Yule Lads Legend: Iceland’s Jólasveinar by Heidi Herman – Review by Rachel Moss

Yule Lads Legend: Iceland's JolasveinarYule Lads Legend: Iceland’s Jolasveinar by Heidi Herman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yule Lads Legend by Heidi Herman was a cute little Christmas story! It was a quick read, and a very descriptive tale at that. It was interesting to read another cultures Christmas fable/legend/tale, and to me it was reminiscent of the Twelve Days if Christmas song, but in book form. This story was a retelling, and I will assume it did its job very well, since I haven’t read the original tale before. This was a great Christmas story that I would recommend for kids of all ages during the holiday season.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink – Review by Rachel Moss

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink was an absolutely incredible read! I was enthralled from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down. I almost finished it in one whole sitting, it was so good! This book could definitely be traumatic for some, and a huge trigger for people who have experienced domestic assault of all cases. But this is definitely a book worth reading. The author does such a good job of describing domestic abuse, and the thoughts and feelings behind survivors. I was very wary of being triggered myself reading this book, but I took the plunge anyway and I’m so glad I did! I think everyone should read this book at least once. This is one that will definitely resonate with you long after you read the last page. This thriller of a novel is definitely one of my new favorites now. A giant kudos Willink for this book.

Love Heels! The TV news business can be murderLove Heels! The TV news business can be murder by Lynne Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love Heels!: The TV News Business Can be Murder by Lynne Russell is the third book in the PJ Santini series and was a really entertaining read! This is the first book I’ve read from this author, and apart from just a few instances in the novel I didn’t feel like I missed much at all, not reading the first two books first. This series was entertaining, thrilling in parts, and full of comedy. PJ’s grandmother had me laughing out loud throughout the whole thing! She was absolutely hilarious. I loved the crazy Italian family, it made the story even better in my opinion. The storyline was fascinating and I really enjoyed the characters. I can’t wait to read more of this series in the future!

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills Book 1) by Sonya Jesus – Review by Rachel Moss

The Bullet Theory (Dr. Nolan Mills, #1)The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Bullet Theory by Sonya Jesus is the first book in the Nolan Mills series and was a very intriguing and interesting read! This is the second novel I’ve read from this author, and I enjoyed it so much more from the first. I’m glad she put a trigger warning in the book, because this book could be very triggering for someone who has experienced child lose in the past. This was a very thrilling novel to read and I was intrigued from the beginning. It took a couple of chapters to become fully enthralled though. But I highly enjoyed reading this novel and can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!

HUNTED (HUNTED series Book 1) by Sarah Biglow & Molly Zenk – Review by Rachel Moss

HuntedHunted by Sarah Biglow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hunted by Sarah Biglow and Molly Zenk is the first book in the Hunted series and was an incredible read! I was drawn in from the first chapter and had trouble putting this book down. This isn’t your typical vampire book, and I really enjoyed reading some of the quirks of vampire abilities I’ve never read in a book before. This book was jam packed with action, suspense, and a little bit of romance, enough to make this book feel like a very quick read. All of the characters were very enjoyable to read, especially Darren and his character development throughout the story. This was a great read and I can’t wait to read the next installment of the series!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Unwrapped by Evelyn Sola was a great read! This book captured me from the first few pages and I just couldn’t put it down. Miranda and her parents had me laughing throughout the whole novel, and it was a great holiday read. The steam from the pages alone is enough to ward off the chill of December. This is definitely an 18+ novel. The storyline was great, and so were characters. You don’t even realize there is a 13 year age difference between the two main characters, because the story is so engrossing. This is the first novel I’ve read from this author and I wasn’t disappointed!

Starvation by Molly Fennig – Review by Rachel Moss

StarvationStarvation by Molly Fennig
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Starvation by Molly Fennig was an incredible book, one that will resonate with you for awhile. While the author tries to take a stab at some dark humor sprinkled throughout, this a serious novel, one that deals with many things. It deals with depression, suicide, anxiety, and eating disorders. It could definitely be triggering for the right person, but I also think that if the right person reads this novel, it can help more than harm them. This book was so well written, I felt like I was right there, struggling along with Wes, the main character. In all honesty I felt like I was reading a John Greene novel with this one. This was absolutely an incredible read, one I think everyone needs to read to try and understand people just a little bit better. Kudos to Fennig for this novel.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fake Fiancé by Amy Mckinley was a really great read! While kind of predictable, this book was very enthralling in its story and characters. You kind of get two stories in one with this sweet romance, and it’s definitely a great one to read. I was instantly captures from the beginning, and it was hard to put down. The story was very well written, I got lost in the pages so often. The characters were great and I felt like I was right there in Italy with them all. This was not my first read from Mckinley, and it definitely did not disappoint. I highly recommend this novel!

