A Long Kiss Goodbye (Onyx & Mercury Book 2) by H.D. Thomson – Review by Amy Brennan

A Long Kiss GoodbyeA Long Kiss Goodbye by H.D. Thomson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished this novel, and boy oh boy, I have already purchased the first installment in this series and really appreciate her writing style and the methods in which she conveys the characters feelings and thoughts throughout. I have been switching through different genres as of late, and this one really did the trick when it came to my need for a suspenseful read. Avery very much has built all her walls up to not be hurt, or to not hurt others as there are a few things that come up that would certainly have her feeling like it was a necessity.

Enter Luys, who has had this insatiable need to get to know Avery since the moment he laid eyes on her. Lucky for him, he gets to play the protector and wants to keep her safe from everyone and anyone. As the twists and turns build, this gets impossibly more difficult, and Avery isn’t sure which way is up for most of this crazy maze of an adventure. There is a whole lot of suspense, a dash of romance, and a butt load of intrigue! I thoroughly enjoyed this read, trying to solve the mystery before the ending, and look forward to disappearing into more of her written work as soon as time allows. Highly recommend!

Although this is the second book in a series, I decided to read it even though I didn’t read the first. It didn’t stop or confusing or felt like I missed something from the fist book. The author has written a suspenseful, page turner of a story that kept me wanting to read more. When Avery is attacked, she is already on edge and worried about her safety. Her neighbor Luys wants to help but is he the reason for the attack? I really like the author’s style or writing and I’m sure to pick up other books she has written.

I read Witch Switch by Louisa Bacio from this anthology. This story was simply delightful. Cheyenne and Rafe’s story was a joy to read and I found myself rooting for them as they faced their adversary. The journey of Cheyenne and Rafe to finding love together had some suspense and intrigue, which made for an interesting story. I enjoyed the story and do look forward to reading more from this author.

Captivated: Hybrid Love follows Angelina as she finds herself in a spicy love triangle between two brothers. Long before she was born, the Fates set her soul to be destined to these two men for the rest of her existence. It is her love that will help these two men be able to fight demons and send them back to where they came from. The three of them need each other to survive. The way they receive each other’s love is spicy in every way.

This is only my second smut book I’ve ever read. Without experience in this genre, this book is well written. It delivers in every way that one would hope while looking for something a bit more erotic in thier reading life. I think if you’re looking to dive into a mystical creature love triangle with life threatening stakes, this would be the book for you! I liked the idea of the plot and enjoyed the creativity the author put into the story. I can say this book isn’t for me. I don’t think smut is my genre. However, I think it would be someone’s five golden star if this is their genre of choice! Ain’t no shame in the sexy game!

Avery just wants to live her life and be normal, until she is attacked. Her world gets a little bit more complicated than she had planned. She’s stressed out over her assault, then her neighbor is murdered. And it leads to more worry and even more questions. She doesn’t know who to trust or turn to. She didn’t sign on for any of this! Her other neighbor, Luys is fascinating, but she can’t seem to get a read on him. What is he hiding? And if she finds out, will that make her pull away or lean in closer?

Note: Although this is an anthology, I have only read Witch Switch by Louisa Bacio.

The author is very talented at describing scenery and scenes. I was able to perfectly visualize what was happening, right down to the way that Rafe’s pants fit.
I didn’t connect with the story personally, but I can tell that many people will love the way that it flows. There is amazing potential in this author to become long lasting in the world of paranormal romance. It has many elements that people look for: Suspense, romance, bedroom gymnastics. If you’re a fan of sexy paranormal, you’ll love this. It reminds me of the later novels in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Paranormal, hybrids, passion and fated mates
This was a smorgasbord of steamy delight for fantasy romance fans. This had a little bit of everything all rolled into one. The first part of the book took a little bit to get into, especially the chapters from the brother’s point of view. Then I felt a shift and I was fully vested in the characters and their story, especially Angelina. This is my first book from author and it was written very well. Looking forward to continuing this series.

