Glass Houses by Sinister Styx

This very short, quick read is packed full of character development and immersive story telling. It takes a great author to accomplish these things within a mere 28 pages, but Sinister Styx doesn’t miss a beat! There are many elements packed into this book: deceit, revenge, murder, and a curse (to name a few). And the ending had me surprised and wishing the story didn’t have to end. I could see this being a full-length novel filled with even more drama. That is my only “negative” about Glass Houses, that I wish it had been longer. Can’t wait to read more by this author!
Wild King by K.M. Scott

Wild King is the second book in the King Brothers series and what an addition it was. A second chance, enemies to lovers, well written romance. I enjoyed this one as much as book number one. We are introduced to another King brother, Kellen. After a hot, wild, weekend with no names exchanged he ups and leaves when he is called back to work to deal with an issue. He seems to be just as surly as Matthias, who in fact hires Salem, and has apparently built up a bad reputation which our FMC, Salem, is hoping to fix. Will her tough girl, no holds barred personality make a difference to Kellen’s bad boy reputation? Well read on and see. Looking forward to the next King brothers book.

No One Could See the Flea is a funny story of how quickly things can get out of control when kids assume things. While they were all trying to be helpful and solve the problem, they didn’t have the proper knowledge and never got an adult involved to assist. Poor Shank was doused with so many stinky and messy home remedies from all the neighborhood kids. My 8 year old son and I were giggling throughout. The illustrations are adorable and help the story along. That poor dog though!

Another well done Sci fi romance to add to your library!
Moira is concerned when her free spirited twin sister yet again falls off the radar while in the mountain town of Allenville but Moira has a gut feeling this time feels different so she heads there to find her.
On her arrival this town looks like a normal small mountain town but something feels different and she can’t put her finger on it. She meets the police chief Seth who she also finds gorgeous but evasive and she knows he’s hiding something, but their chemistry is undeniable.
She continues searching while Seth is keeping a secret and protecting two sides of very different species and trying to keep the peace. As secrets unfold and mutilated bodies show up what will Moira find and can her interest and easy friendship with Seth survive as she learns the truth. Will she find her sister or was she too late? And what on earth (or perhaps not of earth!) Is going on in this town.
The multi pov of this story really gives it depth and I encourage any Sci fi lover to check this one out!

First off, this story was not what I assumed it would be about. But, Glass Houses still blew me away. The author did an amazing job packing so much feeling and umph into such a short story. I highly agree with the trigger warning, and was glad that it was short, because it probably would have been too much for me if it was a full length book. I have read other books by this author, under another pen name and loved them, so I definitely wanted to give this one a try. There was a reveal at the end that I didn’t see coming, but it fit perfect. Ivy and Falcon have an intense relationship, and when their trust in each other gets a crack, it spreads until their lives shatter. Highly recommend if you can get beyond the triggers- The author packed so much into so few pages. I look forward to seeing more from her.

This is the third book (novella) in The Predator Series, and they just keep getting better and better!
This novella follows Beth, her time to shine in the ring, and her decision as to whether or not she should let Scott near the walls she’s worked so hard to build around herself.
You definitely need to read the previous books to know who the characters are and what they are going through in order to get a complete picture of what’s happening. You don’t want to miss out on this series! (4 books in total) So, I recommend you start with “The Predator: Part One” and go from there!
You won’t regret it!!

The End Of Try Try Again by Kristen Carter, MS. As someone who has struggled their entire 54 years with weight I jumped at the chance to read this self help book. I have tried every fad diet known to man from grapefruit diet to cabbage soup diet. I’ve been on a diet where I went to meetings and I’ve bought food that didn’t work and just like all fads they stop working when you stop working. I’ve spent countless dollars and cried numerous tears so I was excited to get to read this book. Its from a Dr that has been in the industry for over 30 years she is delving into the Psychological aspect of weight loss. We all want that miracle pill or that quick fix but in reality it is hard work, determination and setting your motivation in the right way. This book is full of tips and ideas that really hit with me and I am truly going to try it. I’m now diabetic and am told its going to be really hard for you to lose the weight at your age but I’ve got to not let that get in my head. The step by step process in this book is doable and I plan on trying it. It helps us see why we choose what foods we choose and why we work out or don’t. I’ve got a grandbaby coming in September so I’ve got to be healthy for him so I’m going to give these steps a try! Great motivating self help book!

