Back in the Ring (The Predator #4)Back in the Ring by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bijou Augustine has had it a bit rough recently. She became a widow fairly young and is also raising her daughter. While he was still alive she and her husband had opened a youth center that had been their dream. Times are tough and she is desperate to keep the dream alive. As Bijou makes phone calls trying to get donations to keep the center open she is met with a consistent stream of no’s until one call changes everything. Noah enters her life and she finds herself being attracted to someone for the first time since she lost her husband. He has been hurt and has his own secrets and troubles to work through. It may be more than Bijou can handle given everything she is dealing with. Will these two give a relationship a try? I enjoyed this entire series and the chemistry between characters. I have read other books by this author both is a series and as individual books. The stories always flow nicely and don’t ever seem rushed. I highly suggest checking out her work.

Hope Collins has just broken up with her boyfriend and quit her job. She needs to get away for a vacation, or just start over new. What better way to do that than to find out that you’ve won a scuba diving resort in the Carribbean? Unfortunately, the previous owner has gone and left you to fend for yourself. She finds help along the way from staff members that have been working there. She also has a potential love interest when she meets the scuba diving instructor named Alex. He has also been hurt and has been surviving, not truly living. Could Hope be the one to help him be whole again? Alex and Hope were enjoyable characters and I enjoyed reading this story. I have always wanted to go to the Carribbean and the descriptions in the book make me want to go even more. I hadn’t planned on starting a new series but I will definitely be reading the other books to see what Hope and Alex get up to.

The Apothecary’s Curse (The Apothecary Series) by Barbara Barnett – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

The Apothecary's CurseThe Apothecary’s Curse by Barbara Barnett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Simon Bell, a physician in Victorian London, is looking for something to cure his wife who has cancer. He gets an elixir made by the apothecary Gaelan Erceldoune that is meant to cure his wife, but it does the exact opposite. Beside himself and not wanting to live without her, Simon takes the rest of the elixir, however he has now become immortal. Five years pass when news reaches Simon of a man in the Bedlam Prison that has the same powers as he does. To his surprise is it Gaelan. Now they must hunt down Gaelan’s missing manuscript if they want to reverse this strange phenomenon. Those diaries are unearthed in the present day by Transdiff Genomics where Anne Shawe works. She and Gaelan have a connection that leads to shocking information coming to light. There is so much going on in this book but the author did an amazing job with the transitions between past and present. That is hard to do whist keeping the reader engaged and the story moving forward. Overall this was an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to start on the next book.

Rock Crush and RollRock Crush and Roll by Hunter Snow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

15 years have passed since Tyler and Cary have seen each other. They went to school together and each had a crush on the other but nothing came of it. Cary is a world famous rockstar and confirmed bachelor. Tyler is a music manager and has sworn off dating musicians. Will the make an exception since they are still attracted to one another? Rock Crush and Roll was a fun rockstar romance that I had no problem getting into. I enjoyed the easy flow of the story and the chemistry of the characters. I will definitely be looking for more work from this author.

These three lovely ladies head for the village to try and identify this person. However, Neferet may become the next victim if she isn’t careful. The family of weavers at the heart of the situation isn’t ready or willing to give up their secrets so easily. Once again the author has written a story that will keep you turning the pages to see if these women are successful.

Flowers of Evil (Hani's Daughter Mysteries #1)Flowers of Evil by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Neferet and Bener-ib have just opened a medical dispensary. Their very first patient was a florist by the name of Amen who unfortunately expired. He had some parting words that were shrouded in mystery. This kicked them into gear and becoming a sort of detective to find the killer. Who knew that trying to do the right thing could cause so much trouble? This was a very engaging book with lots of drama and mystery. The glossary of words and meanings was very helpful and came in useful from time to time. From what I have read about ancient Egypt this author put in some serious hours of research. Overall I give this a 4.5/5.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kellan has been being a wild child and nobody can reign him in. His brother is tired of cleaning up behind him and keeping the family name in good standing. Kellan thinks getting away from work will do him good and takes a three day vacation. When he meets Salem on his trip they both agree to one night, no names. One night turned into a few and then came the day they said goodbye, or so they thought. When he is called back to clean up the latest mess he left, a PR fixer is also called. Kellan and Salem thought their fling was over but it seems that was just the start to something more permanent. I enjoyed these first two books and am looking forward to reading about the next brother.

Greer and Theron, our main characters, weren’t meant to fall in love. The circumstances in how or why they met was meant to leave Greer deceased, but Theron had other plans. Greer is facing a marriage to a stranger after being taken from her hometown of Paris against her will. In order to save the friends she has made in the convent, as well as Theron, she makes a deal with Hades himself. Does she succeed in saving her loved ones? This is the first book I have read by this author and I loved it. Both leads were strong and the story was easy to follow. I will definitely be picking up the second book.

