Devil’s Backbone (Wild Beasts Series Book 5) by T. Birmingham – Review by Sara Oxton

Devil's Backbone (Wild Beasts #5)Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Devil’s Backbone by T. Birmingham a four-star read that is the better devil you know. This is the fifth novel in the Wild Beasts series, they can be read as stand-alone, but I have to be honest and admit that I have read them in order. This was a great paranormal fantasy romance and has all the bones for being a great, but it just lacked a little something. Tess as a character was well done, she made you care about her and feel her emotions but some of the others just felt a little lacking. But I would recommend this as there is a great story to be read.

LOVE on the LINE (Great Expectations Love Stories: The Graykens Book 2)LOVE on the LINE by Laurie Lewis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love on the Line by Laurie Lewis a five-star read that you would give a limb for. This is the second novel in the Graykens series, part of the Great expectations Love stories, I would recommend you read them in order. Matt and Mikayla have a story that will test you, it will wring your emotions out and leave you in a heap. But it will also blow you away as its such a beautiful story, I know its odd to say anything about cancer can be beautiful but the author some how manages to bring it together and makes it so. You need this series, if you are having a bad day, give it a read and you won’t be any longer. If you are looking for a good read, then pick it up, you wont be disappointed.

Lights, Camera, Action (Paranormal Talent Agency, #1)Lights, Camera, Action by Heather Silvio
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lights, Camera, Action by Heather Silvio a four-star read you won’t want to end. This is the first novel in the Paranormal Talent Agency series, and I am eagerly awaiting number two, this was a fun, drama filled paranormal romp. Set among the back drop of Las Vegas it will keep you hooked trying to figure out the culprit, with enough to keep you really guessing but not enough that you get lost. This is short and sweet and has a great storyline, if you like the genre then you wont go wrong with this one.

Linda Gets her Groove Thing (The Green Room Chronicles #2)Linda Gets her Groove Thing by J.D. Frettier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Linda Gets her Groove Thing by J.D. Frettier a four-star read that will get your groove on. This is the second novel in The Green Room Chronicles series, and they can be read as stand-alone, but they are funny together as well. Linda White is such a fab character, she really was so funny and entertaining. Its crazy that reading about death and life after death and it being so funny that you will laugh out loud but its brilliant. This is well written and poignant with a great story you will enjoy.

Lost in Love: Miss Apple Pants (#2)Lost in Love: Miss Apple Pants by Charlotte Roth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lost in Love by Charlotte Roth a four-star read you will adore. This is the second novel in the Miss Apple Pants series, I would say read them in order as even though its not necessary it does give the whole story as it picks up three years after the first and continues the story, so you get the most reading them in order. This was sweet and funny but at times a teeny bit annoying, and confusing. This is a light-hearted series and one that if you enjoy that type of thing you will enjoy. Anyone who has been a little bit of a clutz will identify with Ella.

Yearning Young (Burning Britely #2)Yearning Young by Deidre Huesmann
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yearning Young by Diedre Huesmann a five-star read that you will fall for. This is the second novel in the Burning Britely Series, and I would wholeheartedly recommend you read them both as the first gives us one perspective and some background and then this one shows us the rest. There are a lot of complex issues dealt with in this series and the author deals so well, no matter what you feel this story will make you care. This may be wrote for teens but any age will get something out of it.

Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine (The Green Room Chronicles #1)Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine by J.D. Frettier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Desperately seeking Sixty-Nine by J.D. Frettier a four-star read that will surprise you. This is the first novel in the Green Room chronicles, and I am hoping I can get to read number two soon. I honestly didn’t know what to think when I picked this one up, and I’m glad I did as it was so much fun, but I am still a little in wonder about what I read. I have often wondered about what happens after we pass and where we go, and this story gives me hope. I know its only fiction but its funny and will put a smile on your face if you are old enough to read as this does contain very adult story lines. What more can I say other than bring on number two.

Happily. Ever After?: An Italian Relationship (The Italian Saga Book 6) by Gaia B. Amman – Review by Sara Oxton

Happily. Ever After?: An Italian Relationship. (The Italian Saga Book 6)Happily. Ever After?: An Italian Relationship. by Gaia B Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Happily. Ever after? By Gaia B Amman a four-star read that may leave you happy? This is the sixth novel in the Italian saga series and I would advise you read them all, I have read them that way and enjoyed them so much more as they set the scene and paint the picture making you grow with the characters and see them as much more than a two dimensional character on a page. I have had a love hate thing with Leda through the series, in some parts I have adored her creativity and adventure and in others I have wanted to shake her. But there are so many other characters that you will adore. This novel is one that not everyone will enjoy as the author does push boundaries and gives is a great many views and creates a world that hopefully you will adore.

