This is a fascinating paranormal romance that really had me gripped from the very beginning and was hard to put down. I had not read any work by this author before so was unsure what to expect from this book, but I can say that I will definitely read their work again in future.
When Avery wakes up after a night out and discovers that she’s naked and that her chest has been cut open and sewn shut again, she has no idea what has happened. She has no recollection of anything after going to bed after a few drinks with friends.
This opening to the book sure pulls you into the story straight away. You just want to keep reading to find out what happened to her. Add into the mix her hot neighbour who is hiding some secrets of his own and you are in for a fantastic read.
The story is medium to fast paced and flows very well, keeping the reader engaged and entertained.
I really loved the characters of Avery and hot neighbour Luys. Both are very intriguing and you want to keep reading to find out more about them. What secrets are they hiding?
I would 100% recommend this book.

  1. J. Gillenwater has a B.A. in English and Spanish from Valparaiso University and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from University of California, Santa Barbara. She worked as a Russian linguist in the U.S. Navy, spending time at the National Security Agency doing secret things. After six years of service, she ended up as a technical writer in the software industry.

The True Purpose of Vines is the first book to the Winemakers series by Giovanna Siniscalchi. As I read the first chapter, I was not too sure where the book was going to take me. But as I continued on, I realized it was going to take me to a far more beautiful place than I imagined. In 1870 Portugal, during a timeframe when it was not considered normal for a woman to work so hard and be the household provider, there lived a headstrong widow, mother and passionate winemaker named Julia Costa-Ferreira. Julia has taken over her late husband’s business and does not need help or directions from any man. But here comes the handsome Griffon Maxwell, a pretentious Englishman who agrees to travel to Portugal initially to chase a debt with hopes of striking a deal. He didn’t realize he’d be chasing after the debtor’s heart as well. But can her independent ways and his conservative mindset find a way?

I loved the slow buildup of romance between these two characters, the descriptions, the setting. The author clearly took her time to do a lot of in-depth research to be able to take her readers to a historical period with elaborate, accurate detail. This was a beautiful story, and I look forward to the next one. I’d also like to mention how vibrant and gorgeous the cover is. A perfect representation for this tale. If you love a good historical romance and wine, this is the perfect story to find yourself lost in.

The history of the region and the culture, along with well-developed characters, keeps the reader fully invested.

I want to say first, this cover….totally stunning!!! As soon as I saw this beautiful cover I was already intrigued. This is a historical romance set in Portugal 1870’s. This is a beautifully written story, and I enjoyed being swept up in time. Julia is a strong and passionate woman that is all about keeping her vineyard and producing the best wine, but is also in debt due to her late husband. Griffin, who is all about regaining his family’s status, makes an agreement to get payment from Julia. As the story unfolds, so does the romance between Griffin and Julia.

This is a great story of romance, secrets, history and cultural differences….the author did an amazing job with such wonderful details.

The True Purpose of Vines, is a wonderfully written historical romance. It follows Griffin Maxwell as he visits his property in Portugal where he is neighbors with the strong-willed, intelligent Julia Costa. An obvious mutual attraction between the two kicks off this enemies-to-lovers type romance trope. I love a good, grumpy character and Griffin does not disappoint. He has such a good heart and just wants to save his family. I love the chemistry between him and Julia; she is exactly the type of woman his mother says he needs. I also love seeing such a strong, competent woman and how she navigates a world full of men that think they know better. Julia has such a passion for wine-making. You feel her frustrations and longings to find someone with whom she can share that passion. This book was tasteful, informative, and enjoyable to read. The author put a lot of effort into being accurate and informative about the world of wine-tasting. I learned a great deal and I look forward to the next book in the series.

When Julia discovers her vineyard is in trouble she seeks the help of Griffin to save her livelihood, at first he is reluctant but eventually gives in. Julia drags him on a four day trip to see someone who may be able to help her, only for them both to fall in love. That is until Julia discovers that Griffin may not have been forthcoming and she runs away. Julia is a head strong, fiery, character, very much out of place for a woman in her time. Griffin is everything you would expect, and can be irritating throughout the book.

The True Purpose of Vines (The Winemakers Book 1) by Giovanna Siniscalchi

The True Purpose of Vines is the first book in The WineMakers Series and this authors debut novel. I’m a huge fan of Historical Romance and this book is a Historical enemies to lovers that once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved everything about this book and actually learned a bit about Portuguese history and wine making. This author knocked it out of the park with this one. Her style of writing and attention to detail is honestly incredible. Her characters are well developed and fun, relatable and easy to fall in love with. This is a story about Julia and Griffin. These two have chemistry between but struggle with finding a way to keep their relationship together and with finding a cure. Get ready to be taken on quite the emotional rollercoaster ride. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

I really enjoyed this book! The author does a fantastic job of world building, and an even better job of character building. The courage with which Ember faces her challenges is inspiring and I would love to spend just one hour talking to her. The relationship between her and Gavyn was so realistic and I really enjoyed seeing it grow. The chosen family they build is just so heartwarming; I always enjoy reading about chosen families because I can relate – even having a good blood family, chosen family can be so important.

