Mood Swings and Hockey Flings (Hot Flash Hookups Series) by Sylvie Stewart and Marika Ray – Review by Katie Matthews

Mood Swings and Hockey Flings (Hot Flash Hookups #2)Mood Swings and Hockey Flings by Marika Ray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book so much! It was such a great read. From the very first page I was just totally in love with bath Kaitlyn (with a K) and Banks! They both had such great personalities and I loved that they wound each other up but underneath the chemistry was bubbling away. I really do love an older romance story now, I think I can definitely relate to the characters a lot more than stories with the young 20 somethings as the main characters. Kaitlyn was just such a down to earth person going through things that I can certainly relate to. She was focused on her career and she was good at it. I thought she was a wonderful female lead and I absolutely adored her.
This is definitely one of my favourite books that I have read this year and I 100% recommend it!

Oscar and Emmy Foster Kittens (Oscar and Emmy Series) by Terri Sabol – Review by Katie Matthews

Oscar and Emmy Foster KittensOscar and Emmy Foster Kittens by Terri Sabol
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another lovely book from this author about caring for cats in the community. This time Oscar and Emmy, and their human family are helping to take care of foster kittens for a local shelter. I don’t think it matter which country you live in there is a huge cat problem from people not neutering their cats at an appropriate age. I myself, in the UK, foster cats/pregnant mum cats and kittens for a local charity so I love that this book is out there for readers to see how important foster work is in the animal sector. The books went through all the responsibilities of looking after kittens and it was written well. The story was accompanied by beautiful illustrations. One thing I will say is do not underestimate the work that goes in hand-rearing kittens – it’s hard work!
A great book that’s raising awareness for the need of foster homes for abandoned and stray cats.

Loris Opens Up His Heart (Courage Tales Series) by Dagmara Sitek – Review by Katie Matthews

Loris Opens Up His HeartLoris Opens Up His Heart by Dagmara Sitek
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a really lovely read and one that really did open up my thinking about how children must feel when they are moved around the care system. I really felt for Loris, he was so shut down when he went to his new foster home but thankfully with the help of his new foster brother and sister he was able to see that he was safe now and could finally be himself and help to open his heart to other people around him.
There was so much in this story that would be great to talk to the children reading about it – it will definitely help children to empathise with children like Loris.
A really good book and one I would recommend.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Winemakers Box Set
5 stars

This wonderful box set contains 3 fantastic historical romance reads. They are all fantastic reads and I would recommend this box set to all historical romance lovers!

Book 1 – The True Purpose of Vines

What a wonderful read. I absolutely love historical romance but this was such a different read for me, I’m used to Regency London reads and I really loved that this one was so different. The setting for the story made it such a unique and new read for me. Griffin and Julia were lovely characters to read about, their romance a slow burn one but a true joy to read about. The author wrote about their relationship so beautifully, that added to the wonderful descriptions of the setting for the story this book really was a pleasure to read. I would absolutely recommend this story to other readers and also other lovers of historical romance – you will not be disappointed and I am really looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Book 2 – The Taste of Light

After reading book 1 in this series I was really looking forward to this one and I wasn’t disappointed. Again the author transported back in time to 1872 Portugal. I love historical romance reads but for me this series has been so great to read because of the setting – I usually read about London and very rarely anywhere else. The author paints an amazing historical picture with her wonderful words and I loved every minute of what I read. I was looking forward to finding out more about Pedro and I loved his POV chapters, I really felt as though I got to know him and yes I did end up falling in love with him! Anne was a sweet character, she may have been young and a little naive but there was just something about her and I loved her and Pedro together!
Overall a great second book in this series and one that I would highly recommend!

Book 3 – The Truth about Myths

Another fantastic read from this author – I absolutely adored this book. from start to finish I was completely captivated by the story and everything that was going on. The authors writing is mesmerising to read at times, full of detail and vivid descriptions of what is happening, I LOVE historical romance but they are usually set in London so I love that I’m reading about a different setting for these books and I love s good enemies to lovers romance so this book ticked everything for me!

The characters Isabel and Henrique were so wonderful to read about they had so much passion and chemistry between them. I loved reading their story. Another huge point for this book is the dual POV which meant we really got to see and understand both of the characters but for me in particular Henrique.

I am really looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future and 100% recommend this book and series!

