This was a cute and educational children’s book. I loved the interaction between Loretta and her mother. It is very easy to understand an read. The illustrations are colorful and eye-catching for kids.

Cute informative children’s story about bees. Pictures are fitting for the story. If I had younger children, I would surely read this to them.
This author writes the cutest most entertaining children’s books. There is even a fun craft at the end to further capture a child’s interest in nature and learning. Teachers and parents should discover this book and in turn a love for bees.
This was an adorable book to read to my kids. They loved learning about the leafcutter bee’s, and their habitat. We were thinking about making our own bee place and this book gave great instructions on how to properly make a hive. This book is very informative as well as an adorable story to go along with it!
Loretta does it again! Loretta goes out to get firewood and finds a small item she thinks is a toy. She finds out that it is a nest for Leaf Cutter bees. She puts it back and when spring arrives, she finds evidence of the bees in her garden. At the end of the story, there are directions on how to make your own bee nest to attract solitary bees to your own garden. Loretta’s inquisitiveness helps us all learn more about the world around us!

I thought this book was really cute! I think my favorite part is the way that Loretta was so inclined to find out more about the bees. The author did great at showing us a new character and also making sure we learned something as well. I also love the tutorial at the end of the book.
Loretta loves exploring her world. When she was helping to collect firewood, she discovered a mysterious rolled-up leaf. When her mother explained it was a nest for leafcutter bees, Loretta wanted to learn more! As the seasons change, Loretta follows the progress of the bees to learn all she can.
This book is adventurous and informational. It is a good lesson on the life cycle of leafcutter bees and what they do for our environment. My kids were engaged in the story the entire time. The illustrations are bright and fun. There is even a cute activity included at the end! If you have an insect-loving kid, this story is for you.
What a cute little story for young readers. A lost bonnet turns into a learning experience for little Loretta. I read this book aloud to my five year old niece who is not a fan of bees. The book has her wanting to lose one of her hats outside for the bees to make a nest in too. We both enjoyed the story! The little helpful bee nest making instructions at the end was a bonus. This spring we will be making one to see if we can attract some bees to our yard for our flowers.
Read this book with my 6 year old. We loved it. We had recently learned about honey bees, so it was nice to learn about another type of bee! I like how she includes learning in books but makes it fun! Lois Wickstrom is a children’s book author I will continue to come back to over and over. Very cute story.
This was a really cute book! Not was only was it cute it was also informative about bees. This book is definitely for older children in my opinion, because younger children aren’t going to understand some of the science and logistics of this story. There are also some really neat and interesting crafts and projects at the end of this book that kids would enjoy!
This is a cute story with a nice message. It give some good information about the leaf cutter bees for an adult and younger child. The illustrations are nice but I wish they were a little clearer since I knew nothing about these bees and wanted closer looks. In the back it gives information about making a home for these bees with every day products. This is a good story as well as informative.

Another gem from Lois, a lovely story with beautiful artwork teaching children about bees and ways they can support them in their own backyard. There’s even an activity in the back for children and adults to enjoy.
Loretta’s bonnet flew away. She didn’t notice till her mom told her. Then she found the bonnet. The bees had nested there. Fast paced book. I read to my baby she paid attention.
Growing up in California, it feels like earthquake preparedness should be the “norm.” However, each and every time I experience a quake, I am always shocked. Always preparing for the “big one.” So I was really happy to find this book to help me explain all of this with my own kids. I know they teach some things in class, however, having two small kids with anxiety meant I would have to address it in a different way. Things are Shaking was the answer to this very problem! I highly recommend reading it to your kids to talk about scary things such as earthquakes.
I love these books by this author. Especially when she gives you a treat with an activity you can do with your kids after reading the book. In this story we learn about bees and their importance. The author makes it clear that we don’t fear bees but we do need them. In the back of this book is detailed instructions on how to make a bee home for your yard with your littles. This is definitely worth the purchase. Your kids will love it.
Bees In Loretta’s Bonnet is the second book in the Loretta’s Insects series by Lois Wickstrom. It is an interesting, educational, and entertaining illustrated children’s storybook, with an engaging story that even has a project step-by-step guide to building a bee nest, to attract wild bees to your garden, at the end. This is a fun story, and we get to learn all about wild bees along the way. The story is cute, while inspiring children to learn while they read. I enjoyed reading the story with my grandson, but the illustrations weren’t up to the standard of most of her other books that we’ve read, so they didn’t hold his attention like others have. Still, an interesting read, though. Happy reading!

Another enjoyable story by this author. This author writes really fun stories for children. The stories are easy to read and I really think all children will enjoy them. This particular story was really interesting. It explored a child’s imagination which is always a good thing. This author’s stories allow children to explore their creativity and imagination.
Loretta is out getting firewood when she discovers a mysterious tube. After her mom explains that the tube is actually a leafcutter bee nest, she places it in the woodpile. Loretta waits and watches as the season changes to see if the bees will hatch.
I really enjoy Loretta’s stories. These are educational and have an activity in the back of the book. Great for children who like science.