At first it was a little difficult to read and keep track of all of the different characters, but once I got further into it, it got easier to read. I enjoyed the overall story and the different perspectives and lifestyles. One thing that had made me sad is that it was no different then the perils we are facing in real life, I guess that’s why it hit a little closer to home for me. I loved that it brought in a different kind of “fairy” than we are all used to. It brought into modern day. Overall it was well written and kept me on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait to see what book 2 has in store for us!

Years ago, the ghouls ruled my homeland of Purgatory with all the gentle care of a throat punch. They even controlled the Great Scala, the only being who sends souls to Heaven or Hell. These days, the ghouls are gone and I’m the Great Scala. It’s as awesome as it sounds.

Then the Grim Reaper shows up and says, hold my scythe.

I’m told to go home and find a new job. Me. And my orders come from none other than Lady Regina the Reaper, a Victorian-style chick who sports a tiny hat and some huge attitude. Simply put, Regina is a rule-loving snob. She’s also the new favorite of my old nemesis, the Oligarchy, aka the four undead kings of all ghoul kind. And much as I hate to admit it, she’s put together a pretty effective evil scheme.

No question what’s truly happening, though. The ghouls want to step back into ruling Purgatory by giving me the boot through Regina. I’m having none of it. And this time, I’m taking the fight to the ghoul homeland. After all, no one knows ghouls better than I do. I’ve got myself a Nazgul-style disguise along with a plan to oust the Oligarchy in three simple steps. All I need to do is control my tail and temper. Not a problem.

Regina the Reaper can kiss my quasi butt. No one fires the Great Scala.

Wow! That’s all I can say about this book: fantastic world-building, well-written plot, and great characters. While there are a lot of characters it is not difficult to keep track. The plot has a lot of relevance to our real world and it’s easy to see where the author drew references. I absolutely adored the Byrne family. They were a soothing balm for every character; especially little Fiona. I was amazed at how Ms. Dillon pulled off such an intricate yet easy-to-understand plot. I found myself to be very unwilling to put this book down. I can’t wait to read book 2 for a continuation of the cliffhanger that we were left on.

I was captured from the beginning. Angelina is an artist who has made a living for herself with a studio that she poured her heart and soul into. Luca and Salvatore are twin “hybrids” that have been searching for her for a long time. Angelina has been having dream with two beautiful men that she cannot move past, but when these two men are no longer just dreams, her world is tilted on its axis. I loved the introduction of the twins into Angelina’s world and how they saved her. The plot is well developed, the romance is well done, the book is spicy and in general, I could not put it down. The detail in the writing makes it easy to fall in love with the characters. If you like paranormal, spice, and adventure, definitely give this book a shot.

This was a great 5 star read. I was on the edge of my seat right from the beginning. Salvatore and Luca can smell her, their mate, thankfully they find her before anything bad can happen to her. But Angelina is confused, is she dreaming again? What was the hideous creature that attacked her?

Angelina is confused at what the brothers are saying, they are her mates. They were destined to find her, their bond will help battle the demons. There is so much going on, we get unexpected twists and turns. We get some steamy moments. Will they be able to save the world? This is my first time reading this author and the storyline was captivating and different than I normally read. I enjoyed all of the characters and I really look forward to reading more from this series. 1-click and get started today on this great read.

Captivating is the best way to describe Captivated! an interesting ménage romance with a deadly twist. Well at least it seems that way…
Salvatore and Luca have finally found their mate. Unfortunately they need to get to her before Viktor does. If Viktor were to succeed in killing her it would in time lead to their demise as well. How you wonder? Well you are going to have to jump in and read the story the author weaves for them.
Angelina, unlucky in love. Constantly being set up on blind dates by her best friend, refuses to settle for less than she deserves. Little does she know that she’s not only going to be on the receiving end of one man’s love but two. And it’s going to change her life forever.
This is the 2nd book I’ve read by this author and they are definitely different. The author weaves unexpected stories within supernatural/paranormal elements with grace. I look forward to jumping into more books in the future! Possibly even this series since it is book 1 after all.

