Squall Line (The Inland Seas Series Book 1)Squall Line by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This author continues to enthrall me with every story she writes. Squall Line is another absolute treasure. Angst, passion, strong characters, gripping plot movement. War and Grace – two concepts and characters that are opposites in so many ways. I loved these characters and how masterfully McNamee wove these names into the character personality profiles. Just perfect.

This is a must read, whether you are a long standing follower of this author’s work or a newcomer. You won’t be disappointed.

Wild Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells – Review by Moriah Venable

Wild BastardWild Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wild Bastard is the third novel in the Dark Sparrow series by India Kells. This is my second novel by this author.

Kai is on a mission to stopping his father, who is not a nice guy. Izzy is suppose to help down Kai’s father’s business but she has some secrets of her own.

This is a story of redemption, betrayal, and revenge, and a sprinkle of love and it’s a great read with amazing characters.

I love series that can be read has a standalone but also see characters from previous novels. I don’t want to give anything away.

For lovers of suspenseful romance and a read that leave you on the edge of your seat, I recommend this novel and series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Drawing Bloodlines (The Princeton Allegiant Series Book 1) by Deborah Garland was the first book I have read by this author. I love vampire books and was excited to get to read this one. I found the book to be fun and exciting. It was a different take on vampires and I thought it was well done. I really enjoyed the characters and writing. At this point I would critique or say my thoughts on what could be better and I don’t really have any.I never saw that ending coming. I really wasn’t sure what I was suspecting but that was not it. So kudos Ms. Garland. Well done. 4 star rating.

Impact (A Twisted Hearts Love Story book 4)Impact by Autumn Sand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Twisted Hearts Love Story number 4 is Impact by Autumn Sand. Even though this is book 4 it can be a stand alone book. I like reading Autumn Sand books because of her characters and the world around them. This book is told in Manny point of view which is a little different for me. I enjoyed reading how Manny saw what was going on in the world around him. As it states in the title it is a Love Story, Manny has seen the love of his life, Zoe but he does not want to let her know as she is in love with him as well. Manny has a past and he does not want to put Zoe in any danger. Will Manny’s past keep him alone or will Zoe become apart of his life?

Drawing BloodlinesDrawing Bloodlines by Deborah Garland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Drawing Bloodlines is a new series for Deborah Garland. This is my first book from this author and what a story to start with her. Her characters are complex and personal. Alexander is a vampire who is an strong male who happens to be a professor as well. He is a century old and still learning his role and gifts of a vampire. Elizabeth is a teacher as well, who just happens to have blood that Alexander can not resist. In this world, Alexander is to report Elizabeth’s knowledge of vampires and he decides to handle it himself. That is where I am going to leave the story so there are no spoilers. I really enjoyed this world because it is also being built throughout the book. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Drawing Bloodlines (The Princeton Allegiant Series Book 1) by Deborah Garland
4 Stars

This is the first book that I have read from this author. I love vampire novels and Ms. Garland put some interesting twists in this story. Her vampires have some unique traits that I appreciated.

Elizabeth is a teacher trying to adjust to being a single mother. While at the doctor’s having a blood test done, she catches the doctor drinking her blood from a vial. Alexander is overwhelmed with the scent of her blood and drinks it. When he realizes that she saw him, he stalks her fully intending to wipe the incident from her mind.

The attraction between them is too strong and they enter into a relationship. It’s doomed from the start for vampires are not allowed to mate with humans. When a Commander chooses him to be her mate, Alexander desperately searches for a way out. He refuses to be stuck with someone he hates for all eternity. This leads to some interesting situations and an ending that you never see coming. What an ending! The author leaves enough open to be able to continue the series. I’m hoping the next book is about Loren and Julianna.

Impact (A Twisted Hearts Love Story book 4)Impact by Autumn Sand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Loving me doesn’t mean you trust me. I want all of you, Manuel. I want your secrets, because you know I would keep them. I want your pain, because you know I will swallow it and make it my own. I want your happiness because that’s when I love you most. I want your fears because we are supposed to fight those demons together. I want your love because that is what keeps me alive. Don’t you understand? I want it all, or nothing.” — Zoe

This story is the fourth book in the Twisted Hearts series and it so fits right in with the theme. I have read the other three books in this series but it has been a few years. I did not have to refresh my memory with the other books as there was little reference to the characters from those books. Would I recommend reading them? Definitely!