Fay’s Kindness Parade (The Adventures of Cray Series) by G Pa Rhymes – Review by Katie Matthews

Fay's Kindness Parade (The Adventures of Cray)Fay’s Kindness Parade by G Pa Rhymes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fays Kindness Parade is another wonderful book in this series. My little boy who is 4 absolutely loves this series. He loves the rhyming pattern in the stories, the characters (especially Cray) and the wonderful illustrations that accompany the story. I love the hidden meanings in these stories. This one shows Fay and Cray helping others along the way. It provides so many opportunities for whoever is reading this story with the children to stop and talk about how we should try and help people and maybe what they would do in those situations.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

England: Cultured, Classic, and Charming: A Guide to Hidden England (The Hidden Gems Series)England: Cultured, Classic, and Charming: A Guide to Hidden England by Christy Nicholas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve read many books by this author but this is the first of this kind I’ve read by her so I wanted to give it a go – also being British and living in England I was interested to see what she would include in her guide book.
It was a good read, of course I knew many of the things she wrote about however I may have learnt a couple of things. There were some great facts about English history and the stories behind some of the popular historical places to visit.
I can imagine even if you weren’t planning a journey to visit England this might be a good read just to find out more about the country and some of it history and places of interest.

What an absolutely lovely story! Definitely one of my favourite reads of 2024 so far! As soon as I started reading, I knew it was going to be one of those books that has my completely glued from beginning to end and I was right. I love how relatable Laura was, her character was just so lovely to read about and I was totally invested in her and her journey, a new chapter in her life after losing her husband.
I am definitely going to be looking forward to more from this author in the future and I have to say what an amazing debut novel!

Planting Seeds: Growing Mindful Children Through Yoga by Janice Pratt and Lenora Degen – Review by Katie Matthews

Planting Seeds: Growing Mindful Children Through YogaPlanting Seeds: Growing Mindful Children Through Yoga by Janice Pratt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this! I know it is aimed at children but there were some great mindful yoga ideas in here that I could use as an adult. I did some of the activities in the book with my 4 year old and whilst he might not have quite grasped the concept of what I was talking to him about he enjoyed doing the activities with me. We had quite a few peaceful and calm time throughout the day whilst doing these lessons!
This would be such a great addition to a child’s day, short activities where they really get time to be calm and think about things. The way in which the lessons are written out or clear and explained well – you could just literally grab the book and start. A really useful teaching aid!

Code DogCode Dog by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another wonderful book from this talented children’s author. I really enjoy reading her books and I like these longer length books for older children. It’s such a great way to introduce them to longer reads that you can pick up and put down. The sci fi themes was good and would definitely get children’s imaginations going and capture their interest. There’s some very small twists in the story that will definitely get children guessing along with the characters about what might happen next. Great for encouraging children prediction skills! The story is well written and has a great pace to enable children to follow along easily. The characters were relatable and well developed.
Overall a great story for children aged from around 8 up to 12/13 I would say.

Charlotte’s Control (The Control Series) by Maggie Sims – Review by Katie Matthews

Charlotte's Control (The Control Series)Charlotte’s Control by Maggie Sims
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! Historical Romance is my all-time favourite genre to read and the author absolutely got this book spot on. I loved that it was a little bit different to other historical romances I’ve read with the reverse age gap but I absolutely loved the characters Charlotte and William. There was so much sexual chemistry between the two of them and it felt so real and genuine. The story was really well written and the characters well developed. The authors descriptive language was great, it really enabled me to imagine what I was reading at times. Although there is a BDSM undertone to the story it isn’t over bearing and not the main theme of the book.
Overall I really loved this book and can’t wait to read more from this author again in the future.

This is a lovely book that would be great to read with children who have been asking for a dog to join their family. It gives lots of talking points for parents/carers to talk through about all the different ways you have to care for a new dog and or puppy.
The story is a delightful rhyming tale that will certainly capture children interest as they learn along with Lora and CJ everything they need to know about welcoming a dog into their family.
A sweet read!

Echoing Hearts
This was such a beautifully written story, I really did enjoy it. The characters were well written and were likeable. Dean and Rae were both great characters to read about, their first encounter actually made me chuckle – Dean was not impressed but there was so clearly an instant attraction between them. They both had past issues that was preventing them both from even contemplating a relationship but I was desperately rooting for them both the whole way through the book. I think Rae was definitely my favourite character, she had such a wonderful personality and was so full of confidence and independence – I just loved her!

