Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn – Review by Michelle Austin

Luke (Dark Water Security #1)Luke by Madison Quinn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Luke was a great 5 star read and book one of the Dark Water Security.

We start the story with Luke at a young age being tormented and beaten. If he doesn’t win fights his beatings get worse. My heart broke for what he went through. When his tormentor doesn’t think the beatings are enough he brings in someone else that will be beaten in his place. This is when he meets Em. They develop a close friendship and love for each other.

What if I’m tired of surviving?

After their escape we jump ahead a few years. Luke is now a partner in Dark Water Security. He thinks about Em all the time, wondering where she is, if she has a family, etc.. When he meets a friend of his partner that will be assisting in some cases, he is taken back to memories of Em. Could she be his Emily? Can they find the love they once had?

Emily was a fighter just as much as Luke was, they were meant to be brought together to help each other get through this terrible ordeal. Both of them used their experience to help others instead of going down a dark hole. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. I will warn that there are some scenes that may be triggers for some. Madison Quinn does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I can’t wait to read more from this series.

Eight Steps: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Taylor Sullivan – Review by Michelle Austin

Eight Steps to Alpha (Nerdy by Nature, #1)Eight Steps to Alpha by Taylor Sullivan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Eight Steps to Alpha was a fun 4 star read.
This is a good friends to lovers romance.

Elli wants a certain someone to notice him, so he asks his best friend Fe to help him. He wants to be just like the men in the books Fe reads, an alpha. They have a month to get him ready, will they be successful? Can he get the girl he wants?

I’m tired of being the nice guy. I want to be that guy. The guy they have fantasies about. Just once. Elli

Fe creates a list of steps for Elli to complete. I had so many LOL moments as these two went through the steps. Something else starts to happen as well, they are starting to feel a connection that is drawing them even closer. Will they realize the connection before it’s too late?

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I really liked both Elli and Fe, the secondary characters were good also. Taylor Sullivan does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. Watching the friendship grow through the story was great, you felt like you were right there with them. I look forward to reading more from Taylor.

Surviving Grace: Book Five ( Surviving Series)Surviving Grace: Book Five by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surviving Grace was an emotional 5 star read and book five in the Surviving Series.
This is such a great must read series, I was sad to see it coming to an end.

I needed closure, somehow to erase the darkness from my past.

Grace is working on getting over her trauma, she is taking one day at a time. It’s not easy for her but she’s working on it. When things go in a different direction with Elijah, Will takes his chances with Grace. He has had feelings for her but was holding back how he felt, until now. I really liked Will he was so loving and understanding, he is perfect for Grace.

My emotions were all over the place with this book but I was so happy to see Grace get her HEA. There are some twist and turns, and some betrayal that adds a great element to the story. All of the secondary characters were great. Virginia Wine does a great job of pulling you right in with her writing. Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone, but I suggest reading them in order.

Movie Star (21st Century Courtesan Book 2) by Pamela DuMond – Review by Michelle Austin

Movie Star (21st Century Courtesan, #2)Movie Star by Pamela DuMond
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Movie Star was a great 5 star read and book two in the 21st Century Courtesan series.

Evie is empathic, men hire her to help them heal. She is heading to LA to help Jake Keller, a very hot troubled movie star. The night before she leaves she discovers her house has been broken into. And she has gotten another letter. Has her stalker returned?

Healing broken men is filthy, grueling work, which is why it’s ironic that on the outside I look immaculate.

Jake has some secrets that someone wants to keep buried. Will Evie be able to help Jake or will his secret stay buried?

As they spend time together Evie and Jake get close, and lets just say they had some very steamy scenes. There is also an unexpected twist, someone that Evie hadn’t seen in a couple of years shows up.

Be prepared for so much more in this story. I love Evie, she had me lol at times with things she would say or think. The secondary characters were great. Once I started I couldn’t put it down, I finished it pretty quickly. Pamela DuMond will have your head spinning with the things going on. I suggest reading book one first. I look forward to reading more in this series.

The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters, #2)The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Perfect Duchess was a good 4 star read.
This is Andrew and Clara’s story.

We start out at Andrew’s birthday party where he sees Lady Clara, she has been the only one that has gotten his attention in the past few years. When he searches her out for a dance he finds her being insulted by one of his guests, so he quickly rescues her.

Lady Clara knew she was taking a chance by going to the party. People believe she was involved in her sister leaving Andrew at the altar. The insults that she took were terrible, but she held her own and gave it right back.

