You cannot miss this amazing and addicting series that pits mortals against the Fae in all out war! I was so excited to get my hands on Shadow and Crystal Thorns, book 2 in Kay L. Moody’s entrancing series and it did not disappoint! Fun and refreshing with a beautiful world to explore! This second installment was the perfect sequel and I was left speechless. You can truly feel a powerful growth in each character since book 1 (Flame and Crystal Thorns) and the courage and strength that Chloe emits is as graceful as it is motivational. We could all use a little bit more healing in our lives! I also really enjoyed getting to know Ludo and Mishti as much as possible! Kay L. Moody does a wonderful job at showing you the good and bad of both sides, the Fae and the Humans. I couldn’t even try to pick a side that I think deserved to win more. Some scenes were so emotionally intense that I caught myself creeping towards the edge of my seat! I am so excited to see how this series reaches its final conclusion in Blade and Crystal Thorns! March 21st cannot get here fast enough!

This is literally one of my very favorite series I have ever read! It is by far my favorite series of the year, and that is quite a big accomplishment in my eyes. Sometimes it is difficult to get back in the feel for the next book in the series, but Kay L. Moody pulled it off flawlessly.

Chloe is still in Faerie trying to help fae win the war against the mortals. She believes she is fighting on the right side of this war, but after finding out why mortals want Faerie, she has a harder and harder time staying on that side. She is split down the middle between her own kind and the kind that she loves.

I have zero qualms recommending this to everyone! You will want to pick up the first book in the series, Flame & Crystal Thorns, to get the best background and feel for the story. I am clamoring for the third book and wondering how I’m going to make it all the way until release day!

I would read the first book of this series first but read these books by Kay L. Moon. This book picked right where the last one left off. I was happy to get this book so I could see where Chole’s story was going lead. After reading this book it was good to see that she is still her old self but has grown. There is a love story inside this action-packed world. The first book is world building, and the second book builds off that world but really adds to the characters. I love how the characters will surprise you. I’m ready for the next installment to see where this story goes.

Chloe and Quintas, mortal and fae, back at it again to save the realm of Faerie from Portia and Julian, evil cold-blooded mortals who will stop at nothing to take over Faerie. With the help of Ludo, Mishti, and Shadow, Chloe’s dragon, Chloe keeps pushing through to save the people and return to the mortal realm to save her sister, Grace. If Chloe was clumsy before, she’s even more so now that she’s lost a foot, but that doesn’t stop her from discovering new creation magic methods and her apothecary practices to heal the land and themselves. The relationship between Shadow and Chloe, as well as Quintas and Chloe are growing stronger and stronger, with nothing to break their bond. Highly recommend! It keeps you on your toes in this fantasy adventure!

Chloe is a strong-willed apothecary hiding from the fae after a traumatic event in the Faerie realm when Quintas, a fae from her past, tracks her down in need of help. Faerie is under attack, and only Chloe has the creation magic possible to help stop the mortals from taking over the realm, hurting her own village townsfolk and family as well. She’s stubborn, smart, and tries her best to not give up when it comes to saving her loved ones. She may not be the strongest or toughest of heroines, but she certainly continues to do her very best. Plus there’s a sequel to this story too, so we can stay in this magical world Kay L. Moody created.

I had an inkling this book would leave me with a cliffhanger based on the previous book, but I’m not as upset this time around. It is better to read the book and series before this or you won’t understand certain references but the action can be enjoyed regardless of where you are in the series. This book doesn’t have as many references to previous books but they are there.
Chloe has definitely grown throughout this book. She is still a cluts and not very handy in a fight, but she is more willing to try. Her heartfelt attempts are still for others, but some of it begins to spark for herself and it’s wonderful to see her confidence strengthen. Quinn was a lot less enjoyable this book as his anger and prejudice take over his best qualities; but the slow burn between him and Chloe is a nice turn from the bleak mood of the novel. Faerie is dying from iron poisoning after the mortals have infiltrated it. It seems every direction they turn they are met with opposition and only by putting their heads together can they figure out a way to save Faerie.
The characters in this book are enjoyable to read even when they are being asshats. The scenes are detailed enough to envision it in your mind. The ending has me ready to see how things will progress with the next book.

