So far I have read every one of the books in the Eve Sawyer series and I have enjoyed every single one of them. Eve and her friends are looking forward to a nice, quiet vacation and having a good time bringing in the new year. They are housesitting for her friends aunt and have found themselves in the middle of a possible murder investigation. A retired investigator and cadaver dog find a deceased young man at the house they are staying in. Upon the insistence of the man’s family Eve and her friends are on the case. But will they be able to solve it? Or will they become targets themselves? This is a quick read that will have you guessing and solving the case right along with the characters. Any one of these books can be read as a stand alone, however if you want to see how she has evolved I suggest you start with book one.

Bridget and her best friend are on what should have been her honeymoon. After she caughter her fiance cheating, Bridget needed to get away and try to find herself again. After hearing some harsh truth from her bestie she takes off with a bottle of tequila and finds herself on a beach that is deserted and turns out to be private property. Her life is about to be turned upside down. Fynix, or as Bridget comes to know him at first, Fyn, is the crown prince of Lovolia. Upon their initial meeting he doesn’t tell her that as he figured she already knew that particular detail. Imagine his surprise when he realizes that she has absolutely no idea. He didn’t intend to lie, but in the heat of the moment he didn’t exactly get around to telling the truth. Once the royal guard showed up on behalf of his mother all bets were off and Bridget felt betrayed all over again. Now a year has passed and Bridget is back to say her good-bye to Fyn and move on with her life. Fyn on the other hand is showing up in hopes that he sees her again and this time he doesn’t intend to let her walk away. This is the true beginning of their forever. Royally Complicated was a quick and easy read. The characters were enjoyable as well. I liked the no nonsense approach that the best friend Daphne took with Bridget. We all need a friend like that in our lives. This is definitely a book that should be added to your collection.

Phoenix is working hard to make it into the NFL and he isn’t going to let anyone or anything distract him. That is until he met Aspen. After a one night stand they are now expecting a child and all he can think about is their future together. Will Aspen keep the baby though? She didn’t want anything to do with him in the beginning but now her feelings are changing. These two believe they don’t want any kind of romance so a fake relationship is proposed. It benefits Aspen by keeping her parents off her back and for Phoenix it keeps what he calls “punt bunnies” off of his. Will they be able to keep the line firm on fake or will it get blurred and turn real? These two together were great. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series so far, each just a bit more than the last. I will be sad when we reach book eight!

Greta Fay is standing up for what she believes in and it seems to be causing problems in her small town. There are plenty of people that would like to see her be silenced. Christopher is set to marry one of the richest women in the county, Minnie Locke. He is unhappy but reluctantly going through with it to please his father. That all goes out the window when he runs in Greta Fay. Their attraction spells trouble due to her beliefs and his engagement. You can’t help who you love though and this is no exception. This was the first book I read of.this novella series and I enjoyed it. A trigger warning for those that are easily upset by things of this nature, SA is spoken about so do read at your own risk. Otherwise it is a well written and put together short story. I do wish it were a little longer, but even still I didn’t feel like anything was missing. If you are looking to just pass the time and relax with a good read this book will get you through. I have so far enjoyed this series and had read 3 out of the 5 books and enjoyed each of them. If you choose to read this book, or any of the others, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them. Happy reading!

Poor Dusty is down on his luck and on the verge of losing everything due do his gambling addiction. When he returns home from a fay out he finds Lovely Jo hiding in his stable. She has been a fairly good judge of character and pleads for his help. She’s been accuse by her now former employer of killing her husband. Rather than stay and prove her innocence Lovely Jo has been on the run. She’s got a bounty on her head and everyone is looking for her. Dusty could sure use that money and seriously considers turning her in. The thousand dollars wouldn’t completely cover his debts, but it would clear up a chunk of it. Lovely Jo for her part offers him something that has a lot of value depending how you are looking at what is offered. She offers her virtue. Will Dusty end up taking her up on the offer? This book had me laughing in some instances and almost crying in others. Although this is part of a novella series this can be read as a stand alone. Usually I’m not a fan of these short stories like this, but the story never felt like it was lacking in any way. I just wish it were a little longer. If you are looking for a fast paced book that can be read in one sitting you’ve found something to suit just those needs. Happy reading!

Billie Jean is back from college and ready for a fight. When she hears how the Locke family treating the black, she doesn’t hesitate to March over there and give them a piece of her mind. Fisher Hines was born into wealth, it is all he knows. He has is finally at a point in his life where he has the admiration of his parents while running the family farm. Both of their worlds are about to be turned upside down when their insta attraction starts to threaten the family business. Do they fight for love or will their agendas tear them apart? These novellas have been good so far. Of course I personally feel that these stories could be longer, but they hardly feel lacking while reading them. So far the books I have read in this series don’t need to be in any particular order. If you enjoy insta love stories as well as something that is a quick read you’ll enjoy this. Happy reading!

