The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters Book 2) by Erica Taylor – Review by Jenni Bishop

The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters, #2)The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Perfect Duchess (The MacAlisters Book 2) by Erica Taylor is an enjoyable and easily read historical romance story. There is danger and kidnapping, lies and deceit, blackmail and attempted murder, scandalous affairs and intrigue that made for an interesting journey. I am not usually a lover of historical romances but Erica has done a great job with this series and has managed to hold my interest. There are a lot of twists and turns that keep you on your toes and the story flows nicely.

Andrew has had a lot put on his shoulders at an early age. Unfortunately his character along with it but when Lady Clara once again appears in his life he slowly realises that he is allowed to have more. He doesn’t need to be what he thinks everyone expects.

Clara has been made the town gossip by someone who should love her but somehow despises her. If it weren’t for a certain Duke and his family she would be dead or a social outcast.

This is a charming romantic read that is a little scandalous and intriguing. I am excited to read more about the rest of the MacAlister clan.

Shattered Love (Forever Us, #1) by Nivia Borell – Review by Jenni Bishop

Shattered LoveShattered Love by Nivia Borell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered Love: Book one of the “Forever us” series by Nivia Borell is a contemporary romance story that is a very raw and extremely emotional read. This story provoked so many feelings in me and I am not sure how I feel about it. It is a story of young love destroyed by one night. A night that was not at all what it seemed. A night that destroyed two people beyond repair. I was so angry at times and my heart was breaking. The pain is palpable, hearts are shattered, anger is ripe, lies and deceit are finally discovered but is it too late? The story is told from several POVs, which gives an inside look at the emotions and feelings of the characters and makes the story more interesting even though I didn’t quite connect with these characters.

Bria no recollection of events but everything points to betrayal. Betrayal that has literally caused her heart to break and her mind to splinter. She has broken heart syndrome and has become emotionally shut down and numb. All the players believe they have been brought together to celebrate her birthday but for her it is something entirely different.

Damien will never let love in to his life again. Betrayal runs to deep. The anger he holds keeps feeling anything else at bay but the words he finds can only destroy. When secrets and lies are finally revealed can he finally find the peace he needs to heal the one thing he still loves?

I am interested to see what the next book in the series brings.

Dancing Queen by Charlotte Roth – Review by Jenni Bishop

Dancing QueenDancing Queen by Charlotte Roth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dancing Queen by Charlotte Roth is a little different, easy to read and a little quirky that makes for a light read. It is fun and witty and had me laughing from the very start but there are also a lot of painful memories for our characters which made them all the more endearing to me. It is a story where by people are forced to look at themselves. It’s a story of people who finally do something for themselves. It is a story of pain and passion of being to fat or too thin. It is a story where the main characters are not what society consider the norm. It is a story of it is not always what you see on the outside but what is inside. It is a story of love and acceptance, hopes and dreams.

It is a sweet and heartfelt journey that the characters are on, with the support of their misfit family and friends.

Rules of EngagementRules of Engagement by Mika Jolie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rules of Engagement: A Single Dad Romance (Platonically Complicated Book 3) by Mika Jolie is a friend to lovers romance story that leaves you with a big sigh and feeling good. I love Mika’s writing style and her characters are always realistic but this story I loved. It was told in the male POV and I loved the difference it placed on the whole feel of the story. It was fun and delightful and damn was it sexy. The plot is simplistic yet the complexity of the emotions involved show the real and true multiple layers our characters.

Lucas’s ex is making waves and threatens the one thing he loves more than life, his daughter. Just when things seem impossible one of his best friends offers their help. One that will change the course of his life. BUT Bro code stands in his way to true happiness.

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey from friends to lovers. Jolie’s writing is always a delight and I look forward to reading more from her in the future. Light, fun and easy, with a healthy dose of chemistry and attraction that steams up the sheets makes for a wonderful read.

If you love a forbidden romance story, then Rules of Engagement is just what you need.

CLAIMED (The Torzial Affair Book 3)CLAIMED by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Claimed (The Torzial Affair Book 3) by Via Mari is explosive and unfortunately the end of the series. This amazing series just gets better and better. The web of pain and betrayal, lies and deceit is a cleverly woven together plot that Via has masterfully put together. As with the others in the series the storyline is a brilliant complex, multifaceted and multidimensional which has the pages turning and the story ending before I was ready. The journey with these amazing characters has been one hell of a ride. I felt every emotion possible and was on the edge of my seat the whole way.   Jenny is fighting for her freedom. A precious freedom that could all be gone in a fraction of a second. Her life and her experiences will never be the same but it is all for nothing if the one person who counts doesn’t know truth from lies. The one person who knows how to take the pain away. The man she loves.