The Queen’s Dance is Book 2 in the Heart & Hand Series and I love how the Nicole tells this story of fantasy romance, adventure and magic and mix in just the connection and angst I feel with the characters. Overall this is a enjoyable story and although this story could be read as a stand-alone, I do recommend reading this series from the beginning. With this story of Trian and Claire really gave my heart a roller-coaster of emotions. Claire is strong and put to the test while guarding her heart. What she did not forsee if to fall in love…with Trian. When trouble arises, will Claire be able to overcome all obstacles…
I really enjoyed this story and I do highly recommend picking up this book. Wonderful fantasy romance…..I cannot wait to read book 3.

For those struggling to find consistency in your weight loss this is a book to pick up. Gets straight to the heart of the matter for us that struggle with starting over and over again and not finding a healthy rhythm to weight loss. I thought this was a well paced read that gave me some insight on how to navigate the traps I fall into.

This was a very insightful read about approaching weight loss. I have tried several different diets and exercise regimens over the past decade and a half with little to no results. Anytime I did see changes, none of them were solid and didn’t last long. From the very beginning of this book, I knew I had done myself a favor by picking it up. Instead of just throwing random diet fads and intensive exercises in your face, this author digs into the psychological factors. The narrative is changed by focusing on the why, the how, and how you treat yourself. I truly appreciate the simplicity and the sheer ingenuity of this book. If you are looking for a new perspective on health and weight loss, this should be the next book you pick up! I highly recommend giving this a read.

This is not my usual read, but I enjoyed the collection of short works. It’s always a gamble when you pick up a collection like this, so it’s a treat when it turns out to be good.
There are thirteen stories included, but three that intrigued me were: On the Face of It by Danielle Ackley-McPhail, Lighthouse at the Edge of Time by Teel James Glenn, and Accelerando by James Chambers.
If you enjoy stories with Lovecraftian vibes and steampunk elements, pick up this collection today.
Love Rinkside by G.K. Brady

I have read a couple books from The Playmakers series and loved them, so I picked this up immediately! This author has such an amazing way of drawing you in and never letting go until long after the end of the book. It’s a pretty quick read but it doesn’t feel like anything is missing, which is an incredible feat. This wonderful sports romance has a sublime combination of sweet, spicy, and sassy. I laughed out loud several times throughout this book! Katie and Drew are amazing characters who are very well-developed. Their chemistry is top notch and believable. I highly recommend picking this up if you’re in need of some laughs, spice, and romance. I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next!

This book was so adorable. It teaches kids how dogs can get fleas, how to bathe them an look for fleas. It also teaches kids and adults how to get rid of fleas. The illustrations are amazing and keeps kids attention.

Falling for a Star in the City is the second book in the Stars in the City series by Krysten Lindsay Hagar. I really enjoyed the first book in this series so was really looking forward to this one. This story follows the story of actress Paige and hockey player Viktor. Paige is an aspiring soap star until her co-worker’s indiscretion ruins her chances at a leading role, then after a sudden break up her ex-boyfriend, a struggling musician is not so struggling anymore, Paige’s whole life has changed. She finds herself thrown into her back-up plan of journalism and confused about who or what she actually wants in her future. I liked this book, I enjoy a good romance and this book I really liked how the author wrote the characters. I would recommend this book to all romance lovers. Looking forward to book 3.
Blood & Ravens by A.D. Brazeau

Blood and Ravens by A.D. Brazeau is book one to The Casket Girls series. I honestly believe this is one of the best paranormal stories I have read in a long time and absolutely loved essentially everything about it. All the characters were all well-developed. I particularly loved Greer and Theron and their forbidden love as Theron is trying to please Hades but cannot help what he is feeling for his “little rabbit”. Plenty of other paranormal aspects add lots of depth to this story. The gothic setting also gave me a certain aesthetic that I can never get enough of. The author’s writing was exceptional and kept me engaged and the pages turning from beginning to end. I was overtaken by intrigue from the very first page, and it didn’t stop even after the story ended. I am definitely hoping for more to come!

I loved this little story about Joe. Illustrations were cute and so was Joe as a character. He’s starting school and thinks he is going to learn how to read! But as the day goes on he becomes confused that he hasn’t been taught yet. He decides to wander through town to find the “correct” place so he can learn. Joe finds out that reading takes a lot of time and he can’t learn it all in one day.

This was a cute story about a boy and his dog and a lesson in assuming. The dog scratched and his boy automatically assumed he had a flea so he started doing all sorts of things to get it to go away, even though he couldn’t actually find a flea. Eventually after getting all the neighborhood kids involved, the dog has had enough and he hides. The boy finally gives up and takes him to the vet who confirms there was no flea the whole time. Loved the illustrations and think it’s a great read for kids with a great lesson.

