Beneath: Two Book Bookset by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

Beneath: Two Book BoxsetBeneath: Two Book Boxset by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beneath the Secrets is the first part of Hugo’s story which includes many flash backs to high school and his forever crush on Ava. We first met Hugo in the Enigma series but this box set can be read without reading that series.

Oh Shandi Boyes! What have you done to my heart!?! Beneath the Secrets? Oh no you just created more secrets! Oh and that ending?! I have said this before in my reviews, there are some books that just make you say WTF did I just read…so yeah, right now, Shandi Boyes what the actual…did I just read!?!

Hugo’s story is huge! It starts when he was in high school, crushing on his little sister’s best friend, Ava. But being a player, he kept innocent Ava at arm’s length. Ava was raised by overly strict parents, with a father that bordered on mental abuse. Ava and Hugo’s friendship never falters over the years. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, at least for these two it does. However, lack of true communication, secrets and jealousy keeps them from getting a happily ever after, at least for now.

“I want a man who has no qualms in showing his affection even with a house full of spectators. A man devoted solely and entirely to me. That is what I want and crave. That is what I deserve.”

And then the second part of Hugo’s story is Beneath the Sheets. Shandi Boyes has given us another book boyfriend! We learn that our main character, Hugo, is protective, thoughtful, caring, sexy, strong and so much more. Beneath the Sheets is the conclusion to Beneath the Secrets, which makes this the perfect boxed set. Hugo made some choices in his life and we learn just how devastated he is from the choices he felt he had to make in his past. Those choices, of course, didn’t just devastate him but they devastated those he loved as well. His mother and father, his siblings, and Ava. Ava is the love of his life. And everything he does, he does for her. What he doesn’t know is that his choices, while made with the purest of heart and good intentions, crushed Ava. He also doesn’t know that Ava is waiting and praying for his return. A return that is a long time coming.

“It shouldn’t matter if it is a week or a year, if they are who your heart desires, that’s all that matters.”

I believe all readers of romance novels are looking for the kind of love Hugo has for Ava. Time doesn’t matter. Distance is no object. Nothing will stop Hugo from finding his happily ever after, even if he believes he doesn’t deserve it.

Shandi Boyes has a writing style that makes you want to just keep reading. The characters in her other books have become your friends, your family even. You want to be them. Beneath the Sheets is no different. Every one of her stories have had me turning page after page, non-stop! I loved that Ava wasn’t a weak female. Yes, she loved Hugo with her whole heart, yes she was crushed. Did she roll over and die when he made his choices? No, not quite. She needed to live and Shandi Boyes made sure she did. The male characters are swoon-worthy while the females are determined and strong. We all want someone to love while being loved right back and Ava is no different.

Definitely recommend this boxed set!

Beneath: Two Book Boxset by Shandi Boyes is a beautiful gift to all of her readers – you get both books in one go and do not need to come up for air when drowning in this smashing contemporary romance. I have read quite a few books by Shandi Boyes and though you can read these two books as standalones, they are actually in some ways part of the bigger series (Enigma). I am sure once you finish these two, you will feel compelled to go looking for more!
Beneath is the story of Hugo and Ava. They are meant for each other but of course nothing is that simple when it comes to life! It is a story about love, family; friendships that go beyond the mundane, sacrifice, guilt … you just name it! Hugo is battling demons and at times they win, Ava has her own baggage that brings along its own challenges … nothing is straight forward here! There are 5 YEARS between the first and second book!!! After these five years Hugo returns to face the music, to try to make amends and pray that Ava’s heart is big enough to give him another chance …
I cried and I laughed and mostly I cried … The story will take you hostage, play with your emotions and at times you are not sure where is up and where is down, it is such a rollercoaster, such emotions … and it is not just women who feel here, it is also those strong alpha males! I could not put the story down … Do yourself a favor and read it! You will not regret it!

The Perception of Reality (Perception #1-2) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

The Perception of Reality (Perception #1-2)The Perception of Reality by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Perception of Life: 4 stars

What did I just read…

This first part felt like I had read it before, it felt vaguely familiar. Maybe I have read another story like this one but then I got about half way through and I knew this story was nothing like anything I had read before. It starts out just how you would think a story about a young rising rock star and the love of his life would be. Good times and rough times getting to know each other and trust each other and just survive without each other. Crazy fans and crazier paparazzi.

This story will have you laughing out loud, rolling your eyes, breathing a sigh of relief and swooning when-ever Noah enters the scene. Page after page of wondering and assuming what could happen…but then something totally different happens! The ending is what leaves you asking why Shandi? Why?

Reality of Life 10 stars!!