Brian will stop at nothing and no expense is spared to fight for the one thing he loves most in this world. Yes it is love and who would have thought that. But with so much conflicting information how much of it is truth and how much is lies.

I am sorry to see the series end but I can’t wait to see what comes next from Via.

Luke (Dark Water Security #1)Luke by Madison Quinn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn is one heart stomping read. OMG this story broke my heart and had the tears flowing. This is my first book by Ms. Madison and I am absolutely blown away. Warning this story may cause triggers. I fell in love with our main characters Luke and Emily and wanted to take out the person who hurt them. This story is dark and oh so raw and my God I can not stop thinking about it, which just goes to show it is worth the read. It is a highly emotional read full of pain and suffering, angst and terror, deceit and horrors you can only dream about. It is well written and the wonderful characters are well developed and multi layered. I read this book in one sitting, I was so invested and there is so much going on in this book and there was never a time that I wanted to put it down. There was no way and I mean no way that I could put it down until I knew the outcome. I also had to remember to breathe, just this simple action was sometimes hard to remember as I was so emotionally into this book.

I will not tell you about the story, I will let you discover it all on your own but as I said before it may cause triggers to some people.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series and see what happens next.

Movie Star (21st Century Courtesan Book 2) by Pamela DuMond is another exciting book in this great series. You must read the others before reading this one as this one takes off where the last one ended. It is a bit of an emotional read, full intrigue and mystery, pain and suffering and hot, sexy men who need to find the one thing that has stopped them from moving forward. It is well written and the great characters are well developed, complex and multi layered. I read this book in one sitting, from start to finish, as I was enthralled, there is so much going on in this book and there was never a time that I wanted to put it down.

Tales of the Dragonfly Book III: Extended FlightTales of the Dragonfly Book III: Extended Flight by Tamara Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tales of the Dragonfly Book III: Extended Flight by Tamara Ferguson is another captivating
contemporary romance and another wonderful addition to the other stories Tamara has
given us. This could even be my favourite so far. With lots of danger and drama, mystery
and suspense we see some of the wonderful characters, from the other series, from the
wounded warriors and the Dragonfly Pointe and Crystal Rock. Tamara has a way of writing
that never fails to captivate and enthrall me and I always know I am in safe hands whenever
I read one of her stories. She likes to throw you off track by adding a little twists here and a
little turn there, which keeps you guessing. Her main characters are always warm, caring
and loving and the men will stop at nothing to ensure all is right with the world.
In this journey we see Aaron a wounded warrior just returned discovers his is sister is
missing. Whilst trying to finding out more, he accidentally saves a woman who is in danger.
But who is the real danger, where is his sister and what did she get herself into.
This awesome book is not one to be missed. I can’t wait for more to come.

Surviving Grace: Book Five (Surviving Series) by Virginia Wine is another exciting book in
this great series that I love and sadly the last. But we get to catch up with all the wonderful
characters from the other four books in the series and you must read the others before
reading this one. Especially book four as this is where we first get introduced to Grace. This
story is well written and the characters are well developed and multi layered. It is an
emotional read full of danger and intrigue, mystery and action, pain and suffering and most
of all hot, sexy, alpha men who offer protection, love and friendship.
Grace has been tortured and traumatised, and mentally abused. The pain of her past as
destroyed who she is, her soul, her being but she now has people around her who are not

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters Book 1) by Erica Taylor – Review by Jenni Bishop

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters, #1)A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters Book 1) by Erica Taylor is an historical romance and an enticing read. I usually don’t like historical romances but I did enjoy this one. Erica’s attention to detail and writing and her multi layered characters and plot made for an interesting read that kept me on my toes. This story is full of mystery and intrigue, romance and secrets and the teasing and witty banter between the main characters had me laughing out loud.

Susanna is a breath of fresh air and definitely a forward thinker who likes to push the boundaries. The strict social rules of her time only apply when she says so. She is sassy and sweet and witty and sarcastic and has found one person who can keep her from a life of boredom. Now she finds herself caught up in intrigue that could end in the worst of ways.

Ian is looking to find the person who stole his sister. The one who is responsible for so much heartache. When he comes face to face with one mysterious woman, he finds himself thinking of things he has no place thinking about. One woman that can help take his pain away but the one thing he should not have and needs to push away only he can not stay away no matter the cost.

I enjoyed Erica’s story telling and look forward to reading more from her.