The King family is well known in the world of business. Matthias, being the oldest, is being groomed to take over soon. Ava is the daughter of Mr. King’s driver and has had the privilege of growing up alongside the King boys with Theo being her best friend. She carries a torch for Matthias, but he always treats her as if she is not good enough to step foot in his family’s home. Little does she know that Matthias returns her feeling but has been trying to fight them as he doesn’t feel like he is worthy of her. When a snowstorm moves through these two are stuck together. The hate turns to passion as they can no longer fight their attraction. When everyone returns her father decides to send her to her aunt’s home and she asks Theo, who is supposed to be her best friend but secretly in love with her, to pass the message along to his brother, but he conveniently forgets. Five long years have passed, and she is now back at the King estate. The have to potential to be together and happy but there is someone that stands in the way. Will they get their happily ever after? This was a quick, easy read and very hard to put down. The growth of the characters was great, and they were well rounded. It was a wonderfully written story and I do hope that this is the beginning of a series about this family. I would love to read stories about the other King brothers. As a first-time reader of this author, I enjoyed her writing style and look forward to reading more of her work.

Deadly Vengeance (The Vaccaro Empire Collection Book 2) by Anise Storm – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Deadly Vengeance (The Vaccaro Empire Collection Book 2)Deadly Vengeance by Anise Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a great book that was hard to put down. Luca and Valenzia have a push and pull from the beginning of the book. Luca is out to get back the territory, influence and power that his family lost. He feels that in order to destroy his enemy, the Vacarros, he must destroy their eldest daughter, Valenzia. What neither of them was expecting was to fall in love. This author has a great way of pulling you into the world that she created and making the characters feel real. Although this was a bit fast paced it did not leave me feeling like I had a bunch of unanswered questions at the end. I look forward to reading the next installment.

I haven’t read too many Mafia love stories as it isn’t really something that I have been into. Of the few I have read this series is amongst the top. It’s always nice to read about a couple that has somewhat of a past and ends up getting their HEA. Riordan and Priscilla met as young children and essentially grew up together. Priscilla took a chance and tried to start something romantic with Riordan but he rejected her due to fearing repercussions from her father. It’s been 17 years since they’ve seen each other but the sparks are still there and it seems like no time has passed at all. Although this is the third book of a series it is the first one that I have read. There was great character development and the author did a great job if keeping me engaged. As a friendly warning this book does touch upon and talk about the SA Priscilla went through so read at your own risk.

Detective Scala is up to his neck in trouble. After finding an abandoned car with blood in it, he takes it upon himself to solve the crime. Unfortunately for him he discovers that another victim and the two crimes seem to be related. Not only is he trying to solve two crimes at once, he is also trying to keep an important witness alive as well. The crime scenes point to Mafia involvement, but as always anything is possible. Follow Detective Scala on another adventure. I have read one other book in this series and this one was just as good as that one. As far as I can tell they do not to be read in any particular order but I like to read a series in order. This book was engaging and kept my attention trying to solve the mystery. If you are in the mood to read a good mystery and forget the real world for a few hours this book will do that for you.

Jeff and Kia are in for a big surprise when they get introduced by Max, Kia’s son. Jeff is coaching Max’s t-ball team and the last thing he expected was running into a one night stand from six years ago. When she drops the bomb on him that Max was a a result of their unforgettable night together he is thrown for a loop. How could she not have sought him out to let him know? Their chemistry is still there, but Kia has reservations about being with Jeff due to his celebrity status as a baseball player. As with any relationship these two had their ups and downs. They both only want what’s best for their son, but will that include Jeff & Kia rekindling their romance? This book, like the others in the series, can be read as a stand alone. It can be read in one sitting and once you start you won’t want to put it down.

The Hawke Family is back! I loved the series with the OG’s and now it’s time to enjoy the stories of the younger generation. This is Jude and Angelina’s story and it will give you all the feels. Even though they are from the same family, Jude didn’t come to the family by blood. These two have been through a lot both together and separately. Trying to figure things out and meet in the middle was hard, but they were able to persevere. I don’t personally feel like these books need to be read in order, but I like to know who’s who especially because this is a complex book family. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings.

Detective Scala is back and up to his neck in mystery of whodunit. After finding a note attached to a deceased young man in the cemetary he is determined to find out every last one of the dark secrets mentioned. How deep does the corruption go? What makes this interesting is that the unsub seems to be a poet. The poetic notes have the clues hidden to help the dogged detective solve the crime. The author did a great job of engaging the reader from the beginning and keeping them engaged until the end. I enjoyed going along for the ride with Detective Scala and look forward to solving more mysteries.