I was super excited when this book finally came out, and I was not disappointed with this second book to the amazing adventure of Chloe and Quintus. Chloe has come a long way in the last book trying to save the faerie from humas. The detail in this book made me feel like I was in the book watching from the side lines. This book had a lot of emotions, from excitement, the anticipation, laughter, sad, angry and everything in between it made for an excellent well put together book, that I just could not put down. Highly recommend this book with the fantasy, adventure element to this book.

This is the second book in this series and it’s just as good! This book picks right up where book one left off which I enjoyed. There wasn’t any time passing or anything that put space between book one and this one. Because I read book one, I wasn’t lost at all but new readers might be. This book is just as well written and entertaining. The only thing is Chloe & Quintus’ romance isn’t dealt with as much as I would like. Other than that, this book is so good and I can’t wait for book 3.

This second book in the series starts right where the last one left off. Chloe and Quintus are trying to save Faerie from iron poisoning. Chloe starts out as just a mortal who freezes whenever she is scared and starts to learn how to deal with her feelings. Quintus is a fae who protects her and is now connected to her through their tattoos. The feelings between them are swirling! She can only do magic when she is touching Quintus and I love the addition of the dragon who she has a connection with and can control. Ludo and Mishti are also characters who are helping save the land from iron. Most of the book takes place in Crystal Thorn but the world building is so detailed and I learned so much about new lands. A fantastic read and I can’t wait for the next one in the series!

A good next installment that continues the path of Chloe and Quintus’ journey of protection and hardships as they keep the Faerie and human realms alive. With a fast paced race as our beloved characters fight to find what will be the saving graces of their worlds, they deal with the blooming relationship between them.

This contains many twists and turns and they try to find their way, and it’s clear that both Chloe and Quintus come into their own during this book. In the first installment we saw who they were and learned about them, but with this piece we truly see how they are and who they grow into.

A good read overall, enjoyed it very much.

Shadow & Crystal Thorns picks up right where book 1 left off. I really like this series and can’t wait for book 3! The author has created a beautiful world. I’ve read other Fae books and I thoroughly enjoy the world of Faerie the author has created.
We find ourselves back into Chloe’s nightmare. Trying to save the human realm from sickness and now battling the human’s in Faerie where she lost her foot. Quintus doing everything in his power to help her succeed. What was realized in book 1 was to save the human realm, Faerie needs to be healed. Unfortunately they need to rebuild.
Chloe and Quintus seem to feel differently. with her sister being the High Queen of the different places in Faerie Chloe would never go against her word. It doesn’t help that Chloe freezes up in fear whenever she’s in a high anxiety situation. Because of that nobody trusts her ideas. Claiming she doesn’t really want to help.
How could she do anything on her own?
Is she able to keep her lack of foot hidden from her sister?
Mishti’s influence on Chloe could lead her in the right/wrong direction. Right because they could succeed in the task of healing the land and stopping the humans. Wrong because she would be defying her sister.
Can Mishti be trusted?
What about Quintus and Chloe?
I don’t know why Chloe is so against giving him a chance. I get it she’s mortal and won’t live forever but he doesn’t care. He’d rather be with her, the development between these two takes us in both directions.
So many questions and so many answers. I’m not sure how much I should disclose that won’t cause spoilers. This story/series is wonderful. If you like books about Fae and are just coming across this book, please read book 1 first. If you’ve read book 1 it’s now time to continue into book 2.
If you’re like me and didn’t like how book 1 ended the author redeemed it but picked up where book 1 left off. So worth it! Again I’ll reiterate I can’t wait till book 3!

I began looking forward to reading this the moment I finished the first book, and all of my expectations I had were definitely exceeded! Picking up right where Flame and Crystal Thorns left off, the battle to save Faerie continues in this book, with Chloe and Quintus working side by side to save the world from iron poisoning.

This book shows a lot of character growth in Chloe, she becomes more aware of how she can help the land and also learns that there is nothing wrong with asking for help. She finds the perfect partner in Quintus, who works tirelessly beside her to help save them from the mortals. I also love all the things we discover about Quintus in the story.

If you’re still on the fence about reading this story, this might convince you: there is a dragon! This book has all the classic fantasy tropes, and the author has become a staple in my reading list due to her exquisite writing style! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

I fell in love with this series from the first chapter of the first book. I couldn’t wait until this one came out. My only complaint is that is was so good I finished it in one sitting. Now I feel lost. I cannot wait until part 3 comes out. I enjoyed this book so much that I headed over to Etsy and purchased a signed copy.