Readers’ tears are not that great!! Oh the heart break!! What have you done Boyes!! What. Have. You. Done. What a great twist!!

Part two of the Perception of Reality is the Reality of Life! The realization that you must go on when something tragic happens. The realization that life is not always rainbows and unicorns. The realization that sometimes not everything is as it seems.

Readers are advised to have their tissues ready for the first half of this book for their tears and then be ready for your mouth to be hanging open for the remainder of the book! This story is fast paced in a slow motion, this can’t be happening kind of way.

The story continues right where it left off in book one. Noah is almost too good to be true, but then again that is what makes him the perfect book boyfriend! And Emily…oh Emily. The realization that these two have to go through so much turmoil is heartbreaking. But thankfully Boyes pulls it all together and mends our hearts in an unbelievable way.

WAY TO GO SHANDI!! Highly recommended!

Spy Thy Neighbor (Enigma, #7) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

Spy Thy Neighbor (Enigma #7)Spy Thy Neighbor by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spy Thy Neighbor gives us a funny twist to voyeurism. This book while steamy and hot was funny and heart-warming as well. This book is book seven in the Enigma Series but can be read as a standalone. I suggest reading the entire series because everyone loves a good story. For those of you that have read Shandi Boyes’ other Enigma books, you know of Hunter Kane. You know the following to be true not only for Hunter but all of Boyes’ leading men!

“Hunter should come with a warning because once you’ve been swept into the Hunter vortex, there is no possibility of being discharged from it.”

Paige is our leading lady and has fallen into Hunter’s vortex rather quickly. She is an author with writer’s block. Luckily enough, she has a little money and the time to travel, with the hopes of finding a muse and unblocking her words. Enter Hunter! However, Hunter has other plans, mostly to just be friends. You must read this to find out how that works for them!

I loved watching Paige learn to love and appreciate herself. You can tell she was hurt by her past but not so devastated that she could move on and grow. With Hunter’s “friendship” she learns many things.

“Just like the carefree Paige who only emerges in Hunter’s presence, a new, unstiffened Paige surfaces in the bedroom as well.”

I highly recommend this story, with or without the rest of the series. But you can read my other reviews highly recommending the entire series.

It wasn’t until after reading the Enigma series, that I learned that Hugo would have his own story told. Little did I know that Hugo’s story is huge! Beneath the Sheets (Enigma #6)Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes is the conclusion of Hugo’s story and the sixth book in her Engima series. You definitely cannot read it as a standalone! You would be so lost that it is not even funny! I actually suggest that you not only read Hugo’s first book but that you read all the 5 preceding books!
As said above, Beneath the Sheets is the conclusion of Hugo’s story and I have been waiting for it for ever! (Or at least it feels like for ever …). It is a story about love, family; friendships that go beyond the mundane, sacrifice, guilt … you just name it! Five years have passed since we left Ava behind and disappeared with Hugo and now it is time for Hugo to face the music, go back and make amends and pray that Ava’s heart is big enough to give him another chance …
This book will take you hostage, play with your emotions and at times you are not sure where is up and where is down, it is such a rollercoaster, such emotions … and it is not just women who feel here, it is also those strong alpha males! I could not put the story down before I was finished with it and then I went and checked when the release date of Hunter’s story is and I pre-ordered it! I love your story telling Ms Boyes and I impatiently am waiting for Hunter’s story! I wonder who will be next … Please do not keep us waiting too long! We need our Engima world fix!

Beneath the Sheets: Hugo’s Story – Book 2 (Enigma 6) by Shandi Boyes

5 Stars

This is the second book in Hugo’s story, I absolutely loved the first and feel the exact same about this one. This story takes place five years after the first book and in that five years Hugo has been presumed dead by everyone that loves him and those that are out to kill him. Losing his sister and her unborn baby 5 years ago took all rational thoughts and actions out of the picture for Hugo. Walking away from Ava, the love of his life is another pain he will never stop feeling.

Many things have changed for Ava since Hugo’s disappearance and the loss of her best friend and her unborn baby. She’s never gotten over it and it almost ruined her. She had to stay strong though and has ended up in a less than ideal situation.

When Hugo decides that he is done hiding and running and learns that he isn’t the only one with secrets can he prove to those he loves that he won’t run again? What happens when an unexpected kiss could interfere with every part of his future?

I couldn’t wait to read this story, and now have the rest of the Enigma series yet to read. This author has won me over and I absolutely love her style, and her character building. I can already tell I’ll have these books in my to be read again file. Loved it!!!

