Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2) by Effie Kammenou – Review by Kayla Kearney

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The second book in the series was just as good as the first! Focusing on a new couple, Mia and Nicholas, it was great to see a new authors twist on the forbidden office romance trope, which she excelled at! My favorite thing about this story, like many others, was seeing Nicholas slowly opening up to Mia, as at the beginning of the story he has very firmly closed his heart off to prevent further heartache. I loved watching him learn to trust her with his heart, it very much reminds me of myself, someone else who takes awhile to fully open themselves up to one of the most vulnerable things on the planet, someone else’s love. I also love that they continue one of the side stories in the first novel, trying to figure out what happened to the grandfather of Mia from this book and Kally from the previous. I am hoping to get more answers on the mystery in the next book, which I am ecstatic to read next.

I went in to this book expecting just another romance story but ended up with so much more. The characters and the connection they shared felt so real, it was evident on every page and in every interaction. I loved the way they complimented each other.
The author has done a brilliant job at representing some tough issues to tall about – especially mental health. It was refreshing to see this done right for once. This is an amazing book that I would highly recommend.

If you want a book that is all about the characters, this is the one for you. I loved watching Mia and Castor’s bond grow. Both had merit in their own right but they both complimented each other really well.
The story was fast paced and exciting right from the start. It pulls you into and really holds your interest to the end. The author builds the story amazingly and makes this such a great read. I would highly recommend this book.

5/5 Stars

Devil’s Breath by Lang Johnson

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Devil’s Breath is a great read. It’s a perfect mix of suspenseful and romance. I had a hard time putting the book down.

Sera is her family’s assassin and shes Damn good at her job. Meeting her next target on her club puts her plans in motion. She doesn’t expect to fall in love. The quote I chose for Sera is: “Anyway, we have work to do. Since you want to bring up my degree, why don’t you put your computer science degree to use before we get caught?”

Cassius is in town to help his brother out. Little does he know that he’s fronting them the money for a fake business. He meets Sera and knows something is up. He finds out what it is, but that doesn’t stop him from loving her. The quote I chose for Cassius is: “Lower your guns. You come here every night. I’m assuming it’s not for an evening rendezvous with a hot lover. My brother, Damion, and Lorenzo are smuggling Adrenochrome. There are thousands of bottles hidden behind the walls.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

Finding Starlight: A Small Town, Romantic Suspense (The Quimby Grove Series #1) by Shannon Nikole

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Finding Starlight is the first book in The Quimby Grove Series. Beck and Ellie are an amazing couple. Ellie doesn’t have the best backstory and it’s a little dark.

Ellawyn leaves her hometown in order to be safe from the clutches of her ex boyfriend. She finds herself in Quimby Grove and feels like she’s finally found her place. Benji finds a place in her heart and she’s devastated when she learns Benji is sick. The quote I chose for Ellawyn is: “Because right now, I’m broken, Beckett. I feel like I’ve been shattered into a million pieces, and I don’t even know where to begin to piece it all back together again. I need to help myself before I can let you back in. This is just what I need to do for me. I won’t feel safe in Quimby Grove, or in my apartment, for a while. I need to work through it first.”

Beckett comes back to Quimby Grove thinking he’s back for a short visit. He doesn’t know that his two week visit will turn into something more. When he meets Ellawyn he feels something he’s never felt before. Will things work out for the two of them? The quote I chose for Beckett is: “From the day you entered my life, you’ve made it better. The challenges we’ve faced, the heartache we’ve endured, and the laughter we’ve shared wouldn’t have been the same without you at my side. You’re everything to me, and I want nothing more than to make you mine. Ellawyn Rose Calloway, will you marry me?”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series (A Dark Sparrow Novel) by India Kells – Review by Megan Conley

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Get the boxset…don’t even consider getting 1 just to see if you’ll like it…you will. These books are addictive and engaging and fast-paced and seductive and so much more. I absolutely love the way India Kells creates and develops her characters and how each character is an imperfect match for the other. The amount of push and pull between the Brothers and each of their Sparrows is riveting and each book has just the right amount of spice. I positively love the way Kells weaves each of the Brothers and their Sparrows stories together to build on each story as we progress in the box set. We still get to see characters that were the focal points of other stories while not losing sight of the main characters in this story. India Kells is quickly becoming one of my favorite, go-to authors. I will definitely be reading all of her stuff!