If they think they can chase me away, they are severely mistaken -Lady Clara

When Andrew starts to court Lady Clara, things get even more interesting. When Clara finds out that she is in danger from her own brother, Andrew offers her a solution. Will she take it?

All of the secondary characters were great. There are some twists and turns and secrets revealed. We do get a HEA but it was definitely not an easy journey. If you’re looking for a good historical read you will like this one. Erica Taylor does a great job of pulling you in with her writing.

The Light at DawnThe Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Light at Dawn was a heart wrenching and emotional 5+ star read.

I was pulled right in from the beginning. Angelia and her family go through a tragedy that no family ever wants to experience (Ugly cry moments started instantly). We watch her world come crumbling down around her. We jump ahead five years Angelia is now a single mom who is traveling around and speaking on gun violence.

Mark see’s Angelia at a bar and quickly gets pulled in by her. They end up having drinks and they discover they are both on opposite sides of the right to bare arms. Angelia quickly leaves but can’t get Mark out of her mind. A little time passes and things take a tragic turn for Mark and once again my ugly cry came out. Angelia reaches out to Mark about the tragedy she doesn’t realize it had affected his family directly, her message came at the right time for Mark.

Can these two help heal each other? Can they have a HEA?

There is so much more to this very emotional read. There are things that make you really think about your views on this serious subject and see both sides of the spectrum. These two came together in an unexpected way and helped each other through. I loved the ending, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Be prepared for some twists and turns, K. L. Montgomery does a great job of throwing some very unexpected things in to make the book even better. All of the secondary characters were great, I actually would love to see more from this couple and extended family. A MUST read for sure, have the kleenex handy.

Hard as Steel: Book four (Hard as Steel: Book four by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hard as Steel was a great 5 star read and book four in the Surviving Series.

I was pulled in right from the beginning, my heart when out to the poor girl that Steel finds. He calls in Nick to help. They call the mystery girl Grace for now until they can find out who she is.
The things this poor girl endured just breaks your heart.

What story could be told from my injuries, in some twisted way the cuts and bruises may indeed be my salvation.

Steel works for PI Securities and is ex military. Nichole (Nick) is an FBI agent. Nick and Steel work together to try and find out where Grace came from and who was behind all of the abuse.
Steel and Nick also have quite the attraction between them. They are both really strong characters but when they finally give into their attraction we get some very hot and steamy moments.

Will Steel and Nick find out who hurt Grace?

There is romance, suspense and so much more. Be prepared for some twists and turns, I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going on. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caught in Make-Believe was a great 5 star read and book three in the Caught Series.
I have been reading this series from the start and I was really excited to read this next book in the series.

We meet Samantha first, she runs her own bakery and was recently engaged and then her fiance decided to disappear for a week. When he show’s back up with another woman she sends him on his way, needless to say she is very unlucky in relationships and has no desire to start another one.

In the four years she lived here, she’d gone from one loser relationship to another.

Jace is an investigative writer and has returned home to Angel Beach, but for how long?
Samantha meets Jace when he comes into her bakery. Something about him draws her in and gets her attention. He’s standoffish and rude, but she may have discovered a secret of his. Jace was intrigued by Samantha, and encouraged conversation with her.

Jace and Samantha start growing closer, I enjoyed the bantering between them. They were clearly meant for each other. Overall this was a great read. I loved the connection the characters had and the suspense with a touch of danger added a great element to the story. All the secondary characters were great and Martin was adorable. We meet Susanna who has decided to pursue something with Lord Riverton since no one seems to be showing interest in marrying her, no thanks to her brothers. She thinks he’s the only one, until she meets Lord Westcott, could there be something there with him?

Lord Westcott (Ian) meets Susanna while walking through the park, after seeing who she is with he decides to get vengeance against her suitor. Ian tries to warn Susanna away from Lord Riverton, will it work? Will he end up falling for her?

Susanna was great, although I think she always got the short end of the stick when it came to her brothers. I didn’t like how they treated her. I really wanted her to find someone that would sweep her off her feet. The secondary characters were great and I look forward to reading more from them. I loved book one and was excited to get my hands on this one.

Tallie meets Tom when she goes to deliver some paperwork to Clay. She recognizes him as one of her favorite bull riders, which affected Tom in a negative way and brought back memories of not being able to bull ride anymore.