Captivated is the first book in the Hybrid Lovers series by Toya Richardson. I have read many of Ms. Richardson’s books now, and I can honestly say that this is my favourite (so far). It is a fantastic paranormal romance, with angel/vampire hybrids, demons, danger, magic, emotion, chemistry, sizzle, fated mates, suspense, mystery, high stakes, good vs evil, the fate of humankind in the balance, action, and dynamic world-creation.
This is very original and a little different from other books of Ms. Richardson’s that I have read-she has developed a winning recipe here, for sure. I can’t wait to get my hands on book #2 to see where we go from here.
If you love paranormal romance, with sexy twins, a ménage, plenty of sizzle, and an exciting story- then you will definitely want this book in your life!
Bring on Book #2!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Toya Richardson!

Captivated is the first book in the Hybrid Lovers Series and my new favorite book by this author. This is a Paranormal Romance that is packed with action, suspense drama romance, magic, mystery and so much more. I’m a huge fan of this author and I’ve read several of her books but this one definitely tops the list. This is one of those books that will pull you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go till the end. I was simply captivated by the characters and the storyline flowed so well that I got lost in the pages . This is a story about Angelina and the twins Sal and Luca. She’s been having very vivid dreams of two hot guys every night. Then there’s the super hot twins who have searching for their mate. They finally catch her scent the same time they save her life. These three bond grows stronger as each day goes by even when danger is thrown their way. Will Angelina be strong enough to help take down the Enemy or will the three of them be condemned to death? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next.. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

What an interesting take on this fabulous and gripping paranormal romance!! This book is the 2nd in a series but I do not feel as though I’ve missed any aspects regarding the storyline by not reading the first book. Rest assured, it’s on my list now and I’ve found another author that I enjoy reading!

Avery goes out with some friends to a local bar but finds herself waking up naked in her apartment covered only by a sheet. She hadn’t been drinking. How did she get here? She does remember someone over in the bushes…but who? How long has she been unaware of her surroundings?

Luys lives in the same condo building as Avery and when he sees her stumbling around aimlessly, he can’t help but step in to see what he can do. He knows better than to get attached though…his past could put both of their lives in danger. He can’t just let her wander around or worse yet, get in a car and have an accident.

Mayor is a rather interesting character. I am intrigued by her entrances and exits. It reminds me of someone rather green with envy. 😉 She’s a character that I wanted to hate but couldn’t. I found her very intriguing!

The paranormal aspects are unlike anything I’ve read before. I found the ties to Aztec history to be very interesting!! I appreciate that there is still a bit of mystery to the paranormal aspect as well and the book isn’t heavy on the paranormal until things really heat up. Even then, I found myself almost forgetting that I was reading a paranormal book. Very nice touch!

I had a hard time putting this one down, as the author really keeps the reader engaged with appropriate bits of action and some romance. There was a beautiful blend of all aspects throughout the book without any super heavy overtones that are seen in some more common works. This was an extremely enjoyable read!!

Wow I think I have found my new obsession. This is the first book inthe series and first book by this author that i have read. I am really hooked. I love supernatural romances and boy this really filled that empty space that I have had.

The author has taken two very hot supernatural beings and put them into hybrid form and boy has that really hit the spot. I really like how there is just enough drama and adventure to balance the romance. I really love fated mates story lines. The author has really brought the characters to life and I felt as though I was there in the midst of it all. I cannot wait to read more from this author and series.

Something has changed and magical powers are being given to people who before didn’t have any. With these powers and changes come great fear and a desire to stay unnoticed, but the Unhidden can’t be kept from the public view.

Suddenly, a group of six Unhidden is the only thing standing between peace and death with total destruction and elimination. Can they save themselves and all of the Unhidden?