Castor’s Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars Book 2) by Tai James – Review by Carrie Reed

Castor's Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars # 2)Castor’s Kiss by Tai James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!

Perfect! Everything about this book was perfect! The elements of romance, action, space, different planets and different creatures all came together nicely. I did not read the first book, and at one point in the beginning I did feel like I was missing some things, but picked up quickly. I will definitely be going back to read it though. I love Castor and I love Mia, and I love both of them together. What Mia has endures in first portion of the book is just awful, nobody should have to withstand any of it. I was hoping someone would come and save her and thus we get Castor. They are soulmates and their journey to escape from Throl is super entertaining and had me on the edge waiting to see what would happen next. I really hope to see a 3rd book to this series to see what becomes of Not and Athena.

Vive la Resistance (Donovan Trait Book 3) by Seelie Kay – Review by Katie Turner

Vive la ResistanceVive la Resistance by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vive la Resistance by Seelie Kay is a Vampire/Were paranormal romance and is the third book in the Donovan Trait series. Now there is a huge war brewing. The Vampire Coalition wants to eliminate Half-Blood Vampires and Weres and those who have even the faintest trace of their blood. This includes Donovan Trait’s family and their two infant children. Unbeknownst to the Coalition, there are literally millions of Half-Bloods and they are prepared to fight for their freedom. And the Trait’s certainly won’t give in without putting up a fight.

I highly enjoyed all of the Donovan Trait books, but this one was by far my favorite! If you love books with vampires, weres, war with a dose of romance, you may find yourself really enjoying it as well. I certainly did. I definitely recommend reading the first two books before picking up Vive la Resistance. The previous books have a lot of information, situations and character building that entwine with the third book. Otherwise, pick it up and enjoy getting submersed into this fun world with adorable characters!

This is for sure a mus read book I would say. This was a new author for me, and I will be for sure reading more by this wonderful author. I was deeply touched with the writing, it truly impacted me!

This book was so much more to me than it was at first glance. I am someone who has my own mental battles, and my husband has helped me through it in so many different ways. The writing of this very talented author was amazing. I was so invested in the writing that I could not let go of the words that I was reading. The characters were connectable and impossible not to love..there was more to the issues addressed than just mental health, that were very personal to me. I loved reading that and seeing the story come to light with triumph. So many emotions were felt, I loved this book with all my heart!

Such a perfect and crafted book. I felt emotionally attached and in love reading. I was sad to see it end, but it was bittersweet seeing how all tied together at the end. Certainly a must read and not one to be passed up for any reason. A must read for sure! I very much highly recommend this wonderful book and author!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The first book was amazing from start to finish and this one was just as amazing, if not even more! I loved how this one had even more character development and the writing really pulled you in even more!

I personally was hooked with this one. Reading on Desiree and how she really had her light to shine with her determination really shined bright I would say! She became a very determined leader in this one. She had her sights on something and she went after it. Very admirable reading what she was the first round and seeing her now in this round! Theron and Jaxon are wonderful and the three of them made a wonderful trio. They all had different reasons to be who they are and their dealing with vampires. They each contributed to the story in this each own way. I loved this story and the writing that it possessed and words created!

This book was so freaking good! Could not put down! Was in constant anticipation! I loved this book and the writing so much! Highly recommend this must read book! Not to be passed up for sure! Loved it!

First, We Kill all the Lawyers (Donovan Trait Series) by Seelie Kay – Review by Katie Turner

First, We Kill All the Lawyers (Donovan Trait Book 1)First, We Kill All the Lawyers by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First, We Kill All the Lawyers by Seelie Kay is the first book to the Donovan Trait series. The confident, handsome Donovan Trait is a vampire casanova that chose to stop aging at 35 years old, but has been around since the late 1700s. Needless to say, he is very well versed with law… and the judges. But suddenly, someone is killing off lawyers and he has to stop whoever this serial killer is and protect himself and the ones he holds dear. Especially his newfound love, Judge Shirley Magnusen.

