Tale of a Body Thief (Rovena Silvex chronicles Book 1)Tale of a Body Thief by Kristy Centeno
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a well written first book and a new author to me. The synopsis is what initially got my attention and I was intrigued enough to want to read this story. It started off with action and I wondered what kind of demon hunter I was reading about. Of course being a fan of the long running TV show Supernatrual I had a few ideas in mind about how she would vanquish these beings, but it was nothing like that. The simple yet effective method the author put forth made me do a double take, haha. Normally Rovens’s duty is to kill a demon, but when she is sent to find out why a Marked was killed and who did it she accidentally brings the body back to life with a new soul. She doesn’t know exactly how it happened as she doesn’t quite know the full extent of her powers or why they only work sometimes. Instead of hunting demons and offing them she is now tasked with keeping one alive. Will she be able to gain the trust of her sworn enemy? Or will the enemy turn out to be her downfall?

Sydney wasn’t even supposed to be a part of the game, she was invited as a plus one at the last moment. Was there an ominous reason behind her invitation or did her aquaintance/former teammate Becca really just want her to distract Landon? Kage, Judge and Loki invited this particular set of people to play a game: Truth or Kill. Only they seem to know everyone’s deepest, darkest secrets and they intend to expose them all. This game of blackmail turns deadly and there are many players. Will the true killer or killers be found out before the game is over or will there be no survivors? This book was… I’m not even sure there are words to describe my feelings on this one. It was really a great read! I really would like to know how the author came up with the concept for this book and then brought it to life. Pick up your copy of Truth or Kill and go along for the journey, you will not be disappointed.

This book kept me turning the pages! Evan Adler has recently medically retired from the NHL and recently became and athletic trainer for a women’s gymnastics team. His whole family has been involved in hockey on one form or another and he feels as though he let them all down. Callie Pearce knows a thing or two about hockey, but her heart lies in gymnastics. When she sees Evan running by with the hockey team one day she calls dibs and decides to take her shot. Will they find love and happiness together? I feel it was admirable of Eva though, even of he is a fictional character, to step away from what he loved for his mental health. It is a serious subject that doesn’t get as much attention as it should, but has been coming to light more often. The author did a great job and now I need to go find the rest of the books in the series.

I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into when I picked this book but I think I found myself a new favorite author. This was the perfect combination of suspense and romance. Detectives Foster and Hamilton are sent to retrieve an inmate and bring him back to Dallas to face justice. They had spent many months hunting the man down and he was hauled in for something minor. The inmate has plans for Ms. Foster and none of them pertain to having a nice chat over coffee. In the meantime these two detectives are fighting to maintain a professional relationship instead of giving in to the sexual tension that runs between them. After picking up their ward they are heading back to base when things take a wrong turn. The killer gets away and he is hell bent on getting his prize, Detective Foster. How will things play out between the detectives? Is there a happily ever after in their future or will she become the victim of a sadistic man?

I’m not a huge fan of historical romance type stories, but the synopsis of this one intrigued me. Isabel is set to be married to a man she has never met. When she learns who she intended to marry she can’t help but internally question her father’s choice. Surely he wouldn’t sacrifice her happiness by marrying her to the enemy? Will she find happiness with Sir William and be able to be a good wife? I have to say that I would not have been able to go through with an arranged marriage. Not knowing whether or not you’re compatible with your other half would be hard. This book was enjoyable and pulls you in from the start.

Where should one look for inspiration when there is none to be found? Destiny is an author who writes romances, but she is in a bit of a slump. Enter Niccolo Mancini, an actor/musician who is looking to make a jump across the pond and make it big in America. They have a chance meeting when Detiny’s best friend has a photo shoot and needs her to step in. Will sparks fly or have there been one too many tabloids claiming Mr. Mancini as a playboy? This was a very slow burn, but I found it a likeable story. I stopped reading it here and there to do other things, but it can easily be read in one sitting. I liked the feisty side of Desitny but found myself wishing she had higher self esteem.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great book! This is hands down one of the best books I have read this year. The story itself was believable, especially when it came to showing the bullying being done by the popular clique. Nathan has a big secret that he doesn’t want to get out. Nobody in school knows, except for Holly. She only found out by accident and he will do anything to make sure she keeps her mouth shut. How far will he go? Holly has been crushing on Nathan since the first day she saw him in her new school. She wanted to believe that he was one of the jerks after an incident involving her friend, but the more they spend time together the more she sees that he is a good person. When he asks her out she thinks he’s kidding. Why would he want to date her? When feelings get involved and the secret is being threatened, how far is too far in keeping it? Secrets don’t stay hidden for long.

Morgan Cutler is back and this time she has even more ghostly friends. She has made peace with those that occupy her house, but a new one has cropped up and she intends to find out why. This one is named Esmerelda and it seems that Morgan’s new boyfriend has caught her eye. Why has Esmerelda tried to attach herself to Caleb? Having come to terms with her newfound abilities she is starting to see more people who haven’t fully crossed over in the hospital. Do they need help in finishing business they were unable to finish? I enjoyed the first book of this series and I have enjoyed this one just as much. This book could be read as a stand alone, however there are a few returning characters and there are references to the first book. Overall the author did a good job of reigning the reader in and gave us a good plot. I felt that the story flowed well and didn’t drag on too long. I do hope there is another book in this series and look forward to reading it when it comes out.

