Distant Memories (Nurse Morgan Series Book 2) by Kate MacInnis – Review by Shelly Kittell

Distant Memories: A Nurse Morgan Series: Book TwoDistant Memories: A Nurse Morgan Series: Book Two by Kate MacInnis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 2 of the series has turned out to be as entertaining as the first book. Nurse Morgan Cutler and the cast of characters: Dr. Lightfoot, Savvy, Tiffany, Ellen, Gloria, and our favorite ghost couple the Wilkersons return for another adventure. This time, Esme, a nasty little seductress from another world, is causing issues on both sides of the veil. Nurse Morgan is caught in the middle. Everyone wants her gone and they want Nurse Morgan to do it. With the humor, romance, mystery and just plain fun, this author gives us a great book that you’ll enjoy reading. The plot has some substory lines that jump off yet come right back in and tie up into the main story line so smooth. There are plot twists that leave you guessing and laughing. The Wilkersons are a hoot. I love everything about this series and hope there will be more. Recommended for all.

Distant Memories: A Nurse Morgan Series: Book TwoDistant Memories: A Nurse Morgan Series: Book Two by Kate MacInnis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Distant Memories is the second spooky book in the series and is a fun and original paranormal romance. They say laughter is the best medicine and Kate gives us that in spades with not only this book but with this series thus far. There is a little bit of something for everyone drama and humour, ghosts and spooky moments and so much more in this entertaining read. As with the first book this is a quirky short tale and a real little gem. I absolutely love the characters Kate has breathed life into.

Morgan is back and is still adjusting to her strange new psychic world and has made peace with those in her domain. With rules of course. But that peace is threatened when one wily ghostly seductress decides she wants what Morgan has. How far is she ready to go?

I can’t wait for more.

This fun sweet and easy Romance was one of the best ones that I have read thus year. This is the third installment in the series and while I loved the first two this one really took the cake. Our author has a fantastic writing style, and definitely knows how to pull the reader right into her realistic stories. The characters are so relatable, realistic, full of emotions, chemistry, and more. The storyline was an easy romance but also spun so beautifully that i simply couldn’t put it down. So if your looking for the a great new roamnce to read, then pick this one up today.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love this series and this book was a wonderful addition to it. As always this author 100% transports me to wherever her stories are set with her beautiful descriptive language. Having previously met the main character in the first two books it was really nice to finally read Krystina’s story. I do like a frenemy to lovers story and this one is probably one of my favourites that I have read and actually one of my favourites from this author. The author really brought to life the feelings between the two main characters, especially Krystina. I liked the angst, the emotions, the relationship between Krystina and Loukas and also the relationship between Krystina and her sisters Mia and Kally.
This really was a lovely story to read, although the third in the series it could easily be read as a standalone however having read the previous two I would also highly recommend them also!
As always I look forward to read more from this author again in the future.

Feisty, flirty and fun
I really love this series and book 3 did not disappoint. This book focuses on the billionaire Pierce brother Seth and journalist Victoria. It’s a rocky road but a fun ride to their HEA. The little snippets from the other brothers scattered throughout were a treat too. Eagerly await Noah’s story.

Strong, steamy and sweet
This is the second book in the Pierce Brothers series and is just as good as book one. I loved Nadia in the first book and she did not disappoint in this one – though at times a bit OTT, she kept true to being strong, funny and fiercely independent. Luke is steadfast and serious due to his past. It takes lots of bumps and turns (and some compromises) to get these two anywhere close to their HEA. So looking forward to book 3!

This is book 3 in the Meraki series but in my opinion, this can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed how the characters interact in this author’s stories; they feel so real and I got very invested. This was the most intense read of the series, the mysterious circumstances surrounding her grandfather had me turning the pages for answers. Krystina went through a lot in the story and at times it was heartbreaking and emotional, Another fantastic story for this author.