Scott is known as a ladies man amongst his friends. They told him when he met his match that it would be a knockout and Beth is it. She’s broken and he wants nothing more than that to help her heal and get put back together. She has been hurt so much by her past but is slowly healing with him by her side. I have enjoyed this little series and was glad to see that these two got their own little story. It was a quick read and I wish there were a little more to it but it was enough to get to know these characters on a deeper level. If you liked The Predator parts one and two then you will enjoy this short story as well. It definitely recommend reading them all.

The town is actually Allentown in North Carolina, but someone shot the sign making the second ‘L’ look like an ‘i’. This little town has secrets that it doesn’t want to get out. When Moira’s sister Claire doesn’t show up for their scheduled visit she starts to get worried. Sure Claire is scatter brained but she would at least find a way to get in touch right? Moira is on a mission to find her missing sister and she starts in the last place that she was known to be. Moira tries to get help from the Chief of Police in Allentown, Seth Call, but the last thing he wants is for the big secret to get out. After all, whatever or whoever took Claire is not going to give her back. This was the first book I have read by this author and it was a page turner. A long time ago I tried a Sci-fi book and knew it was something I most likely wouldn’t pick up again. I’m glad I took the chance on this one and I hope to read more from this author in the near future.

The latest installment of The Notebook Mysteries was worth the wait. Jeremy and Emma are once again undercover but this time they are helping a family friend. Emma goes undercover as the deceased man’s sister to see what can be found out about his demise. It seems the motive was money, but where is it? Was the money real or just a way to get attention? All of these books have been fun to read. They all have little ways of tying the books together but they don’t necessarily need to be read in order. I do highly recommend you read them in order so you can get a broader picture of this complex group of characters.

She is once again determined to find out the truth no matter the cost. What happens when her very own bookclub member have secrets on more possible deaths? Murder the Tey Way is a good second installment to this series. The pace was steady throughout and it had a good cast of characters.

In this one we have Tessa and James. Tessa has recently opened her very own bakery and has become very successful over night. It seems that it happened over night and she couldn’t be happier. However she has someone out there who would like nothing more than to sabotage everything. She is getting threatening letters and photographs, but the police are unable to help. She enlists the services of PI James Moore. They have an undeniable attraction but he doesn’t date clients no matter the circumstances. Is he willing to make an exception with Tessa? I’m so glad I took a chance on this author when I picked up the first book in this series. I have been looking forward to this installment and I was not disappointed. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense you definitely need to check these out.

Drew and Katie met at a Halloween party and had a pretty eventful night when they git chased by the police. Neither of them expected that they would end up falling for each other. Drew was busy building up his IT business and playing hockey. He didn’t have time for much else. Kat had been burned one time too many by guys using her to get a shot at meeting the professional players. Even though they have an amazing chemistry word in her inner circle says that Drew is known as “Mr. Casual”. Can they really have a serious relationship? This is only the second book I have read in this series but it is a great standalone. The author made the characters both relatable and likeable. Although it is a quick read, it is enjoyable and engaging.

I honestly don’t really know what to say about this book other than it was a great read. This book was not what I expected, although I don’t really know what I was expecting. I solely chose this book based on the cover without reading the synopsis. It started off innocent enough but before you know it things turn into chaos. I have been venturing away from romance more often so this genre and author are both new to me. This kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the pages to see what was going to happen. I look forward to book two coming out and seeing where this series is going to take us.

Blakely and Jamie were happy and engaged at one time. Tragedy tore them apart. Jamie has been away serving in the Navy but he is back home trying to honor the wishes of his late friend. When he comes face to face with Blakely again she has a new boyfriend who happens to be the brother of the deceased. There is a lot of mystery surrounding what ended his relationship with Blakely and how his friend ended up passing. Of course any curious person is going to read this book from cover to cover to find out all the secrets that get uncovered. These characters are well rounded and relatable. The author did a great job in bringing these characters to life and giving us, the readers, a great story to immerse ourselves in. Blakely and Jaime’s pain is relatable to anyone that has either lost a friend or had their heart broken. Even though you may shed a tear or two this is definitely worth picking up.

Cadence is stuck in what seems to be a loveless relationship. Her fiance is from a weathly family and as such she is expected to behave in a certain way. However she seeks to find excitement and gets the chance when her step sister invites her to a concert. It’s not really her scene but going to a rock concert couldn’t hurt, could it? Damien, the broody lead singer of Rebel Rebellion catches her eye. Or does she catch his? The attraction is instant and the sparks fly. Damien doesn’t have time for relationships no matter how fascinating the woman in question may be. Damien & Cadence are perfect for each other and I feel that the author made that come through the pages. The characters are relatable and likeable which makes you root for them to be together. It also makes for a page turner that you won’t want to put down.