If The Shoe Fits... (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book #3)If The Shoe Fits… by Bea Stevens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If The Shoe Fits by Bea Stevens a four-star read that will fit like a glove. This is the third novel in the Liberty Lawrence series, it can be read as stand-alone, but I have loved the series as a whole. I adore Libby, because like me, she has a little problem with saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Libby at times is a little annoying but she also has a heart of gold and a passion for sleuthing and fashion that will make you chuckle.

COMING HOME (Flowers in December, #2)COMING HOME by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Coming Home by Jane Suen a four-star read that will welcome you home. This is the sequel to Flowers in December and will astound you, it’s a great story that even though has elements of Christmas it doesn’t need to be read at that time of year. This story starts four-months after the first and I would advise you to read the first part as you would be lost if you didn’t. This is such a powerful story and deals with matters that not all find easy to read. The way the author manages to deal with it so gracefully in such a short amount of pages will surprise you.

This is the third novel in the Sand Dollar series, and I would whole heartedly recommend that you read them in order as they do flow and tell the whole story. Alex tells us his story and takes us on his journey, its one that will bring tears as well as laughter and joy. The Devil's Shadow (Wild Beasts Series Book 4)The Devil’s Shadow by T. Birmingham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Devil’s Shadow by T. Birmingham a five-star read that won’t leave you in the shadows. This is the forth novel in the Wild Beasts series and it could be a stand-alone but honestly, I have read the series and loved it as it progresses along, so I would recommend the series but if you don’t have the time you could just try this one. Ginny and Kieran will captivate you. The depth of the characters in this series have been sublime, you need to invest a little time in this one so don’t think you can pick it up and put it down every five minutes but if you have the time to give in and get stuck in then you wont be disappointed, the world building is second to none and will make you feel like you are in another time and place.

The Slip Series CollectionThe Slip Series Collection by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Slip Series by Gwyn McNamee a five-star read that will blow you away.
Dick Slip a five-star read that will have you slipping out. I have loved everything by this author I’ve read, this did not disappoint. It’s totally different to the Hawke Family series but it’s still just as good, it’s funny and sweet and hot all wrapped up in one great package. What starts as a tiny little accident (That’s not so tiny) leaves Rafe on a journey that he thinks is going to lead to him losing his job, but maybe it leads to so much more!! You need this book in your life, the author writes words that will make you smile as well as blush.
NipSlip a hilarious and side splitting five-star read. One slip, one click will life ever be the same again, for Riley Boswell or you if you one click this amazing series. The writing is funny and sweet you will be up there on the cat walk with Riley when her malfunction happens, something beyond her control that may still ruin her life. Gwyn McNamee will make you feel part of the story, you will be there with Riley and admiring Tate Decker as he moves about his office. This author has a talent of creating people whom no matter what happens to them you will still adore them.
Beaver Blunder a five-star read that will have you slipping up with laughter. This time it’s the misfortune of Madeline Ryan who has one brief mistake that would haunt most people for life, but Madeline isn’t like most people, she is a strong independent woman, she has fought her way up in a man’s world and come out fighting. But sometimes you fight so hard you forget to stop. This may be a lesson to those of us who like to swing in the breeze, never walk on a wet marble floor in heels, get someone to carry you!! Gwen McNamee once again you have made me cry with laughter and blush like a crazy person as I was reading in public!! Who will slip up next? I can only imagine.

Trouble’s Wedding Caper by Jen Talty a five-star read that will make you chuckle. This is the eight novel in the Familiar legacy series but you don’t need to have read them all, I have only read number two and five and now eight and I have loved them all, I am sure one day I will get to read them in order but until them I will just enjoy them as I fancy them. You will chuckle reading this one, as well as be kept guessing, Trouble will just make you want to wish he was real as who wouldn’t want a cat that supreme. The story is told from many perspectives so that can get a little confusing but the author deals well and keeps it interesting and clear.

This is the second novel in the Order of the Sentry series, however it is a stand-alone, you don’t need to have read the first one Releasing the Demons, but it does give you good world building background. The world building in this series is sublime, Jonathan Kerr is one of those characters that will make you feel his pain, he will make you feel his confusion and heart, coming to terms with what he is now. The pain and hardship are palpable, you will feel it as if it was your own. If you like your reads dark then you will adore this read.

This is the second novel in the Sand Dollar series I have enjoyed the first book in the series Penny for your thoughts and then this one and I can’t wait for the third. This one is about second chances romance and sadness, love and drama, the author has great descriptive ways you will feel like you are there with them know what’s on each corner of the town, the author has built the story over the two books and the third will be better I’m sure as they build on each other. Alex is a compelling story teller and he will make you listen.

