Perfectly Played by Holly Kerr – Review by Michelle Austin

Perfectly PlayedPerfectly Played by Holly Kerr
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Perfectly Played by Holly Kerr was a good 4 star read.
Once I started, the pages flew by. This is a second chance romance.
This is Flora and Dean’s story.

These two literally run into each other in Las Vegas after they both have failed relationships. She is a runaway bride and he was dumped by his girlfriend. It’s an instant connection between them. Fate steps in and they end up seeing each other again at Flora’s flower shop.

They decide to be friends and find they have a love of sports in common, he played baseball and she played softball. As they spend more time together the closer they become.

Will they let their walls down and let each other in? Will they have a HEA?

Overall I really enjoyed this book. All of the secondary characters were great. The emotions are all over the place as these two try and figure things out. We do get dual POV which I really like. I wouldn’t mind seeing more from some of the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.

MaddJax Series, Boxed Series Set, Book One & Book TwoMaddJax Series, Boxed Series Set, Book One & Book Two by Deborah Ann
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

MaddJax Series, Boxed Series Set (Book 1 & 2) was a great 5 star read.
I was excited to read these first two books in the series. I was pulled right in and didn’t want to stop until I was done.

Maddison and Jaxon had a steamy encounter when they were young, then Jaxon left town breaking her heart. When Jaxon’s dad weds Maddison’s step sister, it causes them to be step-siblings which adds a twist to the story. Now he’s back in her life acting like nothing happened working as co-CEO to the family business and wants her back. He is determined to show her that he’s back for good and will never hurt her again.

Will she let her walls down and let him back in? Can they have a HEA?

Of course this is somewhat of a taboo relationship which makes it a little more interesting.
I loved both of these characters. Maddison is stubborn, smart and pretty. Jaxon is a hot alpha, a charmer and very confident in himself. My emotions were all over the place. There were several up and down moments. If you’re looking for a great second chance romance, this is the series for you.

We start during a hurricane where we meet Val and Karl and see that things are not perfect for them. We bounce from past to present with Val. She has visions of Iceland and starts to write a story that spans a thousand years. Val loses herself in her story to get away from her troubles at home.

All of the characters were great. The detail was amazing and my emotions were all over the place. She isn’t a happy woman and has her doubts about how her life will be.

The more time she spends with Elias she starts to see and feel things. His home is also very mysterious and magical.

Will Elias be able to help Margaret?

Overall I really enjoyed this read, there are twists and turns that add great elements to the story. The secondary characters were great. I really liked both Margaret and Elias. This is Danny Boy and Amelia’s story.

Amelia had struggled with her feelings for Danny Boy, being that he was a patient of hers. But she decides to come to the United States to try and make things work with Danny Boy, although he’s not sure if he can.

Danny is a recovering addict who has laid out his past to Amelia, he can’t help but wonder if he’s good enough for her. Can they really make it work? Can he lower his walls and let her in?

There were so many emotional pieces in this book, make sure you have kleenex. We get lots of twist and turns. They will be pushed to make some hard choices in order to move forward. I was hoping that these two would get it figured out and I wasn’t disappointed. I have to say I think they are one of my favorite couples in the series. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Edge of the Storm was a great 5 star read and book two in the Silent Secrets series by Lisette Kristensen.

She hit like a hammer, and was deadly like a rifle.

I love Blackbird (Sloane), she is an extremely strong character and knows how to take care of things. We continue with her story and as she finishes her training she is paired up with Halo.

We get a little glimpse at Adam, who Sloane has developed a little crush on during her training. But fraternization is forbidden.

Blackbird and Halo end up in Rome, when something goes wrong and Halo goes missing Blackbird is part of the search team. We get a lot of non stop action and edge of your seat moments. Can Blackbird and her team find Halo before it’s too late? Can they stop the terrorists plans?

The sad thing about betrayal, it never comes from the enemy.

Overall this was a thrilling read. This cannot be read as a stand alone or you will be completely lost. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. Once I got started I couldn’t stop until I was done, and I’m impatiently waiting for the next book in the series. Thank you Lisette for another great read.

This is War and Grace’s story and I was pulled in right from the beginning. This is a modern pirate romance.

Grace was pushing War for answers to her questions and learned more about him. She started to see a different side to him. We do get some steamy moments from these two as well. Drawing Bloodlines was a great 5 star read and book one in The Princeton Allegiant series.
This is my first read from Deborah Garland and I loved it. I’ve gotten away from the vampire reads but Deborah has pulled me back into the genre with this book.