This was a very fun read for me and I was pulled in from the very beginning of the story by Donovan’s charm. While I love a good vampire romance, this one struck with me differently. It was unique from any other I had read before. These are not your typical vampires, so don’t expect this to be similar to anything you’ve ever encountered, regardless of how many vampire books you’ve read. Definitely recommend if you love vampires, romance and suspense!

Castor’s Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars Book 2) by Tai James – Review by Kerry Carr

Castor's Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars # 2)Castor’s Kiss by Tai James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this sci-fi romance. The author does an amazing job with her characters making you feel every emotion and wanting them to succeed. The world building is great too transporting the reader to a different planet where violence is the normal and people’s lives are dispensable. This book is full of twists and turns and I like how the author allows the romance to develop at a slow place which makes sense of the level of distrust out characters have because of their situations.

To begin with we meet Mia. She was captured and enslaved by Throl who has her fight everyday for her life. She is the best fighter is has and makes him a lot of money so he has not intention of letting her go. Mia thinks she is on her own with her old crew missing and she assumes dead. However things change when Castor shows up.
Castor is sent to secure Mia’s freedom but that plan goes wrong when he finds himself entangled in Mia’s world also captured and now her fighting partner.
Will they be able to trust each other enough to be able to survive the battles they need to face? Will they eventually be allowed to go free? Will their growing feelings make them stronger or be used as a weakness against them?

Ye Gods! The Law is an Ass! (Donovan Trait Book 2) by Seelie Kay – Review by Katie Turner

Ye Gods! The Law is an Ass! (Donovan Trait Book 2)Ye Gods! The Law is an Ass! by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ye Gods! The Law is an Ass! is the second book to the Donovan Trait series, by Seelie Kay. Wedding bells are ringing for my friends Donovan Trait and newly turned vampire, Shirley Magnusen! But when Seelie comes down with feeling under the weather, they make a new discovery… she is pregnant! While they are both quite excited about the news, the Vampire Coalition does not mirror their happiness. The Trait’s find themselves escaping to an island for vampires, and is ran by vampire nuns.

I just love the twists in this book. And while I giggled at some of the concepts initially, such as ‘vampire nuns’.. it all WORKS. Seelie makes everything flow together well. Her writing is fantastic and it grips you tight and pulls you into the world she weaves upon the pages. I do recommend reading the first installment before picking this book up. It will be so worth it. I cannot wait to dive into book 3!

Castor’s Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars Book 2) by Tai James – Review by Naomi McDonald

Castor's Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars # 2)Castor’s Kiss by Tai James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I haven’t read much sci-fi romance lately, so I thought I’d give this book a try. I enjoyed the toughness of Mia’s character. Totally related to her disdain when she saw the dress she had to wear near the beginning of the story. Also, hard relate to the trust issues.

One thing I liked was that even though Mia is tough, she still cares about other people enough to try to save them – as is shown in the beginning with De’ara.

I had little bit of a harder time connecting with Castor’s character, but he grew on me.

Favorite character interaction (because, you know, love isn’t perfect):
“So, you admit this isn’t going to be all flowers and roses.”
“I have no doubt that we’ll have many fights. I hope that at the end of each one, you yell, ‘I love you,’ into my face and not run away.”

Overall, a good read with some intense moments to keep you turning the page.

Truth or Kill (Twisted Legends Collection Book 1) by A.C. Kramer – Review by Sara Grantham

Truth or Kill (Twisted Legends Collection, #2)Truth or Kill by A.C. Kramer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Dark Romance” is right! This book was twisted and alluring, so much so that I read it all in a few hours. I couldn’t risk putting it down and not getting the answers to the endgame. As the story unravels, I never quite knew what to expect! Little hints were sprinkled into the story, but I could never fully anticipate what was to come.

This story follows Sydney as she is thrown in with the wolves – almost literally. She was invited at the last minute to attend a retreat with 13 heirs to a large corporation. Even though she is the odd one out, she ends up getting clued into some of the mysterious inner workings of a game they are all playing. Watching Sydney evolve throughout the story – especially at the hands of Kage – was intense. Lots of steamy and suspenseful scenes to keep me hooked!

Beware there are triggers!