Impact is a story that bounces around from present day to the past. The characters remain the same through-out the story as Manny is telling it through his perspective. We see how each character “impacts” the others, both negatively and positively. This is Manny’s story. A story that has kept me turning the pages and hoping that Autumn Sand will continue not only this series but continue writing anything, because she is just that good!

Squall Line (The Inland Seas Series Book 1)Squall Line by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Squall Line is book The Inland Seas Series by Gwyn McNamee. I just adore the way this author weaves a story. Excitement at every turn of the page. Adventure every day. Dramatic adrenaline packed events at each chapter. Passion in every paragraph. Complex characters with intriguing personalities evident from the first words. Contentment in the whole, entire package.

War and Grace. They meet in extenuating circumstances, they endure each others company because they have to. They fall for one another because they have np choice. They are inevitably drawn to each other. They love with intensity, passion and desperation. Their love should not be. But it is. And I am so thankful they fell. A brilliant and captivating story that will enrapture you and bewitch you. 4 stars.

Squall Line by Gwyn McNamee is the first book in the Inland Seas series. This book is absolutely captivating and will sweep you off your feet!! This book for me was made entirely by the MC’s Grace and War. I couldn’t find a single thing about them that I didn’t like!! From the second I picked up the book I felt drawn to them. And even after j had finished reading I couldn’t stop thinking about them. I found myself going back and re-reading sections that had enticed me so much. Gwyn McNamee seriously knows how to write a good book. I loved that this one was different to other things I had read by her. It shows she has diversity as well as phenomenal writing skill. This is yet another 5* read from this author.

This is the second book I have read in this series, I enjoyed it just as much. This is a well written, creative story that left me turning pages and sitting on the edge of my seat a few times. Dr. Elizabeth Reed works in the ER. When a group of inmates start coming in with similar injuries, she starts to question the truth behind them. She is a strong character that is determined and is a no nonsense person. She made the story come to life for me, I highly recommend this book.

Temptation and Seduction by L.M. Mountford

5 out of 5 stars

Temptation and Seductions written by L.M. Mountford is a great tease and I loved it. We get to read five short stories that keeps you wanting to read more about the couples in these stories. Ms. Mountford introduces us to these unique couples and what they have to do to become couples. These stories are so short you could read this book in one sitting.

These short stories contain descriptions of sexual content, Violence, BDSM, and Paranormal.
Now I have to go and read Just Friends Book 1 because this story I loved the most out of all five stories.

I just loved reading these short stories and can’t wait to read them in their true books.
I highly recommend this book…

I loved this book! This is a little different for this author but it works for her. This is a creative, well written, engaging story that I couldn’t put down until the end. The characters are connectable and brought the story to life for me. War finds himself on Grace’s ship but is put in a situation that he has to take Grace hostage. They are opposites but do they have more in common than they realize? Their chemistry is off the charts and I can’t wait to read more from them.. A must read!

Cold Bastard (A Dark Sparrow Novel Book 2) by India Kells – Review by Stefanie Carney

Cold Bastard (Dark Sparrow #2)Cold Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was completely unable to put this book down. This could be read as a standalone book but it includes people from other books in this series so I was looking forward to another romp in this crazy world. Every one of these books that I read grips me more than the previous one and I feel as though I may be utterly addicted to them. There is something about the fast paced adventure in these stories that keeps you flipping the pages and before you know it, the book is done, you are left bereft and looking for your next fix. This one tugged a little more on my heart strings than Wild Bastard, probably because I could see a little bit of myself in Zoe and I like that I could relate to her. As my addiction to India Kells and her writing grows, I will certainly be diving into the rest of this series with full enthusiasm.

Wild Bastard: A Dark Sparrow Novel by India Kells – Review by Sheri Schrader

Wild BastardWild Bastard by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wild Bastard by India Kells is the third book in A Dark Sparrow series. This tells the story of Kai and Isabel. Kai is trying to take down his father’s business and in the process runs into his past. Isabel after breaking his heart in the past has become a strong woman who has a life and secrets of her own. Will the two find their happily ever after?
Like the other books in the series, this can be read as a standalone. I have enjoyed not only this one but the others as well. Characters overlap and it is nice to get Kai’s story. I enjoyed the characters and wanted to see everything work out for them. The problems they encounter are crazy at times but seem to bring them closer and in a better understanding of one another. I enjoyed this book and look forward to others from this author.