Tom suffered severe injuries that cost him his riding career. He also has suffered a heart break that he’s trying to get past, and when he gets some shocking news his world is turned upside down. When he turns to Tallie for help they end up growing closer.

When Tallie gets some disturbing news herself she’s ready to run. She confides in Tom who offers to help her. Can he keep Tallie and her son Cody safe?

This story had so many emotional levels, both Tom and Tallie had their own issues that brought them together. Having each other really helped them work through things. Rainy Day Lovers (The Rocklyns Book 3)Rainy Day Lovers by Alicia Street
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rainy Day Lovers was a good 4 star read.
This is my first read from Alicia Street and I really enjoyed it.

Raina is a hoot of a character. She is very bossy and strong willed. We start with her seeing a homeless teen being bullied and she protects him, feeds him and gives him some advice in hopes that he will be ok.

We jump ahead a few years. Raina meets Roman at her sister’s wedding, she is instantly attracted to him but he always seems to brush her off. When she finally gets him on a date things get interesting. Roman has a secret, how will Raina react when she learns the truth?

I loved Raina and her blunt straight forwardness, she would call Roman out on things and wouldn’t let him shutdown. Roman was all over the place, at times he was strong and other times he was a mess. We get alternating POV which I loved so I could see both of their thoughts. The secondary characters were great. I really liked the ending and the epilogue leads you into the next book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

We start where Juniper Smoke leaves off. I was so excited to finish Kyle and Junipers story and get some answers to questions.

We see these two go through so many levels of emotions. Kyle does some maturing and he pulled me in even more. He has a lot of things going on in his life that added a great element to the story. Juniper at times frustrated me with her choices.

Overall I loved their story. It’s definitely not an easy journey, my emotions were all over the place. The secondary characters were great and we get several twists and turns. Wow, what did I just read?

Evangeline meets Landon at an art gallery show. She is quickly attracted to the dark, handsome, demanding man which threatens her happiness with someone else.

Evangeline can’t stop thinking about Landon and when he texts her to come see him, she goes. That night changed everything for her. Somewhere on this battlefield at the edge of who I’ve become lies a casualty whose name I’ve nearly forgotten.

She becomes obsessed with Landon and his dominance. There is something about the thrill of being bad that keeps drawing her in, needing it like an addiction. I have become a slave to my own sins.

There are some unexpected twists. I think I’m still floored at how Landon was with Evangeline. This is a quick read that has some shocking moments, for me anyway. This is Eagle and Winter’s story. I highly suggest reading book one first. Eagle is the president of the Fallen Eagles MC. Winter is a strong woman who owns her own salon.

He had one of those voices, complete with a slight Texas twang, that wrapped around you like a silk tie secured to your wrists as you wantonly clung to the ecstasy of a forbidden moment. -Winter

When there is a murder things take an interesting twist. I love a read that has me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what is going on and this one didn’t disappoint.

There is so much going on in this book on top of the connection between Eagle and Winter.
All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. We get suspense, romance, mystery, and so much more. My emotions were all over the place, I was exhausted. T. Birmingham does a great job with detail and pulls you right in with her writing. Note that there are some dark elements in the story as well. This is a must read series.

Flash Point (Nite Fire, #1) by C.L. Schneider – Review by Michelle Austin

Flash Point (Nite Fire, #1)Flash Point by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Flash Point was an interesting 5 star read and book one in the Nite Fire series. This is a different genre for me and C.L. Schneider pulled me right in with her writing. The detail is amazing.

We start with Dahlia fleeing her homeland of Drimera due to a death sentence handed down on her. We jump ahead 100 years. She is a half-human/dragon who is has been hiding within the human realm avoiding the sentence that was given to her. She has been protecting those that have helped keep her safe.

When mysterious murders start happening, Dahlia knows who is responsible but doesn’t understand why. Dahlia starts to work on trying to solve the cases.

Will she be able to stop the murders? What will happen if her friends learn her secret?

There is so much that goes on, we get action, danger, suspense, and so much more. The secondary characters were great, we get some very interesting ones for sure. I really liked Dahlia and her strength and dedication to those she calls friends. We don’t end on a cliff hanger but we do get some leads into the next book in the series. If you’re looking for a great this is a series for you. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections) by Sylvie Stewart – Review by Michelle Austin

The Way You Are (The Carolina Connections, #5)The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Way You Are was a good 4 star read and book five in the Carolina Connections series.