We start with Elizabeth at the OBGYN, and I had so many LOL moments with her thoughts. When she meets Dr. Alexander Manning during her blood draw, she has even more thoughts that seem to cause him to react in certain ways. After the draw she is a little dizzy and finds herself walking into a room and witnessing something that can’t be right, she must have been hallucinating, or was she?

Alexander was having a hard time resisting Elizabeth. Her scent was drawing him in and he had to taste her blood. Now he has a problem that he needs to figure out how to fix before it’s too late. When he goes to her home he encounters something he didn’t expect from her, she wanted him even after what she saw.

These two had such a hot and steamy connection. Things take some big twists when Alexander is ordered to mate with the new commander. But he also has some secrets of his own. Can Alexander and Elizabeth get a HEA?

Demon is the president for Satan’s Devils MC. While looking at some new locations for tattoo shops, Demon sees a woman walk by he hasn’t seen in years, someone he had promised to watch over and had failed, Violet. And life has dealt her a terrible hand with her family, she has lost her brother, dad and her mom is deteriorating with dementia. Will she be able to keep her son safe? Wild Heart (Hollywood Hearts, #4)Wild Heart by Belinda Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wild Heart was an emotional 5 star read and book four in the Hollywood Hearts series.

Faith decides to take a break from acting and goes to her grandmother’s home in Sonoma Valley. This is where she sees a man she hasn’t talked to in 20 years, someone who brings lots of feelings back for her.

Cole Cooper was someone who played a big part in Faith’s teenage years. They were always together. While she was gone to Hollywood he would check in on her Grandmother and visit with her. He was a stuntman who has taken a break from the scene to run his ranch and winery.

Cole and Faith end up spending time together, she also meets someone important to Cole that really threw her off. When Cole and Faith find themselves being offered an opportunity to work on a film together, things get interesting from here.

My eyes must have been panicked because he leaned in and whispered, “I won’t let you fall.” Stupid man. It was too late for that. I’d fallen for him at the age of seventeen.

We get danger, teary eyed moments, steamy moments and unexpected twist and turns. I loved all of the secondary characters and would love to see more from some of them. I was very happy with the ending, although I was a little nervous thinking it wasn’t going the way I wanted it to. Overall I loved this book and am loving this series. Temptation and SeductionTemptation and Seduction by L.M. Mountford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Temptation and Seduction was a steamy 5+ star read. This was a great compilation of hot and steamy short stories.

Just Once is a friends to lovers read.
Faye and Terry grew up together, they were close friends throughout their childhood. When Faye finally decides to make the first move things take a steamy twist. I have to say that I would love to read more on these two, I didn’t like the way it ended, I need more.

Valentine Misadventure
Sophie and her bodyguard are at a club enjoying themselves, they have taken things further into a steamy relationship. When her father’s men show up things take a scary twist, can they have a good Valentines day?

Play Time
James is a college student who meets a very sexy woman who isn’t shy about what she wants from him. After he goes home with her, things take a very interesting twist.

Stepdaddy’s Bad Girl
This story had me cringing at times. Eric comes across to me as a dirtbag arrogant stepfather. When he hears his step daughter trying to sneak out he decides to teach her a lesson. This is a very dark and twisted read that may have triggers for some. I have to say I love the dark and taboo but this was violent to an extent that I was a little uncomfortable.

Sweet Temptations
Richard encounters a very flirty babysitter. She is very straightforward about what she wants from him, and he can’t stop fantasizing about her. Can he resist or will he break his vows?

Sweet Temptation (The Boss’s Daughter)
Richard is once again being tempted, this time by his Boss’s daughter. Will he stay strong or will he give into temptation?

I overall really enjoyed these short stories, I”m not sure I would classify it as erotica. I wouldn’t mind reading more from some of these characters. I would like some back story to learn more and others moving forward. I will warn that some of the scenes can get graphic and I would recommend 18+ readers.

Secure Desire was a 5+ star read and A Chase Group Novel.
All I can say is wow, I was pulled in right from the beginning.

Cassie is an FBI agent who has had a couple of huge tragedies in her life. She has closed herself off from any type of relationship, she’s damaged.
Ian Chase met Cassie six years prior and was smitten with her, seeing her again now has brought the feelings back and he starts to pursue her. Ian is an ex-Navy Seal who owns his own successful private security team and I might add is extremely hot.