Temptation and Seduction by L.M. Mountford – Review by Karyn Taylor

Temptation and SeductionTemptation and Seduction by L.M. Mountford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Temptation and Seduction is a collection of 5 short sexy and erotic stories by L.M. Mountford. This collection has a bit of everything for the reader. There is BDSM, friends to lovers, a mafia princess, stepfather/stepdaughter, paranormal romance, sexual violence and a lot of lust.
The five stories are:
Just Once: A Friends To Lovers Romance
Valentine Misadventures
Playtime: Extra Credit
Stepdaddy’s Bad Girl
Sweet Temptations: The Babysitter.
My favourite of the 5 stories was Just Once. I am a sucker for a good friends to lovers romance. There is always so much angst and emotion. I loved that this short story is like a prequel as there is going to be more to this story. I really want to read more of Faye and Terry’s story.
These stories are short, to the point and many will leave you breathless. The author does not hold anything back. The sexual content can be quite explicit so this book is definitely for the 18+ audience. These stories are even raunchy enough to make the star of an adult entertainment website such as https://www.shemalehd.sex/ blush. There is also content in the stories that may act as a trigger to some readers but the author does give advance warning.
I thoroughly enjoyed this set of short stories and would be interested in reading more of this author’s work.

Impact (A Twisted Hearts Love Story book 4)Impact by Autumn Sand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This author and this series has a way of hooking you and not letting you go. It’s so easy to get sucked into Autumn Sand’s books and never want to leave.

This is book 4 in the Twisted Hearts series and it’s Manny’s book. I love how it goes back and forth between now and then in Manny’s life. You really get to see how hard Manny’s life has been and how he’s pulled himself out of a living situation that could’ve caused him an early death. Manny’s love for his special girl is definitely not something I’ve read before but their journey to their HEA was one that will stick with me for a long time. She’s smart and independent and Manny will do anything to protect her!

This is one breath taking series that I highly recommend!

Drawing Bloodlines (The Princeton Allegiant Series Book 1) by Deborah Garland – Review by Erin Wolf

Drawing BloodlinesDrawing Bloodlines by Deborah Garland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Drawing Bloodlines (The Princeton Allegiant Series Book 1) by Deborah Garland, 4 stars.

Elizabeth isn’t feeling too well after she’s had blood drawn at her doctor’s office. Feeling nauseated, she opens a door to what she thinks is the bathroom. Instead she finds the sexy doctor who just drew her blood and sees the unthinkable — he’s drinking her blood!!! Surely she is just hallucinating. This leads her learn that vampires are real. But can this sexy vampire fall for a woman like her? The answer appears to be yes, but the odds are against them that they will be able to make this relationship work. Can their feelings overcome all of the obstacles before them? What happens when danger comes knocking on their door?

This is a hot and steamy paranormal romance between a human and a vampire. To be honest, the beginning of the book shows the conflict with a human and a vampire being together. If you have read this genre before, you may have read similar. But the second half of this book is what really makes this story. There is plenty of action and things happening I can’t say I have read before. Without giving it away, the scientific side of things is spectacular. Alexander and Elizabeth are great characters — they both have their flaws and issues they bring into a relationship. This makes them relatable. The secondary characters are great too. We don’t see too much of them but my interest is piqued and I hope to read more about them in future books.

If you like your paranormal romance hot and steamy with some action thrown in, this book is for you.

Tainted Saint (The Hawke Family Book 5) by Gwyn McNamee

*This is part of a series and to fully understand everyone and the events happening, must start with book 1*

We finally get Saints story, i was so excited. He’s intrigued me from the beginning of this series, and I’ve waited patiently to see if he got a book. And this did NOT disappoint.
Saint is a bouncer and part of the security team for the Hawke family and they’re places of business. I knew he had a past that would explain how he got to where he is now, but it wasn’t exactly what I expected!
Caroline turns into a blabbering idiot when Saint is around so she doesn’t think he’s ever even noticed her.
Can one night change the course of her plan?

This series just gets better and better and that ending?! Did not see that coming at all.