As we continue this journey things start to get a little crazy and this point I have no clue what’s gonna happen next but I’m excited. Amy is an amazing author and I am fully entrigued and obsessed with this series.

This is such a great military romance. It pulled me in from the very first page. Poor Nadia is an assassin for the government and because of a traumatic brain injury that she suffers she forgets six years of her life and the man that she loves. Mitch is being framed and the cartel is breathing down her neck. She finds herself drawn to him as she struggles to regain her lost memories and to find out who is framing him and why the cartel is after her. This book is full of action, romance and suspense and kept me having to read just one more page to find out what would happen next! This is one you definitely won’t want to miss.

The love child of the Power Puff girls and G.I. Joe is the best summary of this book to me! Nadia Roth, codename the Phoenix, is a member of the Hera Force and the main female character in this book. She has TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) causing her to have blackouts and memory loss. A large part of that memory loss is the years with our main man Mitch Edwards. Mitch is a former MI6 operative on the run and framed for Treason. When the two meet up in a bar in Mexico, Mitch is bartending, and Nadia is looking for her “Mark”.
Hera Force is tasked with tracking the Chessmaster and in the process, rope in Mitch, his old buddy Mattias, and a few others. The mission goes sideways, as they do, when Mitch and Nadia’s pasts collide with them in the worst way.
This is a well written ride that fans of action and espionage genres will love!

This was a book that had everything you needed to draw you in, and a happy ending to cement it all together
Both the MC’s were independent and strong. Throughout the story you felt how in sync they were, and their force and strength alone became magnified the more they were together. As the story unfold its clear that Nadia and Mitch have a history that was hot, heavy, and way more than just a fling. While Mitch is determined to relive it….Nadia’s brain injury has erased any traces of it. Teaming up to clear Mitch’s name gives Nadia a glimpse of the man who knows her inside and out. Physically a stranger but emotionally a feeling that this man makes her whole.
This book gives you action, intrigue, suspense, romance, and a love story that even lost memories cannot hold down.

This fast-paced military romance novel will keep you on the edge of your seat! Nadia, aka Phoenix, is back at it again after slashing some no good bad guys at a local bar, which prompts a huge backlash from the rest of the goons. Mitch, who is a former SAS operative, gets wrapped up in all the drama and falls back in love with Nadia. She doesn’t remember him though after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Lots of action back and forth, along with a crazed doctor with some “lifesaving” drugs and a super cool dog will keep the reader entranced in this story!

This is the first book in the Mafia Elite series and tells the story of Max and Liliana. It’s very well written with lots of romance, action, twists and turns. The alternating POV makes is easy to feel like you’re right there with the characters living their story.

There are so many great characters in these books. I LOVE all of the strong women in this series and their friendship and unbreakable bond. And the men? Let’s just say they could protect me anytime!

This is my second Mafia Elite book to read so obviously I’m reading them out of order. They can function as stand-alone reads but definitely build on one another.

Lauren Fraser is a first time author for me and I was impressed. The main content of Everything To Me started quickly without a whole lot of fluff to distract the reader. I love the sports element included in this book, and the fact the main character, Kendall, is a fan of baseball creates a very complex character. There wasn’t a whole lot of delving into the lives of the secondary characters, but the two main characters were well developed and realistic. I want to be friends with a couple like Kendall and Pete! Lauren Fraser did a great job keeping the “brother’s best friend” genre from being too overplayed by focusing more on the connection and emotions between Pete and Kendall. Both of the main characters, but especially Pete, went through a lot of emotional changes and growth throughout the book. Fraser does a wonderful job of creating a quick, witty, emotional read while allowing the reader to still connect with the characters. I can’t wait to read more books by Lauren Fraser.

I loved Kendall and Pete’s story! Their transition from old friends to lovers was steamy. I found myself laughing out loud several times with this book, and I truly appreciate that. I don’t find that too often with steamy romance novels. Each of the main characters was so well written, I felt like I was watching everything play out right before my eyes. From the awkward preteen/teen years of lust to grown adults indulging and falling for each other. I need more well written books like this in my life! I will definitely be reading more from this author!

Upon finding Hailey’s location, Trey was curious about how friendly she was with her kidnapper. Trey decided to turn the tables and snatches Hailey from her best friend, Justin. After finding out why Hailey had staged her abduction, Trey decides to help her with her plan to blackmail Allen for the money he has exhorted from the hospital.

