Straight for the Kill is the third installment in the Benoit & Dayne Mystery series. Although Straight for the Kill is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone with no confusion. Winter Austin writes deadly romantic thrillers that will not disappoint. Full of suspenseful twists and turns Austin has you sitting on the edge of your seat the entire book. Just when you thought you had the mystery figured out she throws another wrench in the plot. I am a “judge a book by the cover” kind of gal and the cover drew me in on this one but I was sold after the first few chapters. The plot was seamless, moving from scene to scene, keeping the reader engaged. I won’t hesitate in the near future to pick up another mystery written by Winter Austin.

This story follows Lovely Jo, a fugitive on the run for a murder everyone is accusing her of and Dusty Bowles, a man who might be her only salvation in a town that wants to see her tried for something she swears she didn’t commit. The two seem unlikely seeing as how she’s nothing but a servant and he’s a poor widow who has a few issues. But things change when the person you’ve been pining for is finally within reach. Dusty can’t help but want her to be his and Lovely Jo wants nothing more than him but its hard to start a love story when there’s a warrant out for the woman Dusty is enamored with. Can they figure out who actually did it before he has to take her away from Clear Creek County and watch her leave him or worse someone finds her and claims the bounty on her head?

This book in the Antipodes series is different from the others as the min focus is not Cam and Freja like the previous books, however this by no means affected to quality of the author’s work. The story focuses on other characters who inhabit the same world – Caitlin and Seraphine. They are given a purpose however they are unhappy with the life that has been laid out for them so leave on their own adventure. The way this was written, much like the author’s previous books, is great. The writing flows so well and makes the world they have created more accessible and easier to navigate. I was a little apprehensive that given my love for the characters in the previous books, I may find it difficult to relate and connect with the new characters in the same way, but I needn’t have worried. As usual the author delivered complex and compelling characters that you can’t help but get emotionally invested in. Caitlin and Seraphine have a great dynamic and unfortunately experience their share of turmoil when they are forced to make difficult decisions which affect not only them, but the people they love. This doesn’t stop their personalities from shining through, making you fall in love with them. I am so glad I gave this series a chance and will certainly keep my eye on this talented author for more!

This is the fifth book in the Antipodes series, and it’s been a joy witnessing the character development and world building expand throughout the series. Cam and Freja must once again come together, but this time it’s a little different. Their children are in danger, and they must work together to protect them despite their issues with each other. Given the previous books, I didn’t see this storyline coming, but it was so good! As usual, this is an emotional journey for the characters as well as the reader as we are drawn into their lives, but well worth the emotional torment to see how it ends. I was again able to step into the story and picture myself there alongside the characters with the descriptive language used and the easy-to-follow writing style the author has makes the experience even more enjoyable. The character’s emotions in this book felt that much more vivid and the turmoil they feel is heart-breaking. The progression in Cam and Freja’s relationship though left me hopeful and loving the two of them all the more!
The author is very talented in both their style of writing and their ability to create an ongoing narrative which constantly leaves you guessing. I will certainly be looking out for more books by this author moving forward.

I have read every single one of the Green Brotherhood so far and each one is amazing in their own way. I do want to mention that this book most definitely would work as a standalone if you have not read the others. However, I will say that this book exceeded my expectations and is by far and away my favorite thus far. Reed and Christie are amazing characters and their love story is almost fated. I loved their chemistry and how Reed is take charge and took care of Christie from the beginning, even before he knew her. I also loved how he wanted to take Christies fears and nurture her so that she would become less afraid. This was evidenced in their first date – and I have to say I absolutely loved that date. Debra left nothing to the imagination, it was so easy to imagine how both of them reacted as their date went on and how Reed worked to ease Christie’s fears. I really was rooting for them from the start. I also loved how Christie was a flawed character who was nervous to date again. I read this book in less than a day and I definitely recommend it for a feel good love story.