Squall Line (The Inland Seas Series Book One) by Gwyn McNamee

I have read every book by this author, so far, and here’s a new series like nothing i’ve read before. When I think of pirates, its dirty old men who don’t know what a bath is, or of course the famous movie series. But these pirates are very different.
Warwick has a job to do to repay debts, never having to deal with more than he or his crew can handle, he doesn’t expect a fiery redhead to stand in his way.
She makes him break the rules, and surprises him at every turn.
I was not expecting how this story went or how it ended. I need the rest of this series like yesterday, i want to know more of this crew.
Great read, kept me hooked from beginning to end.

Rage (The Marcy Series, #1)Rage by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read this series out of order but even so I have thoroughly enjoyed the books that I have read however it was really nice to see where the story of Marcy started! Again as with the other books I have read by Ms Burson it was full of action and kept my interest from beginning to end. It was really interesting to see how the author has improved over the books, not that this one was bad, far from it, but you could see how her writing had moved on with each story.
I really like Marcy she is such a great character to read about. She is quite a complex character that you really do have to get to know and understand.
As I expected there were some great twists and turns and even though I have read later books in the series there were still some things that surprised me!!
I will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future.

Drawing Bloodlines was a fantastic 5 star read! I was completely hooked from beginning to end. This isn’t the first book that I have read by this author, I absolutely loved her Darling cove series so when I saw that she has a new series coming out that was different I was really excited to start it and I was not disappointed at all! I can already tell that this is going to be a fantastic series.
The characters in the story were amazing to read about! Alex was a hot vampire who I LOVED!! I really liked that he wasn’t what I expected, I kind of imagined him to be the normal vampire in a paranormal romance but he wasn’t so it was a pleasant surprise! Elizabeth was great too! I loved the two of them together; they had an amazing and intense chemistry!
I loved the storyline and all of the twists and turns! This is definitely a story that I would highly recommend! I am really excited to read the next book in this series!!!

Demon’s Angel: Satan’s Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #2 by Manda Mellett – Review by Naomi McDonald

Demon's Angel: Satan's Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #2Demon’s Angel: Satan’s Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #2 by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Demon’s Angel is the second book in the Satan’s Devils: Colorado Chapter series. It can be read as a standalone, however characters and events from other books in the Satan’s Devils series are mentioned.

I always love reading books by this author. The stories are engaging and get you sucked in right away. The characters face real world issues in a fictional setting. You should know that this particular story deals with women’s issues that may be a trigger for some readers. Something I thought was clever about this book is the way the title takes on a double meaning once you get into the story a bit.

One thing this story brings up is how quick people are to make judgments about the actions of a mother without having all of the facts. Moms have a lot of pressure on them just for the simple fact they are moms, it is so much harder when other people make judgments about their decisions without having all of the information.

There was one line in this book that really stood out to me: “Deep down though, I know I’ll make a better mother if I have something else to do than being a fulltime mom.” I like that this is written into the story to acknowledge that not all women are cut out to be, nor have the desire to be, a full-time mother. Some women need a job or a project in addition to being a mother, and that’s ok.

While Demon’s Angel isn’t one of my all-time favorites of the Satan’s Devils books, it is no less entertaining and is certainly full of adventure and action packed!

Series: Off Balance #3
Author: Lucia Franco
Genre: Sports Romance/Forbidden Romance
Release Date: May 2, 2019

Blurb
After Kova’s devastating betrayal, Adrianna must become her
own champion and place her Olympic dream ahead of all else. In doing so, she
ignores the warning signs as both the extreme training and unending heartbreak
begin to take their toll.
There is no atoning for what Kova did. The vow he made
cannot be undone. With boundaries set and lines clearly defined, Kova will now
have to be the one to relinquish control in order to regain Adrianna’s trust.
Though the dynamics shift between coach and gymnast, nothing
can prepare them for the agonizing truth that is to come. Fighting for a dream
becomes only half the battle when Adrianna’s fate is sealed, leaving them both
with their biggest challenge yet.
** Author note **
Much like a student-teacher novel, the Off Balance series is
a highly forbidden romance story between a gymnast and a coach. If you find
this genre of novels to be not to your liking in any way, shape, or form, this
series is not for you.
This novel is purely fictional and does not reflect on
real-life events. Gymnastics is a hands-on sport that involves many hours of
close contact with an instructor. My main goal was to focus not only on the
beauty of the sport in detail, but also what goes on behind closed doors and
how working with a coach for nearly forty hours a week can evolve into
something more. This story is meant to push you, to take you outside of your
comfort zone. I hope you take the plunge with an open mind before making
judgment.
The Off Balance series is intended only for readers 18
years of age and older. Reader discretion is advised.

