little different story. This book contains some more information from the past, but this time it is Astrid’s story. The story becomes more compelling with each new storyline.

Her Blackened Heart (The Blackened Series Book 2) by Isra Sravenheart – Review by Ashley Dover

Her Blackened HeartHer Blackened Heart by Isra Sravenheart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Her Blackened Heart, book two of The Blackened Series, is the continuing story of Lady Isra. Astrid, the raven, which Isra gave a human body, is now in the business of protecting Isra from anyone who would choose to do her harm. He has cloaked her castle from the view of any human. Unfortunately, magical creatures can still see the castle although they are not able to enter. Contessia, a Wiccan witch, is full of good. She comes to the castle to find her gnome friend. Unfortunately, she meets Lady Isra and becomes trapped.

After beginning this series, I found that I enjoyed the story more this time. Pieces of Lady Isra’s past are revealed in this book. It makes Lady Isra a more intriguing character.

Her Blackened Soul (The Blackened Series Book 1) by Isra Sravenheart – Review by Ashley Dover

Her Blackened Soul (The Blackened, #1)Her Blackened Soul by Isra Sravenheart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Her Blackened Soul tells the story of Lady Isra. Lady Isra is a witch that has embraced the dark arts. She takes the power of a dragon and becomes more powerful. Isra is a dangerous witch that all young people are told to steer clear of. Her charm is captivating, and she entrances those she meets. In the case of Kane, a mere mortal seeking to be all possessive of women, Isra is enraged that he desires to hold that kind of power of women. She takes him in as her slave. This is the story of that time.

I found this book to be very strange when I started reading it. As time wore on, I became more captivated with the story and enjoyed reading the story. Though it was repetitive at times the story is truly enthralling.