Another great book in the series, I’m not sure I’ll ever get bored of this author’s ability to surprise me and it keeps me hooked start to finish every time! We once again join Cam and Freja in an impressively descriptive world which you can step into as you join the pair on their adventures. Things appear to be going well when a shocking development leads to yet another adventure in search of answers. There’s little I can say that I haven’t said after reading the previous books but wow. The world building as always is amazing and the characters are lovable and relatable, despite the hardships they face. I’ve been emotionally invested in Cam’s story since the first page of book one, and this has only increased as the books progress. Their new journey leads to shocking answers and plot twists which leave you wanting to reach out and comfort the characters and yet you find yourself needing more which is why I am so happy there’s another book for me to dive into! I need to know what is next for Cam and Freja and their relationship!

It’s a fairly simple read but full of ideas, advice, as well as struggles and challenges one might face during the process of writing and/or publishing a work of art. It’s a showcase of the good, bad, and ugly for lack of a better explanation!
If you write at all, you are a writer. These tips could potentially benefit someone who is writing a dissertation for class, someone looking to improve their writing skills, or someone looking to write a book. The snippets from the authors are generally short, but full of motivation.
The authors cover all aspects of writing from getting started, to marketing, editing, and so many other areas. One of my personal favorite lines was “write one sentence a day” and your work will grow from there. Just get started!!

Master Calabrea is Book 6 in the Masters of the Consulate series. Master Calabrea is a vampire with the Consulate who has been given the task of hunting down Isala, an enemy of the vampire community. Embry’s cousin, Tansia, has come for a visit and to help her out. Tansia’s arrival has an unexpected effect on Calabrea, who acts indifferent to her but feels the opposite. He has no time nor need for a mate, let alone a human one so he chooses to ignore his feelings. Tansia has no luck at all with relationships and has a terrible track record, so she has no desire to try again, especially with a vampire who clearly hates her.
Time is running out to capture Isala, so Tansia and Calabrea are teamed up and told to remain together at all times. Tansia feels this is an impossible task because Calabrea cannot stand her. She could not be more wrong. Tansia has an unexplained effect on Calabrea, and this sets a chain of events into motion between Tansia and Calabrea that neither expected.
This book could possibly be read as a standalone, but it is probably better to read the series from the beginning. Sadly, I have not read the first books in the series so I feel as though I may have missed something. This book was fast paced from the beginning with wonderful characters and a great storyline. The attraction between Calabrea and Tansia is sizzling and undeniable. The hunt for Isala is fraught with tension and danger as they try to capture her before time runs out. I enjoyed this book and know that I will be reading this series from the beginning.

I was glued to this book as I learned all about Sam, her journey to LA, and her harrowing escape back home. If you like thrillers with a lot of twists, then this is the book for you.

Another great read – the third book in this series is just as good as the first two. We once again encounter Cam on his journey to seek answers. We also find ourselves with Freja again and how the two navigate this dynamic was interesting to see given their past. This was made more difficult for them by the addition of new challenges and threats to their way of life. The way the author is able to portray the complex emotions contained within is amazing. Everything is balanced so well – the intriguing plot and the character developments work so well together to create an emotional and gripping story. Once again Cam takes the prize as my favourite. His misfortunes have obviously affected him as they would anyone, but his journey is not over as he continues his search for answers. With the author’s descriptive writing you feel as though you’re right there with Cam as he feels his pain and understanding that things are not easy for him, even as things start to become a little clearer. I love the way that the books follow on from each other so well. I was a little concerned that the story may begin to go stale, but the author keeps managing to surprise me in the best ways!

The first meetings are always important, and this one was already spicy between them. The way the relationship between them started and bloomed in this book was fun to read. * Happy Squeak!!! * I completely and thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is where I insert a giddy clapping meme. There are so many great things to love about this book. I absolutely adore how the three met and became friends, continuing that friendship for years. The wholesome connection where Cole and Charlie were big brothers to Maddie when she needed that. The tender friendship that was always there. The something more it all became.
Maddie, even at a young age, knew something was missing from her life. One night she dreamed of two boys, Cole and Charlie. Through the years, they continued to meet in their dreams, aging and growing up together, being the best of friends. Maddie didn’t understand why them or their friendship couldn’t be real. When Maddie voices her doubt about them, Cole jumps into action, bringing the three friends together. When Charlie and Maddie discover how real they are, they are free to explore the love that has developed over time. As a throuple, they face a looming darkness that threatens to tear Maddie away from them.
The joint steamy scenes were some of the classiest I have read. Beautiful, careful, sensually written, they evoke all the right feelings. I also love how the friends and family of the throuple handled adjusting to their announcement. Classy!!! Looking forward to book two!!