The thing I love lost about this book is that although it’s a work of fiction involving faeries and magic, it’s still relatable. The characters are developed so well. There’s growth, and depth which each one.

Chloe suffers from anxiety when it comes to fighting. She immediately freezes up. The first book kind of explains why this happens to her and why she lacks confidence in herself. But when her family and friends that she cares about is in danger she digs deep and finds strength, bravery, and love. She has such a large heart and is extremely clear headed in the face of danger.

My second favorite part is learning more about Quintus. I was completely shocked by his story and I hope we learn the reasons behind his parents choices and actions. Although he has a lot of growing to still do he made great strides in this chapter and hopefully Quintus and Chloe find away to be together.

Mishti is actually one of my favorite characters. I think her and Chloe’s relationship will evolve to an everlasting friendship. I really hope to get more focus on Mishti. Maybe they find a way to fix the affects of the white tablet? I want to know where she’s from, if she has family back home? How much time has passed?

I also hope we find out way Ludo is actually looking for and why he’s desperately trying to find it.

I have to go read Elena’s story as well I feel like it may give more understanding to Portia, Julian and the rest of the other mortals. I hope they find a permanent solution.

Please do yourself a favor and read this book. If you haven’t read the first book in the series do that first! It’s critical to understanding this one.

This is book 2 of the Fae and Crystal Thorns series. Hard to put down yet again! Chloe is in Faeire, trying to protect it from humans who are trying to poison the fae. She’s not sure if she wants to return to the mortal world, or stay with Quintus. I really enjoyed reading how Chloe and Quintus progress as characters. This is the second book in the series “Fae and Crystal Thorns”, and it is everything I hoped for mixed with twists and turns I did not expect! Chloe and Quintus, I enjoyed thoroughly, I loved how their relationship evolved and how it also affected how they were to other people as well. I loved Chloe’s character development the most, and Kay L. Moody did an excellent job at showcasing her journey throughout the book and why her personality as well as character traits were changing. For the most part of the book, everyone including Chloe and Quintus are trying to figure out how to beat the mortals and save Farie from iron poisoning. Not only will saving Faerie help the Fae, but it will also help the mortal realm where people, including Chloe’s sister, are feeling iron poisoning, but have no help of a cure. Lots of action, mystery, and some romance! Can’t wait to see what is in store for everyone in book three.

Shadow and Crystal Thorns (Fae and Crystal Thorns #2) by Kay L. Moody

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. Shadow and Crystal Thorns is the second book in the Fae and Crystal Thorns Series. This book is an amazing read and I really had a hard time putting it down. I was entrapped from the first sentence.

Chloe is mortal and back with her sister. Things aren’t going well for the land and she wants to figure it out. She and Quintus are bonded and she’s trying to find a way to break the bond. The quote I chose for Chloe is: “We can’t do nothing. We have to at least stop the mortals from attacking again and from destroying the land even more.”

Quintus is falling for Chloe and knows that she plans on going back to the mortal world. He’s hoping to change her mind about that. Will they be able to save the land? The quote I chose for Quintus is: “Perhaps a cushion is the wrong thing to craft. Maybe you need a device that can absorb your weight and move with your leg before your leg ever reaches the top of the wooden foot. A spring might work, or something like it.”

Highly recommended for Fae Fantasy lovers.

Chloe is back and continuing her journey to find a cure for the scurpus affecting both the Fae realm and the mortal realm, but danger is always around the corner and right at this moment, it is a mortal who is the cause, she is brandishing her weapons with murder in here eyes as she faces Chloe and Quintus. Chloe however, has a plan to diffuse the situation and she is hoping that it works, but she also knows that it could also go terribly wrong, this time though, it seems that luck is on their side and the danger passes for now. Chloe and Quintus have a lot of work ahead of them as they work together to think of a way to stop the mortals who have invaded the Fae realm but first they have to find out where they are camping so they can formulate a plan depending on the numbers of mortals they find.

As they move quietly around, the Kingdom of Crystal Thorns, they find a way to gain entry to the camp and try to listen in to the conversations to piece together what their plan is and therefore formulate a plan of their own to stop them, that is if Chloe can keep them safe. As usual the plans do not go well and they barely escape, but they do happen to hear enough from the mortal leaders to take back with them, but their other goal is not accomplished, they are however, still alive and that rush of adrenaline sends Chloe into Quintus’s arms. As they spend more time together they struggle to keep their feelings for each other under wraps and in control, especially when they have to stay in close proximity to the other most of the time, however, not everyone is happy about this.