Taming of the Few was a fun and suspenseful read with great world building. With sass and attitude from the characters, this story really feels like something you can relate to (minus the magic). It is told from a variety of viewpoints, so if that’s not something you enjoy, this may not be a read for you. I’m excited to read more from the Guardians of PHAE series! And the title is definitely fun!

I knew A Long Kiss Goodbye has a paranormal aspect, but never did I expect the route it went. The author wrote an interesting story. A story I was sucked into, I had to keep reading once I started. Once I was done, I felt like the emotions I went through, I have a love/hate relationship for this book.
Avery, an ordinary woman in her late 20s, ends up in an extraordinary situation. That’s tied to the murders happening in her Arizona home. She just doesn’t understand how. Someone attacked her, cut into her chest but she’s still alive. People nearby are suffering the same fate, but aren’t surviving. The question is, why?
Luys is way more than he seems. He’s hiding something and Avery doesn’t like it. Now that she knows her neighbor she’s going to push him to reveal parts of his past. It won’t be easy for either person to understand but it needs to be said. Now being the prime suspect in the murder of someone in their complex, Luys needs to figure out his next steps.
It’s a case of whodunnit, with a paranormal twist. Can Luys prove his innocence? Does he turn in the real culprit, or continue to protect her? Does Avery finally see who Luys truly is? All that and so many more questions will litter your mind while reading this book. Which is exactly how the author sucks you in!
Don’t believe me, check it out for yourself!

A Long Kiss Goodbye is the second book in the Onyx & Mercury series by H.D. Thomson. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Have I not discovered this brilliant author before now????? After reading this I have to admit that I have seriously been missing out on some stellar reading for some time…. But, on the other hand I am excited to find that there is a long list of other books to this author’s name for me to devour- so I can feel a massive book-binge is in order. Limbering up my one-click finger in preparation.
This is a seriously good paranormal romance with a twisty, intense, mysterious and entirely suspenseful storyline. The author writes incredibly well, and it is apparent that she is quite a talented storyteller, skilfully crafting her story with palpable tension, edge of your seat danger, unexpected developments, simmering chemistry, and superb world-building. I was so hooked on the story that I couldn’t and wouldn’t put it down. It wasn’t until I had finished and went looking to see what else I could find from this author that I discovered that this is the second book in the series. So, I am setting off on Book #1 as soon as I complete this review. Being the second book in the series didn’t impact my reading of the story in any way… I never felt like I was missing any part of the storyline or any details. It has, however, made me extremely curious to discover what happened in Book #1. So excited to be embarking on a new love affair with this author- well, her books that is lol..
I am so looking forward to my book binge with H.D. Thomson. So happy to have finally discovered her work, as my first time has proved to be one of my favourite reads of the year, so far!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, H.D. Thomson!

This fast paced, steamy paranormal romance will keep you at the edge of your seat. This book was definitely a page turner, leaving you always wanting more. Toya did an amazing job writing this book. From the steamy dreams, to the hot hot hot romance scenes, to even the action and fighting scenes. The relationship building between Angelina and her men along with the new and old friendships, you were never left unfulfilled as the reader.

I gave 4 out of 5 stars for this book, because I felt that there could have been more detail in parts of the book. I felt, especially in the beginning, time was forgotten. The story just bounced around and what seemed like a day, was actually a couple of hours in the story or vice versa. With one bad thing that happened, in the end it was a majority of a feel good book. Overall, the story was a great quick read, with an even better ending. I really look forward to reading more from this author, and cannot wait to see what comes next.

The author has written an interesting world of fantasy that has aspects we recognize but at the same time gives us differences. The characters are well written regarding their individual powers and are fairly easy to connect with. From the start we can feel the danger and hostility the characters face for being different from the rest of the human race.
Many of the people with powers are finding it hard to stay safe. Those with powers are finding safe haven in Ireland at a school where they can learn more about their abilities and learn to work together. The ones who found sanctuary in Ireland must now work together to keep the school and others who helped them.
I enjoyed reading this first book in the series and I’m looking forward to see how the team continues to work together.