Cam’s story continues in this second book of the Antipodes series. Again, I’m so glad I gave this genre a chance, I would have missed out on this amazing series if I hadn’t. This book we once again follow Cam’s life post-outbreak. He’s now married and working hard within his new community but once again goes on an emotional journey to find someone he loves. In this book Cam remains relatable, his reactions and emotions are believable as his adventure continues, and his reality becomes uncertain once again. He remains my favourite character, his development only goes to improve him and adds to the story tenfold. Despite the storyline appearing to be quite similar to the first, it’s entirely different in its own way so it isn’t repetitive or boring. Just as with the first book, I was engrossed from beginning to end and a contributing factor to this is the fact that the author writes so well. The descriptive world building and the easy to follow writing style make the emotional journey we take with Cam as he begins to question what he knows, that much more enjoyable. I’m sure the next book in the series will be just as good.

This is an exciting MM romance set in the Wild West which kept me hooked throughout. Fenimore James is a rather naive dreamer when he runs away from home and goes west in order to become a famous outlaw, known as Simon Shaw. However, his imagined life full of glamorous robberies never materialises, and instead he finds himself joining the notorious Red Evans gang. He quickly finds himself in the middle of a strange and bloody game when gang members start being murdered by a mysterious pursuer, who then leaves cryptic signs scarifying their bodies. Things become more dangerous when the gang boss becomes paranoid and suspects one of his own men is the murderer. Meanwhile, Simon begins questioning his own sexuality, when he finds himself falling for a fellow male gang member. Complicating Simon’s life further are his dreams which are plagued by a bizarre dream figure, the Man In Black. This is a gripping mystery thriller with plenty of drama, suspense and violence, but also a developing MM romance. The characters and setting are brought to life by the descriptive narrative and the added historical details transported me to the Wild West.

There’s something about the way the author writes that even when nothing has happened yet, they still have you gripped and wanting more. I loved their writing style, it was descriptive whilst also feeling smooth and easy to follow. I admit I was initially apprehensive as this isn’t my usual go to genre, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance! I really liked the character of Cam; he was relatable from the offset. He was believable in how he overcame the struggles in the transition from his old life to his new one in a post-outbreak community. As is so often the case, just when things start to improve, something awful happens – his partner Freja goes missing. Cam sets off to look for Freja and going on his journey with him as he made connections to new people was heart-warming as he ventured out to find her but the choices he had to make, and the strength shown in his character development was emotional at times. Much to my surprise (and delight), I found myself engrossed from start to finish, not just because of the great characters but also because of the world building produced by the author. I was able to picture myself in the world right beside the characters, travelling along with Cam as he searches for Freja. I am so glad I gave this book a chance and have the rest of the series to look forward to!

It was the killer gene aspect of this book that drew me to it as I love seeing the way psychology is used in thrillers, and I was not disappointed. The aspects of nature vs nurture were intriguing, but it was ultimately the way the characters were written which made the book for me. The ways the characters viewed the world and how the events in their lives shaped them was extreme at times but the fact the author chose to delve into the darker decisions and aspects fascinated me and I was hooked from the first chapter. The descriptions and the emotions created an intense need to know what they’d do next. I enjoyed how Troy was written, as although I was at times wanting to shout to him that he was making the wrong decisions, his ‘descent into madness’ was expressed very well and shown through his irrational responses. Veronica is also an interesting character. She’s determined and hopeful to make things work. Some of her decisions irked me given her pregnancy however I can see why she was written as she was, and she does bring the nature vs nurture element I enjoyed. I enjoyed this dark psychological thriller and would certainly read it again.

Every time I pick up a book by this author I think there is no possible way she could ever top the last one I read. And yet each time she seems to do just that. This book was absolutely incredible and the best possible way to kick start this new series. I am so pleased we are getting even more books to add to this collection and I already know they rest will be hard pushed to beat this one for me. The chemistry and connection between the characters was amazing. It was evident on every single page and I was drawn to it straight away. And it wasn’t just the characters that was so good, the story was equally as fantastic. The combination of the two have made this book a strong contender for favourite of the year already! I would urge everyone to pick up this book today.