Jody is a mystery to Holt and he has never been more interested in solving one. With all of his friends settling down, has Holt finally found the one? It’s always nice to be able to curl up and read the day away with a sweet romance. I became a fan of this author after I read the first book in this series and none of them have been disappointing. In this story we meet Chase. He’s a ladies man who isn’t ready to settle down until he meets her, Angelica. She just so happens to be the teacher of his nephew and he has her in his sights. The characters are well developed and I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve. If you like fast paced romances with HEAs pick up any of of the books in this series. They can all be read as standalone, but of course it is always worth it to read a series from the beginning.

I’ve loved every single one of these books so far. The search for the defectors continues with book seven, Master Campania. You must read the books in order to get the full picture of this on-going war, but they each have their own love story mixed in with all the action. Campania and Willow seem to be fated mates, but with he being a vampire lord and she being a witch it is forbidden. Or is it? Campania has been a bachelor for too long and Willow has been told never to trust a vampire. Will they learn to trust in one another and their feelings while trying to find those that oppose the vamps? I can’t wait for book 8!

The Book of Hours (Coin/Hours Duology Book 2) Audiobook by Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Gabriela Martinez is a well known author that is about to put her book up for auction. People are willing to do anything to get their hand on her book. At least one person is willing to take her life. There are plenty of twists to keep you listening, or turning the pages if you are reading the book. A few times I felt like I was getting lost when things from the previous book were referenced, but I was able to piece things together without any issues. This was the first book I have ever picked up by this author. I will be going to read book one and I will definitely be checking out her other works.

All of these books have been great. I can’t wait to see how the author wraps them up in the seventh book. These books all flow so well and the pages fly by quickly as they are so hard to put down. In this book the gang goes on an all expenses paid trip to Paris. They don’t know who their benefactor is, they just know that they have less than 24 hours to pack their bags. It also just so happens that the Paris Exposition is also happening. A stranger befriends Emma and Jeremy on the ship while an older couple befriends Dora and Tim. Will they be friend or foe? Of course the crew gets tangled up in a few mysteries that challenge their investigative skills. If you like investigative mysteries any one of these books can be a great starting point.

This was a little hard to read at times due to some of the things discussed. It is definitely not for anyone that could be triggered by topics of abuse so read at your own risk. This is a story of Logan and Victoria. One has had a good homelife, while the other did not. This is the kind of book that makes you root for a happily ever after for sure. I wasn’t expecting it to be as dark as it was, but I had to know what happened next and just kept turning the pages. I usually can’t stand a story that switches back and forth between characters POV, but this one flowed seamlessly. The timelines all added up and there weren’t any gaps going from the past to present as it switched from Victoria to Logan and vice versa. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2 of this series.

The opening of this book gives you a peek into the mid if a murderer. The framing of Professor Mitch Wegner was no accident, it was a well thought out plan. Who is the real culprit? The plot twist ending is not exactly what I expected. Although this is fiction, it does teach a valuable lesson is be careful about who we bully. This book will keep you hooked and it is a fairly quick read. Psychological thrillers are usually hard for me to get into as I feel they are a bit slow going, but this one kept the story flowing. I have never read anything by this author before, but they have definitely gained a new fan.

All Aspen wanted to do was get away from her fighting parents. Cliff diving to clear her mind she never imagined she would run into the gorgeous bad boy, Phoenix. Emotions and feelings she isn’t familiar with come up when he saves her from falling when she accidentally runs into him. Phoenix isn’t looking to get a girlfriend, but this girl could be the end of that. Their one night stand is about to turn both if their lives upside down. Will they end up becoming a couple? This prequel gives you just enough info to get you hooked and begging for the full story of Aspen and Phoenix. I’m also dying to know if his twin, Shane, finds out he’s the reason for the end if his relationship with Tracey. I felt bad for Shane, but I absolutely understood where Phoenix was coming from in regards to that whole situation. I can’t to see what happens with these characters and how everything works out for them.

I swear these books are too short! Book four in an eight part series is here and it was another good read. Damon and Skylar are still dancing around one another, but the attraction is too intense to ignore. Skylar finds out that her father, who has been in prison, is set to be released and he wants revenge. Damon, understanding what is about to happen from the experience with Riley and her mom, asks the one person he truly loathes for help. Will Damon be able to save Skylar in time? Each book in the series is good on its own, but to get a better background you should read them in order. Damon has always had to be tough and act like he didn’t care, he is your typical bad boy. I felt like he matured a lot over these last two books and we finally got to see that vulnerable side we have all been waiting for. I can’t wait to read the next installment of this seires.