There is always excitement on the nights when we have a Lois Wickstrom book to read in our house. And I think this one has to be one of our favourites. It had a slightly slower start than some of her others and normally that would cause my two children to lose interest straight away. However, the fact that they not only kept reading but were actively engaged is testament to how much they love this author! The story was fantastic, as always. It was engaging, lively and fun. We all seemed to connect with it and we have already read this book multiple times. My daughter is looking forward to when we have time to follow the craft instructions provided at the end. Yet another hit but a brilliant author. I can’t wait to see what is next.
Loretta is a very observant little girl. When she brought firewood into the house, she found a small tube between the logs. She took it back outside and waited to see what would happen next. What was that tube? Will Loretta know when and how to look out for signs of activity? This author has written another great story. What kid does not love bugs! This story also has a follow up project for the children to make. Anytime a craft can be made for a children’s book, you know you have a well written story. The pictures also made it easy for children to follow. This book is a must have for every child’s library.
What a wonderful, entertaining, and educational story this is. I have never been a fan of bees because I have been stung many times, but this book did provide me with knowledge to help appreciate bees and what they do for our environment. The author does such an excellent job teaching kids about bees and pollination. There are even instructions at the end of the book that tell how to make a bee nest to attract wild bees into your yard. Not only does this instruct children but it’s a great way for their parents to get involved in helping them learn. The illustrations were as amazing as all her books are. Please share this book with your kids.
We love Lois Wickstrom books in this house, there is always so much to learn from her books. Things are Shaking is no different. I love how this book got my kids imaginations going about what they would do if they had their own magic wands. These books always lead to conversations about how we would handle certain situations. This was a great story with great illustrations that my kids love! I can’t wait to see what we can read next by this author.
Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet is an okay children’s book. In the story, Loretta loses her bonnet, while looking for wood for the fireplace. When she was preparing the wood, she found a strange brown tube. Her mother explains that it was made by the bees, it was their nest where the mom lays her eggs. Loretta returned the nest outside so the bees would be able to hatch and find flowers. She found a lot of clues that the bees had hatched and were flying about. She wanted to find them so she went walking in the woods and she finds that bees have actually made a nest in her lost bonnet. She wanted her bonnet back but realized she shouldn’t mess with the bees and allowed them to keep it. When she got home. Her dad suggests they made a home for the bees in the yard and Loretta was happy because she wanted more bees. The book was cute if you like bees. I am not a bee person but I do love how the author teaches the reader about the different lives the insects may live – this one just happens to be about bees. I do also like that the author put in instructions for kids to make their own bee hives for their backyards. The best thing this author does is teach and make it a hands-on experience. However, I always feel there are pieces of the story missing when I read this author’s work.
I absolutely love Lois Wickstrom’s scientifically-based books. They are so informative yet she creatively and seamlessly weaves a story with the facts. I also enjoy the illustrations. They are unique and eccentric. It’s also neat how at the end Wickstrom provides readers instructions on creating their own paper tubes for bees. 100% recommend this book.
Caspian is back for another adventure in the Invisible Magic Wand Series. After showing off his wand, Caspian’s cousin wants one too! His grandpa gives her a wand and then an earthquake happens! Caspian, his cousin and his grandpa are left to help save themselves and those around them from the earthquake with the help of their wands. As always, this author’s books have a great storyline and bright pictures! I would highly recommend this book to any teacher or parents who wants to bring out the imagination in their child(ren).

I honestly had never heard of Leafcutter bees before this. I am impressed by the amount of things Ms, Wickstrom teaches everyone. My daughter really enjoyed the pictures and the craft at the end we may be trying this summer. This is a really good lesson and read.
I always enjoy spending a little time with Caspian. His adventures with his gifts from grandpa always seem like so much fun. This time his cousin join him and grandpa and finds that Caspian has the wand. The world around them begins to shake and they do all the can to reach safety. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories are great. Worth reading to your littles.
Things are moving and grooving in this children’s book! There are nice graphics and the food in the pictures look real and my grandson recognized the graphics. I read this to my 2 1/2 year old grandson and it held his attention through the whole story! He even made “whoa” sounds when it looked like everything was shaking around. Kid recommended and approved!
Loretta is picking up logs to bring in to place in the hearth when a mysterious tube falls out. Come to find out, Loretta has found a nest for leafcutter bees. Loretta is all excited and asks her mother what she should do. Loretta finds a safe place for the nest until the weather is warmer and the bees begin their work.
This book focuses on the science of bees and pollination. The end of the book has directions on how to make your own bee nest.
The bee on the front cover of this book almost looks 3D!! It’s super cool looking (at least it is on my Kindle!) This book would be great for a library in a school, homeschool, co-op, daycare, or a personal one! I love this author and the science subjects that she covers.

Very cute book. Was a tad slow starting but after the first couple pages it was very exciting! And the craft project at the end I will definitely be doing!