An Improper Encounter by Erica Taylor a five-star read that is most certainly proper. This is the third novel in the Macalisters series, they can be read as stand alone but I have read them as a series and enjoyed them more as such. If you like the historical romance genre then you will enjoy this series. Sarah is definitely my favourite character in this series, she has so much thrown at her but still is a lady throughout. There were parts that dragged a little, bit overall at the end I was happy I had read it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eight Steps by Taylor Sullivan a five-star read that will help you get your nerd on. This is the first novel in the Nerdy by Nature series and the next needs to be here. This should come with a warning, do not drink while reading as you are likely to spit it out, I laughed so hard I wore my drink. I got my copy after the re-edit and it was great, it showed us how bad editing can ruin a great book after reading some of the other earlier reviews. I knew I wanted to read this as I adored another book by this author, and I am glad I did as it was so much better. Elliot was great, he had a great charm about him and when you get to know him, he will clearly become a fave new book boyfriend.

Penny For Your Thoughts (Sand Dollar Series Book 1)Penny For Your Thoughts by J.D. Boudreaux
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Penny For your Thoughts by J.D. Boudreaux is a five-star read that will have you thinking. This is the first novel in the Sand Dollar series and I for one can’t wait on the next one. It was charmingly romantic but there was a real current throughout. Yes, love is amazing but it’s also hard. This story does have places that it could have been polished and it could have gone better, but it shows us the talent of the author coming through and the story was so good. Penny was a good character, you will find her story and be thrilled by it and when you add Alex to the mix it just makes it so much better. I can’t wait to see the next one as I hope the author has improved the bits that need it, I have a good feeling that the experience will only develop, and we will see some great writing from this author.

There are elements that you will adore but on the other hand there were bits I hated, at times I loved Lyla but at others I could have happily left her on the door step. The action is well done, and the chemistry just sublime if you can get over Lyla and just appreciate her place and what she has been through then you should enjoy this one.

This is the second novel in the 21st Century Courtesan series and I would recommend you read them in order as they do tell the whole story. There is lots going on in this one again like the first, but Pamela DuMond has a great way for keeping it clear and making it easy for you to keep up. The darkness in the story is well done and will keep you gripped, the suspense level is thrilling. This was a quick and fast paced story that will suck you in and enthral you, I only gave it four stars as there was a couple of bits that I couldn’t get, and I could have read more pages. Janet MacLaclan and Kade Mathews are a great couple and they just have this charisma about them you would help them like the others do. There is a dark story to this, but its done well and shows promise for a great series.

The Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery a five-star read that will light you from the inside. I have read a lot of stories by this author and this is by far one of my favourites, its just so deep and compelling that it will stay with you for such a long time. The one thing I love about this author is the way that she makes you think about the bigger picture as you read, makes you care for the characters in a way that just don’t normally. Even though I may not be a parent I have felt the loss of a child and this story was done so well that It made me sob my heart out in one breath and then smile in the next. The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor a four-star read that you will dance away with. This is the second novel in the Macalisters series and in my opinion, you can read them in any order, they do build on each other but don’t necessarily need an order. There is lots going on and lots that could drag you down as you read, but the author somehow manages to keep you from getting bogged down in the terrible things that have happened to the characters in the past and just loving the drama and passion of the current along with some amazingly described scenes.

A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is a four-star read that will pack a punch. This is the first novel in the Macalisters series, and it shows us what a promising series this is going to be. It’s a historical romance that will surprise you, I am not a huge fan of the genre but after seeing some friends rave about this one and how it was more than just your typical historical romance, I gave it a go and enjoyed it. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered Love by Nivia Borell is a four-star read that will shatter you. This is the first book in the Forever Us series and I can’t wait for the next one, I don’t want to give the story away as it’s a good premise. This in places is a great story, the way it’s done is a little overbearing at times but then on the other hand well done, it’s a real conundrum to rate and review. Bria is someone your heart will break for at times but then in the same breath you will want to strangle her at the same time, I don’t know if it was me or my current mood but it was all like that, almost like there are two people writing this story. It could be the fact that the story is told from several perspectives and jumps time lines that meant I found it to be wishy washy in places but amazing in others. Give this one a go and see what you think is possibly the best thing I can advise.

This one will likely confuse you at times when you first start reading but keep reading as it does unfold and you will understand the whole pot of crazy that goes on, the twists do become clear and this dark wonder becomes clear. The author has a great talent at giving just enough information to keep you hooked but not too much that it gets nuts. There are far to many characters to mention as I don’t want to leave any of these amazing characters out, my only issue was I felt it did go on a little and it was crazy at the beginning but it did pull it together overall.