“Welcome to the darkness, my little black rose. Blood is your new currency. And it’s time to pay the price.”

Truth or Kill is a thrilling new adult story and the first book in this series. I enjoyed the unique plot which is a dark, with a little humour and twisted bloody game. I have read a lot of this authors books that are paranormal, magic books that I loved but love her dark and twisted tale is even better. The story is cleverly woven with intrigue and suspense.

There’s plenty of passion, secrets, vengeance, thrills, deranged games, drama, dangerous agendas, murder, mystery and so much more. This is a short read with lots of twist and turns.

Having not read anything before written by this author I must say I enjoyed Toni’s writing style. I was totally invested in this emotional story. I didn’t realise this was the seventh book in the series but didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything. But having said that I will be going back to read the others. This story is raw and real and full of struggles but you cannot help falling in love with the characters.

This beautifully written tale is Evan and Callie’s story. Evan is dealing with mental health and self-worth problems but one sweet woman who is strong and sassy maybe just what he needs.

Dealing with mental health problems myself brought the story that much closer to home in this wonderful read.

Blood & Vengeance (The Casket Girls #2)Blood & Vengeance by A.D. Brazeau
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When I saw AD had another book, I jumped at the chance to read it. Blood & Vengeance is the intense second book in this dark series and a great paranormal Vampire romance story. AD does dark paranormal romance well. I loved the mystery, the mythology and historical facts of the Casket Girls from the first book and this one was no different.

Greer, who was stolen from her simple life in Paris and her Dark Knight who has been cursed to live as a blood-sucking vampire, Theron set out to fight for not only their freedom but also those of the casket girls.

AD gives us her version of the Casket Girls from the 1700’s in this twisted dark tale. The beautifully weaved story line is well-developed, the world-building vividly rich, and the characters drew me into the dark side. This compelling story had me hooked from the first book but I think this one was better.

Fear, demon’s, curses, darkness, mystery, are just some of what you will find in this gripping tale that the most hardened paranormal reader will love.

I hope more is coming.

Castor’s Kiss is an intriguing Sci-Fi, romance story. This is my first time reading anything from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the suspenseful plot and the worldbuilding reminded me a bit of the series Atlantis. The story is rife with conflict, danger and characters fighting for their lives and freedom. I didn’t realise this was the second book in the series until I was almost finished but I will be going back to read the others. There is a slow burn romance and finding his mate. This thrilling storyline jumped right into the thick of things from the very start and had great characters that kept me glued to the pages but it was over too soon.

Castor’s Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars Book 2) by Tai James – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Castor's Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars # 2)Castor’s Kiss by Tai James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Castor’s Kiss is a sci-fi romance story. This story reminds me of a coupling between any science fiction story but adds in the ideas behind The Hunger Games. It starts by introducing you to Mia, who has been enslaved by Throl, a leader from a different planet. Mia is forced to fight for her life everyday in the arena, luckily she is one of the best known fighters. She has been fighting for some time – Throl had taken her from other captors that tortured her. She believes her crew have all been captured or perished and she is on her own to survive. However, an Atlantean man, Castor, has been sent to retrieve and return her to her people. What they didn’t expect was the soulmate bond that connected between them. This connection helps lead them to a possible future, but do each of them want that? They are two souls that haven’t really known love, would this connection be able to change that? Would this connection be the link to their survival off of Throl’s planet?
This is the first time I have read anything by this author. I enjoyed the book for the most part. I am not really a sci-fi loving reader, but the author kept things moving and interesting. I never felt there was a lull in the story, there was a lot of action, and the love story wasn’t bad either. I think what I loved most was Mia. She is a badass female who doesn’t show fear, but also has a vulnerable side too. She is smart, cunning, and powerful. She is also someone who goes with her instinct so even when she is scared or never loved before, she wasn’t always pushing feelings aside, she dealt with them. I think Castor played a complimentary love interest to Mia. Both were strong, cunning fighters that complimented each other’s style. This is technically not a standalone, but if you wanted to read it that way you could. Although I may not be big on sci-fi romance, I am interested in possibly reading the next book in the series.