Prologue
Juliet
Freedom. It was something I had seldom thought about…until
four years ago. I had taken for granted living life every day without looking
over my shoulder. Never feeling any real peace, a tiny part of me was always on
high alert. I feared that at any moment, I would be discovered. I had spent the
past four years trying to cope with intense, crippling anxiety, and everything
I had done was still no match against the nightmares that visited me often.
I thought fate would deal me a better hand. I believed I could
escape him. Now the effects of my mistakes had spread. I feared not only for my
life but also those of people I love who were put in danger because of me. I
was no longer free. Now, at twenty-seven years old, my time had run out.
My eyes began to open. I blinked slowly, trying to get them
to adjust to the darkness. I used my shoulder to wipe the dampness from my
face. Blackness cloaked the room, making it impossible to see anything around
me. The musty air blasting through the vent was frigid. My fingers and toes
were numb, making them hard to move. An intense headache competed with the
throbbing pain in my face. The tiniest bit of warmth against my back made me
aware of the body next to mine. I tried opening my mouth; the tape that had
sealed it shut had been removed. My lips felt swollen, and I tasted dried blood
on them. I nudged the body next to mine. I hoped that it was Paige, that they
hadn’t separated us.
A soft whisper came from my cracked lips. “Paigey…” I
croaked her childhood nickname.
Nothing.
“Paige, please answer me,” panicking, I whispered louder,
waiting for an answer.
A small groan escaped her as she moved just centimeters.
“Ana…” a low voice struggled to whisper back.
I let out the breath I was holding, relieved that hers was
the body next to mine. “Oh, Paige…” I leaned into her as close as I could, “I’m
so sorry you got dragged into this.” My voice hitched and my eyes welled, but
no tears came. Dehydration left nothing for my body to spare. We leaned into
each other. The friction caused my broken body to ache. “I will find a way to
get us out of here,” I promised her.
A door opened. It creaked loudly, breaking the silence.
Light streamed down the staircase. It was dim yet blinding in the blackness of
the basement. We both jumped and huddled our bodies even closer with our hands
tied behind our backs.
We stayed silent. The only sound came from the shoes that
clanked heavily down each step. The stairs moaned under the weight of the man.
A large shadow appeared, then the massive body that belonged to it. It was
him—the monster. The man with all the scars. The slight limp in his step gave
him away.
He turned on a small flashlight and aimed it around,
highlighting areas of the basement before finding us. The light so shocking
when it hit me, I squeezed my eyes shut. I could feel the tremors rolling off
Paige’s small body. God, please. Please
send someone to rescue us before it’s too late.
I had pushed away everyone
who cared; now there might be no one left who could save us.
With my eyes still closed I listened to the clicking of his
fancy shoes on the damp concrete as they got closer and closer. I braced myself
as the large body loomed over us.
Rage
Six months earlier…
I tucked my head down further behind the shield as I picked
up the pace. My bike pushed forward faster, anxiety building in my chest as I
passed the small road sign with the arrow: Sugar Maple 15 miles.
That little sign surged adrenaline through every part of my
body as I got closer to home. My bike sped through the warm night, covering the
distance as fast as possible. Miles of trees, bushes, and mountains were
blurred in my peripheral vision over the last five and a half hours until I
finally crossed Georgia from Tennessee.
The sound of my pipes cutting through the night was all that
filled my ears, the mountain air leaving a light mist on my partially exposed
face. I tried to stretch my back. I felt tight everywhere from not stopping.
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to grow up so I could leave this place. After
four long years of exile, I couldn’t get back fast enough.
It was Monday night—I was five days early. The idea of
surprising my brothers in the Stained Souls MC came to me last night when I
tossed and turned trying to sleep. Friday seemed too far away. At first light,
I packed my shit and left behind everything that couldn’t fit on my bike. I
knew my club brothers weren’t expecting me until the weekend so they could
throw me a huge homecoming bash. As much as that sounded great, I wanted some time
to reacquaint myself with my newly renovated hometown. Besides, I knew that the
party would leave me hungover for days, and that wasn’t how I wanted to start
my homecoming.
Last time I talked to Hawk, he said that the Stained Souls
were raking in cash with all the new people in town. The club owned several
buildings on the main strip, so naturally, they had done pretty well with the
renovations. I hadn’t decided, even with the influx of income, how I felt about
returning to a town full of strangers. I was once a well-known and feared man
in this town. Now I would be the stranger. The thought had my stomach turning.
My forearms tightened as the needle pushed further toward
one hundred on the desolate road. The blackness of night was the perfect
backdrop for the slideshow that was running in my head. All the people, places,
and friends I left behind…the good times with my brothers and the bad times
that destroyed my soul. I shouldn’t have wanted to go back. I should have
embraced my new life. But no matter how much darkness and anger Sugar Maple
triggered, it was still home.
I shook my head, clearing the thoughts. I focused on the
approaching glow of city lights that made the horizon over the mountain appear
bright compared to the inky sky that surrounded it. The May heat and humidity
created a haze blanketing the area.
I slowed my pace to almost a crawl just outside town. On the
hillside, the moon illuminated the bright white chapel and gave it an eerie
glow. It stood tall and menacing, overlooking the bridge into Sugar Maple. Its
angular windows, the way they looked down the hill to the town below, reminded
me of angry, judging eyes.
I tried to keep my eyes forward, but the small graveyard
pulled me to it. The decaying stones of the cemetery were almost as white as
the church. My eyes locked on a single headstone. I swallowed back the lump
that formed in my throat. Every fucking time I entered or left town, I was
forced to pass the painful reminder of what life took from me. I had said
goodbye to three people I loved standing under those tall maple trees, which
always seemed to mock me.