High Heels And Mistletoe (Kisses Under The Mistletoe) by C.A. King, USA Today Bestselling Author – Review by Rachel Moss

High Heels And MistletoeHigh Heels And Mistletoe by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

High Heels and Mistletoe by C. A. King was a really good read! It was a very quick, Christmas themed romance novel that drew me in with the synopsis. I really enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the happy ending. My only complaint was that the writing felt a little bit rushed. The days kind of fell together in the novel, and I had trouble establishing a good time frame for the events that happened. But regardless of that fact, the story was very captivating. This is the first novel I can recall reading from this author and I hope to read more in the future.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dead Lawyer’s Don’t Lie by Mark Nolan is the first book in the Jake Wolfe series and was a really good read! This novel was suspenseful, thrilling, and completely entertaining. When I read this book, I didn’t want to put it down. It was full of twists, ones that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole novel. The characters were great, and the storyline was very compelling. Plus, the main character has an amazing companion in his dog, and who doesn’t love dogs? Not only was I on the edge of my seat reading this thriller, but the witty commentary of some of the characters had me laughing as well. This novel was definitely a great read!

The Devil's DayThe Devil’s Day by Megan Mackie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Devil’s Day by Megan Mackie is the third book in the Lucky Devil series, and was a good read. This book is not a stand alone novel, it’s much better to read the other books in the series first. I have read the first book in this series, but not the second book, and because of that I was thrown off quite a bit in this story. I still enjoyed this novel, but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I would have read the second installation as well. The storyline was really good, and the characters were great. This series (what I have read anyway) is definitely a good read.

Blood of the Dragon (Relic Hunters, #4)Blood of the Dragon by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blood of the Dragon by Martin Ferguson is the fourth book in the Relic Hunters series and was another great read! I was instantly enthralled by this novel and I think this one may be my favorite, at least until I get to read the next installment! This book was definitely one of the more interesting ones to me, and I have found every previous installment very interesting as well. While it was somewhat predictable (or at least, I predicted the plot twist so to speak) it still had me on the edge of my seat with the excitement, adventure, and pure terror of some of the characters. This series has quickly become a favorite of mine and I can’t wait to read the next installment!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Rest for the Wicked by Naomi Valkyrie is the first book in the Life is Hell series and was an amazing read! I was fully immersed in this book from the first few pages. It was also a shirt novel, so it’s very quick to read. Delilah, the main female character, was such a blast to read, she had me laughing throughout the whole thing, I immediately fell in love with her character! All the rest of the characters were amazing too, of course, but Delilah was the one who had me laughing and became my favorite. This was such a good book, I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Grumbler’s Ride by Manda Mellet is the second book in the Satan’s Devils MC San Diego series and was another great read! Manda Mellet knocked it out again with another incredible book. I’m not a huge fan of the MC stories, but with Mellet’s great writing and amazing characters, she makes them very interesting and entertaining to read. This book had me laughing, wanting to cry, and also made me breathless. I couldn’t believe where the story was heading until it got there. I also loved the Doctor Who joke that sprinkled in the novel as well. This was a great read, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Dreaming of Christmas: 5 complete, sweet holiday romances by Joanne Dannon – Review by Rachel Moss

Dreaming of ChristmasDreaming of Christmas by Joanne Dannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dreaming of Christmas by Joanne Dannon was a really good read! This is a short collection of five different short Christmas stories, each one connected in some way with the next. The storylines of each one was similar, but also different in their own way, if that makes sense, with all of them being very good to read. My only complaint, was some of the stories had timelines that didn’t make sense. Time wasn’t established well, and events happened that didn’t make much sense in a time frame point of view. But I enjoyed all the characters in the various stories. They were very well written, and while they are romance stories, they are not explicit at all. Very sweet stories to read at this time of year!