Saved by Love (Bellevue Bullies #7)Saved by Love by Toni Aleo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Saved by Love is one of the most emotional, touching, and beautiful books that I have read in years. It isn’t often that you find a romance about mental health that can touch your heart. This author has written a book that brings home the importance of choosing your mental health over other things that aren’t of importance. Only you can change your mindset. Choose you. Be you. These are a few of the themes of the book. Callie and Evan have both come from challenging backgrounds. They have been different but both have been challenging to mental health. Callie has handled hers differently as has Evan. The story deals with them finding them finding each other and learning that they are worthy of love. Callie goes for what she wants and Evan learns he is worthy. They learn so much on their journey to love. They are able to find their passion again. What makes your life sparkle? They teach their families and friends. They awaken new sparks sin each other. The characters of the story are magnificent. I fell in love with each and every one of them. They feel like they could have been family. The storyline was original. It felt like one that had never been done. So original and true to the heart. Tears were shed during the reading of this book: happy, sad and of joy. I felt the emotions the characters felt. My house is a mental health/autism house so we felt it, touched it and loved it. I only wish they allowed me to give more then 5 stars. This is phenomenal. I hope to read more from this author. I recommend you buy this one. You won’t be sorry.

Castor's Kiss (Soul Bonded in the Stars # 2)Castor’s Kiss by Tai James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mia has been through some tough challenges in her space travels. At the current moment, she’s being held captive and forced into combat to save her life. She doesn’t feel she is enough nor that she is lovable because of what has happened to her. That is a feeling that makes her relatable to many readers out there. After helping a fellow victim thrown into the ring (turns out she has a pretty important role), things start to change slowly. Castor, an Atlantean come to rescue Mia, get’s played and kidnapped. The action in the story will take your breath away. I was glad to read it on the Kindle. I had to know what was coming next. You could feel the tension, the excitement, the suspense, and the spark. It’s all there. The characters are almost three dimensional. It’s so easy to picture them. The descriptions are so colorful. The plot, smooth with a few twists, is terrific. A fun read that will grab you right from the start and won’t let you go until it’s over. And I love the way the author leaves you wanting more. Where did Nox go? Highly recommend for fantasy lovers everywhere. Out of this world trip.

Blood & Vengeance (The Casket Girls #2)Blood & Vengeance by A.D. Brazeau
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I found this story to be very intense and dramatic. One of the Casket Girls, Desiree is now hunting the remaining vampires with Theron. She has brought herself through a rough life only to be kidnapped and brought to another life in New Orleans. Theron is doing his best to keep her safe while Greer is in the Underworld for her 3 months. My favorite part of the story is when Desiree laughs and tells Jaxon that Theron is the grumpy older brother when he asks if they have a relationship. That is the best way to describe them. During their hunt, the vampire that fed off Greer came and tried to kill her. Jaxon came to her rescue. Of course, he had a little favor to ask. This led to more of an adventure after they finished their vampire mission. This story has the best adventures. I found myself enjoying all the mystery, suspense, and having to see what happened next. Jaxon brought the next adventure. He and Desiree had some serious sparks at play. Of course, had to keep those under wrap so no one knew. The story is well-written. It even kept with Book 1 of the series. The plot was smooth with no chunkiness. Toss some romance into the story with a few witches and you have the best paranormal, romantic, suspense that I’ve read in a while. I can’t wait for book 3. I felt the sparks between Lucian and Fossette kick in also. Fantastic series. I would recommend to all my paranormal romance lovers and all my paranormal fans.

This book was a little close to home. A few years ago I would not have been able to read it because I was Ellawyn. I wasn’t able to pick up and move to a different state because of my children but I did finally get away. I also found my Beckett. He had the patience of a Saint and did everything in his power to make her feel safe, loved and important. Pops, Pops was the actual main character in this story. I’ll argue with anyone about this. This story has some twists and turns and was so good. It’s a story of finding yourself and proving that you are stronger than you think.

The evil spirits manifesting the terrorists lurk below, lying in wait to strike again. With loss of a much-needed ally, she lacks freedom to learn what the realm may be facing. Worse yet, many, even some most trusted compatriots, distance themselves from the reckless Queen she’s painted to be.

Her power shackled and left alone, Titania loses faith in her once clear path.

Can she find her footing in time to save them all from eternal darkness?