When we are young we make promises to friends with the best intentions. Most promises aren’t too serious, or we don’t remember as time passes. Laurent and his friend Phoebe promise to get married to each other if they were both unattached at 40. Phoebe turns up after a significant amount of time to cash in on that offer. Laurent isn’t so sure he wants to make good on the promise after she left him behind without so much as a goodbye. Will they get a happily ever after? This was a good friends to lovers, second chance romance that can be read in one sitting. I have never read anything by this author before and I did enjoy her writing style. I look forward to reading more of her works in the future.

I just want to know if the author will be writing books for the whole team? Lol. This another good book and it can be read as a stand alone. However since some character to pop up that are in the previous books reading books one and two isn’t a bad idea. Heath and Grace first meet at the bachelor auction that benefitted the animal shelter ran by Grace. Is there such a thing as instant hate? If there is then these two has it down pat. Grace disliked Heath because she thought he was arrogant and cocky. Heath dislike Grace because she was bossy and he definitely didn’t like her treating him as if he were a child. They start to become close when they have to be in close proximity of one another and are then left alone due to unforseen events. As they get to know one another they realize that they don’t hate one another after all. There may be a chance at a real relationship if both participants are willing. I have enjoyed this series and hope there are more.

This was such a good read! The author had great details and you could visualize the landscapes she was describing. The dates used, the late 1870s, there were a lot of Indian wars happening. Being raised by my grandmother I heard stories that were passed down to her from parents and grandparents about boarding schools, not being able to speak their native language, and getting their hair chopped off. I was fortunate enough to have a history teacher that gave us more than a chapter or a few paragraphs from a text book about these wars. Yes, there are many books out there where you can learn about certain wars but I feel like there was nothing better than hearing what my ancestors had to go through for me to be here today. I especially enjoyed Thunder being able to become a warrior as it was rare for a girl or woman to do so. She was such a strong character and I could only imagine the emense strength it took for her to not give in and forget everything about her language and culture. The only fault I found with this book was the abrupt ending. I do realize it was meant to be short since it’s a novella but it kind of caught me off guard. I look forward to reading more works from this author in the future.

The last person she expects to run into is someone she let go of a long time ago. There is a huge secret she had kept from him and it looks like the time has come to let everything out. Kyle is living his dream life playing a sport that he loves, but he is missing out on sharing it with the one that he loves. Fate steps in and puts her back in his path at a mutual friends wedding. Will they pick up where they left off or will Celia’s secret tear them apart forever? This is a feel good second chance romance. You are definitely rooting for the couple to work things out and end up together. This is the first book I have read by this author and really enjoyed her writing style. She does a great job of bringing out the emotions of the characters and making you feel what they feel. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series.

Zara is a great, strong female lead. As a sports agent she gets along with everyone and gets the job done closing out deals. The one person she can’t tolerate, or so she keeps telling herself, is Noah Ashe. He’s done nothing to her to warrant such hatred except for walk in on her naked, save her life and then vanish. Noah had his reasons for vanishing and he has yet to share that with anyone but his therapist. Maybe Zara will be the first? After Zara said no to being his agent it has become his mission to annoy her. Due to unforseen circumstances Zara is asked to step in at the tale end of a deal by her good friend and Noah’s agent. The last thing either of them expected was to share a kiss at the end of the night. Noah is all for moving forward and having a possible relationship, but is Zara? In my opinion this book is too short, BUT it is good! The author made both characters very relatable and really brought their personalities to life. It was fun to see Zara come to the realization that she had romantic feelings for Noah and that she felt less lonely when he was around. Although this is part of a series you can read it as a stand alone.

This was a great second chance romance. After 5 years Christy and Ryan are reunited while he is rubbing elbows with the elite at his new country club. He’s recently moved into the community when he spots her behind the bar. He’s been doing big things and living his dream of playing in the NFL, but his life is about to change. Christy left after a colossal misunderstanding and never looked back. Now that Ryan is back in her life things are starting to look up. Ryan takes to fatherhood as if he had never been away from them. This was a fun, steamy read that can be read in one sitting. I loved all the characters. I definitely need to go back and read book one to see if I missed anything, but I don’t feel as if I did. Being in love with your best friend is hard. Not knowing they reciprcate those feelings until its too late is harder. Lucia and Angelo have a tug of war going on about whether or not they should be together. They grew up together so they have been inseparable, until there was one rejection too many. Lucia decided to walk away from Angelo and try to forget him. When she finds herself pregnant and unsure of what to do she runs to the one person who has always been there for her. I have enjoyed all the books I have read by this author so far. Even though this is part of a series you never once feel lost. The story flowed well and it will keep you turning the pages.