As more details of why the mortals want the land the Fae live on, the reasoning makes sense to Chloe, but it doesn’t to Quintus and this causes a rift between the two, but while Chloe can understand the reasoning, the methods are barbaric to her, but who is in the right, the mortals or the Fae and can Chloe choose which side she is on and cure the affliction before time runs out? This is an action packed adventure where choices have to be made and loyalties have to be tested, as the race continues to be run in this rollercoaster of both emotions and actions.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book I have read by Kay L. Moody, the first being book one of the Fae & Crystal Thorns series. After finishing the first book I couldn’t wait for book two to finally come out. Chloe is having an internal struggle between what is right and wrong. And where she feels she belongs, she knows she should return to the mortal realm, finding someone to love her and have a family once was her greatest wish but now she wants to be selfish and stay in Faerie with Quintus.
Chloe’s realization in book one about sometimes having to be selfish to save others later, but it comes back to haunt her. Right away Mishti is there her sword drawn at Chloe and Quintus. Mishti is angry and hurt, she had just lost Mila a dear person to her and Chloe seemingly, through her eyes, abandoned her for a Fae. Only pointing her sword at Chloe does Quintus’s words break through her anger. She doesn’t know what to do. Everyone in Faerie was taken there against their will, she knows the land belongs to the Fae and that stealing it is wrong but why does anyone have to die for it. All Mishti wants is a chance to make her own decision for once, first she was manipulated by Ansel, and then Portia, fighting and killing was never what she loved doing but she did it to survive.
Mishti had been sent to the Crystal Caves to kill Chloe, but all Chloe wants to do is heal Mishti of her pain. With her pain gone Chloe feels Mishti will be able to communicate more reasonably. Unlike the first book that has a slower pace into the main events this book starts off right away continuing where the first book ended. Will Chloe be able to save Faerie and the mortals? Can they compromise a solution that everyone can survive in the end? To stay in Faerie or to return to the mortal realm? The world of Fae and Crystal Thorns pulls you in and hooks you from beginning to end I can’t wait for book three Blade and Crystal Thorns coming March 21st, 2023.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have ever read by Kay L. Moody. I was first drawn in by the cover and the name of the series, the synopsis was interesting, so I gave it a chance and started reading. Chloe is a human girl that for years she had lived in a Faerie world. The loss of her parents forced her and her younger sister Grace to move to the mortal realm with their older brother Vesper and his family.
In a time where women were not considered equal to men Chloe had gotten lucky when the previous towns apothecary passed away, no one else wanted the job so she took it. She was now 18 and had been back in the mortal realm for 3 years, she has been the town apothecary for one year and was determined to be as selfless as possible to relief her ill placed guilt on herself for something that happened when she was eleven. Suddenly a Fae illness was showing in her mortal town, determined to save everyone in her town that was suffering including Grace. Quintus is a Fae; someone Chloe has longed for but knows that she can’t be with him because not all Fae want to learn how to love. He needs her help in Faerie when a group of mortals that her older sister had rescued turn against the Fae, determined to kill them all. Loyal to the people of her town Chloe refuses to leave before she has successfully cured everyone, until she drowns, and Quintus saves her the only way he can. Waking up she is now in Faerie at first, she is angry until she learns that the illness plaguing her town is directly from Faerie. The two realms are linked together, and the iron poisoning Faerie is leaking into the mortal realm. To save her town and her sister she must save Faerie first. Along her journey Chloe and Quintus grow closer giving her a flash of hope before she pushes it down and out of her mind. She has been giving so much of herself to the town never taking a moment for her own needs that she feels she is withering away, empty and gasping for air.
Will Chloe learn to put herself first in order later save those around her or will she continue to drown in the selflessness she has been told is her only quality or importance? The author’s world is breathtaking, her characters both relatable and easy to love. Chloe and Quintus have a mutual love for each other makes your heart flutter with butterflies the purity of their growth is genuine and relatable. This book is a clean underlying romance and some of the sweetest things I have read between two characters. I cannot wait for book two Shadow and Crystal Thorns to see where their journey will take them next.