I really enjoyed how the characters interact in this author’s stories; they feel so real and I got very invested. The author is very good at portraying family dynamics. Mia and Nicholas were not the pairing I would have predicted especially with the beginning of their relationship. but you couldn’t help but become invested and hope they would make it. Oh Victoria, fake it until you make it. She made herself a deadline to get a promotion at her current job as a reporter by her 30th birthday. Where will her big break come from? Billionaire tech giant Seth Pierce. The notoriously private man is on the hunt for a new executive assistant, but none of the candidates he has interviewed seem qualified enough. He expects to go through the routine questions, but somehow the tables get reversed and he doesn’t really know what hit him. When she reveals that she is not the candidate named Kim he is intrigued. Who is this woman? He feels as though he has found the right person for the job, but when he finds out she is a journalist that all may change. When he tracks her down and makes her an offer she can’t refuse will she take it? I have enjoyed each Pierce brothers story so far. These can be read on their own, but like with any series it’s always a good idea to start with the first book as you may want to know the stories behind other characters.

Falling in love with a pop starlet has its drawbacks

Lack of privacy, for one

Gossip, for another

But falling in love with Kiki Ramirez was the best thing I’ve ever done

And the stupidest

One story planted by her agent and now I look like a fool

Played by the starlet

Looking like a simp for the world to see

But none of its true and I can’t defend my woman how I want

The urge to fight for her, to defend her is too strong

Even against the Hollywood machine working hard to keep us apart

Falling in love with a civilian wasn’t part of the plan

I didn’t believe in love

Not for me and not for my life

But a small town mayor was the man who’d torn down my walls

Snuck past my defenses

And now with our future hanging in the balance its up to me to find a way to make it all work

A crazy agent

A ravenous paparazzi

And a pregnant belly I’m powerless to hide

I want Eric and the life I see for us

But how can I invite this madness into his quiet, small town life?

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13 Book 4) by Danielle Jacks – Review by Dahnielle Hibbert

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13, #4)Burned by Fire by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a shorter novella. While the story line is there and the main characters, Sol and Ember, each have their connections to the storyline this story could have been really amazing. I am of the thought that the more details you put into both the storyline and the characters the better the story. That said it was a cute short romance read and was enjoyable. I would read another story by this author.

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13, #4)Burned by Fire by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firehouse 13 is a 12-part series with each book written by one of 12 amazing authors. Set in a small town called Armstrong and centred around the firehouse sparks fly and temperatures burn in more than one way.

Danielle’s Burned by Fire is the fourth book in the series. It is one story where things are highly emotional and full of drama, angst, pain, stubbornness, and sacrifice. There is hard earned romance and it kept the pages turning but it was over too soon.

Sol is a bitter, bitter man and can’t see where is place in the world is anymore. He has lost the one thing he loves. Now he is looking for answers in the bottom of a bottle but could one beautiful woman change things?

Ember maybe doing what she loves but now something or someone is missing. Could the one thing she wants now be a reality?

I look forward to reading more of this series.

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13, #4)Burned by Fire by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

Burned By Fire by Danielle Jacks is the fourth book in the Firehouse 13 series, a multi-author collaboration. It is a bit of an angsty and emotional contemporary romance. A story about finding love unexpectedly, with a friends to lovers theme, firefighters, mentor/mentee relationship, age gap, secret crush, struggles with mental health issues, losing yourself to your inner demons, chemistry, connection, finding purpose, hope, and love.
It has some really sweet moments, but this isn’t a light and fluffy read. The story is emotional as we observe our MC struggle with his inner demons. Sol had lost himself when he had to retire early from the fire department due to injury. He gets stuck in a downward spiral of self-pity, regret, and alcohol. He had lost sight of everything that mattered and now risks losing everything. Will the rookie ignite a new passion for him? Will he take a chance, grab hold of a lifeline, find a way to conquer his demons, find love, and discover a new purpose?
I love Danielle Jacks stories; they always find a way to burrow under my skin and into my heart. I think Sol and Ember were perfect for each other, but things weren’t ‘easy’ for them, and they had to work to find their happiness. I did enjoy the book, but I would’ve loved to have read a longer version of this story, as the story felt a bit rushed in places. I would have like more time to fully appreciate the characters and their emotive story.