The multiple twists and burning tension between Trey and Hailey makes this story one that cannot be put down. I guarantee the entire series is well worth reading, and every book will have you eagerly looking for more.

Usually after the first few in a series the freshness is lost. Not so with the Mafia Elite series. This is book 6 and is just as wonderful as the first 5. I just can’t seem to get enough of these books, these amazing characters, and the world that has been created for our enjoyment. Trey, the doctor they call on when any one is hurt, has been hurt in the past. He lost the woman he cared for. Hailey had been used and burned. She didn’t trust easily. The first time Trey and Hailey met there was definitely something there. When they meet again under very different circumstances what will happen? Can either of them get around the walls that have been built by the other? This book was full of twists and turns and defiant surprises along the way.

Collateral Damage is the 6th book in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. I am really enjoying this series and have read all the books so far. I do recommend reading them in order as you get to know each of the characters individually and it will make the continuing storylines make more sense. In this book, Dr Trey La Rosa is tasked with finding the kidnapped stepdaughter of a colleague, but it is not as straightforward as it may seem at first. Trey and Hailey need to work together to find out her stepfather’s true intentions. I liked this book but feel it was a bit short, I would have loved more! I have so many unanswered questions but hopefully, some of these will be answered in Nico’s story. If you like a mafia romance with overbearing males but equally powerful females this is a series for you.

We meet Trey in some of the other books in this series but we finally get to really know him and his story- and it was worth the wait!

Dr. Trey La Rosa works as a surgeon at a hospital but he is also available to his mafia family anytime he is needed. Trey has lots of female “fans” but he’s very guarded because he lost his true love. Enter Hailey- she’s in trouble and needs help. Can Trey save her? Can he keep his guard up or will she steal his heart in the process? This book has it all- action, adventure, suspense, intrigue, romance, twists and turns. Another great read from this amazing author.

Trey La Rosa, hard working Dr. Plenty of looks to keep the woman’s heads turning. He is also a member of the family mafia. While he keeps his job seperate from the family, he has no interest in finding a love interest. He had one but she had died, so he has buried his head in his work. Until….. Hailey Carmichael, never wanted anything but to belong. She lost her sister and father in a car accident, and her mother has turned her back on Hailey. Therefore Hailey is on her own. Until the day she is kidnapped…… That’s all you get from me. No Spoilers! This is one of my favorite authors. You know the kind, where you drop everything to read the next book in the series. She did not disappoint with this one. This story is fast paced and high energy. Just when I thought the worst was over, I was wrong. I fell head over heels in love with this family and their wives. The female characters are strong and independant and the men are hot and steamy, oh and deadly. This is a must read!

Collateral Damage: A Second Chance Mafia Romance (Mafia Elite Book 6)

Once again this author delivered a book I throughly enjoyed and had a hard time putting down.  She definitely one of the authors that I will read blindly without reading the synopsis to make sure it will be something I enjoy.

Trey and Hailey have an interesting story, they met but he walked away for several reasons and some of them were even admirable but the heart wants what it wants and you can only hold it off for so long.

There were some seriously interesting twists and I loved every single second.  I can’t wait for the next installment.

Trey La Rosa has no time for finding a woman, with his busy Hospital life and then additional family commitments he has no time to sleep but when he attends a charity function and spots her, he can not take his eyes of the beautiful women in front of him.

Hailey Carmichael is from a privileged background, family money and a image to uphold is exhausting when you aren’t really right for the world but when she discovers a secret within her own family she decides to take things into her own hands, but when she meets the dangerously good looking surgeon all bets are off.

While Trey is dragged into trying to help Hailey his feelings grow more and more but with his family and enemies losing another woman to the family feud is not on the cards, but can he stay away and protect Hailey or is it better to keep her close.

OMG OMG, this author can do no wrong, this series is one of the best series I have read and am always anticipate the new release with zealous and this book does not disappoint. I feel although Trey in the other books have flown some what under the radar you always got the feeling there was so much more to him. As the doctor of the family as well as the hospital you get to see the strain within his life and the heartbreak that has been hinted in the other stories.

I am so glad that he found a strong woman within Hailey and that although she has, he issues with her family too they seem to really spark when they come together and really dig under the skin of each other to find the drive and determination they both need to succeed in the world they live in. The story twists and weaves through to bring you a brilliant story which as always is well written and draws you in from the first work. The characters are as familiar as my own family, and it is great to see them bringing Hailey instantly into the fold of the Five Families and like all of them are extremely protective of her from the start.

I really can’t wait for the next story, but they are many left to delve into.