Bound (The Torzial Affair Book 2) by Via Mari is amazing. This incredible series just gets better and better. Via has woven a superb web of betrayal and deceit that has more twists and turns than a road in the mountains. This complex and multifaceted and multidimensional story had me spellbound as I turned page after page not knowing where the story would take me. My heart was often in my throat as I followed along with these wonderful characters that have found their way into my heart and soul. It is one sexy, steamy and erotic read that will leave you in need of a cold shower.

Jenny is caught up in something she has no idea about but the repercussions are a matter of life and death, not only to herself but all those around her and the evidence just seems to pile up and up. There is only one person she can trust but it seems even that may be displaced.

Brian is trying to do everything he can to help the woman who has come to mean so much to him. It seems that for every step forward they end up taking several back. Who is behind this trouble and who can he trust? Will he walk away from the one who needs him the most when he is confronted evidence that implicate the worst?

Via is an author not to be missed. I am so excited to read the next book in this brilliant series.

Infamy (Feisty Lawyers, #2)Infamy by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Infamy (Feisty Lawyers Book 2) Seelie Kay is a short and easy read with lots of suspense and intrigue. I recommend reading the first book before this one to get the background and history of the characters as they continue in this story. I loved the first book but this one is even better and is my favourite so far.

Seelie’s cleverly woven plot, where the suspense is palpable, had me on the edge of my seat, as they race against time to stop terrorists. I loved every bit of the action and adventure, the danger and lets not forget the humour and banter that had me laughing. Even though it is a short story it definitely packs a punch and keeps you on your toes.

Nothing But Trouble (Irresistible Billionaires #1)Nothing But Trouble by Ashley Bostock
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nothing But Trouble (Irresistible Billionaire Series Book 1) by Ashley Bostock is another great contemporary billionaire romance story from her. Ashley is one of my favourite authors and I love the way she tells her stories. Her characters are wonderful, well developed and always a little complex which draws you in and make the journey just a little bit more
appealing. I love stories that flow easily, even though there were a lot of bumps in the road and are told in different POV’s. I always love to read the male perspective as well and Ashley never disappoints in this area. This tantalising, steamy and sizzling story is a rags to riches tale that I read in one sitting.

Michael Vilander is a self made billionaire, of a very successful online matchmaking site. He is a one and done kind of man and closed off to relationships, thanks to his past, but he desperately needs a date for a Gala. Between him and his grandmother, whom I adored, he
tries his own site. What follows is a captivating journey into the unknown, that changes his life for the better but not before his past, an evil, conniving, horrible and nasty ex comes back to play havoc.

Sophia will do anything for the one person she loves more than anything and that includes her current job. Will that be the one thing that keeps her from happiness?

This incredibly story is well worth the read. I am looking forward to the next sizzling delight in the series.

The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery is amazing. It is one heartbreaking, soul crushing and heart stoppingly story. DO NOT and I repeat, do not read this book at work because you will do nothing but howl all the way through. Yes, I got strange looks. I have read a lot of K.L. books but this is the first I have read in this genre from her and it is a wonderful and tragic story where the main characters lives become intertwined after each has suffered from the most horrible thing a parent should go through. K.L. has excelled herself in this book. I’m not sure what I expected, but this is so much more. This is one story that will pull on your heartstrings and you can not put down. I loved and hated every single thing and read it in one sitting. I was mesmerized and captivated, enthralled and so engrossed that by the time I had finished, I was an emotional wreck. This story is such an emotional rollercoaster ride of feelings that don’t let up. Even now days later I am still thinking about this raw and confronting story and it still brings tears to my eyes.

Angelia’s life has been turned upside down. She has been left shattered to her very soul. To the core of her being, her essence. She never wants anyone to go through the hell that she has gone through. She will never be the same again.

Mark spots her across the room but they are on two very different sides of a long held debate that continually raises its ugly head, but he just can’t get her out of his mind. Now his life has been turned upside down. He has been left shattered to his very soul. To the core of his being, his essence. He will never be the same again.

When they discover a miracle has happened will it be enough to set them on a path of happiness?

This is one beautifully tragic story that everyone should read.

Crime Lord's Captive (Crime Lord, #1)Crime Lord’s Captive by Mia Knight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Crime Lord’s Captive (Crime Lord #1) by Mia Knight has me torn between loving it and hating it. It is a dark and twisted story that had me on edge the whole way through. It is a story about a crime lord who is dark and dangerous and obsessed with his girlfriend who has been missing for 3 years. This book is action packed and full of suspense and drama, hate and love, murder and abuse, pain and angst. Mia has embraced the dark side of the underworld that is violent and disturbing by nature and has shown us a world that we can only imagine. A world that is violent and uncompromising. A world that is kill or be killed.