Grace is an Artisan Cheese Maker who is determined to become the fifth generation to live on her family farm. She wants to do it alone because she trusts nobody to help her and is used to relying on herself and doing things on her own. After having recently lost her closest friend to suicide and watching her father get swindled out of land it is important for Grace to keep the family farm going to pass down to farther generations. When she learns that her mom has declining health, she is racing against the clock to come up with money to buy her parents out.
When the bank makes it difficult for her to come up with the money Grace considers selling part of the land to her neighbor Ryan. Ryan’s brother has recently committed suicide and he blames himself for his brother’s death. After years away from his family’s farm, he has only returned with the intention to sell the farm. Ryan finds himself not wanting to become attached to anyone or anything. His only passion in life is to buy a property, flip it, and move on. He surprises himself when he offers to help Grace after someone sabotage’s her purchase. Grace and Ryan both get more out of the deal than they originally bargained for.
Grace and Ryan have undeniable chemistry going on between them but first they both must learn to open their hearts and trust again. Both are headstrong, determined, and used to being independent so learning to lean on each other for help does not come easily. Grace has to first realize that asking for help does not make her a failure and Ryan needs to take down the walls around his heart. Together, they make an amazing couple, and I enjoyed watching their relationship unfold. A great read!

Echoing Hearts is a wonderful modern romance. This story is of love, friendship, trust and heartbreak, is very relatable. The characters are beautifully written and the banter between Rae and Dean is perfect. These two who come from different back rounds are more alike than they’d admit. Their story was a page-turner from beginning to end.

Ella’s sister, Chrissy, has recently died and Ella has been left to raise her young niece on her own. Ella loves Tessa as her own child and has helped to raise her since she was a baby because Chrissy was too sick to care for her on her own. Ella is still coming to terms with the death of her sister when she receives a letter summoning her to Taylor law to discuss paternity and custody of Tessa. Ella is in shock over the letter and is scared to death of losing Tessa.
When Ella arrives at the law office of Jacob Taylor, she is expecting to meet him alone but instead finds him sitting with an older gentleman. It turns out the older man is the father to the man Chrissy has stated was Tessa’s father, Drew Browning. Ella is shocked when news is revealed to her of a letter that her sister Chrissy was supposed to have written to Drew prior to her death. It seems that her sister had some secrets that she kept well hidden from Ella.
Jake has the best interests of his aunt and uncle at heart and thinks that Ella is trying to con them by saying his cousin, Drew, is Tessa’s biological father. Before they have even determined that Tessa is their granddaughter the Browning’s develop an attachment to the young girl and this concerns Jake. He thinks that Ella is lying and will do everything in his power to protect them from getting hurt and conned. Drew only wants to exploit his relationship with Tessa for his own selfish gain. As secrets are revealed and things ensue Ella and Jake are on opposite sides of a custody battle for Tessa. Both Ella and Jake want to protect Tessa but that becomes complicated by their undeniable attraction to one another.
This book had an overwhelming theme of the love of a family and never giving up. Ella loves her niece as her own child and will do anything to protect her. Jake loves his aunt and uncle and will do anything to keep them from getting hurt. Both Ella and Jake want what is best for young Tessa but Jake is conflicted between the love of his family and the love of a woman. Will he be able to make the right decision? There was a rollercoaster ride of emotions throughout as the story unfolded and secrets are revealed. I highly recommend!

3.5 stars Exposed is the final instalment of the YA Descendant series. There are witches, magic, mystery, suspense, drama, betrayal and adventure and other worlds. This paranormal urban fantasy will have the pages turning just to find out what happens. Amy is still reeling from having her life up ended. She now knows that there is more to the things that go bump in the night. Her life will never be the same. It seems that to get what she wants she must make a deal with the enemy. Lea has written an interesting tale that is extremely fast paced and that YA’s will love. Will she be able to save herself and others without losing her soul or her mind?