Oh Victoria, fake it until you make it. She made herself a deadline to get a promotion at her current job as a reporter by her 30th birthday. Where will her big break come from? Billionaire tech giant Seth Pierce. The notoriously private man is on the hunt for a new executive assistant, but none of the candidates he has interviewed seem qualified enough. He expects to go through the routine questions, but somehow the tables get reversed and he doesn’t really know what hit him. When she reveals that she is not the candidate named Kim he is intrigued. Who is this woman? He feels as though he has found the right person for the job, but when he finds out she is a journalist that all may change. When he tracks her down and makes her an offer she can’t refuse will she take it? I have enjoyed each Pierce brothers story so far. These can be read on their own, but like with any series it’s always a good idea to start with the first book as you may want to know the stories behind other characters.

Having read the first book I was curious to see how a relationship between Bridger and Tia would turn out. The author left us little nibbles here and there in the first book and definitely made us want to read more. Bridger is a playboy who is trying to clean up his image. Tia seems to have a bit of a wild side, but she is done with the bad boy type. How can she say no to a weekend long fling with one of the hottest men on the ice? Neither of them are looking for more, but will they catch feelings? The synopsis left states near the end that these can be read as by themselves, but I highly recommend reading them in order. Many of the characters are reoccurring and there may be little easter eggs about what is to come in other books.

Romance under Aquarius (Stargazing Series Book 1) by Danielle Jacks – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Romance Under AquariusRomance Under Aquarius by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was an interesting book and it didn’t take long to read. This book follows four people, three of which reside in or near Atlantis and a human. Maris is the princess and is betrothed to another royal named Ryn. Ryn is looking forward to being the next king, but he is in love with Pasha who is the best friend to Maris. A sticky situation that gets even stickier when Maris saves a human named Kasper. Kasper in on a quest go find the jug of Aquarius which he hopes will rid his brother of cancer. How far will Kasper go to find this mythical item? Will Maris return to fulfill her duties and marry the cheating Ryn? Will Pasha get the courage to walk away from Ryn? The author gave us a different perspective from each character which I normally find messy in a book. The different perspectives worked well and were seamless in transition. The story kept a good flow without feeling like there were pieces missing. I saw that this is a series of 12 books and I am interested to see what the next book will be about.

Yet another book in the series that will keep you turning the pages. Even though this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone. I have come to enjoy all the books so far and I have to say this one I was whole heartedly able to relate to on a certain level. While Jonas has gone on and made millions more for the company his family started, his counter part of the book is trying to get her big break in the culinary world. MacKenzie is no longer that young and naive girl Jonas hurt with his actions back in high school. When their paths cross again it is unexpected for both of them, but the desire and longing is still there. Will they reignite the flame they once had? Getting over the past isn’t so easy, but will they be able to move past all the hurt and build a future? There is one major secret that MacKenzie hid from Jonas and she intends to keep it that way. If Jonas finds out the secret will he ever be able to forgive her?

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising Book 1) by Nadia Han – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an enjoyable book. The relationship between the characters is complex, but so relatable in a lot of ways. Remington, Remi as he is known to his friends, has had a bit of a rough childhood. He spent a lot of time with the Wu’s and practically saw Audri grow up. He never wanted to admit he had started developing feelings for her when he saw her working on her jewelry one day. Audri has always had a crush on Remi, but never acted on it as she thought he only saw her as a sister. When she started getting weird and semi threatening text messages Remi had his PI look into who was behind the screen. I have to say that in a way he was looking out for her like an older brother would, but when you got a look into his mind with the author’s writing you could tell there was more to his feelings than he let on. Even though Remi didn’t think he was worthy of someone like Audri, she begged to differ. I felt that these characters complimented each other perfectly. Although the you belong to me behavior doesn’t appeal to me, I was glad to see that the female character wasn’t going to let a man push her around and make her feel like she was a possession of any sort. I look forward to reading more books by this author and can’t wait to start the next chapter in this series.

The author does a great job of telling the stories of each individual brother and the women they come to love while trying to take down the man they call their father. I’m very glad I took a chance on an author that I had never heard of before because I have come to find some great stories that I want to keep going forever.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was hooked! Poor Kally was forced to marry the brother of the man that she loved. Should Clark have made his feelings known sooner? Yes! Would it have made a difference? Probably not, but we may never know. His father knew exactly how much it would hurt Clark to have his brother marry the woman who held his heart. It was cold and heartless, but neither Kally or Clark had any power to stop the wedding since she signed a legally binding contract. Will they be able to get their happily ever after? This was an interesting read. I don’t read too many thrillers, but the synopsis of this one caught my attention. Josie is a single mother of two children trying to get a divorce from her husband. He was into illegal activities among other things and she was more than ready to move on. When a body shows up a few miles down river from her property she becomes a prime suspect. In a place where everyone seems to know more about her than she does herself, who can she trust? Will she be able to clear her name by investigating and finding her own evidence? Will she be able to find the real killer?