Marriage For One by Ella Maise – Release Blitz

Title: Marriage for One
Author: Ella Maise
Genre: Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: May 9, 2019
Blurb
Jack and I, we did everything backward. The day he lured me
into his office—which was also the first day we met—he proposed… You’d think a
guy who looked like him—a bit cold maybe, but still striking and very
unattainable—would only ask the love of his life to marry him, right? You’d
think he must be madly in love.
Nope. It was me he asked. A complete stranger who had never
even heard of him. A stranger who had been dumped by her fiancé only weeks
before. You’d think I’d laugh in his face, call him insane—and a few other
names—then walk away as quickly as possible. Well…I did all those things except
the walking away part.
It took him only minutes to talk me into a business
deal…erm, I mean marriage, and only days for us to officially tie the knot.
Happiest day of my life. Magical. Pop the champagne… Not. It was the worst day.
Jack Hawthorne was nothing like what I’d imagined for myself.

I blamed him for my lapse in judgment. I blamed his eyes, the ocean blue eyes
that looked straight into mine unapologetically, and that frown on his face I
had no idea I would become so fascinated with in time.
It wasn’t long after he said I was the biggest mistake of
his life that things started to change. No, he still didn’t talk much, but
anyone can string a few words together. His actions spoke the loudest to me.
And day after day my heart started to get a mind of its own.
One second he was no one. The next he became everything.
One second he was unattainable. The next he seemed to be completely mine.
One second I thought we were in love. The next it was still nothing but a lie.
After all, I was Rose and he was Jack. We were doomed from
the very beginning with those names. Did you expect anything else?

They say
opposites attract. I never believed that until I met Abby.
I was an
Ivy League student, the eldest son of an affluent family, living a life of
luxury and rubbing elbows with D.C.’s elite. Sounds great, right? Too bad
prestige comes with a price.
When the
expectations became too much, I decided to escape to the hills of West Virginia
with my best friend for a summer of fun, some R & R and a little white
water rafting. I wanted to lose myself in the outdoors, but instead found Abby.
A petite waitress and all around spitfire, she knocked me off my game, making me
want more than the casual, no strings attached relationships I was used to.
To me,
she’s not just another summer fling. She’s something that could last.

Excerpt
Once inside, we head for the bar. The floor beneath my feet vibrates with the heavy bass thumping through the sound system. Jacob turns to me, and though I can see his lips moving, I can’t hear what he says over the din of too loud music blasting from the speakers.