Emissary is a standalone novel read as a prequel or companion story to the Star-Crossed Celestials Duet. It is a forbidden romance paranormal tale. In a perilous dark world where angels and demons are pitted against each other it is forbidden to fall in love with the enemy. Kai is an Emissary of Death and knows what’s at stake but for the first time in his existence he finds something that changes his mind. Byron is a demon so just by birth means he is the enemy even though he isn’t like the others. His job is to fight against angels but when he finds one he can’t go up against what will he do? This a must for supernatural lovers. It is a MM love story that is sexy along with plenty of rough action, a bounty full of danger, and a little slow burn steam.
This the second book in the Green Brotherhood: SEAL Team XII series. I have loved these stories and thus was was no different. It is a military romance so it is full of danger and action as well as having a romance that is passionate and captivating. I love how the protectiveness of Reed spills over not only in his professional life but also around the woman he cares about. Their meeting was dangerous and unexpected but you could feel the attraction straight away between them. Reed is definately a movie action hero in real life. I can’t wait to see if other members of the Green Brotherhood find their HEAs.

Maddie is desperately in love with Charlie and Cole but knows that they are only a part of a fantasy that occurs in her dreams. Even if they were real, they can never be together because she could never choose between them.
Charlie and Cole have been meeting up with Maddie at different locales in her dreams since they were twelve years old. They have had mindless relationships with other women over the years, but none compared to Maddie. Both men are hopelessly head over heels in love with Maddie but fear losing her if she only chooses one of them. Rather than risk losing her altogether they secretly love her from within their dreams.
When Maddie starts having a recurring nightmare and the men find out they fear for Maddie’s safety. Charlie and Cole need to save her but do not know if she is even real. Cole knows that he himself is real and after learning from a psychic that the three of them are soulmates with a unique bond he sets out to find Charlie. It turns out that Charlie is quite real as well, and after the two men do some sleuthing they track down Maddie and set off to rescue her.
I was intrigued by the concept of soulmates being connected through dreams without ever having to meet in person. Maddie, Charlie, and Cole had a special connection that ultimately brought them together even though they were miles apart. The bond was so strong that two men were willing to risk their lives to save the woman of their dreams without ever having met her in person. That is the ultimate sacrifice for the woman you love. When they do finally meet in person the chemistry between them is undeniable so be prepared for some hot and steamy sex scenes.

Hands down one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a long time. If you enjoy hanging on by the seat of your pants this one’s for you. The grieving widow, the deception and greed from a child. All rolled into a nice, neat package. A can’t put down thriller for the ages.

Tamaska meets Kodiak when she hires him to work as security for an important event that she has put together where a priceless jewel is to be auctioned off. She is immediately attracted to him but refuses to allow herself to feel anything towards him. After all, not only is he staff that has been hired to work the event, but she also does not believe in one-night stands. Kodiak also feels attracted to Tamaska but tries to deny it. Not only is she a human, and he hates all humans, but he must maintain focus on the job he was hired to do.
When the priceless jewel is stolen from under their noses it is up to Kodiak to find it. He knows that it has to be the work of the vampires and sets out to get the jewel back. Tamaska blames Kodiak for the theft and wants nothing to do with him. She is determined to find the jewel and bring it back because she does not want to lose her job or her reputation. What Tamaska is unaware of is that the world she is venturing into is dangerous and that the vampires want to capture her. Kodiak must protect her, but Tamaska refuses his protection because she does not trust him.
Kodiak knows that he is the only one who can protect Tamaska from being killed by the vampires. An event that could wreak destruction and death on the world. He approaches the alpha of his pack and requests his permission but is told that he must not allow himself to be distracted by a human. Kodiak must now choose between his pack and the woman he is finding himself attracted to and feels compelled to protect.
This book was a great read with wonderful characters and a great storyline. It had action, suspense, murder, passion, vampires, wolves, and shapeshifting. I loved the shapeshifting aspect of this book and the love-hate thing that Tamaska and Kodiak had going on between them. It was obvious from the very first look between them that they were equally attracted to one another. Yet, both were allowing their pride to deny them to really act on their feelings. Tamaska is a strong-willed, stubborn, hardworking, and independent woman who is used to doing things on her own. She does not feel that she needs protection and feels that she can do everything on her own. Kodiak is not used to feeling like he should protect anyone, especially a human. He finds Tamaska bossy and pig-headed but still feels drawn to help her. Neither Tamaska nor Kodiak are used to needing another person to rely on and are used to doing things on their own, yet the attraction between them is undeniable.