War of the Damned (Relic Hunters, #3)War of the Damned by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

War Of The Damned by Martin Ferguson is the third book in the Relic Hunters series and was an incredible read! I swear, each book in this series just gets better and better, and more interesting! One of my favorite parts about this book and the series in general (minus the laughs, jokes and sass between the team) is the historical content. That added edge and perspective makes this series a super unique historical fiction read to me. I also love reading stuff about World War II, so this novel was already going to be interesting to me regardless. I can’t wait to read the fourth book in the series!

Moonlight and Belladonna by Jae Dawson is part of the Hartwood Romance series, and was an incredible read! The cover was what initially drew me in, but as soon as I opened it I fell in love with this book the minute I started reading the first page. The characters came to life and were relatable, and the plotline was just great. While it seems on the surface that it’s just about like every book I’ve read before, it’s not at all once you start reading. There is so much life to the story, and heart and humor, it’s difficult to put this book down once you pick it up. I laughed and cried while reading this novel. I highly recommend this one!

A Merry Texan Christmas by Nicole Flockton is the third book in The Prentice Brothers of Sweet Ridge series, and it was a great read! It went perfect with the series, and is great as a stand alone. All three novels in this series works as stand-alones if you really want them to be. This book was probably my favorite of the series, just because it was a Christmas themed book. I loved being back with the characters I grew to love in the first and second books. The storyline was great, and the main characters amazing as always with this series. This was a great read and I highly recommend!

Shattered Snow by Rachel Huffmire is the first book in the Mirror Chronicles series and it was an incredible read! This was a very interesting take on the classic fairy tale of Snow White, with an added historical time travel twist that made for a very intriguing novel. Once I started reading I didn’t want to put this book down, it was that good! The characters are amazing, and super complex. The storyline was great, but can also get a little confusing due to the time travel involved throughout the story. I completely fell in love with this book and I can’t wait to read the second installment! This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I hope to read more in the future. I highly recommend this one!

The History of the Universe: As My Soul and I Remember by Stuart Ledwith, PhD – Review by Rachel Moss

The History of the Universe: As My Soul and I RememberThe History of the Universe: As My Soul and I Remember by Stuart Ledwith
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The History of the Universe: As My Soul and I Remember It by Stuart Ledwith was an interesting read, to say the least. This was not a typical book that I would read. I’m not much into reading religious books, but the synopsis of this book sounded really interesting, so I decided to give it a try. This was not a typical religious book, and while the author states that the events in this book happened, it read more as a fiction book to me than a nonfiction book. I was confused throughout, but that didn’t keep me from reading and finishing this novel. While it was well written, it also went away in some parts and I found it difficult to concentrate on. This was a very interesting read though, no doubt!

It was a surprise I was not expecting to receive when I first started reading the first book. I highly recommend this novel and the whole series.

This book was enthralling from the beginning to the end, with some surprising twists thrown in that I wasn’t expecting. I went into this novel, thinking I was going to get nothing but an erotic read, and I got much more! While there was some erotica, it wasn’t as much as I was expecting, and there was more of a storyline than I was expecting. The storyline was great, and it reminded me a bit of Fifty Shades of Grey. I had trouble putting this book down once I started reading it. This novel is an 18+ book, and I highly recommend it.

Grosse Pointe by Natalie Barnes was a really good read! This is the first novel I’ve read from this author, and I wasn’t disappointed at all. This novel is set in the 1920s, and seemed to be a really good fictional novel that still portrays the history of that time period in the United States. It did take me a couple of chapters to get into the story, and get used to the Irish dialect and dialogue that is used throughout. Once I got used to it, the novel completely dragged me in, and I could hardly put it down. It was very well written with a great storyline. I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future!

Fall of the Western Kings by J. Drew Brumbaugh is the first book in the Tirumfall trilogy and it was a good read. The synopsis led me to believe it was going to be better than what I read, and I was slightly disappointed because of that, but it was still a good read. I think the descriptions could have been better, as well as the timeline throughout the novel but overall it held my attention alright. It was slightly reminiscent to Game of Thrones to me, at least when the descriptions were well written. This is the first novel I’ve read from this author before, and I will be reading more in the future.