Cassie remembers meeting Ian but had suffered a traumatic event that has caused her to shut down and have panic attacks. She’s afraid to get close to anyone for fear of rejection.

You won’t like me once you know what I am – Cassie

There is a huge twist at a charity event that had my emotions all over the place. I will warn it does get graphic and had me cringing at times. My heart went out to Cassie and everything that she went through. I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time waiting to see what was coming next. Can Ian and his team keep Cassie safe? Will Cassie finally let Ian into her heart?

There is so much more to this read. I loved all of the characters, they all added great elements to the story. Some I didn’t care for, some I loved. I can’t wait to see more from several of them. Blinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift: Book One (Silent Secrets) by Lisette Kristensen was a good 4 star read.

I was pulled in right from the beginning, Sloane’s husband has turned on the family which means they must die. Sloane had no idea her husband was going to do what he did and she refused to go into protective custody, so she runs. She ends up going to an old friend for help, who sends her to a very unexpected place. I definitely did not see this piece coming and I’m still not sure where some of it connects, but I will say there were some mighty steamy scenes.

Never attract attention to yourself. Never give them anything to remember you by.

As we move more into the story, Sloane learns exactly what is expected of her and becomes one heck of a tough girl. This is a short read that includes two of the books from the series. There were several great characters. The story did seem to move really fast at times and I would have liked to have seen a little more of the Chateau Imperium and Bettino, overall I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more from this author and series.

This is a contemporary romance that pulled me right in.

Emery had a not so great past of getting hurt so she was guarded. She also has a secret that she hopes will stay hidden, but will it?
Jackson has a playboy rep and when he meets Emery he is pulled in by her, he really liked her and was great at trying to get through her walls.

Things take an interesting twist when both of their pasts make an appearance. Can they have a HEA?

We get some very steamy moments along with some unexpected twist and turns. I really liked Emery and Jackson, you could feel their chemistry coming off the pages. Little Miss Eyes of Blue was a good four star read and the prequel to The Woman America Loves a Latte. We go back to Vee’s childhood to learn about where she came from and what she dealt with growing up.

My emotions were all over the place. We get a glimpse into how Vee’s parents met and fell in love. And what happened that caused things to fall apart for them. We continue to move forward as Vee grows up, seeing some heart wrenching things happen to her. All I can say is her parents were terrible and only thought about themselves.

There is so much more to this story. Overall I liked this story, it gave me a glimpse into why Vee is the way she is today. Broken Pieces was an emotional four star read.
This is my first read by Judith B. Pinkard and her debut as well.
This is a heartbreaking biographical novel.

This is a story that really makes you think about life choices. Helen and Ernest are in a life altering accident with there friends and baby Judy. This is where Helen’s life spiraled out of control with addiction and coping.

We all have a story to tell, and we all suffer in various ways. However, the ability to use pain
to help others is our duty-a transcendent obligation.

Judy’s story was familiar in some ways that I could relate slightly. There were other times my heart went out to her. There are some shocking twist and turns. Hate to Love You was a good 4 star read and book one in the Baker’s Bunch series.

Samantha’s world has been turned upside down. Her brother is in the hospital and she has a secret that could really hurt people she loves. When Cole shows up to comfort her and take her to the hospital things take a heated turn. Cole quickly puts a stop to it, knowing that Samantha is forbidden, she is his best friend’s sister.

Samantha has had a crush on Cole for years. Cole has also noticed Samantha, but her brother has pretty much threatened him and told him hands off. With emotions running high and the heat between them, can they deny their feelings? Can they possibly get a HEA?

I overall enjoyed this read but I had some very high frustration levels with Sam. I had to keep telling myself she’s only 17. There is a lot of misinterpretations and misunderstandings, that add to the drama. There is also a learning piece, don’t always believe what you see and get the real story from those involved. The secondary characters were good and added a great element to the story. I actually would like to see more from these two and look forward to reading more from this series.

Next Door Knight was a good 4 star read and book two in the Man’s Best Friend series.
This is Kerry and Caleb’s story.

Kerry has her father living with her temporarily while he heals from two broken legs. When her dog runs off she ends up meeting her new neighbor Caleb who happened to find Willow.

Caleb is currently on medical leave from the air force and is having a hard time coping with things. When Kerry asks him to sit with her dad while she is at work he agrees. Willow is starting to grow on Caleb. He suffered a loss during the ambush he was in and being around Willow is giving him comfort.