Brett meets Liv at a baseball game but quickly finds out that she has a boyfriend who plays for the team. Brett was quickly put in the friend zone with Liv.

The friendship grows between these two and his attraction to Liv continues to grow. And the jealousy continues to build from Troy, he doesn’t like Liv hanging out with Brett. The best I could hope for was that she’d eventually lose interest in Troy and decide she liked me instead – Brett

While out with a bunch of his friends Brett witnesses something that changes everything. He talks to Liv’s cousin letting him know what he saw. Could this be his chance to finally have Liv for himself?

There are some more unexpected twists and turns that added a great element to the story. I also had several LOL moments. Overall I really liked Brett and Liv’s story. Sylvie Stewart pulls you in with her writing, I look forward to reading more from her.

Surviving Jordan (Surviving Series book 3) by Virginia Wine – Review by Michelle Austin

Surviving Jordan (Surviving Series Book 3)Surviving Jordan by Virginia Wine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Surviving Jordan was a good 4 star read.

This is Jordan and Ben’s story. These two had chemistry when she first started working at the company but after Ben’s dad passed away a letter from his dad quickly changed the direction that Jordan and Ben were heading.

Jordan is confused as to why Ben has pulled back and gotten distant. She thought that they were both on the same page. Trying to move forward she pursues something with Steel, who due to work issues and concerns for her safety he had to pull back and cease a relationship with her.

When Ben gets some answers to his questions he realizes there is now nothing standing between him and Jordan any longer. Will he be able to get Jordan or is it too late? Can he finally get the HEA he is looking for with Jordan?

This is a good read and I really liked Jordan and Ben. All of the other secondary characters were great as well. We also get POV from Steel as well as he deals with some dangerous issues involving his men. He quickly grew on me and I hope we get to see his story soon. My heart went out to him and the choices he had to make to keep people safe. Virginia Wine has done another great job of pulling me right in with her writing.

Surviving the Storm (Surviving Series Book 2)Surviving the Storm by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surviving the Storm was a great 5 star read and book two in the Surviving Series.

Don’t talk to me about wrong; I know wrong, I own it. I am a man of no scruples, no morales-and certainly no limits – Alex

We start out in the past with Alexander and learning some background on him and his family. We go to present day and of Alex thinking about his one night with his best friend Theo’s sister Madison and wanting more with her. And it was definitely a hot and steamy evening, but there was a huge unexpected twist the next morning. And then she was gone.

Madison is moving to California, she is a fashion designer and is working on her career. She will be closer to her brother Theo, Eden and him. She will be leaving her fiance in New York, yes fiance.

At a party that her friends were throwing for her she sees Alex and he’s in prime form and confronts Madison about her secret and was a complete jerk. Seeing him brought back some memories of their night together. Alex is determined to have Madison for himself and won’t stop until he does. Will Madison break off her engagement? Can they have a HEA?

I loved reading Madison and Alex’s story, I didn’t want to stop until I was done. You feel like your right there with them. Of course their journey had several twist and turns, and we discover that the fiance is someone that is abusive to Madison and makes things very difficult for her. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. If you’re looking for a great read with some hot and steamy moments I highly suggest this series. I can’t wait to read more.

Wish Upon a Bollywood Star by Pamela Q. Fernandes – Review by Michelle Austin

Wish Upon a Bollywood StarWish Upon a Bollywood Star by Pamela Q. Fernandes

Wish Upon a Bollywood Star was a fun 4 star read.

Soumya is excited to meet hot Bollywood Actor, Vir Seth. However she happens to overhear a conversation that he was involved in relating to how he feels about women and what their good for. This infuriates Soumya and she decides to do something to get him back.

Oh no, Soumya, you started this mess and you can damn well see it through to the bitter end. – Vir

When Vir Seth shows up at her workplace demanding she come to her boss’s office she doesn’t know what to expect. If she loses her job it was worth it. Lets just say there is a unexpected twist that she didn’t see coming, now the tables have turned.

You’re mine and before long, you’ll come to understand that. – Vir

Soumya was determined to reject Vir’s advances, however the more time they spent together her feelings were building. Does he feel the same way or is she fooling herself? How can she compete with all the beautiful women he’s used to?

I really liked Soumya and her strength in standing up for herself, she was a great strong character. Vir grew on me, at first I thought he was an arrogant man who was hung up on himself. I really enjoyed their story. The author pulls you right in with her writing and you won’t want to stop until your done, I had to see how it ended.