“What?” I yell back.
He leans down, his mouth a mere inch from my ear, and I breathe in his intoxicating smell. I close my eyes and bask in his heady, masculine scent and the sound of his smooth, deep voice. Our bodies are so close, but not quite touching. Every cell in my body is on high alert, anticipation of physical contact consuming my senses.
“So, how about that shot of whiskey?” he asks with the sexy timbre that makes my stomach clench and my pulse accelerate.
“That sounds great.” I’m going to need some liquid courage for this.
Jacob orders me a shot of Crown and I immediately down it in one gulp, earning a chuckle from him. I’m going to need another just to still my nerves.
“Maybe I should’ve gotten you a double.”
I swallow nervously and straighten my shoulders. Here goes nothing. “Maybe you should have,” I reply, attempting a seductive tone.
Jacob grins deviously at my sassy response and his eyes darken with desire. Heat floods my lower belly and between my thighs. He hasn’t even touched me yet, and already my body is responding to him. I have never felt this way about a guy before. I’m no virgin, but desire this strong is uncharted territory for me.
Jacob turns to the bartender and orders me another shot, a double this time, and a beer for himself. I drain my glass in two big gulps, the smooth liquid going down easier than the cheap whiskey I usually drink. Jacob watches me over the brim of his bottle, his lips curling up on each side as he takes a swig. I reluctantly pull my eyes from his when I feel someone grab my arm.
“I wanna dance.” Tiffany has a cup filled with amber liquid. She’s drank most of it and I hear Luke ordering another from the bartender. I hope she doesn’t get so drunk tonight that we have to carry her out. It wouldn’t be the first time, and it certainly won’t be the last. She drains the rest of her drink and discards her cup before Luke hands her a new one.
“Oh, come on, dancing queen. Let’s hit the floor,” I tell her. She squeals, bouncing on the balls of her feet before grabbing me by the hand and pulling me onto the dance floor. I’m already starting to feel the effects of the whiskey I consumed just a few moments ago. My mind and body relax a little as warmth from the liquor spreads through my veins. I begin to move to the music, letting the rhythm guide the sway of my hips and the motion of my arms. Tonight, the DJ is playing mostly pop and hip-hop, the best kind of music to dance to.
Tiff and I dance for a couple of songs as she sips her drink. At the end of the second song, I glance over my shoulder to find the guys leaned up against the bar watching us, a bottle of beer in each of their hands. Jacob’s eyes burn into mine. He’s watching me intently and I can tell he likes what he sees. His intense observation of my body moving to the music sends a shiver up my spine. I wonder what his hands would feel like grasping my hips, in my hair, all over me. I tear my gaze away from him and turn to Tiff when she yells my name.
“I need another drink. And so do you,” she insists, pointing her finger into my chest. “Come on.” Once again, she grabs my hand and leads me where she wants me to go.
“Need another drink, beautiful?” Luke asks her, his self-assured grin never leaving his face.
“Why, yes I do. Thanks, handsome.” I’m just buzzed enough that this interaction makes me giggle. Tiff turns to glare at me, but her spirits are instantly lifted when Luke hands her another Long Island.
“Wow, that was fast,” she exclaims.
“I went ahead and ordered it when you started back this way. You looked like you needed a refreshment.” His cocky smirk is almost charming. Almost.
“Awwwww, you’re so thoughtful,” Tiff draws out, pressing herself up against his chest. Gag! She knows he’s trying to run his game on her, and she’s encouraging him. Luke may be a player, but he just met the coach.
“You want another shot of Crown?” Jacob’s question is a welcome distraction from these two and their very public displays of affection.
“Yeah,” I reply. “Oh, and just a single this time.” I’ll eventually have to drive Tiff and myself home, so I need to take it easy on the booze. Besides, I haven’t eaten in over eight hours, and this top-shelf liquor is working fast. When he hands me my drink a few minutes later, I thank him and down the potent elixir in one gulp. He watches me with an intensity in those icy blue eyes that makes me feel naked and vulnerable. It’s an unsettling feeling, but I kind of like it.
“I’m ready to dance again. Let’s go.” Tiff grabs my hand and leads me back to the dance floor. There are hot, writhing bodies everywhere, and we have to shoulder our way through the crowd to make it back to our spot.
We’re three songs in this time when I feel hands on each side of my waist. I start to turn around to see which one of these assholes is grabbing me without invitation when he leans in and speaks into my ear.
“Abby,” he breathes my name. This one word breaks my resolve to be a good girl and not get involved with this handsome stranger. I close my eyes and lean into him. I hear his quick intake of breath before his body molds to fit mine, the sculpted muscles of his chest and abdomen pressing against my back. He trails his fingers up my arm, leaving a searing path of heat in their wake. I can’t suppress the shudder that moves through my body as a result. I am lost to his touch and all I can hope is that it never ends.