The End of Try Try Again: Overcome Your Weight Loss and Exercise Struggles for Good is a self-help book designed to help you overcome your battle of the bulge once and for all. The author has been working in the fitness and nutrition industry for over 30 years and has taken the time to write about what tools it takes to help us lead healthier lives. With so many fitness fads and diets out there it can become overwhelming to anyone who is struggling to lose weight or find something that will work for their own personal needs. Personally, I know it’s been an ongoing struggle for me as far back as I can remember to find something that works to keep the weight off. The convenience of processed foods and fast foods combined with a busy lifestyle has made it increasingly more difficult to get healthy and has added to more weight gain. As I got older, the weight became harder to lose, and I feel more defeated. I know that when I want to lose weight, I expect the pounds to come off overnight, which obviously is obviously unrealistic. There is no magic pill that will help the pounds instantly melt off. This book helped me to understand that the combination of numerous factors around me impact my thinking. It is about more than just exercising, more than choosing the correct foods to eat, and about more than sheer willpower. This book gives the tools to explain why it is so much more than that and offers a step-by-step process which enables you to take the steps necessary to improve your over all well being. This was a very insightful read with a lot of tips and pointers that really got me thinking about a new way to approach my health and wellness journey.

This is book 10 in The Playmakers series. This is a contemporary romance which I loved. There was fun, laughter, romance, loads of chemistry and finding love when you don’t want it or expect it.
Even though this is part of a series these books can be read as a standalone as it focuses on a different couple although there are references of characters in other books.
In this book we meet Drew and Katie.
Drew and Katie meet at a fancy dress Halloween party. Neither of them is looking for romance Drew is busy focusing on his career and Katie is going through a man hating phase.
But when they meet they can’t deny the chemistry between them.
As they start to spend more time together, their not wanting a relationship turns into a relationship being something they both want. However that journey won’t be straight forward and the couple will need to go through some ups and downs before they get their happy ever after.
I loved this story. It was a really sweet romance and the humour and banter between Drew and Katie really brought this story to life for me.

Really cute fantasy romance. From the cover and title I thought it would be a red riding hood retelling but it wasn’t. It was a better story. A story of mate bonds, extreme love, and loss. It was full of action and flowed well.
Murder the Tey Way by Marilyn Levinson

Murder the Tey Way is the second book of the Golden Age of Mystery Bookclub series. The book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone story. I enjoyed the first book in the series as it focused on Agatha Christie’s stories. This book uses the works of Josephine Tey as the backdrop of a new mystery for Lexie to solve. Though there are some backstories involved the author quickly gets the reader up to date (in case they missed book 1 in the series) and some new characters. Lexie’s book club has had an interesting past with murder amongst the members and this brings a new murder to the forefront. Unfortunately, Gayle (Lexie’s sister) looks to be the prime suspect. Will Lexie find out the truth in time?
The writing is done well incorporating the books the group is reading into their own murder mystery. It is a light cozy mystery read. I enjoy the characters, the plot, and this book has renewed my interest in Josephine Tey’s writing. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Blood and Ravens: A dark, paranormal romance by A.D. Brazeau

This book is different from what I normally read, I usually just go for the paranormal but thought to switch it up a bit and I couldn’t be happier in doing so. This book was incredible. The story and conflicts and just everything in it kept me on my seat and wanting to read it more. This book really took on a classic and made it into a new way to look at the paranormal. The story flowed so well together that it never made me feel lost and had to turn back again. I really enjoyed the characters but especially Greer she is strong and could sense things and see things that no one else could. I really can’t wait to know if there will be more to this story and what more it could offer.

This book had my attention right from the first word to the last word in the book. This book really gave me the feelings of being in the book, it was so detailed I was like a fly on the wall. The world was well thought out and felt like you were living right along with everything happening, it was unique in its own way. the characters are so well developed that I even felt like I know them a little bit on a personal level. The book starts off with foreshadowing and it was captivating that this book gripped me and held me till the end. It’s a fantasy world with monsters and adventure, romance, and so many twists and turns that I was wondering if Selene could get, thou it all. I can’t wait to read more into this series.

What a fascinating story! I was so hooked on this from the start. I did see similarities to Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast. What made it better is that its a darker, cooler story. I loved the characters and how much more of an adventure there was. Gillian just wants to save her brother. She can’t help it if there’s a hot, dragon to fall for. The writing was very well-done. It kept me engaged through the whole story. I want some more of these stories.