Thank you, Danielle Jacks!

One In A Billion (Pierce Brothers, #3)One In A Billion by Belinda Williams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This fun and sassy romantic comedy is the third book in the Pierce Brothers series. Each book just gets better and better. I really enjoy stories that are told in dual POV and that’s what we get with this series. Belinda gives us everything we need to keep the pages turning. There is friendship and romance, passion and sass, tension and humour. This steamy but sweet tale will have you laughing at the wit and banter. I love the characters and enjoyed going on this journey with them.

Seth maybe a billionaire but that is not who he is. He is an Aussie who has been lucky. He certainly doesn’t shy away from what he wants though. What he wants he gets and he wants the sassy woman who sauntered right through his door.

Victoria is on a timetable of her making and she won’t deviate from the plan that is until one panty dropping man smiled in her direction.

One in A Billion is a quick and easy read and one that will delight the senses as sparks fly. So, kick back with a drink and a few hours of quiet time and enjoy the story.

I have loved everything by this author so far, and have been head over heels for this series! This book was a true RomCom that everyone should read! Love, laughter, and a great road to a HEA.
Victoria and Seth were great together! Seth was sweet and down to earth and wanted to be seen as more than his status or estimated worth. Victoria was smart and feisty, and overall very determined. Mistaken for being a candidate for the PA job in Seth’s office lands her right where she needs to be. The journey they take with the added business/pleasure takes this story to all the right places. I smiled from start to finish and I would surely read this book again.

Burned by Fire (Firehouse 13, #4)Burned by Fire by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an enjoyable, short read. The story is told from the perspectives of each of the main characters, Sol and Ember. Sol is trying to reckon with injury and pain of losing his life’s path and Ember’s career is starting to take off. Though younger than Sol, she’s always had a crush and it may finally be the right time to explore her crush, while also helping Sol find his way back to life. The feelings and steam between the characters is palpable.

Overall, this was an enjoyable story with fairly well developed characters; however there were time I was hoping for more depth. The story moves at a fast pace due to its length, but the reader is fulfilled in a complete story. This can be read in a single sitting and was worth the time.

I continue to love this series and Jonas’s story did not disappoint. This was a great 5 star read. All I can say is be prepared, this is an intense dark story and my emotions were all over the place. These two have a history and when fate brings them together again watch out. Kenzie is a chef and Jonas needs one for his hotel. He will not stop until he gets what he wants. But…we get some huge twists once secrets start to come out. I really don’t want to say much more, I don’t want to give anything away. Overall I think this has become my favorite in the series. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a decent book. I absolutely loved the storyline! But I had a few issues with this one. First of all, Maris forgave Pasha way too fast to me. I could never. Saying it like this to avoid spoilers, anyway. The story was very fast paced. And while it made this a very quick read, everything felt super rushed and some parts of the plot just kind of ran together to mebecause of that. I feel like if it was slowed down just a tad it would have made the plot better. I loved the mermaid and human aspect! I rarely see novels about mermaids so this was definitely refreshing and I enjoyed that. So while I really want to rate this higher I just can’t because of my frustration with some of the characters, because I really wanted to shake some sense into them, lol!

If you’ve been reading this series then you’re probably invested in this family like I am. So much happened in book 3. From Yiayiá to “Minnie”, everyone had life lessons to learn. My heart broke for Yiayiá. I cried when she cried. I hurt for Loukas. I was extremely happy for Mia. This one really hit home because it covered the pandemic. Reading how it affected other people struck a cord with me. I know alot of people don’t like seeing it played out in what they watch or read because the world is still recovering from it but I think it’s important. Not everyone was affected the same. Anyways for a second I thought Krystina and Loukas wasn’t going to make it. I’m glad they did. I can’t wait to learn more about Theo’s relationship. I hope he found the one. Every member of this family deserves love and happiness.