Lyla loved him once, until she saw just what he was. What she saw, she could never unsee and it was enough for her to go into hiding. Lyla created a new life but she is constantly living in fear of being found and living a secret. Now her past has come calling and she has to face her worst nightmare, the man that terrifies her. The same man she once loved but that man was long gone. But is she safe from the world in which he lives?

Gavin has never stopped searching for the woman he loves. He refuses to believe she left willingly. She has become his obsession, his possession, his and he will stop at nothing to get her back. But can he keep her safe from the violent world in which he lives? Can he keep her safe from himself?

This crazy, disturbing and yet strangely beautiful story ended in a huge cliffhanger that had my emotions all over the place and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

Rainy Day Lovers (The Rocklyns Book 3) by Alicia Street is a wonderfully written contemporary romance. It is a quick and easy read that is both heartwarming and heartfelt. It was not what I expected, no, it was so much more. I loved every single minute of it and I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. Salvation: An Ash Park Prequel Novella by Meghan O’Flynn is where it all started; Where we find out just what makes Petrosky who he is in the following books in the series that are both enthralling and compelling. The Ash Park series is dark in nature as it follows the life of cops and detectives as they race against time to bring killers in and justice for the victims. Meghan is very good at these types of stories and they wouldn’t be the stories they are without the twist and turns she throws your way that you certainly don’t see coming until you are right on top of them. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pandora’s Poison (Hart & Cole Book 2) by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné is enthralling and compelling. Trust me when I say reading the first in this series before reading this one is a must, otherwise you are missing out on the necessary backstory of the characters that carry over in this story. The characters are complex and their relationship is a little dark and getting into their minds as the story is told in multiple POV’s adds another layer to the intricately woven story. It shows a relationship at its worst. It shows their journey through love and hate, trust and doubts, pain and passion. When is it time to say enough is enough? When is it time to stop torturing each other? I admit I enjoyed this book more than I did the first, even though I enjoyed it. Sacha is good at writing such raw emotions that are equally intense and passionate that draw you in and leave you exhausted as you are encapsulated into their world and relationship. I won’t tell you any of the story as it is one that has to be read without reveal.   I am intrigued to see what we get in book three.

Caught in the Spin (the Caught Series Book 2) by Sharleen Scott is the second book in the series, that gets better with each book. Trust me, you need to read the first book in the series as this one comes into play two years after the first book and the characters are intertwined. The plot is a little more sinister than the first, but boy, oh boy, I was captivated and enthralled and no way was I putting it down, even when work got in the way, it was all I could think about. I fell in love with Tom and Talli as I did with Clay and Harlie from the first book. In fact I fall in love with all Sharleen’s main characters. Amazing.   Tom, a strong, caring, sexy man has more than physical scars, he spent years looking, years wondering, years wanting. Now he is faced with his past but never in the way he would have imagined, not in a million years. This twist brings heartache and sadness but also an unknown joy.   Tallie, a beautiful, sweet soul has lived through an horrendous past but came out one hell of a strong woman. More than she knows. Not So Broken (Love Grows Series, # 1)Not So Broken by Renee Regent
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not So Broken (Love Grows Series Book 1) by Renee Regent is a contemporary romance that finds its way in to your heart and is a fantastic start to the series. It is a bit of an emotional read, sometimes there is laughter but other times there are tears. I was captivated at the raw and real feel of the storyline and I fell in love with Sacha and Gibson. They are two people that are complex, with secrets and trust issues and lots of baggage. But for all that they are wonderful characters, as are their best friends who had me laughing and crying.

Gibson, is a broken man and has left his high profile life behind to somewhere remote and isolated to heal. He is no longer the man he was, that man left a long time ago but the pain, the hurt, the blame he has place upon himself may never be broken. Now he is faced with a miracle, one that brings heartache and sadness but also an unknown joy. Now if only he could make this strong headed woman see he was what she needed. His emotions are so raw that you feel them right along with him and you just want to wrap him up and show him that it will all be ok.

Sacha, was blindsided by a cheating past but came out stronger than before. One night has now left her with a miracle, something she knew was impossible, something she was told would never happen. There were times I wanted to knock some sense into Sacha, she frustrated me a lot. She is just so stubborn and headstrong and didn’t need a man but she is also focused, determined, and goal orientated to get what she wants to support her life.

Not So Broken is a great story, with lots of emotions. I was highly invested in their lives and the outcome from the very start. Now I can’t wait for the next book.