Enigma: The Final Chapter (Enigma, #4) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

Enigma: The Final Chapter (Enigma #4)Enigma: The Final Chapter by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have really enjoyed reading this entire series. I highly recommend it. Especially to those that like cliff hangers, sex, a little mystery, a little adventure and lots of action and even more sex. There are loveable and hate-able characters in every book and The Final Chapter is no different. I am looking forward to reading more from Shandi Boyes.

Isaac and Isabelle have faced all kinds of turmoil through-out their short intense love affair. Arrests, their own jealousy and even other people’s jealousy, FBI investigations, and just about any other thing Fate and Shandi Boyes could throw at them. But somehow, some way they come out stronger and even more in love, if that is even possible. This book has the greatest challenge EVER thrown their way. Watching the growth of the two main characters and even a few of the friends through the series made my heart grow. I could only imagine how Boyes feels after having written this series.

“It was only then did I realize that life’s greatest accomplishments can’t be calculated by wealth or power. It’s measured by the people you have in your life. And that is why I will stop at nothing to ensure Isabelle once again becomes mine, because she is without a doubt, my greatest accomplishment.”

The first book of this series had so much sex that I wasn’t sure if I could love these characters or enjoy the series. Of course if you know me I will give everything a chance, including things/people I’m not 100% sure of. I am so glad I continued this series!!! I absolutely love Isaac and Isabelle! Each book just got better and better with this, The Final Chapter, the best one. Again I am looking forward to what come next from Shandi Boyes.

Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked (Enigma #3) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked (Enigma #3)Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Each book in this series just gets better and better. However, the title for this book is a little deceiving, the mysteries are not unmasked. Some things have been solved but then more questions have arisen in their place. So I guess that is one of the things making me want more and more of Isabelle and Isaac. Thanks Shandi Boyes!
This book starts off where the last one ended. Each book in this series must be read in order. While the first book was setting the scene for Isabelle and Isaac’s whirlwind of a relationship with more than enough sex, the second book let us see a little more into their personalities. This book, the third in the series, gives us the heart break we need in order to hopefully find a happily ever after in the last book!?
Shandi Boyes has a writing style that captivates the reader. Much like her characters do. I love how we get to see inside both Isabelle and Isaac’s minds because just when I start thinking “what in the world are they thinking?!” Boyes gives me the other side of the situation.
The ending in this book, to me was a given. I just didn’t think it would take so long to actually happen. It’s not a surprise but it sure sucks for Isabelle. She says so herself a few times in this book that the whole world is against them, of course she uses a few choice words that Amazon won’t let me use so you’ll have to read the book to get the actual quote! Trust me on this…you want…no you need to read this series. My recommendation is to go one click the entire series right now!

Unraveling an Enigma (Enigma, #2) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

Unraveling an Enigma (Enigma #2)Unraveling an Enigma by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

And then there are some books that make you say WTF did I just read! How can it “end” like that!? Why Shandi Boyes, WHY?!? That’s how I felt after finishing this book!

OMG what a better story line this one has but with the same intensity as book one. I really felt like book one was just about Isaac and Isabelle’s uncontrollable sex life, but I can now see it was the building up for THIS BOOK! This story continues off right where book one, Enigma of Life left off. Isaac and Isabelle have been separated by the truth that Isabelle is an FBI agent and she may have withheld that information from Isaac. He finds out when she has to arrest him. The chemistry these two have is just as hot as ever but because Isaac gets arrested there is way less sex! Book one was over the top with it, which made my feelings for the characters just so so. This book there is a little more “unraveling” of the characters’ personalities and actual character, making me love them both! And then there is this enlightenment for me:

“It is hard to explain, but this is us, we show our affection through sexual contact. Our love, our desires, our needs, they are all reflected in the most intimate ways.”

This was the eye opening into Isaac and Isabelle’s fast paced relationship that I needed. My feelings about book one changes a little with this statement. I found this book was much harder to put down than book one. ~Darn 9-5 job!~ I can not wait to see what Boyes brings to the next book. I definitely recommend this book but only after reading the first one.

Enigma of Life (Enigma #1) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Shannon Fowler

Enigma of Life (Enigma #1)Enigma of Life by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story would have easily been a five star if there had actually been a little less sex! (I can’t believe I just wrote that!) But really. Our main characters are Isaac Holt and Isabelle Brahn. And boy oh boy do they have a lot of sex together. Bathrooms, airplanes, counters, cars. Yeah a lot of sex. They also have a lot of secrets from each other. I’m not really sure how I feel about these two. There is no denying the chemistry and lust they have but do they have more than that? Can they really have a relationship in the true sense of the word?

“His mouth-watering scent invades my senses and spurns on my pursuit to offer him comfort in the only way I know how. Sexually.”