His Forever Muse
This was such a wonderful story. I fell in love with the characters pretty much straight away. The way the author write from in both the past and present made me feel like a really did know that characters and the journey of their relationship. I think it was pretty clear from the moment that they reunited that there was this amazing chemistry and connection. The author did really with the handling of some of the sensitive topics in the story. She wrote them well and there is a trigger warning from her.
Brandon was a really lovely character and I loved how protective he was of Callie.
Callie is one of those characters who you just instantly take to, she has overcome so much in her past, she had such strength and resilience and I could tell how much she wanted Brandon but was really struggling to let go and move on with her life.

Dangerous Rhythm
Yes!! I loved this story so, so much! I loved the characters, the plot, everything really! Curtis was exactly as I wanted to be, however with what he witnessed we begin to see a little bit of vulnerability creep in. How amazing was Lina! She is my favourite character! She’s fierce, independent and just an all-round amazing woman!! The connection that these two had was great and I loved the chemistry between the two of them.
With a few twists and turns in the story along with amazing characters this story kept me engaged from beginning to end and I would 100% recommend it!

I loved the characters Cy and Jolie – I loved the undercover they didn’t know who each other was and in my opinion that gave them the perfect chance to get to know each other properly! They had such chemistry and it certainly made those pages sizzle at times! Jolie was such an amazing character, I really did love her and everything she did for and everything she did for her family, she was such a relatable character and I really took her into my heart and I 100% came to love Cy in the end!

Make Me Burn (North Fork Series Book 9)Make Me Burn by Alicia Street
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a really great book and I loved every minute of it. I do love an enemies to lovers romance and whilst the characters weren’t technically enemies there was a lot of history between them and an ex best friend thrown in. I loved the characters Logan and Jinx, they did seem to have this genuine connection and I have to admit when I first picked up the book I thought I had got the whole story and characters planned in my head but I was wrong. Logan, yes was you head strong business man but he also had a respectful side to him which I really liked. I really liked Jinx too, she was so down to earth and genuine but she was also a smart business woman with her head screwed on!
Overall a really good read and one that I would highly recommend.

I love the magical themes that run through this story – they certainly get children’s imaginations going. Children will enjoy following Caspian and helping his solve clues to find the hidden present. The story is short and easy to follow – perfect for children aged 4-6 in my opinion and it is accompanied by lovely, bright colourful illustrations.

This was another great read from this series – one that I am really enjoying. I loved Tim and Willow’s story – the author has done a great job with this series and cleverly intertwined all the characters but also allowing the stories to be read independently. The romantic suspense element to the story was great and I was certainly left guessing a few times. Tim and Willow definitely had a great connection and I loved watching their relationship evolve across the book, they definitely had some moments where they were up against things and it was interesting who they called upon for help!
This was definitely an exciting read and one I would highly recommend.

I really do adore this author – she creates such wonderful, relatable characters that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Fearless Love is just another of those wonderful books that you love from start to finish. James and Sara’s story was a sweet read. There were so many elements to it though that I felt like I was on an emotional roller-coaster at times. This talented author definitely knows how to get you invested in her characters. I did like James, I know he was a little grumpy at times but there was just something about him that made me like him straight away. I though the chemistry between him and Sara was great, it felt genuine and believable. They had a great connection and that really shone through.

I really felt for Payden – what a journey he has been on. I could really feel hard everything had been for him and everything he had endured.

There was a lot of action that kept my interest throughout and the characters were great to read about. They had their own things going on. I did really like Cutter, he was a great character to read about and the chemistry between him and Emily was undeniable!

In this book the author touches on the subject of dropping litter and trying to save our oceans and beaches from the rubbish that people leave behind after they have enjoyed their days out. The story again is told in a lovely rhyme that is really engaging for children. My 4 year old really enjoyed this story. The story was sweet and you could really feel how important God and faith is to the author – whom this story is based on and this really came across well in the story. I can imagine people who have a particularly strong faith would find this book lovely to read and especially for younger children who are learning about prayer and believing. The book was well written, a nice short story for young children/adults to enjoy.

It definitely helped in this story as I wasn’t too sure about Sadie’s character but it did enable me to kind of understand some of the ways she acted towards Noah. This was such a cute read for young children about how being nice to people means that you end up with far more friends around you and to make you feel happy. Cray was a little crab who liked to pinch his friends who often moved away when they saw him coming. Cray had to learn his lesson the hard way. I like how this story provides talking points for children about how they behave and what is nice and not so nice. The story had a lovely rhyme to it which is bound to capture children’s interest alongside some beautiful and colourful illustrations.