Killer Lawyer (Jake Wolfe Book 3) by Mark Nolan is a very complex and very cleverly written gripping and suspenseful tale and the next in this wonderful series. This story is told in multiple POV’s which gives us more of an insight to the characters and a multi layered dimension. The story is action packed and fast paced with the usual twist and turns that lead you astray. The story is intense and will have your heart racing one minute and have you laughing the next. The danger and the intrigue, the mystery and drama will have the pages falling one after the other as you race towards the finish line.

Jake Wolfe is a former marine, a lawyer, covert operative and a nice guy who always rubs people the wrong way without even trying but if you are ever in a bind, him and his buddy, ex war dog, Cody are the ones you want covering your back. The race is on to stop a serial killer whose kills have no rhyme or reason. If not stopped no one is safe.   Nolan’s plots are complex yet simplistic in their threads in the web he has cleverly woven together. I am very much looking forward to the next book.

Eight Steps to Alpha (Nerdy by Nature #1) by Taylor Sullivan is an easy fun, sweet, sexy story that is entertaining from start to finish. It is a friends to lovers story that will have you laughing along the way at their banter and friendship. Taylor has written characters that are charming and funny, quirky and witty, lovable and sexy whilst a little nerdy on the side. It is a highly entertaining journey on the road to change, discovery and love.

Climbing The Walls (Hart & Cole Book 1) by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné – Review by Jenni Bishop

Climbing The Walls (Hart & Cole Book 1)Climbing The Walls by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Climbing The Walls (Hart & Cole Book 1) by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné is not your everyday romance story. It is a very real, very emotional, very raw, very serious look at a marriage between perfectly normal and flawed people, with everyday problems. It is told in both POV’s which gives you an even better insight to their feelings and hopes and desires. As powerful and captivating as this story was I found that it was a bit slow for me. It is a long story and I wanted it to move forward a bit faster. I found myself getting frustrated because I wanted to know if the writing on the wall would be what I thought. I needed to know how things ended and I needed to know now. Soooooooooo……. I did the cardinal sin and jumped to the last few chapters. This compelling story is at times funny and yet serious, romantic and sexy and is full of sadness and anger. It is also testing the bounds of trust, loyalty and marriage. It shows the struggles and fights, the pain and hurt that all relationships go through and we know are hard work and sometimes you have to wonder if love is always enough.

Beneath the Surface (A Gray Ghost Novel Book 3) by Amy McKinley – Review by Jenni Bishop

Beneath the Surface (Gray Ghost #3)Beneath the Surface by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beneath the Surface (A Gray Ghost Novel Book 3) by Amy McKinley is another great book in this series that I have grown to love. Watching the boys turn into men has made me feel protective of them but they have done me proud. Amy has done a great job of writing these wonderful characters and her writing style is captivating and gripping. I love the way she weaves the intrigue and drama, mystery and suspense throughout the book to make it one book you are unable to put down.

Hannah is not what she seems, not even close. She is such a complex character that has been through more than anyone person should ever have to endure. The pain the heartache and the lies all come to a head that you don’t see coming. But the one thing she can count on fights for her and to stay in her life.

Jack finds himself preparing for a mission and when he hears who is involved nothing but nothing will keep him away. Along the way he finds everything he thought he knew was nothing like the reality he is forced to encounter.

I really look forward to reading more in this series. I love it.

A Talent for Trouble (Bad Boys of Space Book 1) by Landra Graf – Review by Jenni Bishop

A Talent for Trouble (Bad Boys of Space, #1)A Talent for Trouble by Landra Graf
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Talent for Trouble (Bad Boys of Space Book 1) by Landra Graf is a science fiction romance story that is full of action and danger, adventure and a little romance. This is my first book by Landra and it is well written and intriguing. This is a space story where there are battles and the hope of survival, whilst those in power rule their domain with heavy handedness and murder. It is interesting and very entertaining as we travel on this journey with these lovable quirky characters that Landra has created and bred life into. The banter between the characters is entertaining, as is the comradery and friendships and the knowledge that family does not have to be by blood.

Emilio Morales has never had much luck and it seems to be getting worse. He has made a deal with the devil and one that has terrifying consequences. But before he can begin he has to face a devil of his own and in doing so, he encounters the most frustrating woman in the universe and that one woman is determined to make his life hell.

Toni Smith is sassy and independent and has always had a rough life and always finds herself in the wrong situations. On a quest to find what is rightfully hers, she encounters the most frustrating man in the universe and that one man is determined to make her life hell.

This is a fun story that should not be missed by those who enjoy this genre. I wonder where Landra takes us next.