I think even Isabelle hopes there is more to them. “I know my relationship with Isaac could be construed as only being based on lust and attraction.”

I liked the feeling while I was reading that something big was going to happen. There are a few characters mentioned and situations referred to that could add up to a big explosion in the end.
Did I mention the sex? There’s a lot of it. I’m worried about what happens when their work lives meet their private lives. It seems the secrets that they keep from each other may just be the ultimate downfall or that big explosion in the end. Isaac says “If you are going to be accused of something, you may as well do it.” To me this is a little foreboding and may actually be the catalyst to the explosion!

Just when I thought the “relationship” might turn into something a little more than just very hot sex, like maybe a happily ever after, real life meets work life, which equals the end of this book! GRRRR!! And BOOM! Shandi Boyes certainly had me turning the pages as fast as I could!

Definitely only for those readers over 18. Quickly moving onto book two to find out what happens with these two!

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma #5) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Jana Teppih

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma #5)Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beneath the Secrets is the fifth book in Shandi Boyes’ Engima series and it is the first part of Hugo’s story (I am not really happy that the writer split his book, I would totally have been happy like a clam with a 600-700-page story, just saying!). You could read this story as a standalone and maybe it is smart to do so as then you are not haunted by what you have learnt about Hugo in the previous Engima books but on the other hand, you get much better understanding of some of the other characters if you have read the first books.
I knew that Hugo had his own story to tell and I thought I might have some sort of idea after having read all of the previous Enigma books but oh boy, was I setting the bar low! It was the case of that what people show you is very far from what is actually going on behind the ‘walls’, why do I keep getting surprised?!
Hugo’s story was a very emotional story to read, I have to say that his story is probably more gut wrenching than Isaac and Izzy’s story! (Sacrilege, I know!) Hugo is battling demons and at times they win, Ava has her own baggage that brings along its own challenges … nothing is straight forward here!
I cried and I laughed and mostly I cried … The story gets its claws into you and does not let go! I really do hope that the writer will not keep us waiting too long for the second part of the story! Do a favor and read it! You will not regret it!

Enigma: The Final Chapter (Enigma #4) by Shandi Boyes – Review by Jana Teppih

Enigma: The Final Chapter (Enigma #4)Enigma: The Final Chapter by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Enigma: The Final Chapter Isaac’s Story Book 4 by Shandi Boyes is the fourth book of the Series and definitely not a standalone. As the title says, it is the final chapter of Isaac’s story but it is not the last book, there will be more! Hugo will get his book and Hunter’s book is next so I am sure or more like I hope, we will hear more about Izzie and Isaac and Callie…
I have loved every book of Isaac’s Story and I have to admit, it has gotten better with every installment. At times I thought I had figured it all out and then… a total twist, there was actually nothing that I had figured out and that made the ending even sweeter!
In the final chapter we really find out if the love and trust between Isaac and Izzie will stand in the face of their greatest challenge so far … We will see how far Izzie will go to protect Isaac and how she will face her greatest fear.
I highly recommend the series to everyone! You will have many enjoyable hours ahead of you!

Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked (Enigma #3)Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked by Shandi Boyes is book three of a four book Series. I do NOT recommend to read it as a standalone! You will lose out on so much!
I read this book in one setting and luckily I had the last book of the series as well already so I did not need to suffer an Enigma hangover and could continue to the last book of Isaac and Isabelle’s story.
There is something about the way Shandi writes, any time I think that it cannot get any better, it does… she creates these powerful pictures and stories with her words, you get sucked into the mystery and questions and heartache along with the characters. You question your sanity and ask yourself what would I do in this situation. You lament and laugh and keep your fingers crossed. You get angry with Izzie and feel like shaking her and when the book is over, you find yourself reaching for the next book as how can one stay angry with Izzie, really?
What is also great about this third book is that you Shandi starts getting more into the secondary characters as well, we learn more about Hunter and Hugo and Reagan … it all fits into storyline so it is not forced.
I recommend that you take a whole weekend for this book and have the fourth book at hand, otherwise the story will haunt your dreams and you will be distracted at work!

Enigma : The Final Chapter (Enigma #4) By Shandi Boyes – Review By Heidi Eich Woodring

Enigma: The Final Chapter (Enigma #4)Enigma: The Final Chapter by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Enigma: The final Chapter and book four and the LAST about Isaac was truly just another book by Boyes that I loved. I might have cried because this is the last about him, and I fell in love with each and every book about Isabella and him. Another book that draws you in and will hold your attention to the very end. I have to say this review will be harder for me to write because I do not want to give away any details.