This is the 2nd book in the Fae and Crystal Thorn series. And wow. It picks up right at the end of the first book and carries on the fantasy adventure where Chloe and Quintus are trying to save the land of Faerie from the mortals. This story is packed with adventure and a theme which runs through everyone’s life really. When 2 sides are at war is there ever really a right or wrong side? This is the battle that Chloe is fighting with inside herself. She needs to save Faerie to save her life in the mortal realm. That was her plan, however things start to take a turn and she questions everything as her feelings for Quintus grows and he asks her to stay.

Can they save Faerie? Will Chloe give in to her feelings and stay with Quintus or will she return to the mortal realm to her family.
There are so many obstacles that Chloe must overcome before making her decision and the author does an amazing job with the world building making each magical being feel real and keeping the reader wanting more

Shadow and Crystal Thorns is the second book in the Fae and Crystal Thorns series by Kay L. Moody. As we discovered in Book #1, this series is a spellbinding spin-off from the ‘Fae of Bitter Thorn’ series (Chloe, our mc here is Elora’s (from FoBT series) sister.
This is such a fabulous YA fantasy with plenty of adventure, action, magic, danger, self-discovery, romance, politics, agendas, conflict, a battle for Fae Courts, sacrifice, hope, friendship, tension, intrigue, and high stakes. Oh, and did I mention Fae…. AND a Dragon?!?!?. Um…. If I didn’t already love Ms. Moody’s books, and this series- that element alone would have sealed the deal for me.
The story continues form Book #1, so if you haven’t read Flame & Crystal Thorns yet I highly recommend that you do before starting on this instalment- as knowing what happened previously will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book as a lot has happened- so you’ll find that first book holds a lot of important information you will want to know leading into book #2.
Shadow and Crystal Thorns finishes on somewhat of a cliffhanger, and the adventure is set to continue, so I can’t wait to get my hands on ‘Blade & Crystal Thorns (Book #3)- I am really excited to find that there are at least 2 more books planned to come after that…. Colour me excited to see where we go from here!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Kay L. Moody!

Shadow and Crystal Thorns (Fae and Crystal Thorns Book 2) by Kay L. Moody – Review by Amanda Haller-Doris

Shadow and Crystal Thorns (Fae and Crystal Thorns, #2)Shadow and Crystal Thorns by Kay L. Moody
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off and you are immediately pulled back into Faerie with Chloe and into the deadly adventure. We get to see Chloe and Quintus grow and develop as they fight together to save Faerie from the mortals bent on destroying the Fae. I loved the ebb and flow of the adventure mixed with the relationship building and found it the perfect mix. It was wonderful getting to see Chloe coming into her own and realizing that you don’t have to be a warrior to win wars. She ends up leading her small team of Quintus, Mishti, and Ludo to a plan to save Faerie. She even manages to get a very sweet giant pet dragon. This was a fantastic follow up to book 1 and I can’t wait for the third book to come out next year. If you love fantasy with a ton of adventure and heart, this is the series for you.

Shadow and Crystal Thorns (Fae and Crystal Thorns Book 2) by Kay L. Moody – Review by Desiree Ottinger

Shadow and Crystal Thorns (Fae and Crystal Thorns, #2)Shadow and Crystal Thorns by Kay L. Moody
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Chloe is still in Faerie working on how to defeat the mortals and heal the land of Faerie. She and Quintus find common ground with Mishti to help rescue Ludo. After they become an unlikely team, they hurry to find a way to stop the mortals’ advance on the courts of Faerie. Unfortunately, they end up finding themselves in a race to find elements to reverse the destruction the iron is causing on Faerie and, in turn, the mortal realm. Chloe struggles with telling her sister about her loss and confronting her on how she makes Chloe feel useless. Can she accept the truth of her loss and how it will forever change her life? Can she put together the antidote for Faerie and save it and also her sisters? Will her sister and others ever see her as more than someone to be protected?

I liked the continuation of this storyline. It was good to see the characters struggle with their decisions and how they had to reconcile them with themselves. I liked how Mishti points out to Chloe that maybe the battle they are facing isn’t her sister’s story but Chloe’s. It gives hope to people with disabilities to see that they are not worthless. Just because they cannot swing the proverbial sword, does not mean they can’t help in other ways like strategy. It was also good to see the characters that can swing that same sword come to terms with the fact that they do not always have the answers either. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in this series!