I really loved Willow, she made me think about my fur babies. And when Kerry would take her to visit the veterans it really tugged at my heart strings, such great therapy. I really enjoyed this read and had so many different emotions while reading. Willow brings these two together to help them heal and find love. Can these two have a HEA?

The Woman America Loves a Latte by Holly Tierney-Bedord – Review by Michelle Austin

The Woman America Loves a LatteThe Woman America Loves a Latte by Holly Tierney-Bedord
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Woman America Loves a Latte was a fun 4 star read.
This is Veloura’s story and I was pulled in right from the beginning.

With a not so great childhood and than a relationship that took a scary turn Veloura (Vee) is trying to move forward. Her best friend Suzie helps her apply for a dream job that would take her on a cross country tour. Going out on the road will also get her away from her angry ex.

But what will happen when her past comes back to haunt her?

There are so many twist and turns. I really liked all of the secondary characters, they all added a a great element to the story. I love stories that have me guessing on who is behind certain things, and this one delivered on that, I was shocked at the twist in the end. The author does a great job with the detail in the story and there are several POV’s in the story as well. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Surviving Valencia by Holly Tierney-Bedord – Review by Michelle Austin

Surviving ValenciaSurviving Valencia by Holly Tierney-Bedord
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surviving Valencia was an emotional 5 star read.
This was my first read from this author. She pulled me right in with her writing.

We jump from past to present as we learn about Valencia’s past growing up with her siblings. She is now happily married to Adrian trying to move on with her life.

Growing up Val’s parents were always falling all over her siblings and treating her like a nobody. They were the popular kids in high school and could do no wrong. Your heart broke for the things this poor girl went through.

Things take some interesting twists when Adrian gets a mysterious letter in the mail. She’s not sure if she should confront him with what she finds or if she’s misinterpreting the contents. Are things as great as they appear to be in their marriage?

There is so much more that goes on in this great read. There are several twists and turns. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. I despised Valencia’s parents, they were horrible. Overall I really enjoyed this read, I was pulled in by the story, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see my home town mentioned as well, considering we are in a rural area of Wisconsin. I look forward to reading more from this author. 1-click and get started today.

Me and Cinderella (The Dirty Rooster Book 2) by Kelly Mooney – Review by Michelle Austin

Me and Cinderella (The Dirty Rooster #2)Me and Cinderella by Kelly Mooney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Me and Cinderella was a great 5 star read and book two in The Dirty Rooster series.
I loved this story so much, once I started I couldn’t put it down. It was a late night (early morning for me)

Eli has returned home for a few weeks because his dad is going to be released from prison soon. He wants to help his little brother and possibly his mother. What he didn’t prepare for was Remy living with his sister Shea. Remy is the woman he left behind nine years ago, she is his sisters best friend. Remy is the rich girl he wasn’t good enough for, so he thought. She has turned into a very beautiful woman and has sparked something in him.

She was downright the sweetest girl I knew, but she was always going to be Cinderella to me. She was the delicate flower I spent years protecting, and I ended up being the one who crushed her.

Remy has her own drama going on and when Eli finds her in his room he is shocked. He does a great job of supporting her and they end up getting even closer. We get some very hot and steamy moments from them. What will happen when Eli leaves in a few weeks? Will he stay or will he ask her to join him? Can they have a HEA?

I loved these two so much and all of the secondary characters were great. I loved his brother and sister but despised Remy’s father. I had near heart failure when there was a huge twist that left me in tears. We do get a well deserved HEA with a great epilogue. I look forward to reading more from this series and I wouldn’t mind seeing more from Remy and Eli.

Fortitude by Carrie Dalby – Review by Michelle Austin

FortitudeFortitude by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fortitude was a great 5 star read. This is a historical romance set during the Spanish-American war.

This is Claire’s story and what she goes through due to her choices. Claire was a brave, independent and strong woman who stood up for what she believed in. She is a nurse for the Buffalo soldiers, caring for them and helping them recover. When things take a twist, she finds herself caught up in racial issues.

Carrie Dalby continues to pull me in with her writing. I really enjoyed this book, there was so much going on. My emotions were all over the place. At times it was hard to read some of the racial parts. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. There were several twist and turns. If you’re looking for a good read that will tug at your emotional strings this is the one for you. 1-click and get started today.