We are shown again in this book that Isaac will protect those that he loves because when he loves, he loves with such a passion and such a force that it will blow your mind. We again see that Isabella is strong no matter what is thrown her way. Will you learn what Enigma really is? Will this couple that has grabbed our hearts make it through all the trails that have faced them? You must read to find these out but I will say be prepared again to read in one sitting because this book will grab you and not let you go.

I have never read a series about such strong, dedicated couple that clearly are meant to be together. I wish Isaac and Isabella could go on forever and ever because I really feel that there is so much more to learn about them both and the other characters. I have become fully addicted to the WHOLE series and plan to reread many time because they are that good and threw me into yet another book hangover. While yes many answers will be answered, you will want more and more but I have to give this book 5 stars and again say that Shandi has knocked it out of the park again. She is an extremely gifted author that I plan to follow. I see a future with this one because her books are those that captivate you, draw you in, and will stay with you always. Bravo Shandi on one of the best books I have ever read! Now I need to cry again, I love Isaac and will miss him terribly!

Unraveling an Enigma (Enigma #2)Unraveling an Enigma by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unraveling an Enigma: Isaacs Story by Shandi Boyes is Book 2 of a 4-book Series. You can read it as a standalone as the writer is able to write in a way that you do not feel as if you are missing anything BUT I would not recommend reading this book before reading Book 1 first, you would be missing out a lot.
It is a powerful story about the unconditional love, breaking the rules and endless devotion. As I had read the first book I planned my whole Saturday around reading Book 2 – I knew that I wanted to start and not stop until I was done with it. And I did so! I laughed and I cried and I sat on tender hooks while keeping reading to find out what is happening and the ending… oh my word, I cannot wait to start on Book 3!
The book gives us more insight into why Isaac is the way he is, we get to know other characters more and of course, we fall more and more in love with Isaac along with Isabel so we feel what she is feeling…
Shandi Boyes is an amazing writer and has a true talent. I am really happy for finding this author and I cannot wait to read Book 3 (and I think I will need to make time to read the other books in her Perception series so that I could learn more about Isaac’s brother Nick and…).

Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked (Enigma #3)Enigma: The Mystery Unmasked by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shandi Boyes, Enigma: The mystery unmasked, was simply just another amazing book about our favorite guy Isaac. Ever since time I pick up a Shandi Boyes book, I fall in love. But Isaacs’s story has stuck with me and he is the ultimate book boyfriend to me quickly removing many that have held that status. I never want her books to end, but let me tell ya the cliffhanger at the end will make ya get mad, but let me tell ya tell ya, it’s so WORTH IT!

Isabella continues to see so much good in Isaac and wants to clear his name even if that means she breaks her own heart to do so. She’s wants others to see the good in him and not just what people are hearing through rumors. Isaac is strong, determined, and wealthy and will always protect those that he loves. Isabella is HIS and he will protect her at all COSTS! Isabella is being told to stay away till his name is cleared and Isaac is also being told he also need to stay away till he clears his name.
Again, Boyes has given us a story to get lost in with amazing characters that you fall in love with even more as each book tells this story. Isabella truly is one of the BEST characters I have ever had the chance to read. I love that she is so beautiful yet she doesn’t see it, I love how her emotions make YOU FEEL. I cried a few times with this series and I have ever only cried to two book EVER! I loved that no matter what Isaac or Isabella was going through they had amazing support. A book that can make me mad, cry laugh and feel so much gets five starts and so wish I was able to give more. Shandi Boyes truly is one of the best authors I have read in so long and I CANT wait to read more from her. I highly recommend this book and ALL the others she has written. She draws you in and you WILL NOT be disappointed!

Enigma of Life (Enigma #1)Enigma of Life by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Enigma of Life – Isaac’s Story is the first book in the Enigma Series or Book 6 of Perception series. It is all about Isaac.
I cannot tell you how much I loved this book! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! I just finished it and I know what my next books are (Books two, three and four), I am happy that I happened to read the first book when all the other ones had been released already, don’t know how I would have managed to survive the wait!
This book sucks you in and doesn’t let you up for air until you are done with it! I have to confess, I read it in one go! I am completely in love with both Isaac and Isabelle, they both are complex characters and dig their way into your heart. When the book ends, your heart breaks and you feel the need to go and get the next book right away (I will wait until tomorrow as I have to go to bed and work tomorrow!).
It is not your typical love story, there are ethical questions Isabelle struggles with, the past that both of them are impacted by and the undeniable chemistry…
I so recommend the series to anyone who is looking for a story that spans multiple books, keeps you on your toes, finds you rooting for complex characters that have earned your love and admiration and has some hot sex thrown into it. You will NOT be disappointed!