Cameron and Jessie were most inseparable after a tragedy. The only good things in her life, so she thought, were Cameron and her love for ice skating. But she even lost her passion for skating when she started being bullied. When she turned to the one person she felt most comfortable with she got quite a shock when an unknown female answered his phone. This causes her to move away which breaks Cameron’s heart. In all the years that Jessie was gone Cameron was able to pick up the pieces and move on. He has met someone new and things appear to be going well. Now that their good friends are getting married Jessie is back. Their feelings come roaring back as well. While they try to find their way back to one another there is someone who wants to keep them apart. I enjoyed this rollercoaster of a ride. This was a fairly fast paced book with lots of emotion and drama. It will keep you turning the pages and has a guaranteed happy ending.

This was a good wrap up on K.C. and Chamberlain. These two had many ups and downs through these two books and you are definitely rooting for them from the beginning. Now that Chamberlain has found the one that got away he doesn’t want to let her go again. They have so many things and people against them that it seems impossible for them to get a happily ever after. I was so glad to see that these two were able to work past the heartache and all the obstacles that were in their way. The author did an amazing job yet again. If you haven’t read any of her books you are missing out!

The Predator Part One is the latest in one of her series. K.C. and Chamberlain couldn’t be more different but as the saying goes, opposites attract. K.C. grew up in a prominent family as the daughter of a senator. Everything was dictated for her from how she walked and talked to the man she would marry. Chamberlain on the other hand grew up poor. The only thong in the world he wants is to be a fighter and he would not deviate from that path. He just never anticipated meeting K.C. and falling in love. Their relationship was as fast as it was furious and it eventually ended up with K.C. getting her heart broken. Now they have come face to face again but she isn’t ready to forgive. Will Chamberlain get K.C. to listen? I can’t wait to start book 2 to see the outcome of K.C. and Chamberlain’s story. This author has other great books out there and you should definitely go and check them out.

Taste of Honey is three short novellas in one. Book #1 The gift is about a lonely librarian named Penelope Hart. She gets left a series of mysterious gifts that lead her into a world she could only ever have dreamed of. Book #2 The Commanders Club follows journalist Courtney Fox who is on a mission to save her protege. There she meets FBI agent Ty Dragon who has been there working undercover. When these two meet sparks fly. Book #3 Once in Love follows a lady named Laura Brooks who is talked into being a courtesan in London. She had been stranded there without a penny to her name and takes the job as a temporary solution hoping to fake it until she makes it. Nick Renault is a self made millionaire who has been in a bit of a funk since he became a widow. To help pacify his sister-in-law who thinks he’s depressed, he goes to the courtesan auction. He isn’t interested in anyone in particular until he sees Laura. He buys her services to save her but winds up falling in love. These short stories were engaging and had just the right amount of spice.

Puzzleman is definitely a book that will make you think. This was way different than anything I have read before and I enjoyed it. The complex web of how everyone is connected will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I am not usually one to pick up a book like this as it is way outside of my comfort zone, but the cover drew me in and I figured I would give it a chance. Details for any kind of book are important and the author did a great job in that department. Overall I enjoyed this original story and wouldn’t mind finding what else this author has to offer.

This was another enjoyable book by this author. I have read one other book in this series that was also a MMF romance. This story follows two good friends Nicolo Stark-James and Matty Remington. Nicolo fell for Matty in their youth and they loterally saved Matty’s life. They nursed him back to health and then he was taken away for safety. Nicolo goes on to med school to become a doctor where he meets and falls in love with Eden Godwin who is going to school to become a nurse. They return to his home to announce their engagement to his family and end up running into Matty at the local church. He finds that he still loves Matty after all this time, but he loves Eden as well. What will he do?

While I did enjoy this book I have not read the series yet. I am definitely intrigued and want to read the series so it has been added to my to be read list. Blurring the Lines follows the true beginning of what happened before the band broke up. Even though they are one of the biggest bands in the world, sell millions of records, and sell out concerts they are all barely hanging on. Callum feels like he is the only one that cares and he is tired. The touring is getting to him as well so he turns to drugs for an escape. His best friend, Maverick who is also the lead singer, is worried about the path he has chosen. Killian has his own family drama going on while Sammy tries to keep everyone together. He can only do so much though and it is inevitable that things need to end. Becca is trying to get out of Chicago and aspires to have songs written about her. She doesn’t care which rockstar it is as long as she becomes immortalized in a song. I look forward to reading the series.
